Alberto El Patron Suing Mexican Promotion Company

Alberto El Patron, who can’t stay out of the news to save his life, has filed a lawsuit against Mexican promotion XL Entertainment.

The lawsuit stems from El Patron’s claims that he and other wrestlers were not paid for shows that the company booked them on in May for Federacion Universal de Lucha Libre (FULL). The other wrestlers named in the suit include Blue Demon Jr. and Cibernetico, among others.

Season 2 Of GLOW About To Begin Filming

After the hugely popular first season of the Netflix original series GLOW, which is loosely based on the 80s promotion and popular Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, the second season of the show is about to go into production. The show will start filming in California on October 16th, and like the first season, it will consist of ten episodes. The cast and crew are scheduled to begin training for the upcoming season next week.

Apparently, some of the original cast will return for the next season, including Alison Briem who plays Ruth Wilder, and Marc Maron, who plays Sam Sylvia. Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong to wrestling fans) is also reported to return to reprise her role as Tamee.

There is no word yet as to when GLOW’s second season will premiere on Netflix.

Alberto El Patron’s GFW Return Confirmed

As we reported yesterday, there were plans in the works for Rey Mysterio and Alberto El Patron to face off at GFW’s Bound For Glory later this year, but those fell through due to El Patron’s suspension and the talks between GFW and Mysterio falling through. But during a GFW conference call today, John Gaburick, one of the members of the company’s creative team, confirmed that El Patron will be returning to the promotion for Bound For Glory in November.

“We have plans for Alberto, we’re excited that he’s gonna be coming back at Bound For Glory. We’re excited about the future for Alberto, he’s an amazing talent and as a creative group we’re really excited to come up with some real cool scenarios and stories for him in the upcoming months.”

Bram Tries To Clear The Air

After a furor on social media this morning where fans were extremely vocal about their displeasure at Ireland’s OTT Wrestling for booking Bram, the promotion canceled his appearance. Bram then took to social media to tell his side of the story.

Bram, in part, said he was falsely accused by someone out to hurt his reputation and that he has never physically harmed a woman. He then called out the so-called “social justice warriors”, accusing them of hateful rhetoric.

Bram was arrested in 2015 and charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation as well as one count of false imprisonment after authorities responded to calls of a fight in his home. It was noted in the arrest report that he admitted to holding the victim down by her throat and refused to let her leave a bedroom. He later plead not guilty to all charges. The case was resolved when the State Attorney’s office declined to prosecute.

More drama is floating around with Anthem and Global Force Wrestling. As we’ve been reporting throughout the week, Jeff Jarrett has been “removed” from his position as Chief Creative Officer, reports have surfaced that Anthem is hemorraging money and looking to sell the company, and Anthem doesn’t actually own any of GFW’s trademarks or anything else associated with the promotion.

And, the bad news keeps coming. Last night’s episode of Impact Wrestling, which went against the NFL opener for part of the show, did 227,000 overnight viewers, way down from the 268,000 overnight viewers that they did last week. That is the second lowest watched first run episode in over a decade. Last year, Impact drew an audience of 337,000 against Thursday Night Football last year.

Jim Cornette, one of the on-air authority figures on Impact, has confirmed that he will be at Bound For Glory on November 5th.

“Just got off the phone not long ago – Sunday, Nov. 5 I will be at Bound for Glory in Orlando, Florida, the Global Force Wrestling pay-per-view. More to come… I’m not sure, I can’t be at all the TVs that week, but I may be at TV, but more to come on that. But I will be at Bound for Glory.”

Alberto El Patron spoke with Sports Illustrated about his plans on returning to Global Force Wrestling and Impact, as well.

“I’ve been in touch with Global Force Wrestling, and we’re working to bring back Alberto El Patron to the company. We’re working to find something that will please the fans. At the end of the day, I work for the fans; they are the ones I work to please. I am going to put all my heart, all my passion into making this work. I am completely focused on where I want to take the company in November, and I promise to make the company great again, and Alberto is going to be on top again.”

And, Kevin Sullivan, Global Force Wrestling Vice President Of Production, took to Twitter to blast Sports Illustrated for it’s reports of Anthem wanting to rid itself of Global Force Wrestling.

Global Force Wrestling and POP TV have signed a new contract that will keep Impact on the cable network through 2018. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter broke the news in the latest edition, and it was noted that the deal is not “financially effective”.

