They had a plan for that. We are coming up on WrestleMania 39 but there is one more major stop before we get out to Los Angeles. That would be Elimination Chamber, which is going to need quite the lineup of its own. WWE has already started setting things up for the show, and it now seems that they had planned to get the ball rolling on one of the bigger matches even sooner than expected. This week on Monday Night Raw, Lita made a surprise return to help Becky Lynch defeat Bayley, who had Damage Ctrl assisting her. Soon after, a report came out saying that this was to set up a six woman tag at Elimination Chamber, also involving Trish Stratus. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Lita helping Lynch was the original plan for the previous week at Raw XXX, when the Lynch vs. Bayley cage match was canceled due to timing issues. There is no word on if Lita will be at next week’s Monday Night Raw. Lita being back is a big deal. Check out her return plus some of her better work: [This post..
It might be a bit. We are closing in on the end of the year and in WWE, that means it is time to start the Road To WrestleMania. Next year, the biggest event of the year will take place near Hollywood, California and that means WWE is going to want to bring out even more top names than usual. It just turns out that one of them might not be available due to other commitments. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Awkward Confession: Sasha Banks Revealed Childhood Crush On Current SmackDown Star According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, John Cena may not be available for next year’s WrestleMania 39 due to a film shoot. Cena is set to be in Australia during February and March, filming a comedy called Ricky Stanicky. While Cena could still make WrestleMania on April 1 and 2, he would not likely be around for television to build any potential match. Cena is currently scheduled for the December 30 SmackDown in Tampa, Florida Cena does have a WrestleMania history. Check out what he has done at the ..
It’s another field. Wrestlers are very talented performers in that they are able to go to a ring or grab a microphone and convince fans to watch something that they are doing. That is more difficult than it seems but it can be very effective when it is done right. It also isn’t the only talent that wrestlers have though, and now one prominent name is getting to showcase another one. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Perfect Timing: AEW’s Saraya Undergoes Ironic Surgery AEW’s Thunder Rosa has released a video on her Instagram showing her recording her first single in a studio. Rosa says that the song will be released at some point in early 2023 and that she would be releasing a video of her recording the song on her Patreon. She has also been working with a writer and a singing coach for the song. Rosa has been injured since August and there is no word on when she will be returning to the ring. She seems interested. Check out Rosa in the studio and in the ring: [This post contains video, click..
End of the line? Wrestlers are a unique breed when it comes to athletics. While they are all athletes in one way or another, many of them top caliber, many of them do not walk away from competition like others are able to do. This is partially due to being able to get back in the ring for one more match, making it hard to finish up. Now one legend is ready to finish things up for good though. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Perfect Timing: AEW’s Saraya Undergoes Ironic Surgery Dustin Rhodes began wrestling back in 1988 and has wrestled for a variety of promotions all over the world, from WCW to WWE to Impact Wrestling to AEW and various other stops in between. According to Premiere Streaming Network, Rhodes announced at this weekend’s Blizzard Brawl tapings that 2023 will be his final year wrestling. Rhodes, 53, did not say when in the year he planned on retiring or any specific plans for the year. .@dustinrhodes has announced at the @BlizzardBrawl tapings that 2023 will be his last year wre..
Now that’s irony. Wrestlers have a tough time with their in-ring careers as they can get rather banged up from one match after another. Those things can lead to a variety of health issues which can shorten the wrestlers’ careers. At the same time though, there are other medical issues that can come up which have nothing to do with what happens in the ring. Those situations can be quite problematic as well, and now an AEW star is dealing with such an issue. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: Current AEW Champion Working Through Painful Injury AEW’s Saraya has revealed that she had to have her wisdom teeth removed, which took place right around the same time as she was about to wrestle Britt Baker, a real life dentist. Saraya also confirmed that Baker did not perform the surgery, but she did send Baker a video when she was coming out of anesthesia, blaming her for the issues. There is no word on how long Saraya will be missing from AEW TV. Her video was also uploaded to Twitter. Landed from..
