That could be an issue. There are a variety of different aspects that come together to present a wrestler in the right way. This includes the wrestler’s look, character and in some ways, nicknames. Finding the right moniker can be quite the trick but if it done right, it can bring about a lot of good. WWE is trying out a new nickname for one of its stars, but there might be a snag. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Another One: Update On Gable Steveson, Possible Major Delay To WWE Career In recent weeks, WWE has begin referring to Liv Morgan as “the Queen Of Extreme” as Morgan has been using more hardcore and weapons based offenses. Corey Graves also used this nickname for Lita on Monday Night Raw. During a recent edition of her “Eyes Up Here” podcast, former ECW and WWE star Francine, who was known as the “Queen Of Extreme”, took issue with WWE using the name. Francine claimed that she applied for the trademark for the name, though she is still waiting on it to come through. While Francine do..
They might want to fix that. While WWE and AEW get the most attention throughout the wrestling world, there are all kinds of wrestlers who work throughout the industry but rarely get the same amount of attention. Those wrestlers work incredibly hard to make a name for themselves without the same backing that comes with working for WWE. Now two of them have a problem with something WWE is doing. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: NXT Champion Collapses, Taken Away In Ambulance In an interview with the Hudson Valley Post, independent tag team The Now (Vik Dalishus and Hale Collins) revealed that they have sent two cease and desist letters to WWE over the company’s use of the term “the now” in regards to Austin Theory. Dalishus said that the name has been copyrighted since 2006 and people in WWE know their names. WWE has replied to one of the letters and is looking into the matter. Dalishus also said that their next step is a lawsuit for trademark infringement. The team has been around for ..
Call her a champion. Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has won her first championship as a member of the NJPW roster. She defeated Kairi for the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW’s Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California. From Bleacher Report: NJPW sold out tickets to Battle in the Valley after Kairi vs. Mercedes Moné was announced and it showed as the crowd erupted as it began. It was the loudest the audience in attendance got all night. Mone entered the arena wearing new gear as a tribute to the late Hana Kimura. You could see how much she reveres Japanese wrestling, and how much this moment means to her. The former WWE star hasn’t wrestled since May 13, 2022, but she hasn’t missed a beat. The Blueprint dominated early on with the crowd behind her, but Kairi came roaring back. It looked like the champion could retain when she locked in the Ikari, but Mone fought out and cinched in her trademark crossface. Then, Kairi hit her staggering spinning back fist to f..

Marella made his entrance after Moose used a low blow to defeat Joe Hendry and announced that he is now in the role of the Director of Authority. He then restarted the match, which led to Hendry getting the win and retaining the Digital Media Championship. You can see a clip of the return below: .@milanmiracle is HERE and is the BRAND NEW Director of Authority! @TheMooseNation and @joehendry CONTINUES! #HardToKill pic.twitter.com/CY68Ndy8hF — IMPACT (@IMPACTWRESTLING) January 14, 2023 According to a report from WrestlingNews.co, Marella, whose real name is Anthony Carelli, is able to use the “Santino Marella” name because WWE abandoned the trademark some time ago and it was registered by attorney Mike Dockins last month. He might not be done? This has been one of the busiest wrestling years in history with several game changing stories taking place. The biggest of them all has been Vince McMahon’s retirement from WWE. For the first time in nearly forty years, a new regime is in charge of WWE and that is leading to even more changes. However, we might not entirely be done with the old regime. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Double Shot: WWE Files Trademarks For Return Of Classic Show (Kind Of) According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, McMahon is considering a comeback to WWE. McMahon reportedly felt that he was given bad advice about retiring and believes that the allegations against him will blow over. McMahon retired from WWE in July during an investigation involving various payments made to women over the years over alleged sexual encounters and relationships. There is no word on when McMahon might attempt to return to WWE. WWE has had its share of comebacks. Check out some of the better ones..
