As previously reported, Daniel Bryan had a huge shift in the betting odds over the past couple of days and is now one of the favorites now to win the men’s Royal Rumble match at next Sunday’s pay-per-view.

Bryan Alvarez indicated on the recent installment of Wrestling Observer Live that someone within WWE pitched the idea of having Daniel Bryan win the rumble. Word got out about the pitch among individuals that work for the company and they decided to place bets on him winning the match. This caused a huge shift in the betting odds in favor of Bryan winning.

As of this writing, Bryan is still not cleared to return to in-ring action, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out on television.

There has been a major shift in the betting odds for the winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match. Daniel Bryan, who previously had the worse odds to win the match, is now one of the favorites to win the match.

Bryan went from having a 66/1 chance to 9/1 or 10/1 odds of winning on several betting sites such as Skybet, Paddy Power and Betfair. The reason this shift is interesting has to do withDaniel Bryan not being cleared to wrestle and Bryan recently mentioning that if he’s not cleared by WrestleMania, that he’d be leaving the company.

As of this writing, we are unable to confirm that this shift has to do with any “smart money” bets. Historically, “smart money” bets come in just a few days before the event. We will keep you updated if we hear anything regarding Daniel competing at The Rumble.

The Royal Rumble will take place on January 28, 2018, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It will be the thirty-first event under the Royal Rumble chronology and the first to feature a Women’s Royal Rumble match.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that an “insider” who knew all the finishes to all the matches at SummerSlam made a killing betting on match outcomes.

The individual reportedly did a $3.36 parlay on ten matches – all in which he got correct. He ended up banking $45,600. The reason this worked out was that the gambling sites didn’t adjust the lines due to the lack of “smart money” bets and none of the finishes were changed at last minute by Vince McMahon.

There has been talk within the betting industry that gambling sites are considering dropping WWE out of their betting lineup due to insiders capitalizing and making a lot of money.

Coming out of Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, Jinder Mahal is the favored to retain his WWE Title at the upcoming WWE SummerSlam event. Here are the updated betting odds, courtesy of Bet Wrestling:

• Jinder Mahal +115
• Shinsuke Nakamura +165
• Baron Corbin +295

It’s very likely these odds will change several times, especially when “smart money” bets start to be placed days before the show.

Here are the early betting odds for the upcoming WWE Battleground event:

• Flag match between John Cena and Rusev. Cena is favored at -400, meaning it would take a successful $400 bet to win +100. Rusev is a +280 underdog in this match.
• The WWE Championship match, a Punjabi Prisonmatch, sees the champion Jinder Mahal as a projected -200 favorite. The underdog, Randy Orton, is a +250 underdog.
