Summerslam 2022 Date: July 30, 2022 Location: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee Commentators: Michael Cole, Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s time for one of the biggest shows of the year and that means we are in another stadium. The show is going to be interesting for a few reasons, including the fact that it is the first Summerslam ever not under Vince McMahon’s watch. That means we might be seeing something new this time around so let’s get to it. The opening video features a country song about Nashville and how it’s a crazy town. Yesterday at WWE’s tryouts as a part of SummerSlam weekend, NBA star Dwight Howard made an appearance and cut a promo, showing off his skills on the microphone. Maybe they should fix that. We are less than two weeks away from Summerslam and most of the card is already set. There are a lot of matches that need to go well for the card to be a success and that potential is certainly there. What matters now is executing the plan that WWE has set up, but it seems that someone rather important might not be pleased with what they are doing. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, a WWE source said that the company does not really like the Summerslam card. There is no word on any changes that WWE might make to Summerslam or if they are going to try to adjust what is already on the card. At the moment, the show has eight matches announced. That might slow things down. Later this month, Ric Flair will wrestle his final match at an event appropriately called Ric Flair’s Last Match. The announcement of the match earlier this year brought up a variety of questions, including if Flair’s health would allow him to wrestle such a match. Now we know that things are starting to go badly for Flair, who is already a bit banged up. During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Flair revealed that he has suffered plantar fasciitis in his left foot which is causing him to have difficulty training. However, the match is still scheduled to take place as scheduled, with Flair saying that he would deaden the bottom of his foot if he had to in order to make the match happen. The show’s main events are mostly set but there are still some other matches that need to be set. That is easier said than done, but WWE managed to boost the card up in a big way this week. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured two grudge matches being added to the Summerslam card. First up, Seth Rollins vs. Riddle was officially confirmed for Summerslam. This match had been set up by the two of them attacking each other over the last few weeks. Later, Logan Paul appeared on MizTV, where Miz accepted Paul’s challenge for a Summerslam match. Well, he is a legend. There have been all kinds of wrestlers to come through WWE over the years and some of them have made quite the impact. It takes someone special to be remembered among the best of all time though, which is where the WWE Hall Of Fame comes into play. While there are some names who might feel out of place there, you know a legend when you see one. That was the case this week, though this is a bit of a strange pick. The main event of this week’s SmackDown saw Angelo Dawkins defeat Jimmy Uso. The ending was a bit controversial though as Uso’s shoulder was up as the referee counted three. It’s something else to do. Back in March, Big E. suffered a broken neck during a botched spot in a match on WWE SmackDown. Big E. has since spent months recovering and likely has several more months before he is close to being ready to returning to the ring, assuming he ever does. While he is still recovering, WWE has something else for him to do for the company. Big E. was interviewed by ESPN and revealed that he will be helping scout talent evaluations at the upcoming tryout camps in Nashville, Tennessee over Summerslam weekend. This will include working with Triple H, who will be helping to run the tryout.
