There He Is: Explanation Behind Eddie Kingston Quitting AEW Revealed

That explains it. The wrestling world has changed quite a bit in recent years as different companies have started to work together. While there would previously be occasional crossovers between promotions, it was rare to see one company working together with another. Now we are seeing it more frequently, which is what was on display this week in a big way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Redeemer Waits: Update On Miro’s AEW Contract Situation Ring Of Honor TV made its return this week with its first weekly show after being purchased by Tony Khan last year. REVIEW: WWF WrestleFest 91: Contains A Hidden Gem

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? WrestleFest 1991 Host: Randy Savage Commentators: Lord Alfred Hayes, Sean Mooney Sometimes you need to get away from weekly TV and do some good(ish) old fashioned Coliseum Video. That’s what we have here, with another compilation tape released in July 1991. You never know what you might get on here but that can make for some interesting watches. Let’s get to it. Randy Savage: Man Of Leisure (as the graphic says) is sitting by the pool as the audio from his career ending loss at Wrestlemania VII plays in his head...

The 2023 Royal Rumble Event Was “Easy” Without Vince McMahon

It’s a new way to go. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the 2023 Royal Rumble event was said to have been the “easiest” that it’s has been in a long time, with regard to putting the show together. This is due to the lack of creative involvement from Vince McMahon. This year’s Royal Rumble was the first under Triple H and the report states that there was a good feeling about the show in the end, including the morale among talent. Furthermore, it was said that from a day-to-day and weekly basis, the atmosphere is much more laid back. One of the only reminders of Vince’s influence remains the “Vince’s office” directional sign that hasn’t been changed since he left but points to a section of the backstage area that is completely different. Vince has been notorious for changing things at the last minute and creating a sense of chaos and unease right before a show goes on the air. The report further states that the process of the Rumble itself was the easiest in a long..

He’s In: Update On WWE’s Plans For Sami Zayn Going Forward

Stick to the plan. We are coming up on WrestleMania 39 and the show’s main event has already been set. After winning the men’s Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes became the new #1 contender to Roman Reigns. Their title match has officially been set up, but there is a detail involving someone else on the roster. One other wrestler is rather popular at the moment, but WWE has made up its mind. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: What? Steve Austin Set To Host New Weekly Television Series The angle at the end of the Royal Rumble saw Sami Zayn turn on the Bloodline by attacking Reigns with a chair. The Bloodline then attacked Zayn to end the show. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is for Zayn to challenge Reigns at Elimination Chamber, which has “been the plan all along”. WWE reportedly does not see Zayn as the face of the company, while Rhodes is seen as someone who could potentially headline WrestleMania. There is nothing to suggest that any changes will be made to the shows’ main events. Thi..

What? Steve Austin Set To Host New Weekly Television Series

He can do other things. Wrestlers have a tricky situation when they are dealing with leaving the ring for good. Occasionally you can find a star who has something else to do once they leave the ring and manage to thrive at it, but that tends to be the top of the top stars. Now one of the biggest names in the history of wrestling is going to be trying another non-wrestling project. According to Wrestlenomics, Steve Austin will be hosting a new series called “Steve Austin Takes On America”. The series will debut on April 9 and run through June 11 over ten weeks. There are no further details on the series, which will air on A&E along with other WWE related series. Austin will also be the focus of two episodes of the WWE Rivals series, beginning on the night of the “Takes on America”. This Austin guy might have something. They’re In: WWE Signs Two More Former College Athletes

The roster grows. WWE has a roster with enough talent to fill up three weekly television shows, but those wrestlers have to be kept moving. At some point the roster is going to get a bit stale and needs some fresh blood, which is why WWE also brings in fresh talent every so often. Now they are doing that again, this time from other sports outside of professional wrestling. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Vince McMahon Agrees To Multi-Million Dollar Settlement, Ends 30+ Year Rape Allegation Ordeal PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE has signed two new stars to NXT. Next Target: WWE Reportedly Interested In 40 Year Old Second Generation Star

On the radar. There are a lot of talented wrestlers in the world who have nothing to do with WE. Those wrestlers often grow a following and reputation of their own and that can be enough to get WWE’s attention. WWE will often go after wrestlers from other promotions and that seems to be what they are trying to do now with a pair of second generation international stars. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Farewell? Weekly Wrestling Series Seems To Be Coming To An End Earlier this week, New Japan Pro Wrestling held its annual Wrestle Kingdom event. During the show, Tama Tonga defeated Karl Anderson to become the new Never Openweight Champion. According to Fightful Select, WWE is interested in Tonga and has been for quite some time. Farewell? Weekly Wrestling Series Seems To Be Coming To An End