Bring them back? WWE runs all kinds of special events in any given year, with the biggest being described as Premium Live Events. The company has several shows that are presented every single year, but you never know when something new is going to be added to the rotation. Now it seems that WWE might be planning to bring back a classic, but with something extra added on. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: WWE Star Changes Up Her Longtime Unique Appearance According to PWInsider.com, WWE has filed a trademark for “WWE King And Queen Of The Ring”. While not confirmed, this would suggest that WWE is bringing back the King of the Ring event. This was rumored earlier in the year but no announcement was ever officially made. Last year, WWE presented the inaugural Queen’s Crown tournament, but has never held a Queen Of The Ring tournament. There is no word on any details about WWE running either tournament, including when they might happen. WWE has done some tournaments before. Check out a bit o..
The Boss is heading overseas. According to a report from PWInsider, Sasha Banks is expected to appear at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event next month. It is unknown in what capacity she will be used, if at all, during the show. Banks has not wrestled since she and Naomi walked out on WWE before the May 16 episode of Raw. Both women were upset about the creative direction of their characters, and were subsequently stripped of the Women’s Tag Team Championships. From the report: Back in October, Varnado teased the idea of wrestling former WWE star KAIRI in STARDOM, which shares the same corporate owner as NJPW and recently did a crossover event with NJPW. Banks has been training at a number of places in recent months in the United States and Mexico. Banks recently made a number of trademark filings related to her given name as well as the terms Mercedes Mone’, Mone’ Talks, Bank Mone’, and Statement Maker under company name Soulnado, obviously preparing for her next m..
We might have a glimpse. There are all kinds of things that need to come together to make a wrestling story work in the right way and one of the most important is finding the right people. Putting someone in the wrong spot can mess up quite a bit, especially if the first impression is wrong. Earlier this week, we might have gotten a look at the newest member of a big storyline. This week’s edition of SmackDown featured another segment where the Bray Wyatt mask hijacked the show. After a speech, an image of a cowboy appeared on screen and said “Howdy”, though as did not see his face. This comes after WWE trademarked the name “Uncle Howdy”, though it is not clear if this will be a different character or another of Wyatt’s alter egos. Opinion: We are firmly in the realm of weird with anything Wyatt does or is associated with and this seems to be the same. One would likely be able to assume that this is the Uncle Howdy that WWE trademarked, though how he is connected to Wyatt remains to ..
Rampage Date: October 21, 2022 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re live this week and not taped after Dynamite for a change. We’re also back in the old stomping grounds of Jacksonville and the card happens to be stacked with three title matches in an hour. That should be enough to carry the show, though Rampage has a bad tendency to underwhelm. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles: Acclaimed vs. Varsity Athletes The Acclaimed is defending and it’s titles vs. the SCISSOR ME trademark. The Athletes tease an early scissoring and get jumped from behind, only to send the champs outside. Back in and the Acclaimed break up some more scissoring and a powerslam plants Woods. Caster gets knocked outside, where Billy Gunn chases Tony Nese around. That’s enough for a Gunn ejection, much to Sterling’s delight. We take a break and come back with Bowens getting the tag to come in and clean house. Everything breaks do..
That’s a plan. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and it can be difficult to find something for all of them to do. One of the most effective ways to present someone can be to put them together into a big stable so wrestlers can get their own television time together. Now it seems that WWE is interested in putting together a bunch of people under quite the monster leader. Last weekend at Extreme Rules, Bray Wyatt returned to the company after a year plus absence. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Wyatt is expected to lead a stable called the Wyatt 6, a term he trademarked earlier in the year. The members will be based on characters from the Firefly Fun House, with the following wrestlers portraying them: Joe Gacy as Huskus Grayson Waller as Mercy the Buzzard Alexa Bliss as Sister Abigail Erick Rowan as Ramblin Rabbit Bo Dallas as The Fiend Liv Morgan and the Dyad are also considered as possible members in the place of some of the other names. There is no ..
They have a plan for that. AEW has been around for less than four years but already have four series a week. That shows how much talent the company has around, which is one of the company’s greatest strengths. They have been able to spread their roster around so much but now they might be taking a rather large group of wrestlers could be getting its own spotlight. Last month, AEW filed a trademark for a wrestling show called All Elite Women. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the show does not seem to be a reality show. The fact that the trademark was filed suggests that the show is likely to take place in some way. It is not clear if the show will be an ongoing series or a one off event, or when it will be taking place. Opinion: This has me intrigued as the women’s division has been a bit all over the place for AEW. What matters most is that the talent is there, but now the question becomes what happens to all of those wrestlers. Putting them on their own show co..
