On today’s episode of The Taz Show, Taz will discuss the classic matchup between Abdullah The Butcher and Bruiser Brody which aired from Japan on April 10th, 1981 as part of the Champions Carnival tournament.

Taz points out that that Abdullah and Brody didn’t need the NWA or WWE “machine” to get over. They got over huge all over the world by constantly travelling to different territories and bringing their aggressive style with them wherever they went. Whether it be Japan, Puerto Rico, or the United States, these two men had an amazing rivalry throughout the years, and we rarely see this type of rivalry today.

He mentions that Abdullah and Brody were very different looking individuals, but neither of them look like regular people who work in an office building. They were both very unique looking people and if you saw either of them in an airport, you’d know they were stars of some kind.

Braun Strowman is one of the only competitors in WWE today that resembles this type of old-school character. He’s similar to Brody and Abdullah in the sense that if you see him walking towards you in public you’d probably turn and walk the other way. He has a tremendous mystique about him, and there’s no doubt that this is a person you wouldn’t want to mess with.

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane.

Russo opens today’s show speaking about the missed dropkick spot at the recent Ring of Honor show which featured The Young Bucks. Russo was vocal about his disapproval of this spot but he wasn’t trying to talk crap or looking to start fights, he just feels that we need to start calling these type of things something other than ‘professional wrestling’.

Lane mentions that on one of his shows this past week, The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer was perplexed over people being on their phones while sitting ringside at wrestling shows. Russo says he doesn’t blame these people for being on their phones at all because they’re obviously bored out of their minds.

Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet mentioned this past week that the Hype Bros were more deserving of a main card spot at Clash of Champions than the Triple Threat US Title match. Russo calls Satin a jackass, and mentions that Satin probably hates Baron Corbin because he was a football player and a legitimate athlete, and Satin can’t relate to that.

At another point last week, Meltzer said that RAW has probably been losing viewers in the last hour because of long matches which feature talents who aren’t over. Russo says that nobody’s over on RAW right now, so who are WWE going to put in the ring?

As seen at Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions event, Natalya gave a speech about being let down by the women’s division and the WWE fans and claimed that everyone turned their backs on her. She then added that she was turning her back on them.

Many speculated that this could lead to her retirement, which Natalya shot down on Twitter but also deleted the post.

The whole point of Clash of Champions is that every champion must defend their title. The chances of a title changing hands are quite high. Multi-man matches such as the triple threat for the US Championship and the fatal four-way tag team match almost guarantee a change in champions.

I believe that we’re going to see new champions come Sunday. Who do I believe will be a champion after Clash of Champions?

United States Champion: Baron Corbin

The whole point of booking a Triple Threat is so that the champion can lose their title without being pinned. However, I think that this Sunday, Corbin retains, but not by pinning Bobby Roode. I’m not a betting man, but I’d bet a considerable sum on Dolph Ziggler eating the pin.

It’s far too early to take the title off Baron Corbin. He’s found his groove as a character and as a champion. To take it away from him now would a a tad odd, to say the least. Besides, a babyface chasing the title is a much more compelling tale. A chase would provide Bobby Roode with some character other than “glorious is my word of the day.”

The strange addition of Ziggler to the match pretty much means he’s there to protect the loser. It’s sad, but it’s true. Corbin is pinning Ziggler, and this extends the feud to at least another month.

Smackdown Women’s Champion: Carmella

Carmella’s been holding the Money in the Bank contract for an awful long time. It’s not unlikely that she cashes in. In fact, I think it’s quite likely. The lumberjack match stipulation pretty much ensures that the Riott Squad will be involved in the match at Clash of Champions. Should Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan interrupt the match and decimate both Charlotte and Natalya, who should pick the bones but Ms. Money in the Bank herself?

This frees up Charlotte to team up with Naomi to face the growing threat that is the Riott Squad. This leaves a possible dearth of challengers for Carmella should she become champion, but it is what it is. The absence of Becky Lynch is affecting the division, but I honestly believe Carmella is walking away from Boston with the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

WWE published an article recently about the company’s Grand Slam Champions and JBL wasn’t mentioned in the piece. This prompted the former WWE personality to respond to being snubbed by the company and questioned if the list is even complete.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that John Cena was only brought in to work the WWE Survivor Series event. As of this writing, Cena is not scheduled for the December 17th Clash of the Champions event, even though it’s in Boston.

Cena is currently scheduled to return to WWE at the RAW Live Event on December 26th in Madison Square Garden.
