Charlotte defeated Natalya on tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live to capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship Title. Charlotte will now replace Natalya in her scheduled match against Alexa Bliss at Sunday’s WWE Survivor Series event. Here is the updated card:

It was reported over the weekend via Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline that WWE has been planning for Universal Champion Brock Lesnar to face WWE Champion Jinder Mahal in a non-title match at the upcoming Survivor Series event.

Meltzer discussed the match on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and said that WWE has been planning this idea for a long time. Meltzer added that there may be more RAW vs. SmackDown matches at the show but didn’t elaborate which matches those could be.

WWE is planning for Universal Champion Brock Lesnar to face WWE Champion Jinder Mahal in the main event match for next month’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event, according to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.

Neither title is expected to be on the line in the match. Dave Meltzer speculated earlier this week that Finn Balor would be challenging Brock for the WWE Universal Title at Survivor Series, but those plans appear to be off.

Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 19th, 2017 in Houston, Texas. As always, we will be providing live play-by-play coverage of the event.

While appearing on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, Jim Ross talked about the announcement of “War Games” returning at the NXT Takeover: Houston event and mentioned that he would like to be apart of the show.

“It is a neat hook to build around for the NXT Takeover. It is a very marketable tool and that is how I look at it. It’s got name identity with some older wrestling fans and the name has been bandied about some to the younger fans and trickled down. War Games has got a little bit of a legacy, if it and I don’t know exactly the structure of it but I can just tell you that if it is executed correctly it could really be special. I thought over the years and maybe it is just my own bias but I thought in the early going of the War Games we had better matches than they subsequently got and the end of the War Games. But I may be bias and wrong but that is my take on it.”

“The talent has got to fit the environment but the concept is really unique and it is very nostalgic in a good way (I think) and it is kind of like WWE having a Starrcade event in Greensboro, that is kind of cool and even though I don’t think it is going to be televised it has got people talking about a live event so I kind of think that has served its purpose and it is very nostalgic and the fans in that area should get some enjoyment out of it.”

“It’s nostalgic, has got some name identity and it is nice to see it back but it is not something I’d want to see every year and the other thing is that the previous War Games some of them have been very violent and that doesn’t seem to be en vogue these days. That is not a b—h from my end, I’m just saying if everybody thinks it is going to be a War Games like it used to be in the old days it is probably not but that doesn’t mean it can’t be better and certainly different so I am open minded. I am glad that the basic canvas is there called the War Games now let us see where they take it and I am curious.”

When asked about possibly calling the action for the show, Ross mentioned that he would make himself available if the company needed him.

“I am certainly sure that even with my busy book signing schedule, if I was needed in Houston for NXT Takeover I’d certainly make myself available (laughing).”

Taz opens today’s show by speaking about the return of War Games.

Triple H and NXT announced yesterday that NXT Takeover:War Games will take place on Survivor Series weekend in Houston. He says he was always a fan of War Games so it’s pretty cool to see it returning next month.

He admits that the timing of this announcement is a little bit odd. Only a few weeks ago WWE announced that they will be promoting a live event in November under the ‘Starrcade’ banner and in Taz’s opinion that news hasn’t really sunk in yet. Now NXT is promoting the return of another iconic brand, and he thinks it might be a case of ‘too much too soon’

Taz points out that WWE needs to be careful here with how they revive these older brands, and they must be careful as to not be labeled uncreative. If they continue to cycle back through old WCW brands like this, people might start accusing WWE of being unable to come up with interesting new ideas of their own, or of simply being too lazy to do so.

It was revealed at tonight’s NXT tapings that there will be a War Games match featuring Undisputed (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly), SAnitY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain), and Roderick Strong & The Authors of Pain at the upcoming NXT Takeover: Houston event.

According to our correspondent at tonight’s show, the idea is to set up two rings inside of a cage just like the traditional War Games matches from WCW.

Triple H also indicated on Twitter that the name of the actual show will be WWE NXT Takeover: War Games.

Taz opens today’s show by commenting on the horrific attack that occurred in New York 16 years ago today. He sends his thoughts and prayers to all the families affected during that tragedy, and all the first responders who are suffering today due to their heroic efforts that day.

Taz was still wrestling with WWE at the time and was stuck in Houston when the attacks occurred. His wife and young child were still in New York, and it was a very scary situation knowing he couldn’t get home to be with them. At first he couldn’t get in contact with his wife but finally he was able to reach her, and he took comfort in knowing his wife and son were okay.

He continues by saying that Vince McMahon wanted to use his private plane to fly some wrestlers from the New York area home so they could be with their families, but his jet wasn’t allowed to take off. Eventually planes started flying again and Taz knew he’d have to get to the airport very early to make it through the lines, but even though he was 4 or 5 hours early, the lines were still out through the airport doors.

While waiting in line Taz received a call from a WWE employee who told him that there was a seat available on a larger plane that Vince McMahon chartered, in order to ensure more people could get out of Houston and get closer to home in the Northeast. Taz was very thankful for that, and it’s something he’ll never forget.

Lawler sends his best wishes to the residents of Houston, and all those affected by the terrible storm that has resulted in severe flooding.

He says he had a great time returning to the announce booth for Monday Night RAW last week, and it was quite an entertaining show to be a part of. Lawler laughs when he recalls introducing Pelvis Wesley from Southpaw Regional Wrestling, because it was pretty evident to him that very few people in Memphis knew who that was.

Lawler informs that through the entire 3-hour broadcast, he never heard from Vince McMahon in his headset once. He says that’s usually a sign that you’re doing a good job because if you say something stupid, he’ll be in your ear rather quickly.

There is speculation that Shelton Benjamin’s match with Chad Gable on tonight’s SmackDown Live may be pushed back to a later date or canceled altogether. With Benjamin living in the Houston area, he was not on the road with WWE when Hurricane Harvey hit the area.

Shelton posted the following on Twitter mentioning that the next few days will be a challenge:

It is worth noting that WWE is still mentioning him involvement on tonight’s show on their WWE.com preview for tonight’s show.

“With Jason Jordan’s departure to Monday Night Raw, Chad Gable had been left wondering what was next for his burgeoning career. SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan had an answer for him, revealing that as part of the deal for Jordan, Raw GM Kurt Angle helped Bryan sign Shelton Benjamin to Team Blue. Furthermore, the former Intercontinental, United States and WWE Tag Team Champion was interested in teaming up with the Olympian.

Bryan arranged for the two to have their first match as a tag team tonight on SmackDown LIVE. How will the new pairing of Gable & Benjamin start off their tandem journey?”