It’s a different audience. AEW has come a very long way in less than three and a half years and a lot of that is due to the variety that you are going to see on any one of their shows. The company has figured out how to put together a bunch of different pieces to make events more enjoyable. This often means not focusing on just one thing, but that might be changing in the future. According to PWInsider.com, AEW has trademarked the term “All Elite Women” for a variety of uses, including streaming pay per view events over the internet. While not confirmed, this could mean that AEW is planning for either some kind of a show focused on women or featuring women. There is no word on what the specific show would be or when AEW might make an announcement about it. Opinion: This is an interesting one as AEW has long since focused on their women’s division. It would not surprise me to see the division get its own stand alone show, or perhaps some kind of a YouTube streaming show. Replacing eit..
Note the change. Factions have been a concept in wrestling for a very long time and they still are to this day. Putting a group of wrestlers together is something that has been done for years and there are certain aspects that you see pop up over and over. One of them is a good name, and now WWE has given another group their own, though it might not be what was expected. This week on SmackDown, the team of Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland were officially named the Brawling Brutes, including a graphic showing their new name. This is a slight change of plans, as WWE had trademarked the name Bloody Brutes earlier in the week. There is no word on why WWE made the change or if anyone else will be added to the team going forward. Opinion: This is a bit of a surprise, though I do get why a company that tries to downplay its violence may not want the term “bloody” to be regularly used. The team does deserve a name and it is nice to see them being treated as something a bit more official. Eit..
Game Over. In the opening segment of Night 2 of WrestleMania 38, Triple H made his way to the ring for an unannounced segment. It was during that time that he officially retired from in-ring competition. [This post contains video, click to play] The Game announced that he was done wrestling during an interview with Stephen A. Smith on Stephen A’s World on ESPN+. From WWE.com: In a poignant scene, WrestleMania Sunday opened with an unannounced retirement ceremony for Triple H, one of the most influential and iconic Superstars in WWE history. The WWE Hall of Famer, who announced his in-ring retirement last month on the heels of suffering a cardiac event in September, received a thunderous ovation as he walked down the WrestleMania aisle. He hugged his daughters at ringside before climbing the turnbuckles and saluting WWE fans in trademark fashion. Chants of “Triple H” and “Thank you, Hunter” rippled through AT&T Stadium as Triple H placed a pair of his boots on the canvas, a time-..
Remember him? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster, which can cause some problems for those wrestlers who fall through the cracks. It is easy to see how wrestlers can be forgotten, especially if the company doesn’t have anything for them. Sometimes WWE tries to come up with something for them, and that is the case again with a long missing star. Elias has not appeared on WWE television since August, when vignettes aired showing him burning his trademark guitar. The vignettes were never followed up on and Elias has not been mentioned since. According to Fightful Select, WWE has filmed new Elias vignettes and has been scheduled to return to Monday Night Raw, possibly under a new name. There is no word on when this will take place, though plans could always change. Opinion: I’ll put this into the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category, as Elias has not been around for a long time now. WWE has a tendency to come up with ideas and then never do anything with them, which seems ..
That’s what’s in a name. WWE has been around for a long time now and has some very long running shows. Some of these are among the most famous in wrestling, with names such as WrestleMania and Royal Rumble being near or at the top of the list. The company continues to add some more though, and now they are doing just that with a show a lot of people will probably never see. Ticketmaster.com is currently advertising the May 1 live event in Fairfax, Virginia as Sunday Stunner, which is a name the company trademarked earlier this month. This is likely to be the name of several Sunday night live events going forward. The change comes just after WWE began promoting some of its Saturday shows as Saturday Night’s Main Event, though neither change has been announced on WWE television. Opinion: Sure why not. This is one of those changes that likely won’t mean anything significant and is little more than a branding, but it does at least sound like something interesting. I could go for having s..
