Does that make them superheroes? There are very few teams as controversial as the Young Bucks. The former AEW Tag Team Champions have dominated a lot of the tag team scene around the world for several years. Their success cannot be argued, but their style is something that has not caught on with a lot of fans. Now they have done something outside of the ring that might be a bit controversial as well. It’s certainly timely. Check out the Young Bucks’ latest exploit: [This post contains video, click to play] The Young Bucks have released a video on Instagram showing the two of them attacking the Easter Bunny. In the video, a young girl tells the team that the Easter Bunny is creepy. The Easter Bunny is shown flipping off the crowd, causing the Young Bucks to double superkick him into an inflatable. There is no word on who may have portrayed the Easter Bunny in the video. Opinion: I know he might have been creepy, but they just beat up the Easter Bunny! That is one of those things tha..
NXT LVL Up Date: April 8, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness We’re basking in that post Wrestlemania glow and while it might have dimmed out a bit by the time it gets to NXT LVL Up, it still feels a bit special. Last week seemed to tease a tag match and that could be a good thing for a future show. I’ll take a small story over no story so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Javier Bernal vs. Guru Raaj Shah: “Raaj dreams of headlining premium live events.” Bernal grabs a headlock to start before they go to a pinfall reversal sequence. Raaj starts working on the arms as the fans get behind Bernal. That’s broken up and Bernal kicks away, setting up the Codebreaker for the pin at 5:08. Result: Javier Bernal b. Guru Raaj – Codebreaker (5:08) Ivy Nile vs. Thea Hail This is Hail’s debut and she is dressed like a superhero, complete with a cape. The fans think Nile is going to kill her, starting with a lethal wristlock. Hail,..
So much for that. Tag Teams have a weird history in WWE. They have been around for a long time throughout the company’s existence, but they also have been known to be split up in a hurry. These splits can cause quite the issues at times, often leading into a feud between the former partners. That seems to be the case again, as another team has gone their separate ways. This week on Monday Night Raw, Rhea Ripley and Nikki Ash split up to officially end their team. The split came after the team had lost several matches, along with their WWE Wome’s Tag Team Titles. Ash believed that Ripley felt she was better and, after a hug between the two, attacked Ripley. After leaving the ring, Ash said that superheroes did not need friends. This got serious in a hurry. Check out how the split happened, plus the two in action on their own: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is long, long ..
It’s time for your weekly reminder that WWE isn’t doing very well at the moment. The problems have been going on so long at the moment that it can be a little difficult to keep up interest, but every now and then you see something that draws you back in. Unfortunately that seems to be a waste of time more often than not, as WWE is going to manage to screw things up one way or another. This week, we’re taking a look at one such case, and how it might be getting even worse. Back in June, Nikki Cross debuted a new character, which would eventually be dubbed Nikki Ash: Almost a Superhero. Ash would go on to win the Money in the Bank briefcase, cash it in on Charlotte, and win the Women’s Title in a nice moment. Then Charlotte won it back about a month later because Charlotte, so Ash went on to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles with Rhea Ripley and promptly did nothing with them, leading to losing the titles and a losing streak that has (at least as of when I’m writing this part) most recent..
That’s quite the honor. To say that a wrestling show is an ensemble piece is an understatement. There is so much going on during any given show that it is almost impossible to keep track of everyone at once. Sometimes it would be nice to have some wrestlers get more focus, and now that is going to be the case in a big way. It just won’t be in a wrestling ring. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Rey Mysterio has announced that he will be starring in a new animated series for Cartoon Network Latin America, beginning in 2022. The series will be called Rey Mysterio vs. La Obscuridad and will star Mysterio and a wrestling fan named Oscar as they fight a villain named Uroboros. There is no word on any other wrestlers potentially appearing on the show. Mysterio is already pretty close to a superhero. That’s what a tough guy would do. Wrestlers are superheroes in a lot of ways, in that they are out there in front people doing ridiculous and often amazing things every single week. It can be easy to get behind one of the wrestlers and cheer them to no end, but there are always going to be things that happen to them behind the scenes. That was the case with one wrestling legend, but now there is a great update. Hacksaw Jim Duggan has released a new update on Twitter, announcing that he is officially cancer free. Earlier this year, Duggan revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and had undergone surgery. The cancer was contained in the prostate and completely removed, and everything else was clear. This was Duggan’s second round of cancer, after he previously beat kidney cancer in the late 1990s. This is great to hear. Check out the announcement, plus some of Duggan’s career: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This..
