Changing roles can be good sometimes. NXT Trainer and Coach Matt Bloom recently appeared on the ‘Real Monster Radio’ show, where he discussed a number of topics. One of them was the status of a former NXT superstar, now turned coach. Bloom had the following to say about Oney Lorcan: “My position now as a head coach, I oversee my coaches,” Bloom said. “I have an amazing staff. So, I gotta give props to those guys. Terry Taylor, Fit Finlay, Robbie Brookside, Norman Smiley, Steve Corino, Alexander Winkler, ‘Oney Lorcan’ Chris Girard, who just recently retired from being in the ring, Johnny Moss, and we have a few UK coaches that are on the cusp of being full-time coaches as well.” You can see the full interview below: [This post contains video, click to play] Lorcan was released from WWE in November 2021 but returned in October 2022 as a coach at the Performance Center. Editor’s Opinion: I always felt bad for Lorcan and his longtime partner, Danny Burch, because I feel like they n..
The rematch the world wanted to see. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the match between John Cena and Kevin Owens from Money in the Bank 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Even as Cena took control in the opening moments, the prize fighter’s hubris never wavered, commenting mid-match on Cena’s tough early attack: “How’d that work out for you last time?” Owens backed up his trash talk further by hitting Cena’s signature combination — a pair of shoulder blocks, side slam and 5-Knuckle Shuffle. Cena wouldn’t stay down, though. He battled through Owens’ hard-hitting punches and slam with resiliency that would have made any fan of the hometown Blue Jackets smile. When Cena hoisted Owens into position for an Attitude Adjustment, adding a “You can’t see me” taunt for good measure, it seemed academic. Then Owens powered out of the pinfall at a late two, and the Cenation leader nea..
There’s a flashback. Stables are something that have done a lot of good for wrestling over the years. Putting a group of wrestlers together under a common banner is something that has worked for a long time and it continues to do so to this day. There have been some very interesting ones over the years but now one of the lesser remembered ones has made a brief comeback. The New Brood had a reunion in a tag match at a Big Time Wrestling event on Saturday night in Prince George, Virginia. The match saw the Hardys faced Gangrel and Joey Janela, who billed themselves as the New New Brood. Gangrel and the Hardys teamed together in 1999 in the WWF against Edge and Christian, the former members of Gangrel’s Brood. Following the match, Gangrel and the Hardys posed together as part of the reunion. The New Brood has REUNITED. pic.twitter.com/5vH1ZGURN4 — MATT HARDY (@MATTHARDYBRAND) May 15, 2022 Opinion: This is one of those things that came out of nowhere and was good for a nice smile, as t..
Good advice? NXT is a rather unique wrestling promotion as it has to be its own show while also serving as WWE’s developmental territory. As a result, it needs to develop wrestlers and get them ready to go to the main roster, which can be easier said than done. One major NXT star made his main roster debut this week though and he seemed to get some unique advice. Former NXT Champion Bron Breakker made his Monday Night Raw debut on this week’s show, teaming with Tommaso Ciampa to defeat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in a tag match. Breakker appeared on the One-On-One podcast after the show and discussed his appearance. He mentioned that several wrestlers gave him advice, with the advice that stood out the most being that he needed to smile more. There is no word on when Breakker will return to Monday Night Raw. This was an interesting interview. Check out the full video: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of those things that WWE does that doesn’t make ..
He knows his stuff. There are very few people in the history of wrestling as controversial as Vince McMahon. While he is the most successful and influential names in the industry, McMahon is certainly not without his faults. There have been several instances where he makes some questionable decisions, but he still does know what he is talking about at times. That was on display with one of his biggest stars. Ronda Rousey made her WWE return at the 2022 Royal Rumble, winning the women’s edition of the show’s namesake match. Rousey has released a video on her YouTube page talking about her return, which comes after her first run with the company was not well received by fans. During her return, McMahon told her to smile more, because even if she had not forgiven the fans, they had forgiven her, and the show is ultimately about the fans. Rousey said that it was a great point, as she had forgotten that the point of the show was to entertain the fans. There is a lot here. Check out the fu..
Brock Lesnar’s win at the 2022 Royal Rumble on January 29 was not surprising to many WWE fans. After all, he is The Beast Incarnate and a heavily featured star in the company. In fact, if not for Roman Reigns, Lesnar would likely be the undisputed face of WWE. Because of this, a Brock victory on one of WWE’s biggest nights of the year is not all that shocking. But a Brock victory in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match? That’s another matter altogether. Lesnar dropped the WWE Championship to Bobby Lashley earlier in the evening, which opened the door for at least the possibility of a surprise Rumble entry. Reigns’ interference in Lesnar’s match made that surprise a reality. But was Brock’s win the right move? [This post contains video, click to play] Building The Beast Very few Superstars have captured the imagination of WWE fans like Brock Lesnar. He’s been called an anomaly, which fits him perfectly. He’s a country boy at heart, with an easy smile and an awkward disposition. He doesn’t s..
