AEW Rampage Results – September 16, 2022

Rampage Date: September 16, 2022 Location: MVP Arena, Albany, New York Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Tony Schiavone The road to normalcy continues this week but there might not be as much to get hyped about with this show. The problem is that with no tournament matches for this week, there is only so much that can be done to bring in the interest. Rampage has a tendency to not feel the most important but maybe they can pull it off. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Matt Hardy vs. Darby Allin They shake hands to start and it’s Allin grabbing a headlock takeover. Hardy fights up so Allin crucifix bombs him for two. With Hardy on the floor, Allin’s dive is cut off but he drives Hardy into the steps to knock him silly again. Allin goes Jeff/PCO by trying a Swanton, which only hits apron because people like him never learn. We take a break and come back with Hardy hitting a Side Effect out of the corner for two. The Twist of Fate is countered and a suplex is as well..

KB’s Review: Character Writing 101

A wrestling promotion can present an angle in all kinds of ways. It could be serious, funny, silly, dramatic or several other points in between. Oftentimes you will see some combination of two (or sometimes more) styles mixed together and it can make for some great moments. However, that is not the easiest thing to make work and it can be very easy to get it wrong. That seems to be the case again now, as WWE has gotten even further into the habits of getting stories more than a bit wrong. One of the most important things about presenting a story is to know your characters. While you can get a character to do just about anything, there has to be a path to make it work. This might be something from their past or present or even future, but you can’t just throw something out there and hope that it makes sense. You need a path to make something logical and that is where WWE has been slipping as of late. NXT has something special on its hands, as two time NXT Champion Bron Breakker is as ..

Switch: AEW Star Undergoing Gimmick Change

She is moving on. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler to the audience and some of them can be a little bit over the top. Wrestlers have to find the right balance between absurd and believable to make things work, which can be rather tricky. Sometimes adjustments need to be made to find the right balance, which seems to be the case again with a current star. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW may be changing Kris Statlander’s gimmick. Statlander’s longstanding character had been that of an alien from the Andromeda galaxy but she has recently been acting more like a normal person, with the alien characteristics being dropped. The gimmick is not said to have been entirely dropped yet but Statlander is moving in a new direction. Opinion: This is probably the right way to go, as the alien gimmick was only going to get Statlander so far. It is a pretty silly and over the top character but the talent is certainly there. Statlander is good at what she does and it makes ..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – December 7, 2021

NXT Date: December 7, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett We’re done with WarGames and all signs would seem to point to Bron Breakker getting the rematch for the NXT Title at New Year’s Evil. That should be the big title change, but there is still some time to fill on the way there. We’ll start with this week’s show, which will include the reveal of MSK’s Shaman. Let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of WarGames. Von Wagner vs. Kyle O’Reilly In a cage after Wagner attacked him after their loss at WarGames. O’Reilly jumps him in the aisle to start and Wagner is in trouble in the corner early on. A running boot in the corner rocks Wagner again and O’Reilly starts working on the arm. Some forearms to the back of the head keep Wagner down and some running knees put him down again. Back up and Wagner knocks him silly with a single shot to take over. Wagner stomps away against the cage but O’Reilly grabs the leg for a knee..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – November 3, 2021

Dynamite Date: November 3, 2021 Location: Cable Dahmer Arena, Independence, Missouri Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We are less than three weeks away from Full Gear and things have been shaken up a bit. Jon Moxley, who was in the semifinals of the #1 contenders tournament, has decided to go to rehab for alcohol issues, which leaves a big hole in the brackets. We should get a replacement tonight though and that could be interesting. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Kenny Omega vs. Alan Angels Non-title and commentary brings up Moxley’s issues during Omega’s entrance. Angels goes right after him to start but Omega knocks him back, including some chops. A few shots knock Omega into the corner but he’s back with the Kitaro Crusher. Omega hits a running face shots to take Angels down (think a bulldog but from the front) and the brainbuster onto the knee knocks Angels silly. The V Trigger misses though and Angels grabs a rollup for two. There’s a suicide dive to send..