Any positive is a good thing. Wrestlers are superheros come to live on television and that can make for some very special moments. You get to see some wrestlers do some amazingly special things and that is one of the greatest appeals in wrestling. At the same time though, these wrestlers have problems all their own. That was the case earlier this month, but now we have a bit of an upgrade. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE COO Triple H is in better shape after his surgery following a cardiac event due to a genetic event. While Triple H is now able to take phone calls, he is not allowed to discuss any form of business. It is not clear when Triple H will be allowed to return to work. WWE is currently undergoing significant changes and Triple H has lost power as a result. Triple H has done a lot of good things in WWE. Monday Night Raw Date: July 26, 2021 Location: T-Mobile Center, Kansas City, Missouri Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s time to find out how bad Raw can get this week, which tends to be the new low every week. Last week’s show was one of the biggest head scratchers I’ve seen in a very long time and it could be terrifying to see just how low things can get. We are less than a month away from Summerslam and it’s time to build things up. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of last week’s Women’s Title match and Nikki Ash cashing in Money in the Bank to win the title. Here is Nikki Ash to get things going. She finally gets to welcome us to Raw and talks about how she didn’t believe she could get here. Nikki has worked to get here and once she finally started believing in herself, she accomplished her goals. If she can do it, everyone can do it and we can all be almost superheroes. Cue Charlotte to talk about how last week wasn’t fair and she is getting her rem..
That’s the best they have? Wrestling names are some of the most important parts of a wrestler’s full package, as the wrong name can ruin a career in a hurry. I don’t think Hulk Hogan would have done as well if he had been named Bob Smith or Undertaker would be quite the legend if he was Smiley Montgomery. WWE has some rather interesting names, and now we might be seeing some more of them. According to HeelByNature.com, WWE has applied for trademarks for “Nikki ASH” and “Happy Corbin”. Nikki Cross debuted the ASH nickname on this week’s Monday Night Raw, announcing that it stood for “Almost A Superhero”. There is no word on how the Corbin name will be used, though King Corbin’s name was changed back to Baron Corbin after he lost his King’s Crown to Shinsuke Nakamura. What could be. Check out the people likely to use these new names in better times: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opini..
It’s a different way to go. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and it can be difficult for one of them to stand out. In a landscape where almost everyone can have a pretty good match, you need something a little more out there to get some attention. Sometimes a new character can do the trick and that was the case this week. Now we know a bit more about it. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross debuted a new superhero character, including a mask and cape. During the show, Cross spoke about wanting to feel like she was more powerful and donned the costume as a result. Cross has since discussed the idea further on Twitter, clarifying that she does not think she has superpowers, but rather that the mask and cape give her confidence. Her husband Killian Dain also mentioned the new character on Twitter, saying that the idea was Cross’ own creation. I don’t have superpowers. I can’t fly. I don’t have super strength. But putting on my mask, my cape, my gauntlets, my ar..
It’s something new. Characters are one of the most important ideas in all of wrestling. You can only get so far with someone being plain and boring so mixing it up with a different gimmick or personality can make all the difference in the world. Some of these can be rather over the top and that is not a bad idea. It seems to be the case again now, as someone is doing something rather new. During this week’s Monday Night Raw, Nikki Cross spoke about trying to overcome the odds and embracing her inner spirit. She wore a blue mask and superhero inspired costume, complete with cape, for her Money in the Bank qualifying tag match, where she and Alexa Bliss defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. There is nothing to suggest that Cross will be changing her name to go with the new character. Cross has wrestled for WWE since 2016, splitting her time between NXT and the main roster. During her time in NXT, she was a member of Sanity, where she was often unhinged in her matches and interviews. She..
