It appears that WWE is making a major change to the upcoming Takeover main event. While it was revealed that Johnny Gargano would be the next challenger to Almas’ NXT Championship title at this past week’s NXT tapings, that may no longer be the plan.

WWE taped four matches this week — Trent Seven vs. Killian Dain, Kassius Ohno vs. Johnny Gargano, Roderick Strong vs. Lars Sullivan and Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black. The winners of these matches moved on to compete in a Fatal 4 Way with the winner being the new #1 contender for the NXT Title. Gargano ended up winning the 4 Way and should be moving on to challenge Almas… or so we thought.

When William Regal made the announcement in the video above, there was no mention of the Kassius Ohno vs. Johnny Gargano match. Instead Regal announced Velveteen Dream vs. Ohno instead. This means that WWE will have to tape the Velveteen Dream vs. Ohno match and the Fatal 4 Way match to determine a new #1 contender.

As of this writing, there is no indication as to why the company made this change. We will keep you updated if we receive any other details.

The Fatal 4-Way match on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live to determine the #1 contender for the Smackdown women’s title was originally scheduled to be a triple threat match that did not include Tamina.

PWinsider reports that plans changed late in the afternoon and Tamina was added to the match. It’s being said that the outcome was always supposed to be Charlotte winning so her inclusion had little impact.

It was announced at Thursday’s WWE NXT Tapings at Full Sail University that the company will hold a Fatal 4-Way at the upcoming NXT Takeover: Houston event. The winner of the match will leave the event as NXT Women’s Champion. Kairi Sane, who was the winner of the Mae Young Classic, was revealed as the first participant in the match. The two other participants were revealed in our spoiler report.

During the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed the NXT Women’s Championship and the Fatal 4-Way match that will take place at Takeover: Houston and indicated that Kairi Sane probably won’t leave the event champion. The belief is that if the company wanted to put the NXT Women’s Championship on Kairi, they would have rewarded her the title at the Mae Young Classic instead of holding another match to determine a new champion.

The Barclays Center Twitter account has apparently spoiled the Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Universal Championship match that saw Brock Lesnar defending the title against Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns.

You might recall that the stipulation added to the bout was if Lesnar loses the match, he would leave WWE. Well the Twitter account of the Barclays Center advertised Lesnar for Monday’s episode of RAW, which would be an indication that Brock is in fact leaving the SummerSlam event as WWE Universal Champion.

https://twitter.com/barclayscenter/status/897835948368687104

UPDATE: After several fans complained about the match being spoiled, the tweet was deleted.

With Brock Lesnar being advertised for the upcoming WWE No Mercy pay-per-view on September 24th, it is very unlikely that WWE would pull him from the show to advance a storyline where he leaves the company.

It was recently indicated on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE added the “Lesnar leaves WWE” stipulation to intrigue the Fatal 4-Way match on card and to capitalize off the Jon Jones vs. Lesnar speculation. Unless there is a change of plans, Lesnar is expected to retain the Universal Title and continue to defend it.

As previously reported, if Lesnar does decide to fight Jones, it won’t happen until after next year’s WrestleMania event.

We will keep you updated if there is a change in plans.

Bet Wrestling released the following details regarding the odds for the upcoming SummerSlam Fatal 4-Way match between Brock Lesnar, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman:

In addition to the WWE Championship match between Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura at Summerslam, the Fatal Fourway for the WWE Universal Championship now has odds as well. Champion Brock Lesnar is the initial favorite to win at -120, meaning a $120 bet upon success would win $100. This is considered an “even bet” with the added 20% stake being the “vig”.

Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe both have identical odds at +245 of dethroning Lesnar and due to the fourway stipulation, there isn’t a chance of a DQ or count out finish, so the winner walks out of Summerslam as Champion. This is single elimination, so Brock wouldn’t even have to be pinned or submitted to lose the title.

Braun Strowman is has the least favorable odds at +700, meaning a successful $100 bet would multiply seven fold to $700. One can only speculate that these underdog odds for the “Monster Among Men” are due to WWE being cautious in building up what could be the first true megastar since John Cena.

These odds will change and can not be considered spoilers at this point. It’s far too early for that.

WWE Universal Championship – Fatal Fourway – Summerslam
Brock Lesnar(c) -120 vs
Roman Reigns +245 vs
Samoa Joe +245 vs
Braun Strowman +700

WWE is trying to keep the finish for the Fatal 4-Way Universal Title match at SummerSlam under wraps, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

It’s being said that nobody on the writing team, producers, and participants (except Lesnar) will be given the finish of the match until the last minute. The idea is that the match will come off more “real” if the finish doesn’t leak. It’ll be interesting the last day or two when it comes to the betting odds for this match.