MMA Fighter Slams Her AEW Appearance, Calls Wrestling “So Stupid”

I guess she isn’t a fan. Wrestling is in a weird place when it comes to athletics. While it is certainly an athletic field, it is not exactly the same as traditional sports. The endings to wrestling matches are determined in advance and that is something that a lot of people are not going to like. It seems to be the case with a more mainstream athlete who appeared on a recent wrestling show. One of the bigger stories taking place in AEW at the moment is the rivalry between Dan Lambert and the American Top Team mixed martial arts fighters and the Inner Circle. Several mixed martial artists have appeared in the angle, including Kayla Harrison. However, in an interview with Jim Varsallone, Harrison has said that she will not be back, saying that fighters who keep going back to wrestling are “yahoos” and described wrestling as “so stupid” and “so silly”. Harrison made one appearance in the angle and did not return. That’s a rather hard no. Check out how the angle has gone so far: [This ..

205 Live Results – September 24, 2021

205 Live Date: September 24, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph The new (again) 205 Live continues as they have been running three matches a week, plus often dropping the weight limit. Throw in some women’s matches and this show is actually looking like something different for a change. I’m not saying that is going to lead to a good show, but at least it isn’t all the same. Let’s get to it. Xyon Quin vs. Oney Lorcan Lorcan takes him into the corner to start as the fans seem to be behind Quin. Some chops and a ram into the corner don’t do much to Quin, who is right back with a spinning elbow. Lorcan kicks the leg out though and starts hammering away and another shot to the knee gets two. The chinlock doesn’t last long as Quin powers up and strikes Lorcan into the corner, setting up a running shoulder to the ribs. A ripcord forearm knocks Lorcan silly for the pin at 3:17. Result: Xyon Quin b. Oney Lorcan – Ripcord forea..

AEW Dark Results – September 8, 2020

If you would like to see this show in full, you can watch it right here for free: Dark Date: September 8, 2020 Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida Commentators: Excalibur, Taz For reasons I don’t quite fathom, this is the third episode of Dark in eight days because we needed a special one before All Out and then the regular shows as well. At least tonight’s show along with Friday’s were a little shorter than usual, but we’ve got squashification waiting for us so let’s get to it. Taz and Excalibur give us the rapid fire intro. Sean Legacy vs. Will Hobbs Hobbs starts fast with a running shoulder before lifting Legacy up by the wrist for some arm cranking. Legacy’s crossbody is knocked out of the air with ease and a release gordbuster knocks him silly again. An Oklahoma Stampede finishes Legacy at 2:59. Result: Will Hobbs b. Sean Legacy – Oklahoma Stampede (2:59) Tony Donati vs. Brian Cage Non-title. Cage hits a release German suplex in the first five seconds and then do..

Rumor: Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas Facing Major Problems On SmackDown Live

It took a long time for Andrade “Cien” Almas to find his footing in NXT. His stint as the smiling babyface didn’t work at all. His initial heel turn didn’t change his status either, but Zelina Vega and a mean streak turned him from a huge flop into the NXT Champion. After WrestleMania 34, Almas was moved to SmackDown Live. Thus far, he’s just been showcased in squash matches to give the WWE Universe a taste of what he can do. His future remains unclear and many fans believe he’s going to face some major problems. Related: Seth Rollins Talks Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas On WWE’s Main Roster According to RingSideNews, Brad Shepard speculated that Almas will struggle to reach a certain level because of his height. It seems silly to make that statement considering his success in NXT and performs like Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and others haven’t struggled despite their size. However, it’s easy to make such a claim with Almas unproven on the main roster thus far. It’s true that mainstream wrestl..

WWE Battleground Results – 23 July 2017

Welcome to WWE Battleground 2017!

The Punjabi Prison makes a (hopefully) triumphant return after a decade in a match that sees Randy Orton get one more shot at regaining the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal. It’s no secret that the Punjabi Prison hasn’t had a good track record in WWE, particularly because it’s a weird match with silly rules, but tonight’s definitely has the chance to be the best ever! We’re hoping a decade will allow Randy and Jinder to learn from the mistakes of those before and build a pretty decent match. If nothing else the Prison is always a spectacle.

