Jerry Lawler wrestled Jeff Jarrett in a five minute match at Friday’s Memphis Grizzlies NBA Game. The two did some trash talking about each other’s cities before the match. Jarrett ended up getting the victory over the WWE Hall of Famer after he hit Lawler over the back with a guitar.

Tyrus recently spoke with Arm Drag Takedown about his time with Impact Wrestling and his departure from the company. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Impact not wanting Tyrus to work for Jeff Jarrett when GFW was still a separate company: “They didn’t want me working for Jeff. Basically, it came down to either stay with Impact or I could go with Global. I was making more with Impact, and Global didn’t have the resources to pay me what I was making.”

Jarrett attempting to get Tyrus to come to GFW: “He was basically saying it was better for me to come to Global, because Impact was about to fold. He was very adamant about that. Two weeks later, at the TV tapings, guess whose ass is there working the shows? Jeff Jarrett. I was like, ‘B—-, [are] you crazy?’ Who does that? Check it: If I would have quit and taken money out of my family’s mouths, went and worked there and then, ‘Oh, we’re going to have to go work Impact…’ How would that have gone?”

Leaving Impact once Jarrett started working there again: “When Jeff Jarrett came along — because him and I have an uncomfortable history — I just wasn’t comfortable with the management. … Unless [Jarrett] and I were going to have a sit down – which just wasn’t going to happen – I knew this was not going to be a spot for me. I just wasn’t comfortable with it.”

Jeff Jarrett appeared for an RCW event Friday night drunk and ended up passing out from drinking in the locker room but still insisted on wrestling at the event.

Promoter Steve Ewaschuki apologized to the fans at the event and announced that Jarrett would not be appearing for their show the follow day because of his actions on Friday. You can check out footage from Friday’s event embedded below:

...

According to PWInsider, there was a lot of interest in bringing in former WWE Superstar Jack Swagger into the company when Jeff Jarrett and Dutch Mantel were heading the creative for Impact Wrestling. Mantell even mentioned during a conference call for Global Force Wrestling back in July that Swagger may pop up in GFW.

Swagger mentioned to WrestleZone earlier this year that he would have enjoyed working with Dutch Mantell again.

“It would be awesome to work with Dirty Dutch Mantell again, good friend of mine. So we’ll just have to see. I’m in the process of lining up a calendar, and getting a lot of shows, I think I’m booked for the summer with shows. So I’m gonna be anywhere, you can see me in Australia, on Tommy Dreamer’s House of Hardcore tour.”

It’s almost safe to say that those plans are no longer on the table, as Jarrett and Mantel are no longer head of creative for the company. If he was to appear on Impact television, it wouldn’t be until Bound for Glory or after, as the company has already taped all the television up until that date.

If we hear anything new regarding his status, we will keep you posted.

We noted last week that Impact Wrestling is phasing out the ‘GFW’ name, as the company never completed the deal with Jeff Jarrett to own the rights to owning it. The belief is that Jarrett will be back with the company, but privately and no one is certain of anything.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reports that the long-term goal is to make Impact a Canadian company because Anthem is based in Toronto and they believe they can have some economic advantages there. There had been some sentiment against another re-branding and continuing to use the ‘GFW’ name but it appears that is no longer an issue moving forward.

The feeling is that the company wants to get away from the negativity associated with the “TNA” name and as long as they are based in Orlando, that will never change.

Jim Cornette is already done with Impact Wrestling, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.

It’s being said that there is no heat between Anthem and Cornette. Cornette agreed to work one set of television tapings but Jeff Jarrett had asked him to work another set and the upcoming Bound for Glory event. Cornette is unable to travel to Canada and won’t be used at the upcoming Bound for Glory show.

The creative team is now being ran by Scott D’Amore and Sonjay Dutt now that Jarrett is no longer around. They are planning on focusing more on the in-ring action and less on authority figure angles, which is what Cornette was brought in for.

Cornette has agreed to go to Nashville and tape whatever storyline they needed for his exit. Nothing right now is set in that regard.

Jarrett said he is picking brains of NFL and NHL coaches/personal regarding Alberto situation. It’s a case by case basis when dealing athletes.
When a caller asked if they were going to edit Patron off episodes of Impact, they snubbed the caller and moved on to the next question.
When asked about if the GFW title is currently vacant, Jarrett wouldn’t comment much on it as there is currently an investigation going on. He stated the title is the least of importance in regards to this situation.
Jarrett says he has been in contact with Alberto and his representatives. Jarrett says its a ‘priority’ to keep top guys with the company.”
