Hang it up. There are all kinds of titles under the WWE umbrella and holding one of them can make all the difference in the world. A title reign can change the way a wrestler’s career goes and losing a title can mark quite the fork in the road. There are different ways to go after the loss, but occasionally someone loses a title without losing a match, which is what has happened again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Pick Your Side: Wrestling Legend Offers Controversial Take On Bloodline vs. Elite The main event of last week’s NXT saw Roxanne Perez defeat Meiko Satomura to retain the NXT Women’s Title. Following the match, Perez collapsed and was taken away from the arena in an ambulance. WWE executive Shawn Michaels has announced that as a result of the incident, there will be a series of qualifying matches tonight, with the winners advancing to a ladder match to crown a new champion at Stand & Deliver on April 1. The title has not been officially vacated. As of Friday Morning Roxanne Perez..
WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther was recently interviewed by the Dallas Morning News where he discussed a number of topics. Among them were the rumors of WWE’s upcoming sale, his relationship with Stephanie McMahon, thoughts on the Royal Rumble, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On the refuted reports on social media that WWE was being sold to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and his reaction to the news… Gunther: “I mean, rumors are rumors. And at the end of the day, I’m not the CEO. I’m a wrestler. So, I focus on what I do in the ring and leave the business to the people that do business.” Also on the business side, Stephanie McMahon just left the company, what was your relationship with her? Gunther: “To be fair, I only had very brief interactions with her. She’s always been very nice and very lovely. And yeah, I’m happy for her that she’s going to be able now to take time off and enjoy time with her family. And yeah, I think you should be hap..
It’s official. 2022 was one of the busiest wrestling years in recent history, with all kinds of changes taking place over the course of the year. That made for some very interesting moments as fans tried to figure out what was going on and where things were heading next. Now we have a major step forward, as well as what what seems to be the conclusion, of one of the stories. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Back In A Bit: Another AEW Star Confirms Injury, Promises To Return Soon Back in May 2022, Sasha Banks and Naomi both walked out on WWE, vacating the Women’s Tag Teak Titles at the same time. While there were negotiations for both to return to WWE, neither ever appeared again. According to Sean Ross Sapp, Banks is now available for wrestling bookings, meaning she is officially a free agent. Neither Banks nor Naomi have wrestled or appeared on a wrestling show since walking out on WWE, though Banks is expected to be at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom event later this week. Good morning. They might be on to something. We are less than a week away from WWE Survivor Series, which will feature a pair of WarGames matches. There will be a men’s and women’s edition of the match, with the former having a completely set lineup. The women’s match still has a single spot to be filled and it is not clear who will take the slot. However, some fans certainly have a theory. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Surprise Name Completes Men’s WarGames Match On SmackDown As of Monday morning, the lineup for the women’s WarGames match features Damage Ctrl, Rhea Ripley and Nikki Cross facing Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim and another wrestler to be named. This is the lineup featured on the graphic for the match, with a hooded figure filling in the last spot. The image shows blue hair sticking out of the hood, leading to fan speculation that Sasha Banks will be returning for WarGames. This is not confirmed and is only a fan theory at the moment. Banks has been away from WWE since Ma..
Last August, Edge openly admitted that his wrestling days were numbered after he made his return to WWE back in 2020. A part-time schedule and smart booking has allowed the WWE Hall of Famer to continue wrestling for the past three years in select feuds, but even he would be the first tell you that he’s wrestling on borrowed time. During a recent podcast episode of the Leafs Morning Take, Edge discussed a number of topics, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the fact that the Montreal Screwjob was his first WWE PPV he attended as a talent and an update on the “clock ticking” on The Rated R Superstar’s wrestling career. Here’s the full appearance from Edge. Around the 8:50 mark is when he begins addressing the “closing window.” Edge announced his retirement plans back in August. Edge mentioned that he would be interested to officially end his career in Toronto next August. He’s talked about getting to choose his ending this time, but he’s an older man now. Recovery time is likely a l..
