Tommaso Ciampa made his return to WWE television at tonight’s NXT Takeover: Philadelphia event. Ciampa appeared and blasted Johnny Gargano from behind with a crutch after his loss against Andrade Almas in the main event of the show.

For those not aware, Ciampa underwent multiple surgeries back in August. Those surgeries included his right ankle, right shoulder, and left shoulder. Ciampa was limping away after the segment, so it’s very unlikely that he has not been cleared to return to action. WWE most-likely did the angle to help build to a feud between Ciampa and Gargano at a later date.

NXT Superstar Tommaso Ciampa has undergone three surgeries in the past 12 weeks, all performed by Dr. Jeff Dugas at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

The first surgery was on his right ankle, the second was on his right shoulder, and the third was on his left shoulder. Tommaso is expected to be out for the rest of the year and will most-likely miss the first couple of months of 2018.

Tommaso posted the following on Twitter regarding the surgeries:

12 weeks. 3 surgeries. 1 goal.