No matter how they tell the story of professional wrestling, it is always the same. Good vs. evil; babyface vs. heel. The fans cheer for their favorite hero to finally overcome the bully that stands in their way of achieving their goals. However, outside the obstacles the heels may place, they do not seem to have many problems in their life. They smile, laugh, and have a good time. Maybe they have a family and are portrayed to have it all together. While fans do enjoy these characters, the ones they have always naturally gotten behind are the ones that seem the most real. Stone Cold Steve Austin became the biggest star in professional wrestling solely due to the fact the Everyday Man could see themselves in Austin. Everyone has had horrible bosses they wish they could give it back to. Daniel Bryan (now, Bryan Danielson in AEW) was relatable because every person in some sort of fashion has felt like they have been held down and told they aren’t what companies or people are looking f..
Ring of Honor Date: November 10, 2021 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman It’s the Championship Edition of the show and that means we are in for a special main event. Bandido is going to be defending the World Title against Alex Zayne, in a title shot Zayne won back at Death Before Dishonor. Other than that, we continue down the path towards what seems to be the end of the company, though they might not have known that when the show was taped. Let’s get to it. The opening video talks about what it means to be a champion while running down the card. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay welcomes us to the show and runs down the card. Pure Wrestling Title: LSG vs. Josh Woods LSG is challenging and we hear him explain just how important all of this is for him. We get the Big Match Intros and even the referee gets a name graphic. LSG grabs a rollup to start and Woods smiles at him a bit. A headlock slows Woods down and a crucifix gives..
Back to basics? Sometimes you will see a wrestler change almost everything about themselves while still being the same person underneath it all. That can make for some jarring changes, as you never know what you might be seeing along the way. Some of these have been far more successful than others, but now someone might be reverting to their old self. During this week’s Monday Night Raw, Alexa Bliss sent out a tweet which included a video of her evil self transitioning into her old self. The old version smiles at the end of the clip. While not confirmed, this could suggest that Bliss will be back in her old character when she returns. Bliss has been out of action since Extreme Rules due to undergoing sinus surgery and it is unknown when she will be back. Bliss is quite the star. Check out her video, plus both of her more well known characters: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: T..
Nice to meet you? There have been a lot of changes made to NXT in recent months and there is a chance that they will continue moving forward. That can make for some interesting situations in NXT, as you never know who you might see show up next. That was the case this week, as a newcomer made his awaited debut, albeit under a bit of a different moniker. This week on NXT, Joe Gacy defeated Ikemen Jiro in a singles match. After the match was over, Gacy started to walk back to the entrance but stopped to stare at at a man in the stands, who stared back at him. Gacy smiled before walking backstage. The man was named Harland and is better known as Parker Boudreaux, a former college football player who signed with NXT earlier this year. Boudreaux made a cameo appearance as a security guard in August but this was his first time receiving a focus. ? #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/mlN3QA7wr2 — WWE NXT (@WWENXT) October 6, 2021 It was an interesting situation. I’d hope he’s happy. Vince McMahon might not be the most popular person among wrestling fans, but he is still by far the most powerful person in the wrestling world. If McMahon does not like something, very little else is going to matter for the time being. At the same time, if McMahon does approve of something, it could go a long way in a hurry. That might be the case again. In a new interview with GiveMeSport, Big E. talked about meeting with Vince McMahon just after he won the Money in the Bank briefcase earlier this month. While Big E. could not remember anything specific that McMahon said, he felt that the conversation was positive and that McMahon smiled at Big E. The conversation did not last long as Big E. had to do interviews, but nothing negative was said in their minute long talk. Big E. already has some interesting plans for his briefcase, which McMahon might need to approve. The two do have a bit of a history. Check out the match that made McMahon smile and his time with..
That’s the best they have? Wrestling names are some of the most important parts of a wrestler’s full package, as the wrong name can ruin a career in a hurry. I don’t think Hulk Hogan would have done as well if he had been named Bob Smith or Undertaker would be quite the legend if he was Smiley Montgomery. WWE has some rather interesting names, and now we might be seeing some more of them. According to HeelByNature.com, WWE has applied for trademarks for “Nikki ASH” and “Happy Corbin”. Nikki Cross debuted the ASH nickname on this week’s Monday Night Raw, announcing that it stood for “Almost A Superhero”. There is no word on how the Corbin name will be used, though King Corbin’s name was changed back to Baron Corbin after he lost his King’s Crown to Shinsuke Nakamura. What could be. Check out the people likely to use these new names in better times: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opini..
Wrestlemania Backlash Date: May 16, 2021 Location: Yuengling Center, Tampa, Florida Commentators: Adnan Virk, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, Pat McAfee, Michael Cole It’s time for the Wrestlemania fallout pay per view and this time WWE isn’t exactly being subtle with the concept. The Raw side is mainly consisting of Wrestlemania rematches with another name added in, while the Smackdown side actually feels like some fresh matches. Hopefully that mixes together for a good show. Let’s get to it. Here’s Sheamus to issue the open challenge, non-title of course. Kickoff Show: Sheamus vs. Ricochet Ricochet hammers away to start but gets taken down with a heck of a clothesline. Sheamus takes him into the corner and pounds him down, setting up the forearms to the chest. The fishhooking (dubbed the Dublin Smile) has Ricochet in even more trouble but Ricochet gets in some kicks to the chest. The springboard clothesline into the standing shooting star into the Lionsault gives Ricochet two. Sheamu..
