It’s a gig. WrestleMania has evolved so much over the years that it is almost nothing like what it was when it first started. The show has gone from little more than a really souped up live event to a stadium filling event that takes place over two nights. Things have gotten so much bigger that it needs someone to keep track of them all, which is what we will have again this year. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Monster Fight: New Match Officially Set For WrestleMania 39 This week on Monday Night Raw, the Miz was announced as the host of WrestleMania 39. The announcement came via the envelope that Miz’s wife Maryse gave him last week. After making the announcement, Miz was attacked by Seth Rollins and left laying. WrestleMania has had a host for the last several years, with names such as Hulk Hogan, Alexa Bliss, Bayley and the New Day serving in the role. It is a tradition. Check out what the hosts have done over the years: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vid..
It was a busy night. Title changes are one of the most important things that you can see at a wrestling event. A new champion being crowned marks a changing of the guard, as you have someone else becoming one of the to stars in a promotion. It can mean even more if multiple titles change hands in a single night, which was the case this weekend in the span of a few hours. There were two title changes over the weekend at NXT Vengeance Day. First up, Fallon Henley and Kiana James defeated Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. The win marks the first title changes for Henley and James and also ends the record setting reign for Chance and Carter at 186 days. Later, Gallus defeated Pretty Deadly, Chase U and reigning champions the New Day to win the NXT Tag Team Titles for the first time. North American Champion Wes Lee, Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez and NXT Champion Bron Breakker all retained their titles. It was a busy night. Check out the tit..
Another one for the history books. This past Sunday at NXT Deadline, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods captured the NXT tag team championships by defeating Pretty Deadly. While this was a great moment for The New Day, this championship victory was also historic in a number of ways. As a result of their victory, Kingston broke the record for the most tag team championships in WWE history with 15. The previous record was held by Booker T, who had 14 championship reigns. Kofi Kingston has now officially broken the record for most tag-title reigns in @WWE history. A now record 15x Tag-Team champion ???@TrueKofi pic.twitter.com/o9rcDnEIpb — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) December 11, 2022 Furthermore, Kingston is the first WWE Champion to later win an NXT championship, and Woods is the first King of the Ring tournament winner to later capture an NXT title. #NXTDeadline @TrueKofi is the first former @WWE Champion to later hold a title in #WWENXT.@AustinCreedWins is the first former #WWE King o..
The more you know. An injury is one of the worst things that you can see happen to a wrestler as it can grind everything to a halt. No matter what they are doing, they can be cut off out of nowhere in the blink of an eye and unfortunately it can happen to anyone. Unfortunately that is the case with a current WWE star, whose injury is a bit different than previously thought. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Jey Uso Injured, MRI Set For Next Week Last week during a European tour, Jey Uso injured his hand during a match but the extent of the damage was not clear. This week on SmackDown, Michael Cole revealed that Uso had undergone an X-Ray and while there was broken bone, there was a chance of some ligament damage. There is nothing to suggest that Uso, who wrestled on this week’s SmackDown, will miss any ring time. He seems ok. Check out the Usos defending their Tag Team Titles against the New Day in a great match: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing t..
Down since Day One. Tonight on Smackdown, The Usos successfully defended their Undisputed Tag Team Championships against the New Day. In doing so, they ensured that they would be making WWE history. This coming Monday, November 14, will mark their 484th day as champions. This means that they will officially become the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions of all time. Jimmy and Jey Uso have held the Smackdown Tag Team Championships since July 18, 2021, when they defeated Rey and Dominik Mysterio at the Money in the Bank premium live event. They would add the Raw Tag Team Championships on May 20 of this year, when they defeated Randy Orton and Matt Riddle (RK-Bro) on an episode of Smackdown. Editor’s Opinion: This is freaking awesome and also very expected. The Bloodline has been the best storyline in professional wrestling over the last several years, and the Usos have firmly established themselves as one of the greatest tag teams of all time. Who knows where this rain could stop..
That’s a rough way to go. There are all kinds of injuries that can take place in any wrestling match and unfortunately there is little way around it. A wrestler can get hurt doing the simplest of moves and it can derail plans for a very long time to come. It can happen to anyone, including a champion, which seems to be the case again as a reigning WWE champion is having an issue. This weekend at WWE Crown Jewel, it was announced that Jey Uso believed he had broken his wrist during a live event during the week. Uso is expected to undergo an MRI on his wrist on Monday to gauge the severity of his injury. Uso and his brother Jimmy retained the WWE Tag Team Titles over the Brawling Brutes. They are set to defend the titles against the New Day next week on SmackDown. It is not clear if the injury is legitimate or part of a storyline. Opinion: Hopefully this is just a storyline issue as it would be terrible to see Jey put on the shelf for any reason, especially when the team is so close to..