Earlier this week, it was reported by F4WOnline.com that Kevin Owens tweaked his knee during a WWE live event in Madison, Wisconsin over the weekend. The belief was that the injury was an MCL sprain,. However, Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Kevin Owens will be part of the Survivor Series WarGames match. CageSideSeats reported this morning that Owens is rehabbing his knee at the WWE Performance Center and was consulted by WWE doctors on Monday. The report also details that the former WWE Universal Champion is still traveling with WWE and his status for tonight’s SmackDown and other shows is unknown. Related: Kevin Owens Injured At WWE Live Event PWInsider is also claiming that Kevin Owens is scheduled for SmackDown for tonight and next week before Survivor Series. With the physical demands of a WarGames match, which he’s undoubtedly familiar, it’s unlikely that WWE officials will have him wrestling on the show. He’ll most likely be doing promo segments and maybe a scuffle leading to ..
Good for them! Wrestlers have some very busy schedules and that does not leave them with a lot of free time to do other things. With all of the traveling and wrestling in various places, it can make things more than a little complicated. This includes romance, but there are ways to make it work. Two wrestling stars have managed to make it work in a rather important way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Update On Bandido’s AEW Deal, What Led Him To Sign Former WWE and current Impact Wrestling stars Deonna Purrazzo and Steve Maclin were married this week. Appear In Peace. At this morning’s WWE panel discussion at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, The Undertaker made a surprise appearance to join the group that was already on stage. You can see a clip of the appearance below: THE UNDERTAKER IS AT COMIC-CON! #WWE #SDCC pic.twitter.com/F7w9FRvQ2s — Jim Velasco @ SDCC ?????? (@TheJimmyV) July 21, 2022 According to a report from Ringside News, The Undertaker made a surprise appearance after a 45-minute session in room 6A of the convention center, presented by Mattel. Many fans mistook the Deadman’s entrance song for the reveal of a retro mid-’90s Monday Night Raw Undertaker figure and were caught off guard when the WWE Hall of Famer appeared out of nowhere. He then continued to assist and introduce the remainder of the Mattel WWE collection, much to the pleasure of the WWE Universe fans in attendance and the WWE Superstars on stage. Other stars that were on stage included Cody Rhodes and Tomasso Ciampa. Editor’s Opinion: I love stuff like..
Maybe they should fix that. We are less than two weeks away from Summerslam and most of the card is already set. There are a lot of matches that need to go well for the card to be a success and that potential is certainly there. What matters now is executing the plan that WWE has set up, but it seems that someone rather important might not be pleased with what they are doing. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, a WWE source said that the company does not really like the Summerslam card. There is no word on any changes that WWE might make to Summerslam or if they are going to try to adjust what is already on the card. At the moment, the show has eight matches announced. Summerslam will take place on Saturday July 30 in Nashville, Tennessee. In the most WWE of ways, I had a source tell me this morning “they really don’t like the SummerSlam card” “They” being the people who put it together. Um, what?! — WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) July 19, 2022 Opinion: Where do you start..
Not so fast. WWE has been around for a very long time and the company’s history can be broken up into various sections. Some of these are a lot more well defined than others, but there are some that are among the most popular and successful times the company has ever had. This week, a story broke suggesting that we might be moving a bit back towards one of those eras, but that may have been jumping the gun. On Thursday, Andrew Zarian reported that a USA Network memo announced that Monday Night Raw would be rated TV-14 again starting on July 18. However, Zarian has since updated the story, saying that while the memo was correct, it was sent out early, meaning that the date of the TV-14 rating is currently up in the air. Fightful Select is reporting that Zarian’s update is accurate. There is no word on what kind of content a TV-14 show would contain. There was a memo within USA Network that went out this morning regarding WWE Raw changing to TV-14 on July 18th.Apparently that was sent ..
It was one of those days. WWE has a lot of pieces that come together to make any show work and some of them can go a bit better than others. At the same time, there are some events that come together better than others for one reason or another. It can be difficult to figure out what is going wrong, but in this case we might know what happened backstage at a major WWE event. According to PWInsider.com, things were “a little more chaotic” backstage at this weekend’s WWE Money In The Bank event. This included a lack of a production meeting the morning of the show and matches being worked out later than usual. There is no word on what might have caused the issue or if it caused any significant changes to how the show was presented. Opinion: At this point, is it any surprise when something is going wrong backstage at a WWE event? It seems that there is always something off or something messed up in one way or another. Maybe this was a bit worse than usual, but the problem seems to be som..