WON is also reporting that Alberto El Patron is not done with GFW. He’s reportedly due back at Impact during the November tapings. El Patron was stripped of the GFW World Title earlier this month after a domestic violence incident that has since been dropped and disposed of.

GFW has also released a statement on the incident involving Rosemary and Sexy Star at last weekend’s TripleMania event in Mexico.

It was an honor for GFW to be invited to participate in TripleMania XXV, held this past weekend in Mexico City. The AAA talent that we have worked with have been consummate professionals and the company organized and delivered an extraordinary event, in which both DJZ and Andrew Everett had spectacular showings following their recent surgeries. While the incident with Sexy Star marred an outstanding show, AAA executives have confirmed to us that appropriate measures are being taken in respect of this incident. Both AAA and Sexy Star have apologized to Rosemary. It is time to focus on the positives of the weekend (TripleMania XXV outrated the other sports entertainment event on Saturday evening in Mexico; Eddie Edwards became the first gaijin to win the GHC Heavyweight title at NOAH) and look forward to building our relationship with AAA and NOAH to bring an ever improving wrestling product to our fans.

Paige Cleared In Orlando Domestic Violence Incident

It looks like WWE Superstar Paige is off the hook for that domestic violence incident in an Orlando airport last month. As we reported, Paige and fiancé Alberto El Patron were involved in a shouting match at the airport where El Patron was originally detained by police, but no charges were filed at the time. After days of the story changing, Paige cleared the air, saying that it was her that instigated the incident, not El Patron.

It’s being reported now that the case is officially closed. A rep for the 9th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in Florida says that the victim (El Patron) did not want to move forward with charges.

Let’s hope that these two fly below the radar from now on.

Braun Strowman On His Push

In a recent interview, Braun Strowman talked about his current positioning in WWE. Strowman has quickly become a highlight of WWE programming, and he is seeming to take it all in stride.

“I don’t take it as pressure. I take it as opportunities. We are all given opportunities to do what we do and anytime WWE hands me the ball, I put my head down and I run as hard as I can and so far, no one’s been able to stop me.

“It’s surreal still to me. Being in videogames and all that stuff. I grew up a small-town boy and didn’t have a whole lot. To see myself on the lights, plastered all over, my picture’s on the Barclays Center. I’m in the new WWE 2K18 videogame and I’m main eventing Summerslam and literally almost two years to the day I debuted, I’m main eventing [for WWE]. So, if that doesn’t speak to my work ethic, I don’t know what does.”

GFW Title Vacated, Still Suspended

Following an internal investigation, Global Force Wrestling (GFW) has stripped Alberto El Patron of the company’s Unified GFW World Heavyweight Championship. In early July, GFW announced El Patron was “indefinitely suspended” after reports surfaced of an alleged domestic violence incident between himself and WWE superstar, and girlfriend, Paige. In a statement last month, GFW confirmed El Patron was suspended and would not appear at its live events until the company finalized its independent inquiry.

On Monday night, GFW revealed the Unified GFW World Heavyweight Championship will now be vacant, but they also took a swipe at how reports characterized El Patron’s connection in the alleged domestic incident.

GFW’s full statement:

“GFW has concluded its internal consideration of the events surrounding the suspension of Alberto El Patron. While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manor in which he dealt with this situation; we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion.”

“We have communicated with El Patron our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron.”

What’s Next?

GFW has yet to reveal how they’ll determine the next  Unified GFW World Heavyweight Champion, but the next GFW broadcast of Impact Wrestling this Thursday is a live episode for its “Destination X” special.

Former champion Booby Lashley, however was quick to tweet he wants the title back.

Global Force Wrestling (GFW) returns to New York this weekend and fans may not need to buy tickets to both shows since they’re repeating most of the matches. The Friday, August 4th show in St. James, Long Island, and Saturday, August 5th show from Staten Island Yankee Stadium will have the same main event of James Storm, Moose, and John Hennigan vs. Lashley, Eli Drake, and EC3. There also appears to be one Knockouts match on both cards, which is always subject to change, pitting Allie vs. Sienna and Taya Valkyrie.

Absent from the two shows is Unified GFW World Heavyweight Championship Alberto El Patron. Earlier this month, he has been indefinitely suspended while GFW investigates an alleged domestic dispute between him and his girlfriend, WWE superstar Paige.

