They’re on the way back. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start getting the names together for the show’s namesake matches. With sixty names between two matches, WWE is going to need to beef up its rosters rather quickly. That can involve bringing in some more names and that is what they announced this week. AEW Had Huge Main Event Planned For All Out

They had an idea. AEW has been in the middle of all kinds of changes in recent months and things are only starting to settle down. This has included things behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera, some of which have impacted the other. The company had to make some changes and rewrite some of its original plans. Now we know what one of those original plans was going to be. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plan for the main event of All Out would have seen CM Punk defending the World Title against Maxwell Jacob Friedman. However, the match never took place as Punk broke his foot, resulting in the creation of the Interim World Title and a unification match taking place at All Out instead. There is no word on if AEW will ever run Punk vs. Friedman again, though Punk is set to be out of action until next spring due to a tricep injury. That’s a bit of a gap. The AEW World Title scene is in a bit of a unique state at the moment, as there are currently two World Champions. Jon Moxley is the reigning Interim AEW World Champion, but there is also the official AEW World Champion, CM Punk. The Interim title was introduced when Punk was out of action, with a unification match coming up. Now we might have an idea of when that is coming. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Punk is expected to be back at either All Out in September or Full Gear in November, though it is not clear when the unification match will take place. Punk has been out of action since early June with an injury, forcing the creation of the Interim Title. There is no word on if Punk will be returning to television before either pay per view match. That’s the next big one. AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as it has brought in a variety of different changes. This includes bringing in several new wrestlers to the fold, as AEW has worked together with a variety of promotions over its existence. That will include the upcoming Forbidden Door event, and now we know what one of the biggest matches on the card will be. Over the weekend, Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Hirooki Goto at New Japan’s Dominion event. As a result, Tanahashi has advanced to Forbidden Door on June 26 where he will face Jon Moxley to crown the new AEW Interim World Champion. The title was introduced when reigning World Champion CM Punk was injured, forcing him to take time off. Punk will face the winner in a unification match at some point in the future. Can we get a warning next time? There is a lot going on at any given point in WWE and sometimes the company builds on the idea of wondering what they are going to do next. In theory, this is going to draw interest in what is going on and there can be some great drama as a result. This is a rumor so take it for what it’s worth. According to a report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is now changing its current storyline and is not planning to unify the tag team championships. Before Wrestlemania Backlash, the company was planning to have a tag team championship unification match between RK-Bro and The Usos. However, those plans were changed, and a 6-man match between RK-Bro & Drew McIntyre and The Bloodline took place. The plan is still for the two teams to have a match, perhaps as early as Hell in a Cell in June, but for each team to continue holding its tag team championship. Now it’s bigger. We are just over two weeks away from WWE’s WrestleMania Backlash pay per view but WWE has not exactly put much on the card. The show was lacking a main event, though the unification match between the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Champions did seem important. Now we know the show’s main event and it is a little bit different. This week on WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns interrupted a contract signing between RKBro and the Usos for the Tag Team Title unification match at WrestleMania Backlash. Drew McIntyre came out and helped fight off Reigns and the Usos. Later, Reigns’ special counsel Paul Heyman told Adam Pearce to make a six man tag for the WrestleMania Backlash rather than the Tag Team Title match. Other than a handful of teams, WWE rarely has tag teams last long term. You do see them though, and it turns out that one of the most popular teams today was never meant to be around more than a little while in the first place. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had no intention of keeping RKBro together in the long term. The original plan for the team called for them to be together for only a few weeks before Randy Orton turned on Riddle. Then WWE liked the two together and kept it going, with the team being together for a year now. That is a concept called the Brand Split, but the rosters have started to come together a little bit more over the last few months. It turns out that might not be a sign of things to come. WWE has announced that the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles will be unified at the upcoming WrestleMania Backlash event. This has led to some speculation that the Brand Split may be coming to an end, but that is not the case according to the Wrestling Observer newsletter. With WrestleMania out of the way, it is time to start doing things a little bit differently and WWE needs to come up with a way to make that work. Sometimes they try something a little out of the ordinary and that seems to be what they are doing with a title match that is doing something different. This week on SmackDown, a Tag Team Title unification match between Raw Tag Team Champions RKBro and SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos was officially announced. Last week, Roman Reigns ordered the Usos to bring him the Raw Tag Team Titles, prompting the Usos to go to Monday Night Raw and start the feud with RKBro.
