Well, it was fun while it lasted. Current NFL free agent running back (most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers) DeAngelo Williams is calling it quits after just one match. The Carolina Panthers all-time leading rusher made an impressive debut at GFW’s Slammiversary XV this past Sunday, yet has decided to hang up his boots after the match (he teamed with Moose against Eli Drake and Chris Adonis).

Dave Meltzer was impressed with the wrestling rookie’s first outing noting, “This guy, in his first match…is probably better than almost anyone…with two years training in WWE. And a lot of guys with two years training in New Japan!…It was freaky how good he was.”

Despite the glowing reviews, DeAngleo Williams told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on his recent podcast that the appearance was a one-off and a tribute to his late uncle. He is now turning his attention to the upcoming football season, stating, “I’m definitely playing football [this year]. I guess you could say I’m waiting on the phone call.”

Although his debut was successful, it wasn’t perfect, as his frogsplash attempt on Adonis didn’t quite hit the mark. At least DeAngelo seems to have a good sense of humor about it.
