Full Gear 2022 Date: November 19, 2022 Location: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone It’s time for another AEW pay per view and that should be a good thing a the company certainly has the reputation for putting on great ones. The main events here are MJF challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title and Chris Jericho defending the Ring Of Honor World Title in a four way match. Let’s get to it. Zero Hour: Best Friends/Rocky Romero/??? vs. Factory The Best Friends are missing a partner to start, though they had advertised a very evil mysterious partner. Chuck shoulders Solo down to start and it’s off to Trent. A knee from the apron cuts Trent off but he’s fine enough to drop Johnson. Everything breaks down and Romero hits the Forever Clotheslines on Johnson in the corner. Marshall gets punched by a variety of people and Cassidy rather slowly joins in. Cassidy takes so long setting up the big punch that Marshall falls down. The ..
WOOOOOOOO! Earlier today, Ric Flair made an appearance at the NFL’s Tennessee Titans training camp as they are preparing to begin the NFL season. You can see the video of the appearance below, in which dismisses the team after the end of their practice: .@RicFlairNatrBoy breaks down the @Titans after practice. “Woooooo!” pic.twitter.com/JtmdRKlQnd — Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) July 28, 2022 Flair is in Tennessee in preparation for Starrcast V, which takes place on July 31. The event is being billed as his “last match” and will see him team with Andrade El Idolo to take on the team of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. Other matches on the card include: Jonathan Gresham and Nick Wayne vs. Alan Angels and Konosuke Takeshita The Bunkhouse Battle Royal Kerry and Rocky Morton vs. Brian Pillman Jr. and Brock Anderson The Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) Rey Fenix & Taurus vs. Laredo Kid and Bandido Josh Alexander vs. Jacob F..
Rampage Date: April 22, 2022 Location: Petersen Events Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ricky Starks, Taz, Excalibur We’re back on Friday this week as AEW has been trying to ramp this show up a bit more in recent weeks. That means more star power, and this week it means a title match as Jade Cargill is defending the TBS Title against Marina Shafir. We also have a pretty big showdown between Adam Cole and Tomohiro Ishii. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Owen Hart Foundation Qualifying Match: Adam Cole vs. Tomohiro Ishii We go right to the ring (with Rocky Romero and Orange Cassidy at ringside) with Cole striking away but getting dropped with a chop. They head outside with Ishii hitting the post and getting driven into the barricade. Back in and Cole grabs the chinlock but seems to be favoring his arm. Some forearms don’t do much on Ishii, who knocks Cole into the corner with a single shot. Back up and Cole charges into a powerslam but slips out of a powerslam. The fi..
That’s downright inspiring. An injury is one of the worst things that you can see in wrestling as you never know when someone is going to be put on the shelf for a long time. Someone could be taken out in the blink of an eye and have their career completely changed. That was the case earlier this month at WrestleMania, but it seems that there might be some good hope. On the first night of WrestleMania 38, Rick Boogs injured his knee during a tag team match, suffering a torn quadricep patella. Boogs underwent surgery later in the week, but has already posted a video on Instagram showing him walking on crutches, set to There’s No Easy Way Out from Rocky IV. The expected recovery time for the injury is 4-6 months, though there is no word on when Boogs is expected back in the ring. That is a strong man. Check out Boogs’ progress: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: What kind of a person is able to get back on his foot less than two weeks after such major surgery? That is..
They don’t seem happy. There are a lot of championships in the wrestling world but few have the history of the WWE Title. The championship has been around for about sixty years now and some of the biggest names in the history of wrestling have held it. Being champion can still mean a lot, but there is something lost when a title reign does not go so well. That seems to have been the case as of late, but some wrestlers do not seem to blame the former champ. At WWE Day One, Brock Lesnar won a fatal five way match to win the WWE Title, ending Big E.’s reign without pinning him. According to Fightful Select, there were some backstage in WWE who felt that Big E. was booked inconsistently as champion. There were some who who went “above and beyond” in an attempt to make Big E.’s television segments as logical as possible. Big E. took part in a #1 contenders match on this week’s Monday Night Raw, which was won by Bobby Lashley. Big E. did have a rocky time as champion. Check out what he did..
That could have gone better. AEW has come a very long way in its short history and a lot of that is due to company President Tony Khan. Fans have been waiting a very long time for a huge wrestling fan with serious money to run their own promotion and now Khan is finally here to do just that. There are going to be some rocky points eventually though and that seems to be the case again. Former AEW star Big Swole discussed her time in the company during an episode of her Swole World podcast. Swole said that she left AEW at the end of November because her inner peace was being disturbed. Her heart was no longer in AEW and she felt that the company needed some more structure. This included wanting more time for women’s wrestling, saying that there was not enough television time to go around. Many wrestlers were getting short matches on Dark, which was not enough for some of them. She also mentioned that some wrestlers were not comfortable with writing their own material but there was no o..