Change it up? There are some very talented wrestlers in the world today but at some point they are going to get stale. Through no fault of their own, eventually a wrestler is going to become too familiar to the audience and need something new to spice things up again. The talent is there but it needs a different presentation. We may be about to see that on SmackDown. There is something special about masked wrestlers. Not only do the masks often look great, but they offer a unique aura to the person wearing them. In some cases they make the wrestlers feel like a superhero, which can be a great way to make a wrestler seem more important. This is even more true in the case of a smaller wrestler, but now things might be changing for one of them. This is certainly different. Check out what a masked wrestler might be doing: [This post contains video, click to play] SmackDown star Kalisto has posted a new video to Twitter with his mask off, though his back is to the camera. Kalisto says f..
How has this not happened yet? John Cena is one of the biggest stars in the history of WWE and professional wrestling in general. He is now starting to follow in the footsteps of fellow superstar the Rock, who has taken over Hollywood. While Cena is far from that level of mainstream stardom, he might be in line for a spot in a movie that could boost his profile in a big way. According to Variety.com, Cena is up for a yet to be determined role in the upcoming Suicide Squad 2 film. The original movie was a huge box office success, grossing nearly $750 million in 2016. Cena would be joining returning star Margot Robbie and fellow newcomer Idris Elba, whose character has not yet been announced either. The movie, with or without Cena, will be released on August 6, 2021. Should he be in it, this would be Cena’s first role in a comic book movie. Cena is a Hollywood star but he’s still popping up in WWE. Check out his hilarious cameo at WrestleMania 35: [This post contains video, click to p..
<p>Bischoff welcomes Swoggle (formerly WWE’s Hornswoggle) to the show.</p><p>Swoggle informs that he was a fan of wrestling since he was four years old. His height restrictions should have put a damper on his ambition to become a professional wrestler but it didn’t. He also had back surgery as a kid, and the doctor told him he wouldn’t be able to compete in contact sports or use a trampoline.</p><p></p><p>He didn’t listen to the doctor and continued to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. At age 17 he started getting trained by Mr. (Ken) Anderson who trained him as a wrestler, not as a midget, which Swoggle really appreciated.</p><p>His first wrestling memory is <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/go/wrestlemania" target="_blank" title="WrestleMania">WrestleMania</a></strong> 6, and he was a huge fan of The Ultimate Warrior. He says that Warrior was a superhero to him, and this inspired him to become a wrestler.</p><p>Swoggle informs that his first big break came when he was backyard wrestling one day and local recruiters arrived and offered some training and an opportunity to work in a legitimate wrestling ring. This was a huge break for him, and he jumped at the opportunity.</p>
<p>There is currently a strange heel/face dynamic in WWE. The ‘faces’ often receive boo’s from the crowd while the heels receive cheers. This is a notion that a mere 25 years ago would have been unimaginable. It has mostly become a slow inclining trend since the nWo formed.</p><p>Just look at <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/Roman-Reigns" title="Roman Reigns">Roman Reigns</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/braun-strowman" title="Braun Strowman">Braun Strowman</a></strong> as perfect examples. Reigns is the company man, the superhero, the do-good ass kicker who fights for us getting booed out of arenas. While Strowman, the monster who wants to cause havoc and inflict pain while ruining lives and bullying the roster, receives love, support and praise from fans.</p><p>Despite these blurred lines however, a well executed heel turn in WWE can be fantastic. For example, <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/seth-rollins" title="Seth Rollins">Seth Rollins</a></strong> turning on The Shield will stand the test of time for its flawless timing and execution. As well as creating excellent moments, a good heel turn can lead to a career resurgence. Look at The New Day, their heel turn gave way to one of WWE’s most entertaining stables of all time.</p><p>Simply put, heel turns can make and also define careers. With so many stars in WWE needing a kickstart for their careers, a heel turn may be the answer. With that being said, this list looks at 4 WWE stars who could benefit from a heel turn in the upcoming months.</p>