They had another idea. Wrestling is quite the unique form of entertainment as while it is based around the in-ring action, there are several other aspects that can be focused on as well. There might be a mixture of action, drama and even romance along with various comedic factors. That was almost the case in a recent segment but a rewrite took care of that possibility. The final segment of last week’s Monday Night Raw featured Bobby Lashley vs. Theory in a pose down. According to Fightful Select, R-Truth was originally pitched to be part of the segment and several props were even brought to the venue for such an addition. However, R-Truth was never included or mentioned during the segment. There is no word on why WWE changed their minds. Opinion: This is something that could have added a little bit to the match but for whatever reason, that isn’t what WWE did. There is a good chance that it was a timing issue, as there was only so much time left in the show when the pose down began. ..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania XXXVIII Night Two Date: April 3, 2022 Location: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas Attendance: 78,453 Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, Jimmy Smith America The Beautiful: Jesse James Decker We’re back for night two and that means the other half of the card gets their chance (plus one match from the original night because of timing issues). The main event is the latest biggest match ever as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have their unification match to make one World Title ..
That isn’t good timing. We are less than two weeks away from WrestleMania 38 and most of the show seems to be set. There are still some things that need to be added or tweaked, but at least the bigger parts are ready to go. That includes the main event title matches, but now one of the bigger title matches on the card might need a bit of an adjustment due to an injury. WWE.com has announced that Bianca Belair has suffered a fractured hyoid bone in her throat due to Becky Lynch’s attack this week on Monday Night Raw. As a result, Belair will be out of action for an undisclosed amount of time, though she will not need surgery. Belair is currently scheduled to challenge Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title on night one of WrestleMania 38 on Saturday April 2. Opinion: This certainly feels like a storyline and I would be stunned if Belair is not ready for WrestleMania. It is going to be one of the bigger matches this year and one of the biggest in Belair’s career. The dueling throat injuries i..
Just in time. We are less than three months away from WWE’s biggest show of the year with WrestleMania 38. That means WWE needs to have things ready for the two shows, which will include having as much of their roster ready as they can. That is the kind of thing that can be hard to pull off, but it seems that WWE is getting some good news just in time for the show. According to PWInsider.com, SmackDown’s Drew McIntyre is currently scheduled for the March 25 edition of SmackDown, the next to last edition of the show before WrestleMania 38. McIntyre has been out of action since Day One, when he was written off television by an attack by Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. This was done to allow McIntyre to heal his neck, which has been damaged for several months. There is no word on what McIntyre will be doing at WrestleMania. Opinion: It is great to have McIntyre back and they are nailing the timing here. Above all else, it is nice to see McIntyre getting his chance for a special moment in ..
It can happen at any time. There are certain dangers that are always possibilities in wrestling and one of the worst of those is an injury. You never know what is going to happen and unfortunately it can take place even when something simple takes place. That seems to be the case again this week, as a wrestler has been injured in a match that most people have yet to see. According to PWInsider.com (link contains spoilers), Jake Atlas was injured during his match with Adam Cole during this week’s edition of AEW Rampage. Atlas suffered a knee injury during the match, but was able to continue. There is currently no word on how severe the injury maybe. Atlas made his AEW debut last week and signed with the company earlier this week. Atlas is good when he is in the ring. Check out what happens when he can go: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That is some amazing timing and hopefull..
That’s bad timing. There are certain wrestlers who catch your attention for one way or another and it can be fascinating to see what they do every time. Some of these wrestlers have not gotten the most mainstream coverage and it makes things almost more interesting to keep them on the lower levels. Now one of those wrestlers has suffered some bad news and he will be missing some time. Independent star Danhausen has revealed that he has broken a bone in his leg. Danhausen tweeted out a video from the hospital, showing himself in wrestling gear with his leg braced. Fellow independent star Warhorse is holding the camera in the video and tells Danhausen that he cannot fix the injury. There is no word on where the injury took place or how long Danhausen will be out of action. It’s never good to hear about something like this. Check out the announcement, plus some better moments of Danhausen: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post..
Dynamite Date: May 28, 2021 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone We have a special Friday show this week due to the NBA Playoffs, which is some bad timing as this is also the go home show for Double Or Nothing. That means it is time for the final push towards the show, with the celebration of the Inner Circle, plus the weigh-in for Anthony Ogogo vs. Cody Rhodes. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. The arena is structured differently, with the ramp at the upper right hand corner of the ring instead of opposite the hard camera. Darby Allin vs. Cezar Bononi Allin has Sting with him and has badly banged up ribs. Bononi starts fast by sending Allin into the corner and working on the ribs, because he’s smart enough to figure out what a lot of tape means. Some hiptosses into the corner have Allin in more trouble but he comes back with a sleeper to slow Bononi down. Allin takes him into the corner for the flipping Stunner and the C..