Rampage Date: December 17, 2021 Location: Curtis Culwell Center, Garland, Texas Commentators: Excalibur, Ricky Starks, Taz It’s a very stacked show, as we have three matches with a total of twenty people involved. This week features an eight man tag, a ten man tag and a submission match, which is quite the use of an hour. This show can go in more than a few ways and hopefully they go in a good one this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Best Friends/Rocky Romero vs. Superkliq/Bobby Fish Chuck hits a quick standing Sliced Bread for two on Matt to start before it’s quickly off to Fish vs. Romero. Fish gets taken into the corner and Cassidy gets to come in for his slow clotheslines. Cole comes in for the Cassidy showdown but hands it off to Nick without getting physical. Cassidy walks the ropes but stops to put his hand in his pocket and jumps down without doing anything. Nick gets armdragged and hiptossed despite Cassidy’s hands being in his pockets, meaning it’s time for the f..
Sure why not. There are a lot of characters in the wrestling world and some of them get more attention than others. While the majority are wrestlers that you see on a regular basis, every now and then you see someone who is not around very often but gains a following of their own. That is the case with a non-wrestler at the moment and now is seems she is getting ready for something else. Last week on AEW Dynamite, Trent Beretta’s mom Sue made her return, driving her trademark minivan. Sue has now released a video on Twitter, showing her lifting weights in the woods to the tune of Gonna Fly Now of Rocky fame. The Young Bucks have responded to the tweet, promising to end Sue’s career in the blink of an eye. Sue has made a few appearances, always with her minivan. This is pretty awesome. Check out Sue’s training, plus her AEW appearances: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] We’ll end your car..
NXT UK Date: December 9, 2021 Location: BT Sports Studios, London, England Commentators: Andy Shepherd, Nigel McGuinness So it turns out that one of the side effects of being sick for a few weeks is that you forget to do a show every now and then. Therefore it’s time to get caught up on NXT UK, starting with a Tag Team Title shot as Moustache Mountain challenging Pretty Deadly. That alone could make this into a big deal so let’s get to it. We open with a look at Moustache Mountain’s rocky path to the title shot, but now they’re ready to fight. Opening sequence. Blair Davenport vs. Emilia McKenzie They fight over wrist control to start until McKenzie snaps off a neckbreaker for two. Davenport takes her down out of the corner though and kicks McKenzie in the back to put her in trouble of her own. A corner clothesline sets up the chinlock, allowing Davenport to crank away a bit. That’s broken up in a hurry so McKenzie can slug away, setting up a spear for two. Back up and Davenport ge..
Welcome back. There are a lot of wrestlers on the AEW roster and several of them have quite the fan base. Some of them pop up more often than not and that can make for some rather fun moments. It can be even better if someone who has been gone for a long time is getting to make a special return. That was the case this week and it was a heck of a surprise. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a tag team match between the Young Bucks and Chuck Taylor/Rocky Romero. After the match was over, the Bucks and Adam Cole continued attacking Taylor and Romero. Eventually a van drove into the arena and the returning Trent Beretta came in for the save. Beretta has been out of action since April after neck surgery. There is no word on when he will be returning to the ring. It was a cool moment. Check out the return, plus Trent back in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This ..
Dynamite Date: November 10, 2021 Location: Indianapolis Farmers Coliseum, Indianapolis, Indiana Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s the go home show for Full Gear and that means things might actually be interesting around here. AEW knows how to stick the landing on their way to a pay per view and there is still some stuff that they need to cover. Odds are they’ll hit a lot of those points this week so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Bryan Danielson vs. Rocky Romero Orange Cassidy is here with Romero. They go technical to start and the fans are behind Danielson as he grabs a headlock. The threat of an armbar sends Danielson over to the ropes so Romero elbows him in the face. Danielson flips over Romero in the corner but misses the running clothesline. Instead, Romero sends him outside, where Cassidy gives Danielson the hands in the pockets. The delay lets Romero score with a suicide dive but Danielson is back with the kicks and chops in the corner. A kick to th..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? 19th Anniversary Show Date: March 26, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman, Rocky Romero This is the Ring of Honor Wrestlemania season show and I get to continue my tradition of taking forever to get to the company’s pay per views. Things are still getting back to normal after the pandemic, though Rush is still the World Champion and defending the title against Jay Lethal. Let’s get to it. Commentary kicks us off with some bad news: Dragon Lee is off the ..
Ring of Honor Date: May 26, 2021 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Last week’s show felt a bit more unique with a nice mixture of stuff so hopefully they can keep it up here. I’m never sure what to expect from this show, but they have been surprising me enough lately. The match quality has been better as well so maybe they can keep that up too. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay is back, thanking everyone for her support and promising to have another match. We get the card run down as well and we’re ready to go. Matt Taven has been attacked and his ankle is hurt again. The Tag Team Title match tonight might be a little bit in trouble. Fred Yehi vs. Rocky Romero Pure Rules and the World Famous CB is on commentary. During the entrances, Yehi wonders if he is pure or anti-pure, while Rocky is ready for Yehi. They go slow to start with some grappling on their feet, followed by a bit more on the mat. Yehi takes hi..
