WWE has plans to bring back the King of the Ring but not as a tournament.

PWInsider reports that WWE is interested in having a UK series titled “King of the Ring” air on the WWE Network and also be available on a station overseas. The idea is to have a WWE property that is UK-centric, produced within Great Britain and features an all-British cast. One of the broadcasters WWE is pitching is ITV.

In recent months, talks of WWE launching the UK brand as a series have quieted down, especially after WWE signed deals with PROGRESS Wrestling and ICW to bring those promotions to the planned WWE Network tiered-system. Those plans and talks are obviously still continuing.

It still remains to be seen when and where the new “King of The Ring” series will launch. We will keep you updated when we receive more information.

In a move that seems to further solidify ICW’s relationship with WWE, the promotion announced earlier today that NXT star Kassius Ohno will be challenging ICW World Heavyweight Champion Joe Coffey for the title at the Infamous ICW show on September 17th in Newcastle, England.

ICW issued the following press release on the match:

NXT’s Kassius Ohno to challenge Joe Coffey for ICW World Heavyweight Championship in The UK

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND – ICW owner and founder Mark Dallas today announced that Kassius Ohno will be in action at the upcoming “Infamous ICW” show in Newcastle, England, on September 17th.

“The Knockout Artist” will go one on one with ICW World Heavyweight Champion Joe Coffey, with the title at stake.

This event will also feature Legion vs. The Filthy Generation, Moustache Mountain – Tyler Bate & Trent Seven – vs. The Marauders, and Lionheart vs. Johnny Moss.

Coffey and Ohno have met twice before, and have one win a piece. The eyes of the world – and those of the rabid Newcastle ICW fanbase – will be on this rubber match.

Ohno is the second WWE star to work with ICW in recent months. Noam Dar returned to his old stomping grounds for a one-night-only appearance back in June for the promotions’s Shug’s Hoose Party show.

Noam Dar Headed Back To ICW

Insane Championship Wrestling recently revealed that WWE’s 205 Live star, Noam Dar is set to make a high profile return to the promotion for one night only. The ‘Scottish Supernova’ will appear at the Shug’s Hoose Party event on Sunday 29th June at Glasgow’s O2 ABC.

Dar’s return to the company in a one-off capacity marks the second time a current WWE-contracted performer has taken part in an ICW event after Finn Bálor’s memorable appearance at the SSE Hydro last year. Dar will join forces with Sha Samuels to take on Grado and ICW World Heavyweight Champion, Joe Coffey. Tickets for the event can be purchased here at Ticketmaster.

Bella Twins On Whose Line Is It Anyway?

In other news, it was announced by the CW Network earlier today that Nikki and Brie Bella are set to make a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of the improvisational comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? Promotional material for the show, which will air on Monday, June 5th, reads:

TAG TEAMING FOR LAUGHS – WITH GUEST STAR APPEARANCE BY WWE DIVA CHAMPIONS THE BELLA TWINS

Hosted by comedian Aisha Tyler, cast members Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie, along with guest comedian Jeff Davis, put their comedic skills to the test through a series of spontaneous improv games that are prompted only by random ideas supplied by the studio audience.
