Deadline.com reports that John Cena will be starring with Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) in an untitled buddy cop comedy. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom) is slated to direct.

Cena is currently working on the “Bumblebee” Transformers spinoff movie, which features him in the lead role. The movie is scheduled to release on December 21, 2018.

It was speculated that John Cena would be taking time off to take part in the filming for the upcoming Bumblebee Transformers movie, however that’s not the case.

Even though filming for the movie has already started production and Cena has one of the lead roles in the film, he will not be taking time off yet. Bryan Alvarez confirmed on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Live that Cena is scheduled for WWE events through September.

With Cena being scheduled for the RAW-brand No Mercy pay-per-view event, there is talk that he may be working the RAW brand after this month’s SummerSlam event. Cena is also scheduled for every RAW television taping through September except for the September 18th event because he will be touring in China the day before with the SmackDown Live brand.

John Cena has landed a lead role in the upcoming “Bumblebee” film, which is a spinoff of the Transformers movies.

The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham will also executive produce. The film is currently scheduled for a December 21st, 2018 release date. Production kicks off today in California.
