Smackdown Date: February 3, 2023 Location: Bon Secours Wellness Arena, Greenville, South Carolina Commentators: Wade Barrett, Michael Cole We’re done with the Royal Rumble and the main event of Wrestlemania is set. That being said, there is a Sami Zayn sized road block on the Road To Wrestlemania and I’m not sure how they are going to deal with it. You can almost guarantee Zayn is getting the Elimination Chamber title shot, but dang it’s going to be a fun right on the way there. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Sami Zayn finally turning on the Bloodline with a chair shot to Roman Reigns, but Jey Uso couldn’t bring himself to help with the ensuing beatdown. The Bloodline, minus Jey Uso, and everyone but Paul Heyman ignores questions about Jey. Heyman says they cannon confirm or deny Jey’s Bloodline status at the moment. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles #1 Contenders Tournament: Imperium vs. Braun Strowman/Ricochet For a future Smackdown Tag Team Title shot. Strowman shoves..

The roster grows. WWE has a roster with enough talent to fill up three weekly television shows, but those wrestlers have to be kept moving. At some point the roster is going to get a bit stale and needs some fresh blood, which is why WWE also brings in fresh talent every so often. Now they are doing that again, this time from other sports outside of professional wrestling. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Vince McMahon Agrees To Multi-Million Dollar Settlement, Ends 30+ Year Rape Allegation Ordeal PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE has signed two new stars to NXT. First is Alexis Gray, who was a track and field star at Texas Southern University, where she earned a degree in biology. Second is Ezekiel Balogun, a 6’6 former basketball player from the University of North Florida. There is no word on when either of them will officially start training at the Performance Center. The two of them will have good training facilities. Check out the Performance Center: [This post contains video, click ..
They might need counseling. Teams and groups have a long history in wrestling as there have been people paired together for years. These pairings can go in a variety of directions, but sometimes they go south rather quickly. You never know when you are going to see a team have problems or even split up, but a successful one seems to be done following this weekend. One of the featured matches at this weekend’s AEW Full Gear 2022 saw the Acclaimed successfully defend the AEW Tag Team Titles against Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee/Swerve Strickland). During the match, Strickland wanted Lee to use a pair of pliers but Lee refused. As a result, Strickland slapped Lee in the face, resulting in Lee walking away. Strickland was left to fight on his own and was pinned shortly thereafter. The team did well while they lasted. Check out their better times: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: ..
That’s some quality villainy. For the most part, wrestlers are divided into groups of babyfaces and heels. The heels are there to make fans angry at them and to get the fans cheering for the babyfaces to give them what they deserve. That can be accomplished in a variety of ways and now we saw one of the better methods this weekend at a non-televised events. A video has been released to Twitter showing a match between Bayley and Bianca Belair at a recent WWE live event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The video includes Bayley arguing with a young fan at ringside multiple times, with the fan shouting that she wants Bayley to lose. Bayley would yell back at the fan multiple times, including once when Bayley was sitting down on the floor. Bayley went on to lose the match. This is pretty impressive. Check out Bayley vs. the fan: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That is exactly what a villain is supposed to do, as Bayley had the fan wanting to see her get beaten up. It ta..
A sign of things to come. We are getting close to the end of the year and that means we are getting close to the start of the Road To WrestleMania. Next year’s WrestleMania will take place in southern California and should be one of the biggest events in WWE history. That is next year’s event, but WWE is already thinking about the following year’s WrestleMania and took a big step towards it this weekend. On Saturday, WWE held its annual Extreme Rules pay per view in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the home of WrestleMania 40. Before the show, WWE officially unveiled the logo for WrestleMania 40. The logo is designed after the Liberty Bell and features the show’s Roman numerals, which has been missing over the last several years. WrestleMania 40 will take place at Lincoln Financial Field on April 6 and 7, 2024. Smackdown Date: August 5, 2022 Location: Bon Secours Wellness Arena, Greenville, South Carolina Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee We’re done with Summerslam and well on the way to Clash At The Castle, which should make for an energized few weeks. WWE seems to want to make this show into something special and they have the ability to do so. The main event is already set and now we get to see what else they have. Let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of Summerslam. The Bloodline arrives. Pat McAfee gives us a telestrated recap of him kicking Happy Corbin low at Summerslam. We see the impact about ten times before cutting to the back, where a bunch of people are laughing at Corbin. Ricochet laughs a lot and gets a match with Corbin tonight as a result. Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin Corbin throws him into the corner to start but Ricochet kicks him in the face, setting up the big flip dive to the floor. Back in and Ricochet’s springboard is broken up but he’s fine enough to block..