It’s almost over. I don’t think it’s any secret that 2020 has not been the best of times for a lot of people. You can pick your reason for what has gone wrong or been the worst part of the year, but that does not mean the year has been a complete disaster. There are several parts of the wrestling year that have been better than others, even if they might have flown a bit underneath the radar. That’s what we’re going to look at today: some of the good things that have taken place in 2020. Some of these might have a bit more significance than others, but at the same time they are going to be the kind of things that might make you smile just a little bit. Hopefully we get more of these for next year, but for now it is time to look back and see what kind of good things happened this year. These are in no particular order and is not meant to be exhaustive. AEW/Impact Wrestling Crossover Ok so yes Impact Wrestling has been the joke of the wrestling world for well over ten years now and no..
Miro’s arrival in AEW, while surprising, was not wholly unexpected. The former Rusev made his debut on the September 9 edition of Dynamite, where he was revealed as the best man for Kip Sabian’s upcoming wedding with Penelope Ford. Since his departure from WWE, Miro’s pro wrestling fate was the topic of heavy speculation among fans, many of whom predicted his imminent signing with Tony Khan’s company. No one knows how long Miro will be aligned with Sabian, but it’s clear that The Bulgarian Brute is likely headed for big things in his new environment. Miro’s presence in an AEW ring was very surreal for many who watched Dynamite. But he was in great shape and he had a big smile on his face. This was not the same man who last stood in a WWE ring and was following the law of the land in Vince McMahon’s company. For many Superstars, their creative direction is stifled and they typically have very little input. That situation inevitably leads to frustration and ultimately, to separation...
WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was recently interviewed by Mike Greenberg on ESPN’s “Get Up,” where he discussed the upcoming WrestleMania 36 show and the company’s decision to host it, despite the Coronavirus pandemic. You can see the entire interview below: Flair said that he is proud of WWE for taping the show and for going on it. He said that it is important that people have live events to look forward to because there is nothing but replays on sports networks right now. He said that it will give people a reason to laugh and smile about during this difficult time. With regards to there being no audience for the shows, The Nature Boy said that Kevin Dunn and Vince McMahon will make it seem like there are people there. This will be done through video packages and production techniques, and the athletes will perform as if there was a stadium full of people. He also said that on Monday morning, the sports shows will be talking about WrestleMania and not Tom Brady, The Buccaneers or Tu..
The good news that we need. Sometimes people need to smile and there are certain things that are going to cause that almost every time. While it might not be everyone’s favorite, one of the most accurate ways to go is through some nice sweets, which can come in many forms. As you might expect, WWE knows how to get in on something like this and that is what they have done again. If you remember the late 1980s, or perhaps the Summer of Punk in WWE, the company has a history with a certain kind of dessert. That would of course be WWE ice cream bars, which have become something so popular that they even have their own merchandise. It’s something that fans have been wanting to see back for a long time and after a lot of mentions, the day has finally come. According to Good Humor via Twitter, the WWE Superstar Cookie Sandwiches have been released nationwide and are available via delivery in select markets via the Ice Cream Shop. There are currently four Superstars available, including Rand..
You have to smile a bit. There are a lot of things going on in the world at the moment and a lot of them aren’t positive. With so many negative things associated with the Coronavirus around the world, it can help a lot to get your mind off things every now and then. WWE can offer that a lot of the time as watching wrestling is so out of the norm that it can give you a little peace of mind, even if wrestling isn’t involved. No matter how many matches they wrestle or what they do, at the end of the day, a lot of wrestlers have some interesting personalities. They can get in front of a camera and command the screen, which makes them all the more entertaining to watch. Every now and then you can see them getting to do something outside of the ring though and it can often be even more fun. Several WWE stars, including the Bella Twins, Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Ronda Rousey, Roman Reigns and others were guests on the newest edition of Carpool Karaoke. The show, which airs on Apple TV, fea..
The ghost of storylines yet to come? Last week on Monday Night Raw, Vince McMahon and the rest of his family changed the course of the company by way of taking the reins and deciding where things would be heading from now on. In this case, that means we’ll be seeing more of the McMahons in the near and far future. As it turns out, that included this week’s SmackDown Live, which featured quite the surprising ending. This week on SmackDown Live, McMahon met with AJ Styles, and asked who he was. The segment saw McMahon question why Styles wasn’t wrestling in the show if it was supposed to be the House That AJ Styles Built. McMahon then slapped Styles, who attacked him in response with agents breaking it up. With Styles pulled away, McMahon smiled to end the show. Well, I think you know what we’re doing now. Check out the segment right here: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This didn’t feel like a heel turn and it doesn’t need to be. Instead, this came off like McMah..