Also on tonight’s show, John Cena makes his triumphant return to the ring to face Rusev in a Flag Match. This match doesn’t feel all that important because we’ve seen this feud before and because flag matches are generally silly. Regardless, John Cena wrestling is always worth checking out because he’s become an attraction in WWE and here’s hoping his current run will last a while. Rusev’s return has been a very long time coming and fans were hoping that he would be given a strong run upon return and maybe that will be the case if he can eek a win tonight!

There’s a small truth in the women’s division that few people want to acknowledge: Naomi hasn’t had a real contender since winning the title at WrestleMania. Other than fighting Lana on a weekly basis, Naomi’s title run has been marred by a lack of competition. This has happened because the SmackDown ladies have been embroiled in a multi-woman feud for months and months. Tonight the company aims to end this long-running battle royal with a five-way match with the winner becoming the number one contender to Naomi. I don’t think there is a clear winner for this match because the two strongest challengers, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, are both babyfaces. The idea of Lana winning is painfully possible.

Also on tonight’s card, Shinsuke Nakamura takes on Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn looks for revenge against Mike Kanellis, The New Day get another shot at The Uso’s Tag Team Championships, and Kevin Owens will look to regain his US Championship from AJ Styles! Tonight’s Battleground is a pretty stacked card with some crazy match stipulations and it all starts with Tye Dillinger Vs. Aiden English on the Kick-Off Show at 7pm EST. And don’t forget, you can watch Talking Smack after Battleground! Download the free Ringside News app for all your wrasslin’ news, and the Ringside Talk app to join your fellow marks in conversing about the show. Enjoy!

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – GLOW Analysis, Hardys vs. Sheamus & Cesaro Just Won’t End, RAW Needs More Joe & Lesnar, More!

Russo opens today’s show speaking about Netflix’s GLOW. He says that he watched the first few episodes and he was absolutely hooked. He thinks the show is very well written and acted, and it’s no surprise to him that the show is seeing success. He always said that a well written wrestling drama/comedy would draw better than an actual wrestling show.

He informs that back in 2000, he was hired by FOX to write a wrestling show and he penned a show called ‘Rope Opera’. It was more of a drama but FOX wanted a comedy, therefore they passed on his show.

Russo says that his disagreements with many wrestling journalists are simply that, disagreements. He does not hate any of them, and when he picks apart their silly opinions it’s just entertainment for him. However, he does not like being labeled a racist or a homophobe which a couple of them have done, and that made things personal for him.

He says that he is neither a racist or a homophobe, and if anyone has been discriminated his whole life it’s been him. He’s an Italian from New York, and people just think he acts a certain way due to his upbringing. He says that people continue to make up silly things about him and everyone believes the nonsense.

Bischoff on Wrestling Recap – Russo’s Restraining Order, RAW & Smackdown on WWE Network, Should Joe Defeat Lesnar? More!

Bischoff is joined on today’s show by his co-host Nick Hausman.

Bischoff comments on the news that Vince Russo filed a restraining order against Jim Cornette recently. He simply calls this action by Russo ‘bizarre’, and he’s getting sick and tired of talking about Russo. At first it was fun to poke fun at Russo because he’s so easy to get fired up, but at this point it’s just silly.

Hausman mentions that initially fans thought all these verbal jabs between Russo, Cornette, Bischoff and Prichard were a work, which would ultimately result in some live debate tour featuring all men. It’s obvious now that was never the case. Bischoff mentions that we was offered a pretty good pay day recently to do an in-ring segment with Russo for an indie promotion in P.E.I.,Canada. Even though the money was good, he turned it down because Russo is just too weird to be around.

Bischoff thought the Samoa Joe/Brock Lesnar segment from RAW this past week created some mystique, and that’s something that has been sorely missing from WWE’s product lately. Joe is a great character, and luckily WWE has made a commitment to Joe’s character because now Joe comes off as a believable threat to Lesnar. Bischoff thinks Joe will give Lesnar some of the best matches he has had in recent memory.

