Netflix Reportedly Debuting Wrestling Series, Could Open Door For Major Streaming Deal

Add it to the list. The rise of the internet and streaming services have changed the way wrestling works. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them. This includes even smaller territories, but now one of them might be leading to a much bigger broadcasting deal down the road. According to Fightful Select, a previously rumored deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling would include a special behind the scenes show. The deal also includes the rights of first refusal for Ohio Valley Wrestling’s televisions rights. Should Netflix get into the live streaming business, they could be a potential bidder for the rights to WWE or AEW programming. WWE’s deals with USA and FOX and AEW’s deal with WarnerMedia all expire in 2024. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be a game changer for the industry. I don’t know if Ohio Valley Wrestling is going to set the streaming world on fire,..

WOO! Ric Flair Has A New Business Venture And It’s A Unique One

It’s a gig. Wrestlers have a rather unique career path, but at the end of the day, everyone has to move on from the ring at some point. That is easier said than done for a lot of people though as some of them do not have another place to go. That can be the case for some top stars, some of whom try more than a few odd directions. That seems to be the case again. As part of the festivities around his final match, Ric Flair and Kitchen Data Systems have announced the opening of a virtual restaurant called WOOOOO! Wings. The restaurant will open for deliveries in Nashville, Tennessee, the location of Flair’s last match, on July 28 before launching nationwide the next day. Flair’s final match will take place on July 31 against an opponent to be named. Here is the press release: Ric Flair Launches Wooooo! WWE Announces WrestleMania Virtual Restaurant (With Punny Names)

That’s a different way to go. We are less than two weeks away from WrestleMania 38 and as usual, WWE will be taking over the show’s home city. It makes things feel that much bigger and it can be interesting to see what they are doing on any given year. That is the case again, though this time WWE is going to be trying something different for WrestleMania in Dallas/Fort Worth. WWE has announced that it is partnering with Nextbite to bring a WrestleMania themed virtual restaurant to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The restaurant, called WWE Smackadillas, will be available via delivery services such as DoorDash, UberEats and GrubHub, and will feature a series of quesadillas with wrestling themed names, such as Powerbomb Pizza. The menu will be available through April 11. Opinion: This is the kind of gimmicky thing that could be good for some fun around WrestleMania season. You don’t get this kind of idea throughout the rest of the year and I could go for something like this just for the sak..

He has finally spoken. John Morrison has taken to Instagram to make his first public comments since being recently released by WWE 10 days ago. Below is a transcript of the video that he released, with a transcription courtesy of Fightful: “Aquaholics, JoMosapiens, Johntourage, Slamtonians, I want you all to know how grateful I am for the support you gave me during this past run with WWE. I also want you to know that I did, in fact, receive a phone call from John Laurinaitis, during which he told me that my services as a talent were no longer required by WWE. I didn’t even get a, ‘Best of luck in your future endeavors.’ I mean, if you’re gonna let me go at least hit your catchphrase, right?” He continued, “I don’t know if it’s something that draws people to professional wrestling or something that happens to people when they’ve been in the business for a long enough time. But my mind always races towards ways to pop the c..

WWE Lets Several More Names Go From The Company

So long? WWE is a huge wrestling company and have all kinds of people on their roster. While you are going to know all kinds of stars from the television show, there are several more people who wrestle behind the scenes and will almost never get the recognition that they deserve. Now though, it seems that even more of them are going to be gone, which has been the case quite often recently. Multiple WWE backstage employees have left the company in recent days. According to PWInsider.com, Stan Stanski, the Senior Vice President of Creative Services, has left WWE after almost fifteen years in the company. His departure has led several people to believe that almost no one is safe. In addition, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, WWE made several office cuts this week, with the total being in the single digits. It is not clear if Stanski is in this group or if more releases are coming. Fightful has confirmed that WWE had several office cuts this week. We're told in the single di..

That would be a big get. The wrestling world has been shaken up in a big way over the course of the last few months as WWE has released several wrestlers from their contracts. In addition to leaving all kinds of holes in the WWE roster, it has also flooded the market with wrestlers who could be signed elsewhere. Now another company is interested in a pretty big name. Dave Meltzer appeared on a recent edition of the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast and mentioned that Impact Wrestling was making a strong push to get Bray Wyatt into the company. However, Wyatt is not expected to sign with Impact Wrestling, as he is more likely to be heading to AEW. WWE Seemingly Cracking Down On Superstars’ Outside Ventures

That’s a big shot. Wrestlers are given quite a few responsibilities, as they have to go in the ring and wrestle but also market themselves at the same time. One of the best ways to do this is through selling their merchandising. Almost every wrestler has their own t-shirt with some of them having several to choose from. It is a lucrative side business for WWE, which is why they seem to have made a big move. Last week, WWE issued a new rule saying that its wrestlers were no longer allowed to work with third parties to make money. This seemed to include services like Cameo and Twitch, which allowed wrestlers to interact with fans in a much more direct manner. However, wrestlers try to make money in other ways, one of which WWE seems to be taking away from them in a hurry. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Mustafa Ali’s Pro Wrestling Tees page has been taken down. A link on his Twitter page has been replaced with a link to his WWE Shop page. This seems to have been done in the last few day..

Update On Streaming Services Acquiring WWE Pay Per Views

Not so fast? Things are a bit crazy in the wrestling world at the moment and that might be the case for a long time to come. There are still going to be wrestling shows in one form or another, but that does not mean they are going to be what you are used to seeing. At the same time, things may be changing in how you can watch pay per views, but it might not be for a little while longer. In February, a story made the rounds about WWE attempting to sell their pay per view rights to a streaming platform. While no platform was ever named, various services such as Peacock and ESPN+ were mentioned. There were various questions still to be answered about such a move, but the move was sounding likely. It has not happened yet, but now we have an update. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, negotiations are still ongoing between WWE and the various possible partners. It is not clear when any deal could be made or which platform could be making a deal with WWE. The deal will not incl..

Real Reason Why WWE Won’t Air Raw and SmackDown Live On WWE Network

Despite the fact that television is less reliant on cable networks, WWE continues to rely on those networks to air Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. A lot of people don’t understand why when the company has the WWE Network available to air its content. Not only that, but WWE officials are willing to make all kinds of changes to the product and even change the work schedule for the roster to make the FOX deal work. However, there’s a logical reason why the company continues to rely on cable networks to air Raw and SmackDown Live. Related: Real Reason Why WWE Will Cancel Brand Split Before SmackDown Moves to FOX According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants to go with FOX over other streaming services is because traditional television is still better for creating new fans and keeping old ones. Apparently, nearly half of SmackDown Live’s audience is over the age of fifty. There’s concern that demographic would lose touch if WWE programming was streamed. Another reason i..
