After getting relegated to the pre-show at Summerslam, the Miz looks to defend his Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy. Thing is, we don’t know yet who his opponent is. That’s slightly absurd. If he doesn’t defend the title for two straight PPVs, then something is clearly wrong. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

But who can he face, though? Here are some guesses.

Matt & Jeff Hardy

If WWE wants to go the easy route, then they can have a rematch between Miz and Jeff Hardy. After all, the A-Lister did cheat to retain against Hardy. In case they haven’t forgotten, this is an easy one to arrange.

For an even spicier arrangement, they can throw Matt into the mix. A Triple Threat revents disqualifications from the Miztourage, but it also allows them to straight up interfere. It also raises more interesting questions.

Do the brothers team up against the Intercontinental Champion? Will they duke it out and let the better man win? Can you freebird a singles title?

Miz has survived multi-man matches before, so it’s not out of the question for him to weasel his way into one should he be faced with both Hardys. Remember how he stole the win at Extreme Rules two years ago? Expect a finish like that should this be the case.

We’ve got things on our plate that are more important than sorting out the “Broken Brilliance.” I made a genuine effort to resolve something to benefit the Hardys as a goodwill gesture to Matt. It didn’t reach a conclusion and we’re moving on. We’re not going back to it, I’m not interested in opening a new dialogue, I’m not interested in opening another conversation about it. We made our best effort, it didn’t happen, and I’m not going to negotiate all over again.”

According to PWInsider, all signs are pointing that The Hardy Boyz are preparing for a lawsuit against Anthem Sports over the ownership of the gimmick. We will keep you posted if we receive any more details.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, Anthem’s Ed Nordholm touched based on the on-going issues between Anthem Sports and the rights to the “BROKEN” gimmick. When asked if The Hardy Boyz initial investment of $3000 into the gimmick would change the dynamic of the ownership, Nordholm explained why he doesn’t think it does.

“No. The company spent millions of dollars producing television last year, including all of the shows that incorporate the various aspects of the “Broken Brilliance.” I don’t know whether Jeff and Matt had some out-of-pocket expenses that they might have had on the volcano and the like, but that would not change, in any way, shape, or form, what their contracts say about who owns the IP. If they had some out-of-pocket expenses, they certainly never brought them to my attention. To suggest that they somehow funded the show is absurd.”

When asked about the possibly selling the intellectual property, Nordholm revealed that the door has been shut on The Hardy Boyz and they never plan on negotiating with them again.

Matt also wrote the following Tuesday night regarding the situation:

“I tell the truth & I don’t need to desperately overcompensate to prove my public credibility. My facts will be shared via the correct venue.”

Things don’t appear to be simmering down at all between The Hardys battle with Impact over the ownership of the BROKEN gimmick. We noted earlier today that the U.S. Patent & Trademark office rejected Matt’s application to trademark the name. It’s not looking good for The Hardys.
