Bischoff is joined on today’s show by his co-host Nick Hausman.

Bischoff was sad to hear of Bobby Heenan’s passing this past weekend. He says that while he and Heenan weren’t overly close, he loved his time working with him. He also says that anytime one of your peers passes away, it’s a sobering experience.

He says that when Heenan came into WCW from WWE, that was a big adjustment for him. Heenan was accustomed to working for a well oiled machine in WWE, and even though WCW was growing and improving, they were far from perfect. Bischoff thinks Heenan looked at working for WCW as a bit of a step down at that point in his career, and Gene Okerlund felt the same way.

Nonetheless, Bischoff thinks Heenan really enjoyed his time working in WCW when the product was good, but he certainly became frustrated when the product was bad and Bischoff doesn’t blame him for that at all. He says that he’s very grateful to have spent some time with Heenan a couple of years ago at a convention, and even though Heenan’s body was failing, he still loved getting out and meeting his fans.

WWE issued the following statement regarding the passing of Bobby Heenan:

WWE Hall of Famer Bobby “The Brain” Heenan passes away

WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Bobby Heenan, regarded by many as the greatest manager in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 73.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Heenan was the “The Brain” behind some of the most prolific Superstars in sports-entertainment history. Heenan plied his trade as their mischievous manager by running his mouth on their behalf with a sarcastic wit considered among the best in the business.

Heenan named competitors under his guidance as the Heenan Family, a moniker meant to show the strength of their alliance over any opposition. Members of the Heenan Family in the AWA and WWE read like the who’s who of sports-entertainment, including Legends and WWE Hall of Famers such as Nick Bockwinkel, the Blackjacks, Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, the Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard), Harley Race, and of course, the first WWE Hall of Famer, Andre the Giant, whom Heenan led to the ring at WrestleMania III before 93,173 fans.

As impossible as it may seem, Heenan’s overwhelming success as a manager was matched by that of his announcing career. Heenan’s constant verbal jousts with fellow WWE Hall of Famers Gorilla Monsoon and “Mean” Gene Okerlund on USA Network remain among the most memorable moments in sports-entertainment history. In fact, “The Brain” was so entertaining that “The Bobby Heenan Show” had a brief run on USA Network as well.

In addition, “The Brain” was part of the original broadcast team for Monday Night Raw in 1993, and also sat at the announce table for both Raw and WCW Monday Nitro.

WWE extends its condolences to Heenan’s family, friends and fans.

While appearing on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, Stevie Ray was asked about his immediate reaction to the botch “N” word promo by Booker T on Hulk Hogan. Stevie revealed that he didn’t realize that he had said it at first because he was too focused on his own lines.

“I really don’t care about that question because that’s got nothing to do with me. That is more of my brother’s thing. That is more of a question he might have gotten tired of. When people ask me about and ask what was I thinking? I wasn’t really thinking about it because I am getting ready to do my lines. It doesn’t really bother me that much and it’s funny (man) but people ask me what was I thinking? I wasn’t even listening. I am waiting to do my lines so in essence I’m not sitting there and listening to him like a fan at home is listening to him, I am listening to him subconsciously because I am waiting to do my lines for when Mean Gene comes to me. I am not sitting there listening to him word for word and I didn’t even realize that he had did it for a minute because with the clip on YouTube it cuts off before Mean Gene gets to me but if you watch the show I had a little soliloquy of what I was saying but Iknow we had to say something about Hulk Hogan and it is right before we had to go out and work so that is probably why it got so messed up because I think my brother was thinking about two different things entirely. But that is more of my brothers shtick, not mine.”

Stevie also commented on the clip circulating all over social media and revealed that he forgot about the promo until it came up on YouTube.

“In all actuality, I had actually forgotten about that until it came out on YouTube several years later. People started telling me about it but it was just a night. I swear to God, I was just doing a story last night on my podcast and somebody sent in a question that made me remember a story that I didn’t remember until I read it. It triggered something in my head. That is just me. I’ve told people a thousand times that I have never taken pro wrestling home with me and it is just the job that I go to and when I am there I am all in and when I am not I am all out.”

You can listen to Stevie’s remarks embedded in the video below:
