Switchover: AEW Star Turns Heel In Surprising Moment On Dynamite

There’s your switch. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler and some of them involve switching things up a bit. At some point a wrestler needs to be freshened up a bit, which can also shake up a story going forward. Occasionally it can involved a wrestler turning from either good to evil or vice versa. That was the case again this week in a major spot, and it seems to be setting up something down the road.

The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite was a barbed wire match between Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho, with the Jericho Appreciation Society suspended in a shark cage above the ring. Ruby Soho was in charge of the cage but Tay Conti attacked her during the match. Anna Jay ran in to save Soho before turning on her and siding with Conti, turning heel in the process. Jay and Conti are former partners and friends who split earlier in the year.

Opinion: AEW certainly likes to turn wrestlers to the dark side and that is going to become a problem one day. At some point, the company needs to have some stars built up and it would be nice to go a bit longer before turning them over. Jay and Conti do have some success in their history, but I’m not sure if they needed to be turned back this way again so soon.