Rampage Date: July 22, 2022 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Jim Ross We’re finally finishing up the two week long Fyter Fest and hopefully there is a bit less shark enthusiasm this time around. We’ll be seeing some good stuff this week, including Christopher Daniels vs. Jay Lethal as we are only a day away from Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Hangman Page/John Silver vs. Butcher and the Blade Silver charges at both of them to start before Page can even get his vest off. That means Silver gets beaten down in the corner as the numbers game gets the better of it. Butcher, who looks to have slimmed down a bit, chops away and it’s off to Blade for the stomping. A suplex gets Silver out of trouble and it’s back to Page to clean house. The fall away slam sends Blade flying and a slingshot dive takes Butcher out. A top rope clothesline gets two on Blade but Butcher pulls Page to the floor for some whips into ..
Dynamite Date: July 20, 2022 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz It’s time for the Shark Week show, because corporate synergy is a thing. That means a barbed wire match between Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho, with the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society in shark cages. That’s quite the way to go but I’m sure we’ll get something else big tonight. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Brodie King vs. Darby Allin Sting is here with Allin. They start fast with Allin knocking him to the floor for a suicide dive. Back in and King gets staggered again but is fine enough to shrug off a high crossbody attempt. King swings him around by the pants and Allin is sent outside, followed by some stomping back inside. We take a break and come back with Allin hitting a suicide flip dive but a charge in the corner is countered into a sleeper. Allin tries to climb the rope but gets caught in the Tree of Woe for his efforts. The Cannonball only hi..
Last fall, the family went down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (I didn’t have much of a choice so spare me the “why there” questions) for a vacation. It wasn’t my thing, but at one point I did head out and find a bookstore to pass some time. The store was adjacent to a local mall where I thought they might sell playing cards (one of my other passions, with a current collection of 923 decks (27 wrestling) and counting). Inside the mall I found….very little, as the place was mostly dead. One thing I did find though was an old school arcade inside a comic book store, with a ton of arcade cabinets and a row of pinball machines, including the old WWF Royal Rumble game. Each play was a quarter each so I ran through at least five bucks and had one of the best days of the entire trip there on my own. So what does this have to do with wrestling? Heck if I know, but what does pinball have to do with Summerslam? That’s something that has been bothering me about the build to this year’s Summer..
Dynamite Date: March 30, 2022 Location: Colonial Life Arena, Columbia, South Carolina Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone We’re still on the long road to Double Or Nothing and that means there are some things that need to get ready before then. It seems that we will be seeing Adam Cole vs. Hangman Page II either on the way there or at the show itself, meaning there is a good chance we’ll see more of the build here this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. CM Punk vs. Max Caster Caster’s rap goes straight to the Will Smith reference and throws in a Hunter Biden line, plus a reference to Punk’s issues with Z-Pak’s. Anthony Bowens is here with Caster as Punk works on Caster’s taped up shoulder to start. Punk takes him down by the arm but it’s too early for the Anaconda Vice. Back up and Punk’s headlock doesn’t last long so he shoulders Caster down and grabs the armbar again. Caster gets in a shot of his own but Punk flips over the corner and runs the apron to set up a..
Monday Night Raw Date: February 21, 2022 Location: Colonial Life Arena, Columbia, South Carolina Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton With Elimination Chamber out of the way, it is time to start making the final preparations for Wrestlemania. We now even know the main event (or one of them at least) as new WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will face Universal Champion Roman Reigns, winner take all. They might want to work on finding anything else that matters somewhere in there. Let’s get to it. Long Elimination Chamber recap. Here is the new WWE Champion Brock Lesnar to get things going and the fans seem rather happy to see him. After thanking the fans, Lesnar is cut off by Paul Heyman, whose signature line is cut off almost immediately. Heyman manages to say that he represents the one true champion around here and says Lesnar might not get to Wrestlemania as champion. Lesnar still has to defend the title at Madison Square Garden on March 5 against Bobby Lashley, but if L..
We have some sad news to report this morning as Vince McMahon’s mother, Vicky Askew, has passed away at the age of 101. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in The Woodlands, TX, just outside of Houston. From her obituary: Vicki was born on July 11, 1920 in Florence, South Carolina, the only daughter of four children of Orpheus William Hanner and Victoria Kennedy Hanner. The family moved when Vicki was a young girl to Sanford and then to East Sanford, NC where she spent her childhood. Vicki was blessed with two sons, Rod and Vince, both of whom married their childhood sweethearts. Sadly, Rod passed away one year to the day before his mother. Vicki’s childhood was tough. She spoke of it in an interview for the North Shore Church in 2018: “My mother had to go to work to support me and my three brothers. She started by selling Avon. During the Great Depression, I remember drawing my foot on pasteboard and putting it in my shoe (the sole had holes and no one could afford new s..