One less? Wrestling has been around for a very long time and a lot of that time has seen it airing on television. It makes all the sense in the world as anyone can watch a wrestling match and get the basic idea. There are all kinds of ways to present wrestling and different promotions around the world have showcased it in varying styles. Now though, we might not be seeing one of them again. In a new post on his personal blog, New Japan’s Hiroshi Tanahashi revealed that New Japan Strong, the weekly New Japan American television series, will be coming to an end after this weekend’s television tapings. There was no reason given as to why the show would be coming to an end. However, last month, New Japan President Takami Ohbari said that New Japan Strong “will be rebuilt next year” (meaning 2023). ???????STRONG???????????????????#njpwSTRONG will be rebuilt next year. — ????/Takami Ohbari (@TAKAMIOHBARI) December 25, 2022 Strong had some good stuff. WATCH: Major Update To Bobby Lashley’s Monday Night Raw Status

Not so fast? Monday Night Raw is coming up on thirty years of weekly wrestling television and that is quite the accomplishment. The show has had all kinds of moments throughout its history, some of which have been more memorable than others. There have also been several stories that start up and are then dropped, which seems to have been the case again this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BREAKING: Surprise Title Change Takes Place In NXT Main Event The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Seth Rollins defeat Bobby Lashley to become #1 contender for the United States Title. The referee was bumped during the match though, meaning Lashley was unable to pin a downed Rollins. Following the match, Adam Pearce fired Lashley to end the show. Pearce has since posted a video to Twitter, saying that Lashley is not fired but there will be repercussions for his actions. The two will meet later this week to see how they can work together. It was a quick announcement. Check out the match, ..

Gold Day: Six New Champions Crowned Over Two Different Events

Hand them over. Titles are one of the most important concepts in all of wrestling. They represent the best and often most talented stars in the promotion and are often the main focal points. It can mean a lot when a title changes hands and there are nights when several of them change hands during the same show. That was the case this weekend, with a special double shot. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Better Than Nothing? Tony Khan Announces Upcoming Weekly Ring Of Honor Series There were two major events held on Saturday, with Ring Of Honor Final Battle and NXT Deadline. Between the two shows, there were eight title matches with six title changes. The following titles changed hands at Final Battle: • Athena defeated Mercedes Martinez to win the Women’s Title • The Embassy defeated Dalton Castle and the Boys to win the Six Man Tag Team Titles • Wheeler Yuta defeated Daniel Garcia to win the Pure Title • The Briscoes defeated FTR in a Double Dog Collar match to win the Tag Team Titles • Claud..

Better Than Nothing? Tony Khan Announces Upcoming Weekly Ring Of Honor Series

It’s something. One of the more interesting wrestling stories of the year has been the roller coaster that is Ring Of Honor. After being shut down for several months to start the year, the promotion was purchased by AEW owner Tony Khan and somewhat relaunched on AEW television. However, Ring Of Honor did not have any kind of distribution of its own. Now things have changed in a big way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: To The Other Side: Former NXT Champion Makes Surprise AEW Rampage Appearance During this weekend’s post Final Battle media scrum, Khan announced that Ring Of Honor will have its weekly television show on the HonorClub streaming service, which relaunched earlier this week. The service costs $9.99 a month and includes all of the Ring Of Honor video library. There is no specific date on when the show will launch, but Khan said an announcement was coming after the Los Angeles and Seattle shows. Khan also said that there will be less of a focus on Ring Of Honor on AEW programming. T..

No Wasting Time: WWE Considers Changes For Next WarGames Match

They want to make some adjustments. WWE is a major wrestling promotion and that is partially due to the kinds of adjustments they occasionally make. Sometimes something is not going right and a change is needed. That can make some of their ideas better, which is what they seem to be doing again, as WWE has debuted a new match type and already thinks it needs some tweaking. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Well Who Hasn’t: How Vince McMahon Spent $30,000 On Worms Last weekend, WWE presented its first ever WarGames match at Survivor Series, with a men’s and women’s edition taking place on the same show. During an interview with Kevin Owens on After The Bell, WWE broadcaster Corey Graves revealed that WWE was already discussing how to improve WarGames. The weekly pre-Monday Night Raw meeting focused on how great the matches were, but also on how to improve them. There is no word on any changes that might be made or when the match will be held again. WarGames was a big deal. Check out what we saw..