Dinner with the King Recap – LaVar Ball on RAW, Potential Match with Cody Rhodes, WWE Title Feud with The Miz, More!

Lawler is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jerry Lawler.

Lawler begins today’s show speaking about the MizTV segment from RAW this week, which featured LaVar Ball and his two sons. He says that this was certainly a silly segment, but it undoubtably accomplished its goal of getting people to talk about Monday Night RAW.

Lawler says that ‘wrestling purists’ who had a major issue with this segment need to chill out and settle down. WWE tries to be topical and if they have an opportunity to bring someone on RAW who has been in the public eye, they’ll do it every single time.

Moore mentions that Cody Rhodes dropped Lawler’s name on his conference call earlier this week. Rhodes was asked who he’d like to wrestle moving forward and he said Kenny Omega and Jerry Lawler. Lawler says he’d absolutely accept the invitation to face Rhodes one on one, and he anticipates that could happen in the very near future.

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Ranallo Returns, Snow vs. Meltzer, Ellsworth’s Heat Leads to Rise in Smackdown Viewership, More!

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane, Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno), and Konnan.

Russo opens today’s show by discussing the rise in viewership for Smackdown Live this past week. The blue brand’s viewership increased by 500,000 last week and he believes that was a direct result of the booking from Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV, specifically the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Konnan agrees and although he thinks the finish could have been done better, it accomplished its goal of drawing attention to the brand. Russo points out that when you tell stories and leave viewers wondering, they will tune into the next show to see what happens.

Gilbertti says that the fan backlash over that finish was silly to begin with. He says the problem with the wrestling industry right now is that there are too few experts, and the actual experts are criticized and ridiculed by people who consider themselves experts simply because they’ve watched a lot of wrestling.

Jeff Jarrett Says Impact Owns The Broken Universe

While speaking to White:List, Jeff Jarrett made the following remarks when asked about the on-going legal battle between The Hardy Boyz and Impact Wrestling over the ownership of the Broken Gimmick:

“I always take the high road because there is legal squabbles or potential legal squabbles but I have said this to a couple of outlets, and I say this with very broad strokes – I am from Nashville so I am around music which is intellectual property and I have been in the business 30 years. Intellectual property laws are very simple, there are two sides to it; there are publishers and the writers, then there are the performers as well.”

“Jeff Hardy has been one of my best friends for 20 years, you can look on my social media and their social media, and we take family vacations together but business is business,” Jarrett continued. “So when it relates to IP it’s real simple, there is a publisher who owns the property, there is a writer who gets credit and can monetize it, then there is the performers. There is no question that Broken Matt and Brother Nero’s performances were off the charts good. But when it comes to ownership to me it’s almost a silly squabble, it’s never been in question. Impact are the owners.”

You can check out the full interview here.

Bischoff on Wrestling Recap w/ Joe Koff – ROH Talk, Money in the Bank Thoughts, McGregor vs. Mayweather, More!

Bischoff mentions that he predicted months ago that Mayweather vs. McGregor was going to happen, because there was too much money to be made on both sides for it not to happen. He says that while Mayweather might be the favourite, McGregor is not your typical boxer. This might lead to Mcgregor putting Mayweather in some uncomfortable positions in the boxing ring.

Bischoff says that he can’t even compare this bout to CM Punk’s debut UFC outing against Mickey Gall. He says that McGregor has a much better chance to beat Mayweather than Punk had to beat Gall. At least McGregor is a fighter, where Cm Punk is not.

Bischoff informs that at one point he had an opportunity to purchase the UFC for $2 Million. This was ’98-’99, and the UFC brand was in the toilet. He took the call and listened, but he had no interest in the company at that time. The Fertitta brothers and Dana White would soon come into the picture and turn the UFC into a massive organization.

Speaking about the controversy surrounding the finish of the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, Bischoff thinks all the fan backlash is silly. He says that this is a storyline, and if you’re trying to make some kind of social/political statement from this, you’re going too far.
