The Big Dog Has Been Unleashed — Now Turn Him Heel

There’s no greater feeling than getting to see something you’ve been waiting a long time for. In the wrestling world, there are few events that get every single person talking. We saw one of those moments transpire in front of our eyes last night. It wasn’t for the faint at heart.

At Great Balls of Fire, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman battled in a brutal Ambulance Match. Both men really did a number on each other, which is going to happen when you hate each other as much as these men did. The one mistake Reigns made was the high jumping spear. Braun moved out of the way and Reigns flew straight into the ambulance, allowing Strowman to secure the victory. As Braun looked to celebrate the victory, Reigns had other plans.

Getting a burst of energy from who knows where, Roman proceeded to flying out of the ambulance and unleashing a spear on the monster. After connecting with the finisher, Roman throws Braun into the back of the ambulance and drives to the parking lot. Roman contemplates his next move, then goes in for the attack. He throws it into reverse and drives full speed into the back of a trailer. First Roman attacked Braun after the match, then this? Roman hobbles out the ambulance, looking back at the disaster he has caused. Everyone is freaking out at this point, trying to get Braun out of the ambulance. Roman could not care less how Braun was doing. It was evil, it was diabolical, it was sheer genius.

It was a sick and twisted side that’s yet to be seen.

Both Slater and Hawkins took to their Twitter accounts to react to the match:

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Family Before Wrestling, Ripping on His Son, When did Wrestlers Become Marks? More!

Russo mentions that he can’t stop thinking about the new Kevin Owens documentary, where Owens was shown backstage after his Universal Title win crying with Sami Zayn, Triple H and others. He talked about this on his show yesterday, and it’s been stuck in his head ever since. He can’t believe that ‘professional’ wrestlers are crying backstage over being scripted to win a fake Title.

Russo informs that he has worked with some of the biggest stars the industry ever produced. King Kong Bundy, Hogan, The Rock, Austin, they were all professionals. They came to work every day, did their job, and went home at the end of the night. They carried themselves perfectly, and they knew that they were working in the entertainment business.

Somewhere along the line, the wrestlers became marks. He knows that this doesn’t apply to all the performers, because he doesn’t picture guys like Braun Strowman or Roman Reigns acting this way. For the most part however, today’s generation of wrestlers are taking themselves and the business so seriously that they forget about the actual important things in life.

New Match Added to WWE Great Balls of Fire

WWE announced that Seth Rollins will face Bray Wyatt at the upcoming WWE Great Balls of Fire event. Here is the updated card:

WWE Universal Title Match
Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar

Ambulance Match
Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman

Cruiserweight Title Match
Akira Tozawa vs. Neville

Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins

Great Balls of Fire takes place on July 9th from the American Airlines Center in Dallas. As always, we will have live play-by-play coverage of the event.

Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar Moved to SummerSlam?

There is speculation that the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match that was previously scheduled to take place at WrestleMania 34 could be taking place at SummerSlam this year instead.

This move is being taken to increase the presence of the Universal Title on weekly RAW shows in order to increase the poor TV ratings. The speculation holds a lot of relevance since Reigns announced that he was next in line to challenge Lesnar for the title on this week’s Monday Night RAW episode.

Additionally, Dave Meltzer mentioned in a recent installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that plans may have changed because Braun Strowman returned from injury much earlier than expected. With his early return, some planned matches have been switched around.

Dinner with the King Recap – Great Balls of Fire Insight, Advice for Wannabe Wrestlers, Who Had the Best ‘Puppies’ in WWE? More!

Lawler is joined on today’s show by his co-host Glenn Moore.

Lawler informs that he appeared at the Comicon in Washington, DC this past weekend. He says that he had a great time there and he was able to see a lot of old friends. WWE Superstars Charlotte Flair and Nakamura even made an appearance on Saturday.

A listener writes into the show and asks Lawler which current WWE Superstar would fit well in Memphis Wrestling back in the day. Lawler says that he worked as the top babyface in Memphis for a long time, so their goal was always to find big, strong heels to work against him. Guys like Kamala and Bam Bam Bigelow fit that mould.

In that sense, there are a number of guys in WWE today that would work out well in Memphis. Lawler says that they would have made a lot of money with someone like Brock Lesnar in Memphis back in the day. They could also do wonders with talents such as Baron Corbin, Bray Wyatt and of course Braun Strowman.

Conflicting Reports on Braun Strowman’s WWE Status

While PWInsider reported earlier today that Braun Strowman was cleared to return to action and is just waiting for WWE creative to pencil him in, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet says otherwise.

Satin mentioned on Twitter that he came across this story and confirmed with his sources that the information PWInsider reported was not accurate.

“Just read an incorrect report on Braun. While he IS close to coming back, my sources say Strowman has NOT been cleared for return yet.” Satin added, “The report today said cleared to return and waiting for creative plans though, which isn’t accurate.”
