Russo begins today’s show by speaking about Vince McMahon’s newly re-launched XFL. He says there’s no doubt in his mind that Donal Trump is a part of this. He points out that the McMahon family are very close with Trump, and Trump has had a long-standing rivalry with Roger Goodell and the NFL. In addition, Trump likely won’t be President when the league kicks off in 2020.

Gilbertti doesn’t disagree with that point, but he also mentions that it’s going to be tough for McMahon to find quality football players. All the great players are going to go to the NFL for bigger money, and the XFL will always be left with the scraps. He’s just not sure how this is going to work, because everything that’s ever competed with the NFL in the past has failed.

Russo mentions that there were a lot of upset fans who attended RAW25 at The Manhattan Center this past Monday. Apparently there were only 25 minutes of live action at The Manhattan Center, and this made a lot of fans feel like they didn’t get their money’s worth, especially since a lot of them paid upwards of $800 to attend that event.

Gilberti points out that it’s stupid to pay $800 to watch professional wrestling in any era, and those fans shouldn’t be upset that the show sucked, because the shows have sucked for the last several years.

Russo opens today’s show speaking about the rumours that The Undertaker will be returning to the ring at WrestleMania 34 to face John Cena. Russo hopes these rumours are untrue, and he hopes that The Undertaker remains retired, especially after the huge retirement display that we saw at the end of WrestleMania 33.

He adds that Undertaker needs to think about his legacy in the business at this point, because his worst mistake would be returning for more matches when he’s clearly not the same competitor that fans remember from the prime of his career. Russo goes out on a limb and predicts that Undertaker will not be returning to face John Cena at WrestleMania this year.

Gilbertti doesn’t have any issue with Undertaker returning for one more match at all. He thinks Undertaker carried himself pretty well during his last couple of matches, and he still has the best entrance in the business. As long as Undertaker can sell tickets for WWE and cash a big WrestleMania paycheque, Gilbertti has no issue with him returning to the ring.

Russo opens today’s show by asking Gilbertti for his opinion on the Chris Jericho/Kenny Omega match from Wrestle Kingdom 12. Gilbertti thought it was a really good match, and he points out that all Jericho fans need to see this match. Overall, he thought both men told a good story, and he gives the match a thumbs up.

Gilbertti points out that WWE has really hurt Braun Strowman’s character as of late. First they dressed him up as an elf for a social media video, and then he appeared in a backstage vignette with Alexa Bliss, announcing their partnership for the Mixed Match Challenge.

Russo was dissapointed by this as well, and he says that he just wishes WWE would protect some of their stars. He has no good explanation for why A.J. Styles, the WWE Champion, was booked to lose clean two weeks in a row on Smackdown Live, especially being pinned most recently by Sami Zayn.

Gilbertti mentions that it’s pointless to talk about WWE’s booking because they’re not good at building stars anymore – they’re good at burying people. Gilbertti thinks that a 12 year-old can watch this show for a couple of months and then write a show that’s just as effective or more effective at making stars.

Speaking about Neville’s release from WWE, Gilbertti says that he doesn’t doubt that these guys can make more money on the indies than they’re making in WWE right now. He points out that some promoters are marks and are willing to overpay just to get these guys on their shows. He has also heard that WWE house shows are drawing so poorly lately that the main event talents are only making $500 per show. Gilbertti says he makes more than that when he does indie appearances.

Big Vito understands the financial side of things, but he also says that there are only so many top spots in WWE and Neville just spent several months in one of those spots. He thinks it’s unfortunate that Neville asked for his release after being asked to do a job for Enzo Amore, after he spent several months on top as Champion because eventually everyone has to do a job for someone.

He suggests that these talents shouldn’t forget what it took to get to the big leagues in the first place, because the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Triple H’s personal trainer spoke out this week about the use of HGH in WWE. Gilbertti feels that if you’re tested and have low levels of testosterone, you should be able to go and get a prescription for HGH. It seems hypocritical to criticize WWE performers for utilizing HGH when actors can utilize it while they prepare for film roles without any criticism.

Lane mentions that GFW put out a statement last week, informing that Jeff Jarrett will be taking an indefinite leave of absence to take care of some personal issues. The dirt sheets have been reporting that this situation has been building for months, and Jarrett’s ‘erratic’ behaviour has been a distraction over the last few months.

In addition, there’s footage online of Jarrett walking to the ring at a recent Triple A show where Jarrett appears to be overweight, and it took him a strange amount of time to make his way to the ring.

Gilbertti says he likes Jarrett, and he considers this story to be disturbing. Russo likes Jarrett as well, but he points out that karma will eventually catch up with everyone. Russo adds that he always defended Jarrett because he was such a good worker in the ring, and he was also very dependable in terms of staying healthy.

Lane mentions that rumours have circulated that Enzo Amore is deathly afraid of heights, and WWE made a joke of him by having him suspended above the ring in a shark cage during a SummerSlam match featuring Big Show and Big Cass. Russo says that if Amore is actually afraid of heights this was more of a rib than WWE trying to make a point.

Gilbertti says that if he was backstage he would have suggested that WWE officials not go ahead with that angle because if Amore ever gets angry and leaves the company, he could very well sue them for putting him in that position.

Gilbertti points out that he feels bad for Corbin after his failed cash-in attempt last Tuesday, but he admits that those final few minutes of Smackdown Live made for great television. He adds that WWE appears to be booking to bury people as of late because they’ve buried multiple talents like Bayley, Amore, and Corbin, while failing to get anyone over to a high degree.

Russo comments on the dynamic at the top of WWE between Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Russo says a fan wrote him a letter this past week suggesting that Triple H is ‘working’ his father-in-law, Vince McMahon, in an attempt to ascend to the top of the mountain that is WWE.

Russo truly believes that Triple H is working Vince McMahon, and although he had a lot of pleasurable experiences with Triple H in the past, he also remembers times when he wasn’t as easy to deal with. He recalls one time when Triple H refused to do the job for D-Lo Brown, who had put Triple H over for months upon months. This really aggravated Russo because the creative team wanted to keep D-Lo Brown strong and the one time they asked Triple H to return the favour, he refused to do so.

The fan who wrote Russo suggested that Triple H has convinced McMahon that social media is WWE’s most important statistic at this point, ahead of television ratings and things of the sort. Since social media is compiled mostly of hardcore fans, WWE’s product has skewed towards a niche fanbase in an attempt to get positive reinforcement from their social media target base.