He’ll be sticking around. We are less than two days away from the Royal Rumble and that means things are starting to get serious around WWE. The Road To WrestleMania will officially begin and WWE will be turning things up a bit. Some wrestlers are going to be in more prominent roles, including some of the bigger names in the company. Now it seems that we will be seeing one of them even more than expected. According to 411mania.com, Brock Lesnar is being advertised for the Elimination Chamber event on February 19 in Saudi Arabia, as well as multiple Monday Night Raw and SmackDown events. The television appearances begin on the February 14 Monday Night Raw and end on the March 11 SmackDown, though Lesnar is not advertised for every show. Here is when he is being advertised: * January 30: WWE Raw (Cincinnati, Ohio) * February 14: WWE RAW (Indianapolis, Indiana) * February 19: Elimination Chamber (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) * February 21: WWE RAW (Columbia, South Carolina) * February 25: WWE ..
That’s never good to hear. There are all kinds of possible injuries in wrestling and you never want to see someone put on the shelf. Some of them can take longer to overcome than others, as some do not have the easiest path to recovery. Unfortunately that can be the case with a lot of brain related injuries and that is the case with one wrestler who is still in recovery. According to Wrestlinginc.com, AEW’s Brian Pillman Jr. suffered a concussion during his tag team match with Griff Garrison against the Kings of the Black Throne this week on Dynamite. As a result, Pillman was forced to miss this weekend’s Warrior Wrestling event, with the promotion announcing Danny Bang as his replacement. There is no word on when Pillman will be cleared to return to the ring. Unfortunately, Brian Pillman Jr. is not medically cleared to compete tomorrow night in South Bend, so Chicago's hottest new rising star, the sensation of the Logan Square Auditorium…. DAVEY BANG steps up to challenge SILA..
It would be a first. Earlier this week, Monday Night Raw reached twenty nine years old, as the show made its debut on January 11, 1993. The show has been around for a very long time now and has been held in a variety of countries around the world. It is still the company’s flagship show and now there is a chance that they will be doing something else in a new area. According to Andrew Zarian on the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast, WWE may film an episode of Monday Night Raw in Saudi Arabia when the company goes to the country in February. It is not confirmed if this will take place, as WWE will be returning to Saudi Arabia for an event on February 19, though they already have a Monday Night Raw scheduled for February 21 in Columbia, South Carolina. Monday Night Raw has never been held in Saudi Arabia. This could be cool. Monday Night Raw Date: January 3, 2022 Location: Bon Secours Wellness Center, Greenville, South Carolina Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the show after Day One and since it’s WWE, Brock Lesnar has now somehow become WWE Champion. Lesnar has been added to the fatal four way after his scheduled match with Roman Reigns was canceled due to Reigns testing positive for the Coronavirus. That means it’s time for a new direction so let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Title on Saturday night. Opening sequence. We run down the card. The lights go out and a rather happy looking Paul Heyman is in the ring. As an advocate, Heyman would like to introduce us to his client: the new WWE Champion, BROCK LESNAR! Here is Lesnar, who throws some steps in the ring so he can stand up and send good wishes to Roman Reigns. Lesnar: “Now, South Carolina, acknowledge me!” He thanks Heyman for all of his efforts to make the title win possible on Satu..
Rampage Date: December 3, 2021 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Taz, Ricky Starks, Excalibur This week we get to find out what happens after Cody Rhodes lit himself on fire to try and get people to cheer for him. That could make for a slightly weakened crowd, but I’m not sure how much of a difference it is going to make. At least the card looks good this week so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. TNT Title: Sammy Guevara vs. Tony Nese Guevara is defending and goes right after Nese at the bell. Nese is sent outside and the big running flip dive takes him down again, but Guevara bangs up his own ribs in the process. Guevara gets sent into the steps but comes back with some chops against the barricade. Back in and a gutbuster plants Guevara again and Nese gets to stomp away at the bad ribs. The double springboard moonsault gets two on Guevara, setting up a spinning kick to the face for two. The logical bodyscissors goes on and we take a break with Guevara in tro..
Dynamite Date: December 1, 2021 Location: Gas South Arena, Duluth, Georgia Commentators: Hangman Page, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re two weeks away from Winter Is Coming and that could be a heck of a big night. You can probably guess some of the card from here and that means AEW has a path to take on the way to the show. Other than that, we have a street fight this week as Cody Rhodes faces Andrade El Idolo. Let’s get to it. Jim Ross isn’t here tonight so Hangman Page is filling in. In two weeks: Page vs. Bryan Danielson for the World Title. Bryan Danielson vs. Alan Angels Danielson wastes no time in starting with the kicks as Angels is in trouble early. The fans are behind Angels and Danielson throws in a Hulk Hogan hand to the ear to turn up the anger another notch. The kicks and chops in the corner make it even worse, followed by the running corner dropkick. Angels fights back but gets pulled into a cross armbreaker. That’s broken up so Angels sends him outside for a pair of d..