One less on the calendar. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that gives them a lot of advantages over other companies. One of their major strengths is the name recognition that comes with running regular events around the country. It means something to get to see the action live, but that will not be the case for some fans. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has canceled its upcoming Sunday Stunner event on October 16 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. There was no reason given for the cancellation of the show, which would have been the first WWE event in the venue, and no makeup date announced. The event was to be a SmackDown show, featuring matches such as the New Day vs. the Usos and Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross. Opinion: This one comes a bit out of nowhere and I’m curious to know why the show was canceled. There is always the chance that it was due to low ticket sales, which would not be the most shocking in a new venue. WWE is on a bit of a roll ..
It’s a change. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, it takes something special to make you stand out. This could be based on how someone looks, how well they can speak or what kind of character they have. If you find a mixture of all of them, you might be onto something, but at some point a change is needed. That was the case again this week, with two changed at once. This week on SmackDown, the New Day dressed up as the Viking Raiders to taunt them out to the ring. The Viking Raiders did come to the ring, where Jinder Mahal and Shanky attacked them, allowing New Day to stand tall. After the attack, Shanky and New Day danced, while Mahal looked on. This comes after Mahal and Shanky have had issues over Shanky’s lack of seriousness in recent weeks. Opinion: It’s certainly a way to go, though I’m not sure how well the whole thing is going to work. Mahal is only so interesting in the first place but maybe changing him around could let him break out a little bit. He has the potentia..
Welcome back? With so many wrestlers on its roster, it can be a little difficult for WWE stars to stand out. Over time, some wrestlers are going to get stale or just need something new to make them feel like they matter again. This is easier said than done, but there are certain tricks that can make it better. That was on display again this week with a surprise twist on a return. This week on SmackDown, the Viking Raiders made their scheduled return, where they attacked the New Day from behind. This led to a beatdown of the New Day, as the Raiders turned heel in the process. Later in the show, they said that they were afraid of no one and no one was safe. The team has not wrestled on WWE television since the March 28 edition of Monday Night Raw. That’s quite the change. Check out the Raiders’ return and attack: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of move that the Raiders need and it does sort of fit them better. The team is a pair of bruisers who ca..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Hell in a Cell 2017 Date: October 8, 2017 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s time for the Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show. The main event tonight is Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens inside the show’s namesake structure as Shane fights to defend his family’s honor. Other than that we have the Usos challenging the New Day for the Tag Team Titles inside the Cell too. Let’s get to it. On the Kickoff Show, Tye Dillinger mentions to Daniel..
They aren’t done yet. Last week’s Monday Night Raw marked the end of WrestleMania Weekend, which featured some of the most important WWE events of the year. The shows included all kinds of special matches and moments, but eventually things had to come to an end. WWE was back to normal this week but three hours of Monday Night Raw just wasn’t enough. There was another match after the show went off the air and it was a big one. According to PWInsider.com, there was a dark match after this week’s Monday Night Raw went off the air. Following the show, Drew McIntyre and the New Day defeated the Bloodline in a six man tag when McIntyre pinned one of the Usos after a Claymore. Only the Usos appeared on the show itself, defeating the Street Profits in the main event. This is Reigns’ first match since WrestleMania 38. Opinion: This is the kind of a fun way that WWE can send the fans home happy, which is one of the places that they shine. It can be fun to see WWE come up with something like th..
What could have been. WrestleMania has been the biggest wrestling event of the year for the better part of forty years now and that seems likely to be the case for a long time to come. Everyone seems to be working especially hard and showcasing everything that they can do, which can include all kinds of special features. That was to be the case with someone else this year, but it did not wind up happening. One of the matches on WrestleMania 38 Night One saw Drew McIntyre defeat Happy Corbin. A photo has been posted to Instagram, showing a group of men in kilts backstage at AT&T Stadium. The caption says that the group, called the Kilted Warriors, were supposed to accompany McIntyre to the ring but the entrance was canceled. This was not the only thing canceled on the show, as a match between the New Day and Ridge Holland/Sheamus was moved to the second night due to time constraints. In the words of new WWE Hall of Famer Vader, it’s time. It is time for Wrestlemania XXXVIII and that means the card has finally (and I do mean finally) been set. We now know what to expect on each night and the card is…well it certainly exists. There are some interesting matches on both nights, though I’m not sure what to expect from the show. That can make it fun though so let’s get to it. Smackdown Tag Team Titles: Usos(c) vs. Rick Boogs/Shinsuke Nakamura Since the New Day is busy, the Usos actually need someone else to fight for once. That opens the door for Boogs and Nakamura, who at least seem like a team. How can you not be ready for a title match after doing Toyota commercials together? This should be good enough as Nakamura knows how to work well with anyone and Boogs is basically an ox with a guitar. I’ll go with new champions here, on the grounds of “well, someone has to beat the Usos.” They feel like they have held the titles forever, so let the new team get the belts off..