A slight delay. There are stars in WWE and then there are THE stars in WWE. The company’s biggest names are the people that you know by sight or even by nickname and those are the people that WWE is going to push the hardest. Those wrestlers have star power that can’t be manufactured but one of those big names is not going to be around for a little longer than expected. Back in June, Charlotte took a hiatus from WWE, which really did shake things up a bit. The timing did not help things as Charlotte’s departure came only about a month after Becky Lynch went on maternity leave, meaning that the two biggest stars of the women’s division were both gone within a few weeks of each other. Neither are back yet and it might be a bit longer before we Charlotte again. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is no word on when Charlotte will be back. While Charlotte initially left to have a cosmetic procedure, she is also missing time due to work outside of WWE. Charlotte has signed with t..
Welcome back/nice to meet you? Back in 2018, Ronda Rousey took the wrestling world by storm and there was no stopping her until she headlined WrestleMania 35 in the biggest women’s wrestling match of all time. It is rare to see someone become anything like her but she has not been around in over a year and a half. That might be changing though, with a bit of a twist. Relationships are one of the most complicated aspects to a career in wrestling. A wrestler in a relationship is not going to be able to see their significant other very often and that can cause some serious strains. However, one of the exceptions is for couples who both happen to be in the wrestling business. While not yet confirmed, that might play into the chances of Rousey returning to WWE. According to Fightful Select, both Rousey and her husband Travis Browne have been training in a wrestling ring in recent weeks. Browne has never wrestled before but has been working on his selling and timing. He is also still part ..
He’s getting better. Wrestlers are in a weird place when it comes to entertainment. They are portraying characters, but for some reason there are always going to be people reminding you that it is fake. You don’t get this in other forms of acting, but wrestlers are treated differently for some reason. That doesn’t mean they can’t act, and that was on display for one notable wrestler recently. The Big Show, real name Paul Wight, really is one of the most unique wrestlers in the world. In addition to his size and physical attributes, Big Show has a great charisma and comedic timing that you don’t get from a lot of other wrestlers. That is the kind of thing could serve him elsewhere outside of the ring and it seems to have done that in a place you might not have expected to see. Big Show has been nominated for an acting award for his role in the film Marcus. The film has been nominated for several awards at the Eastern European International Film Festival, with Big Show receiving a nomi..
They don’t have much time. We are just over a week away from Summerslam, which means we are just over two weeks away from Payback. WWE has decided to run two pay per views in back to back weeks, which is going to make for some interesting timing situations. That means they are going to need to set up the card in a hurry, and that is what they are already doing. One of the bigger stories of the year so far has been that of Bayley and Sasha Banks, who have completely taken over the women’s divisions in recent months. That has included them winning all three main roster titles, which is both a blessing and a curse. While it is nice to have all of the gold, it also means having to defend the titles, which is where this is going. During this week’s SmackDown, Banks and Bayley announced that they will be defending their Women’s Tag Team Titles at Payback. There were no opponents mentioned, but the titles are defended over all three brands, including NXT. Banks and Bayley are two time champ..
The timing didn’t work. Every now and then, WWE will throw out some big idea that seems like it is going to change things in a major way. Some of these are a lot better than others but when you get something big, it could be a major event that can take the company a long way. It was the case again this week and if it seems to have been a little rushed, it is probably because it was. The big story coming out of this week’s Monday Night Raw was the introduction of Raw Underground, which focused on Shane McMahon running an underground fight club. Some other wrestlers got involved over the course of the night but a lot of things felt a bit more unscripted and serious instead of a good chunk of the rest of the show. Things still did not exactly click though and there is a reason for that. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Raw Underground was designed as a last minute idea to prevent the television ratings and audience from going even lower than they have in recent weeks. This week’s ..
Last week was one of the busiest times that WWE has seen in a good while and a lot of what went down wasn’t the best news. The big story (of many) was centered around nearly fifty names being released/furloughed from the company. That is a CRAZY amount of names to be gone in about three days, even if some of them were only taken away for a short amount of time. Some of the names are bigger than others, but there are a few that baffled me in one way or another, which is what we’re looking at today. Now first of all, a lot of these releases were probably overdue. Completely ignoring the timing, the Coronavirus aspect, WWE bragging about how much money they had to get through this situation, being named an essential business, the stock dividend being announced the next day, plus Vince McMahon being able to finance a football league, it was time to let some people go as WWE’s roster was out of control. Now if you ignore EVERYTHING about this that made WWE look like a bunch of cheap villai..