Keep it growing? There are some great stables in wrestling these days and those things can do a lot of good for the sport in general. If nothing else it is nice to see a bunch of wrestlers getting out there and having some time to showcase themselves, which can easily be done as part of a team. It helps when the teams are able to grow and build off of each other, and now one of the more successful teams might be doing even better. Over roughly the last year, the Hurt Business has turned into one of the most dominant stables in recent memory. While the team got off to a rocky start, they are currently in possession of the Raw Tag Team Titles as well as the WWE Title. That is not bad for a group of people who were hardly doing anything before the team started. Now that things are doing so well, they might even be expanding, but in a bit of a surprising way. During a new interview with Complex, WWE Champion Bobby Lashley was asked what the Hurt Business wants. Lashley said that the team ..
Things aren’t looking great. Stables are an interesting way to go in wrestling as there are great at giving a lot of people screen time at once. Sometimes you are going to have wrestlers who cannot get somewhere on their own so putting them together makes sense. That was the case in theory with a recent Monday Night Raw stable, but things are already falling apart. Debuting back in August, Retribution has had quite the rocky history. The team never felt like it had the most logical or clear direction and the members did not exactly receive the strongest pushes. Adding Mustafa Ali as the leader helped somewhat, but did not solve all of the problems. Those problems still abound to this day and now we might be seeing them overwhelm the team. This week on Monday Night Raw, Ali vented his frustrations with the team after another loss. The following day, other members of the team complained as well, with some of the complaints directed at Ali himself. Reckoning asked how much longer they w..
It’s easy to parody. As seriously as some fans take it, wrestling is something that can easily be mocked. It is a bunch of people doing a bunch of completely insane things a lot of the time but when you are inside the wrestling bubble, it works out rather well. However, if you change things up a little bit and take a look from outside the bubble, you can have a lot of laughs. That is what some wrestlers are hoping to do. Back in July, the Good Brothers (Doc Gallows/Karl Anderson) made their Impact Wrestling debuts as a big featured attraction at Slammiversary. The team was one of the biggest prizes after so many wrestlers were released from WWE back in April. As a result, Impact Wrestling suddenly had some big names on their hands with a lot of entertainment potential. Some of that potential will be on display, albeit with nothing taking place in the ring. The Good Brothers, along with Rocky Romero and NZO (formerly Enzo Amore) are working on a new series called The Gimmicks, an anim..
She taught us how to say goodbye. Earlier this year, Renee Young left WWE after 8 years with the company; her final event was to be a part of the pre-show of the this year’s edition of SummerSlam. But why did she decide to leave the company? Young answered this question and more when she recently sat down with Jason Agnew and Mark Andrada of the Sunday Night Main Event podcast. Below are some highlights from the interview: On leaving WWE: “I’ve been there for eight years and I kinda did everything I could possibly do. I felt like I was bouncing around and continually trying to carve this path out for myself and I feel like I hit my ceiling,” admitted Renee. “My strength is being a TV host and as I’ve realized more and more that after doing commentary for a year plus, that was really rocky for me. I didn’t enjoy doing it and then not really having a solid role on SmackDown when I was listed as being a Special Contributor, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Then that never actually tur..
Jason Hehir responds to the complaints. The announcement of the 'Andre The Giant' documentary was one that drew up quite the anticipation and wrestling fans past and present were eager to see the film. It aired for the first time on television this past Tuesday on HBO. In the film WWE Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan was heavily featured which is expected due to Hogan and Andre's careers being intertwined. But, there were a number of complaints from viewers about Hulk Hogan's career in the WWF being covered in detail when the film is based around Andre The Giant. The director of the film Jason Hehir stated while on Bill Simmons' podcast that there were scenes that did not make the cut that would have shifted the attention of the film from Andre's career to Hogan's. He then went on to explain why a portion of the documentary focused in on Hulk Hogan. “Vince Sr. banished Hogan from WWF for filming Rocky. He came back and went to the Minnesota territory, and ..
This Sunday, NJPW ‘Strong Style Evolved’ will take place from the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. WIth a fantastic card and a good time-slot, this has all the makings of an instant classic. If you’re unfamiliar with NJPW, but ‘Strong Style Evolved’ sounds similar, it may be because we recently reported that Rey Mysterio was supposed to compete against Jushin Thunder Liger on the card. However, this is no longer the case due to his injury. Here is the card for the NJPW show: Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi vs. The Young Bucks Jay White (c) vs. Hangman Page (IWGP US Championship) Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Will Ospreay Hiroshi Tanahashi, KUSHIDA, Dragon Lee & Rysuke Taguchi vs. SANADA, Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi Cody [Rhodes] & Toru Yano vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer Gedo & Hirooki Goto vs. Juice Robinson & David Finlay Roppongi 3K & Rocky Romero vs. Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, & Scor..
