While appearing on Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Big Cass provided an update on his injury and when he may return.

Big Cass said that if everything goes right with his recovery from the ACL tear, he should be able to return AFTER WrestleMania 34.

While away from WWE he said he’s been practicing Spanish and he will be more fluent when he returns to the company.

Big Cass recently appeared on Booker T’s podcast. Here are highlights from the appearance:

How his recovery is going:  “I’m doing good. Just in the process of recovering right now from an ACL injury. Kind of just have a lot of time to myself but I’m doing really good and I’m on schedule to come back when the doctor’s think I’ll be back. So, I’m just rehabbing every day and trying to get back as soon as possible.”

First thing he thought of when he knew he was injured:  “I tweaked it on the way out of the ring and then it kind of curled under me when I landed on the floor. I heard it pop, I felt it pop and I immediately knew that I had torn my ACL. My brain told me, “You just tore your ACL.” Just from everything I’ve heard and everything I’ve seen about ACL tears I kind of knew right away. Then, I tried getting up and back in the ring and I kind of couldn’t really walk on it but I slid back in the ring and continued. The ref checked on me because he knew something was up and I told him, “I think I can go. I think I can finish the match.” So, I knew my knee was torn but your first instinct is always, “I’ve got to keep going if you can possibly go.” I’m obviously, visibly hurt. I am hobbling and I slammed Enzo into the ground and then I went for the elbow off my left leg. I always do my elbow off my left leg and my leg just went out. The ref came over to me and said, “Roll over, get out of the ring.” It’s frustrating when your brain is telling you to do something and your body won’t let you. That’s the most frustrating thing. I knew when I landed I had torn my ACL. Just from everything I had heard and read, I knew right away.”

What’s Next For Rey Mysterio?

It’s been reported for a while now that Rey Mysterio has been in talks with both WWE and GFW about working for their respective promotions. But now, it’s being reported that Rey is bound for neither company.

The talks with GFW fell through, as did the ones with WWE. GFW wanted Rey to work with Alberto El Patron at Bound For Glory, but with so many things up in the air with the promotion, the talks of bringing Rey in went nowhere.

As for WWE, the word is that Vince McMahon did not want to work with Rey’s representation, mainly Konnan. So while there was some back and forth between the two parties, nothing seems to have been serious on either side.

Rey seems to be focused now on training his son Dominick for his in-ring future, as well as being heavily involved in Crash in Mexico. Plus, he recently suffered an ankle injury at a Catch Wrestling show in Austria, so he may be out of action in any promotion for the next little while.

Big Cass On Enzo’s “Heat”

During a recent appearance on The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Big Cass discussed Enzo Amore’s supposed “backstage heat” and how WWE was weaving that into current story lines.

“Enzo is Enzo. Like, the guy you see on TV is the guy you see in real life. Enzo is Enzo and, I’ve said this before, Enzo wouldn’t be in the spot he’s in, he would’ve never made it this far if he didn’t act the way he does, so there’s good with bad. A guy like that, that’s how he got that far, it’s just being Enzo.

I’d kind of just say it’s a ‘go out and take it’ mentality. That’s Enzo. That’s how he got this far and the odds were stacked against that guy many times. He got this far because that’s who he is.

The storyline has kind of taken on its own thing. Like once it started being talked about and people started talking about it on the internet, then they were like, ‘oh, people talk about it? Okay, if it’s not real, let’s pretend it is and let’s put it even more out there on TV.”

WWE provided the following update regarding Big Cass’ surgery he had recently:

Big Cass underwent successful surgery to repair an ACL tear in his left knee, sustained during the Brooklyn Street Fight against Enzo Amore on Raw.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas Thursday night, and Cass has already begun rehabilitation.

If you missed WWE Monday Night RAW this week, Big Cass suffered a legitimate anterior cruciate ligament, or commonly referred to as ACL, injury during a spot in his match with Enzo Amore. He went for a big boot, and when Amore dodged, Cass went through the ropes and landed awkwardly outside the ring. Cass was heard screaming expletives due to his pain and frustration.

On Thursday, Carmella posted pictures of Cass recovering from surgery. She tweeted he’s in more agony over the lack of pizza than the surgery itself.

On Friday morning, Carmella posted a new photo where she’s laying next to him on the hospital bed watching what is likely the sitcom Friends, while drinking Starbucks beverages.

As a result of the injury, Cass could miss several months of action. Top Rope Press reported earlier this week about WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson’s estimate that a typical ACL tear takes about nine months to recover from, therefore we might not see Cass until sometime after WrestleMania.

Big Cass Out Until 2018

As we saw on last night’s RAW, Big Cass suffered a legit injury during his match with Enzo Amore. Cass took a bad fall over the top rope and landed awkwardly, leading to the match to be stopped. He was set for an MRI today, and WWE has updated his status.

“It looks like he has an ACL tear, possibly a medial meniscus tear, but we’re going to wait for the radiologist to evaluate the MRI and give us their full report,” WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson said.

“A typical ACL tear takes about nine months [to recover from],” Robinson said.

Here’s hoping Cass has a full and speedy recovery.

Debuts & Returns On Tonight’s SmackDown Live

Tonight’s SmackDown Live saw the main roster debut of Bobby Roode. The Glorious One his first match with Aiden English, dispatching him with ease.

Tonight’s show also saw the return of former Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin, who was supposed to return to WWE last year but didn’t due to having to undergo shoulder surgery, made his return during a backstage segment with Daniel Bryan and Chad Gable. It looks like Benjamin’s first role on the blue brand will be as Gable’s tag team partner.

Taz opens today’s show by discussing last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

He says that the first segment of RAW was certainly designed to get Braun Strowman over, and Lesnar did a great job of making Strowman look like a monster yet again. The only thing that bothered him about that first segment was that neither Strowman or Lesnar were taped up, showing the battle scars from the war they went through on Sunday night.

Taz goes on to say that WWE really needed to have these two warriors look fatigued from Sunday night, and some tape would have been a great, visual way to get that point across to fans. He also points out that from a commentating perspective, it’s hard to logically explain how someone can be stretched out of an arena and then appear the next night with no battle wounds.

Taz felt like Enzo Amore and Big Cass had a plethora of chemistry as a tag team, but they have absolutely none as opponents. This was proven again in last night’s street fight, which wasn’t ever going to be a competitive match in the first place. Unfortunately it appeared as if Big Cass suffered a legitimate injury during the bout and Taz hopes he’s okay.

Big Cass suffered a legitimate and serious injury during this week’s Monday Night RAW. During the first match of the night from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Big Cass competed against former tag-team partner Enzo Amore in a Brooklyn Street Fight. Cass went to hit his signature big boot on Amore, who dodged it, and Cass took an awkward fall to the outside. He tried to stand but it was clear there was something wrong. The referee made the dreaded “X” gesture, which signaled a legitimate injury occurred and medical assistance was required.

Cass was visibly furious with the referee stoppage and injury. As a reminder, RAW is a live program and there were audio cuts while Cass was shouting expletives. The referee gave Amore the victory since Cass could no longer compete due to the injury.

Later during RAW, WWE.com provided the following update:

The injury occurred after Amore dodged a big boot by pulling down the top rope, sending Cass to the floor in the process.

“It’s hard to tell what the extent of the injury is, but we’re going to send him to get an MRI tomorrow and figure that out,” said WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson.

After RAW ended, WWE posted backstage footage of Cass.