As Top Rope Press reported, a third show in Connecticut was originally scheduled but was canceled. The Bridgeport show, scheduled for Sunday, August 4^th, was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances and logistical challenges.” Fans who purchased tickets for the Connecticut show can exchange their tickets for one of the New York shows.

Alberto El Patron Cleared

It’s being reported that Alberto El Patron is no longer under a cloud of suspicion after the domestic violence incident earlier this month between him and Paige at an Orlando airport. As we have reported over the past several weeks, the two were involved in a shouting match at the airport, and despite a variety of witness statements and recordings coming out, the initial story of El Patron being the instigator are apparently false.

We reported earlier this week that Paige may face charges stemming from the incident, and now that El Patron has been cleared, that seems more and more likely.

There’s no word yet on when his GFW suspension will be lifted.

Matt Sydal Injured At GFW Tapings

Matt Sydal was recently injured during the last set of Global Force Wrestling tapings. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during a 6-man tag match, and he’s been limited as to what he can do in the ring ever since. There’s no word as to the severity of the injury or if he will need time off to recover. After working indie shows in the UK and Israel, it appears that he is working through the injury.

Kevin Owens On Styles’ Feud & Dream WrestleMania Match

During an interview to promote Saturday’s WWE Live Event from Wildwood, New Jersey, Kevin Owens spoke about his feud against United States Champion AJ Styles and his dream WrestleMania opponent. The interview for At The Shore was mostly conducted with Owens remaining in character. He said Styles is a “terrible example” for America’s youth.

Does Owens enjoy working with Styles? He replied:

“Yeah, I don’t enjoy it at all actually. I’d rather never having to work with him again. He has my title, and I have to go after and it looks like we’re nowhere near done. Unfortunately, I have to step in the ring with him several more times. It’s part of what we do.”

As Top Rope Press reported, Owens lost the United States Championship to Styles during a WWE Live Event from Madison Square Garden on July 7. Styles’ win marked his first United States Championship reign in the WWE.

In regards to WrestleMania, Owens’ dream opponent is, perhaps unsurprisingly, Sami Zayn.

“I feel like Sami Zayn. It would be such a great chapter to add to our story. We’ve been at each other’s throats and by each other’s sides simultaneously the last 15 years. It would be great to do something with him.”

Zayn isn’t the only dream opponent. Owens also named Finn Bálor, who he referred to as his best friend. Owens explained he and Bálor entered the WWE at the exact same time and go to know each other better while in developmental. Bálor and Owens had several matches against each other in NXT, including Bálor capturing the NXT Championship in Japan and a Ladder Match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015.

El Patron Steps Down?

Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren revealed Alberto El Patron, real name Jose Alberto Rodriguez, might step down from his duties as president of the organization. Speaking to MMAUNO.com, McLaren said El Patron is making his own decision on resigning from the role.

McLaren said:

“Alberto is a really good friend of mine and his girlfriend Saraya who is ‘Paige’ I’m sure you know, they become very close friends of mine and when they are in New York they come out to dinner with my wife and I. They are good pals, but what Alberto is telling me, is that his first love is wrestling. You know, his father was ‘Dos Caras’ a very famous wrestler and Saraya’s family is third generation English wrestlers, you know about her right? And so what Alberto has said to me, and we haven’t unveiled this yet, but we can talk about it, he’s probably stepping back his official roles from Combate and he’s going to focus on more on wrestling for the next year or two.”

McLaren added that El Patron’s request to step down was likely for him to focus on another wrestling run. According to the Combate Americas CEO, juggling the professional wrestling and president duties would’ve been challenging for El Patron.

El Patron was announced as Combate Americas’ president in October 2016.

It’s the never-ending story striking again. As we reported all throughout last week, Paige and fiancée Alberto El Patron were involved in a screaming match in an Orlando airport last weekend. Various versions of the story are out there, but what started out as someone calling the police on El Patron for domestic battery turned into a case of Paige being the one to instigate the incident.

Now, it’s being reported that Paige could be charged with battery stemming from the situation. According to Orlando police:

“OPD detectives have found that probable cause exists to charge Saraya Bevis with Battery (Domestic Violence). Detectives have sent the information to the State Attorney’s Office for review and the SAO will determine whether to file charges in the case.”

At this point, though, it is apparently up to the States Attorney’s Office as to whether or not charges are pressed on the troubled WWE star.

Paige and El Patron have had an…interesting relationship, to say the least. This is only the latest incident in a long line of problems for the couple, most of which have been self-inflicted by the duo.