One more for the card. With less than a week to go before WrestleMania, it is time for WWE to give us the final push towards the biggest event of the year. That is how things should be going in theory at least, as WWE still seems to have a lot of time to fill in on the card. WWE covered some of that time this week though, as another match has been added to WrestleMania. The WrestleMania Twitter account has announced that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day will face Ridge Holland and Sheamus on WrestleMania Saturday. This is fallout from Holland injuring Big E. earlier this month on SmackDown, which was followed by a series of singles matches between the team members. This will be Holland’s WrestleMania debut match. It’s a special place. Wrestlers are tasked with keeping up their characters no matter what happens in front of the crowd. It is one of the most important part of a wrestler’s work and is only broken up on special occasions. One of the few instances of this is when a wrestler is in a situation that means something personal to them and that was the case this week at a live event. Over the weekend, WWE held a live event in Pensacola, Florida, featuring a main event of Drew McIntyre and the New Day defeating the Bloodline. Following the match, Roman Reigns, a Pensacola native, addressed the crowd, talking about how blessed he is and saying that no matter where he went, this would always be his home. Reigns said that he acknowledged the crowd instead of having them acknowledge him. He also thanked the fans for coming out to the show. It was an awesome speech. Check out what Reigns said to the crowd: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing you do not..
Welcome back. An injury is something that you rarely see coming in wrestling and that makes it all the worse. Some of them are going to take a wrestler out of action for a long time, which can leave a lot of people wiating for them to get back in the ring. That can take a good while, but now another wrestler has returned to action after a pretty long time off due to an injury. Xavier Woods returned to action this weekend at a WWE live event in Jackson, Mississippi. Woods and Kofi Kingston teamed together in a losing effort in a triple threat match against Ridge Holland/Sheamus and the Usos, who retained their SmackDown Tag Team Titles. This was Woods’ first match since the January 7 SmackDown as he has been out of action with a calf injury. The new plan. Stables have long since been an important part of the wrestling landscape, as they are such an easy concept. Having a stable allows wrestlers to be put together into a group, which makes it easier to get more people on television than before. There have been several successful stables in WWE history and now one of them seems to be coming back together. It just might not be that simple. Over the last few weeks, Big E. has returned to SmackDown and been reunited with Kofi Kingston. However, according to Fightful Select, this is not considered a New Day reunion. Vince McMahon reportedly decided he wanted Kingston and Big E. back together because he missed the magic they created, but did not want them to be called the New Day again. There is no word on if this will continued when or if Xavier Woods returns to join the team. Opinion: So let me get this straight: McMahon wants New Day but doesn’t want New Day? Am I getting that right? This is one of those things that probably..
It could have been different. We are in the middle of the holiday season and that has some impact on the wrestling world as well. With so many things going on at once, it can be more than a little difficult to keep track of what is going on. That is certainly the case for WWE as well, as there are all kinds of changes taking place. It seems that there were several on this week’s SmackDown. WWE taped a pair of SmackDowns this week, including the Christmas Eve edition. According to Fightful Select, there were several changes to the show throughout the day. The original plans for Friday’s show called for Roman Reigns to open the show with the Usos vs. the New Day in the main event slot. Instead, Reigns was moved to the final slot, with the tag team match being moved up a segment as a result. In addition, planned sitdown interview with Brock Lesnar was planned but dropped, with a women’s tag team match inserted instead. There is no word on why the changes were made. SmackDown went fairly..
They have guest stars. There are so many wrestlers on the WWE roster that the company has been able to split them into multiple groups. Both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown have stand alone rosters and you do not often get to see the two of them getting together very often. It is certainly a big different to see it happen and that will be the case this week again. WWE has announced that Raw Tag Team Champions RKBro will be appearing on this week’s edition of SmackDown. The team will be taking part in a non-title triple threat match against the New Day and the SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos. There is no word on why RKBro will be making the appearance and nothing to suggest that this will be anything more than a one off match. These teams could be awesome together. Check out all three of them in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It wouldn’t surprise me if this is a ..
