SmackDown Live Superstar Shelton Benjamin recently did an interview with WWE.com where he discussed several topics, like what it was like to return to the WWE after seven years, and about teaming up with Chad Gable.

Shelton says that he is still trying to get used to being in WWE after working on improving himself for the past seven years.

“It’s all kind of surreal, and I don’t feel like it’s hit me yet. Since I left the WWE, I moved to improve myself as a performer and come back. I really didn’t expect it to take seven years. So, it’s been a long road and I’m still trying to get used to it. It’s all very surreal. Being back with WWE is an emotional high and a professional high. So far, so good.”

Shelton was released from WWE along with several other superstars back in April of 2010. After his release, Shelton made a return to the independent circuit and wrestled for various promotions like World Wrestling Council, Ring of Honor, NJPW and has also worked for Global Force Wrestling and several other promotions.

Shelton made his return on August 17, 2017 at the WWE and teamed up with Chad Gable. Shelton says that Chad is a tremendous athlete like his former partner Charlie Haas.

“Without a doubt. Chad is a great athlete, just like Charlie. Before I even get into that, though, Charlie Haas is, to this day, still my best friend. He’s my brother. We talk all the time. WWE created family when they put us together. We worked hard together and he helped push me. When you insert Chad Gable, obviously, there is going to be the comparisons to Charlie. I don’t like to make that comparison because they’re two different people. This isn’t The World’s Greatest Tag Team, this isn’t American Alpha — we are something completely different. But, obviously, there are similarities. They’re both tremendous athletes. They both have great drive, and even in the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Gable show signs of the intensity that Charlie had.”

Gable’s Tribute to Jordan

Following the news of Kurt Angle’s new son during Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live superstar Chad Gable wrote a lengthy Instagram post to his former American Alpha partner, Jason Jordan. Addressed to Jason Angle, Gable first thanked Jordan for launching his professional wrestling career. Gable highlighted the milestones he and Jordan had together as American Alpha, such as winning the NXT Tag Team Championship, being drafted to the SmackDown Live, and winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championship against The Wyatt Family last December. He also acknowledged personal moments where Jordan stood by Gable’s side during injuries.

In the Instagram post, Gable confirmed American Alpha is no more.

The lengthy Instagram post comes after Gable’s short Twitter response following the RAW segment where RAW General Manager Kurt Angle announced Jordan was his son. Gable’s tweet quickly attracted over 10-thousand retweets and more than 25-thousand likes within 16 hours.

Gable’s Solo Career

American Alpha, as a tag team on SmackDown Live broadcasts, has been infrequent during the last month. Gable competed in a singles match against then-United States Champion Kevin Owens and AJ Styles in recent weeks, which garnered praise from fellow performers, WWE alumni, and fans. SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan responded to Gable’s tweet last night.

American Alpha was the first tag team to win the NXT Tag Team Championship and later the SmackDown Tag Team Championship within the same year.

American Alpha’s Chad Gable received praise following his SmackDown Live match against AJ Styles. The former SmackDown Tag Team Champion competed against Styles for the final slot in the Independence Day Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender for Kevin Owens’ United States Championship. While most fans expected Styles to win the match, Gable still shined against The Phenomenal One.

After the match, Styles, while helping the Olympian stand on his feet, shook Gable’s hand.

On early Wednesday morning, Styles tweeted praise about Gable.

Gable and Styles were also commended by Jim Ross and Lance Storm.

Gable’s July 4th match was his second singles match in recent weeks where his American Alpha partner Jason Jordan was not ringside. In an interview after his match, Gable said Jordan and himself “thrive on competition,” either tag team or singles.

“We support each other 100-percent, and we’re good. Wait till Jason gets his chance. He’s going to show the exact same thing I did. We can hang with any single guy on this roster. Not just any tag team like we’ve proven. Any single guy.”

While he lost against AJ Styles, Chad Gable said he won’t lose to the same people twice.

WWE has added Brock Lesnar to the SmackDown Live event at the Joe Louis Arena. The event, which takes place on July 29th, will feature Jinder Mahal, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Baron Corbin, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Apollo Crews, American Alpha and The Usos.

This will be the final event at the Joe Louis Arena. The venue opened in 1979 and will be torn down and replaced with the Little Ceasars Arena.
