WWE has been keeping NXT Superstar Lio Rush out of action ever since he joked about Emma’s departure from the company on Twitter. WWE has not had Lio perform since the same weekend he sent out the tweet.

For those who missed it, Rush wrote: “I guess these are the things that happen when you’re not TRULY ready for @WWEAsuka”

This tweet didn’t go over very well with many of the talents within the company. Dave Meltzer noted in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there was talk at one point of firing him over the incident. It’s being said that he’s going to have to put in serious work to get the heat off him moving forward.

As previously noted, Lio received a lot of backlash among his peers within NXT and also from several veterans in the business. While he did apologize for his comments, several within the industry weren’t buying it.

PWInsider reported earlier this week that NXT management had a talk with Lio Rush regarding his controversial joke he made regarding Emma getting fired from WWE.  Dave Meltzer also mentioned in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that here was almost immediate talk of Rush being fired from the company. Meltzer also added that he’s going to have to put in extra work to get the heat off him.

“The guy is going to have to work to get heat off of him,” Meltzer wrote. “Had he not apologized quickly, I don’t think he’d still be with the company based on what we were hearing between the post and the apology.”