Joey Janela Rips AEW Dark, Calls It “Stale A**”

He isn’t a fan. AEW has only been around for a few years now but they have already had a number of stars who have shown up, stuck around for a good while, and then left. Many of them have good things to say about their time in the company, but now one former AEW star does not have the best things to say about one major aspect about AEW’s weekly schedule. Former AEW star Joey Janela took to Twitter this week to praise the Rey Fenix vs. AR Fox match from the most recent edition of AEW Dark. In addition, Janela criticized the format of the show, which is mostly focused on one sided squash matches. Janela said that stale matches meant nothing in 20222 and described the show as stale. He also said that he would not want to waste time watching a show like Dark as a fan. Janela wrestled from AEW from 2019-2022. This is what dark should be, all around competitive action packed sprints, and maybe a one longer type storyline based match weekly. What that show does is nothing for anyone anymore..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Making Plans For Special Milestone Show

It’s a special day. Some of the most important moments in the history of wrestling have taken place on television. Most modern wrestling promotions are built around television, allowing millions of fans to see what has been going on. Watching those shows has become a weekly tradition for years and now the biggest wrestling show in history is setting up for a major milestone. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE has set plans in motion for the 30th anniversary of Monday Night Raw in January, though there is no word on what those plans might be. When Vince McMahon was still in charge of WWE, there was a possibility of the show taking place at the Manhattan Center in New York City but it is not clear if that plan is still an option. Monday Night Raw debuted on January 11, 1993. I’m told plans are in motion for the 30th Anniversary of RAW show coming up in January. Prior to the new leadership taking over, having the show from The Manhattan Center again in NYC was on the tab..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Cancels Upcoming Premium Live Event, Not Rescheduling

Clear it off the calendar. WWE runs a lot of events throughout the year, with the majority being weekly television shows. In addition, the company runs about one premium live event a month, many of which have some sort of theme. Some of these have a long history but others are one off ideas that do not have a chance to go anywhere. It seems that there will be another on that list. According to Brandon Thurston’s Patreon account, WWE has canceled the January 1, 2023 Day One event at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and it will not be rescheduled. As of now, there are no premium live events scheduled between Survivor Series in November and Royal Rumble in January. There is no word on why the show was canceled, though scheduling against football could be an issue. An event is currently still listed on the State Farm Arena’s website, though the event is listed as TBA. Opinion: This is a move that makes sense, as WWE would have trouble continuing these events on every January 1. I..

Hurricane Ian Causes Several Changes To AEW Dynamite And Rampage

That’s a valid reason. Wrestling shows take a lot of preparation and the higher you go in the wrestling industry, the more effort they require. That is certainly true of weekly national television shows, and sometimes there are factors that impact the show that are beyond anyone’s control. That was the case this week as several names missed a television taping due to a serious situation. According to Fightful Select, several wrestlers missed this week’s AEW Dynamite and Rampage taping due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, which has been ravaging Florida. Two of the names who were unable to make the show were Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe, with several others likely not being present. Earlier this week, AEW President Tony Khan excused any wrestler who lived in the hurricane’s path from being at the show. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you do not see happen very often and what matters most is that all of the wrestlers and their families are safe. You never want to see somethin..

Out Of Their Hands: WarnerBrothers/Discovery Merger Could Be Bad News For AEW

The important part. AEW has been around for a few years now, with most of its focus being built around the weekly Dynamite series. The show has built a consistent audience that rarely goes below a certain level, which is quite the selling point for the company. However, there are some forces at work that could cause AEW some problems and there is nothing they can do about it. AEW’s parent company WarnerMedia and Discovery have recently merged, meaning that AEW has a new boss. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Discovery is making all kinds of budget cuts, which could be a problem when AEW’s next television deal is negotiated next year. This could mean that AEW’s new deal could be worth significantly less, or that the company could have to move elsewhere, though nothing will be known for sure until next year. Opinion: This merger is one of the biggest stories in all of entertainment at the moment and things are starting to look shaky for the future of some of these properties. Tha..

What’s In A Name: WWE Officially Renames One Of Its Weekly Shows

Change the marquee. There are all kinds of wrestling shows from WWE every week and some of them are among the most well know shows in history. Some of them are not so much though, as WWE has a lot of shows that tend to fly under the radar. That is the case with their two weekly recap shows, and now one of them is going to be getting a brand new name. WWE has officially renamed their weekly SmackDown recap show from Talking Smack to the SmackDown Lowdown. The name change officially took place this week with the first show under the new name taking place on June 18. There is no word on why the name change took place and there is nothing to suggest that the show has changed in any significant way under the new name. Opinion: That’s one of those decisions that WWE makes that doesn’t mean much of anything but is indeed a change. I still don’t know why the recap shows aren’t used a bit better. Let the wrestlers try their hand at some promos and see who can make them work. It’s one of the s..