That explains it. WWE has a history of changing matches at the last minute, to the point where some of them do not even take place as advertised. This can be the case for a variety of reasons but one of the most common is that WWE just changes things on a moment’s notice. That seemed to be the case again this week, but now we might know a more logical reason. As of Monday morning, WWE was still advertising a match between Kevin Owens against either Ezekiel, Elias or Elrod. However, the match never took place with no explanation given. According to PWInsider.com, the match was not taking place due to Owens dealing with a minor injury. There is no word on what is wrong or when Owens will be back in the ring. It is not clear if the match will still be taking place down the road. Opinion: This does at least explain things as Owens’ match not taking place due to an injury certainly makes sense. I could go for more of the story in the future as it has been entertaining enough, though I don..
They changed their minds. There are a lot of issues with WWE at the moment and one of them is their inability to present the matches and segments that they advertise. WWE has a bad tendency to change their minds on something they plan to present and it can create issues. That was the case again this week, despite a last minute advertisement of the match. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens issued a challenge to either Ezekiel, Elias or their brother Elrod. Ezekiel accepted the challenge on behalf of his family and it was officially announced for this week’s show. On top of that, at 6am on Monday morning, WWE announced that the match would be a Money in the Bank qualifying match. However, the match did not take place and was not mentioned during the show, with no explanation given of why the change took place. There is no word on if the match will be rescheduled. TONIGHT: @FightOwensFight will get his chance to qualify for the Men's #MITB Ladder Match! His opponent could..
He got the point across. The Coronavirus changed the way the world worked for a long time but things are mainly back to normal. What matters most is that the health issues and worries have mostly gone away, but it is also nice to see some of our old ways of life coming back. That includes wrestling, with one wrestler now being able to tell a story about the pandemic days. Happy Corbin appeared on Mornings With Matt And Bob in Austin, Texas and talked about the upcoming Money In The Bank pay per view. Corbin also told a story about the 2020 edition, with the briefcase hanging above a ring on top of Titan Towers. During the match, Corbin threw Rey Mysterio off the top of the building, with Mysterio landing via a video edit. According to Corbin, the moment caused at least one fan to call 911 and say that Corbin had killed Mysterio. Opinion: As ridiculous as it might seem, this is the kind of thing that makes wrestling seem more real. The fan bought into what they were seeing so much tha..
Congratulations! Wrestling is a complicated industry as you have no idea when the wrestlers are going to be able to find free time for anything outside of the ring. The wrestlers are on the road almost constantly and romantic relationships can be even more complicated than anything else. Some wrestlers have figured it out though, even while working for different promotions. During a recent appearance on the Sessions podcast with Renee Paquette, AEW’s Toni Storm revealed that she and New Japan’s Juice Robinson have been married. The two had previously announced their engagement, with Storm saying that they had been planning a wedding before just deciding to get married one morning. There is nothing to indicate that the two will be wrestling together anytime soon. Opinion: This is one of those things that you do not see happen very often but it is always special no matter what happens. Storm and Robinson work for different companies but seem to have found a way to pull this off. Good f..
Wait…who? There are a lot of different aspects that come together to make a wrestling star feel important but one of the biggest is their name. You can only get so far with a bad name and that has been shown on more than one occasion over the years. WWE has a hit and miss record with naming its wrestlers, but this time around even what they had isn’t quite right. WWE has a live event scheduled for the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 14. There have been a few matches announced, but the arena’s website had listed incorrect names for the show. This includes “Seth “Franklin” Rollins” and “Ashule” instead of Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Asuka. The incorrect names were still listed as of Thursday morning but had been corrected later in the day. Had to see for myself that this is real. WWE is back. pic.twitter.com/OYYYUVal1c — Nationally Published Troll (@mongo_ebooks) June 9, 2022 Opinion: That’s the kind of error that might not mean anything in the sho..
It deserves some praise. Every so often, you see a match that catches your attention for all of the right reasons. The whole thing comes together so well that it is impossible to not like it for almost every possible aspect. Those are the matches that will be remembered for a long time to come and now it has happened again, with even WWE getting in on the match’s praise. The main event of this Sunday’s Hell In A Cell pay per view saw Cody Rhodes defeat Seth Rollins in the show’s namesake match. Rhodes wrestled the match with a torn pectoral muscle, leaving him injured throughout. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, those at WWE’s Gorilla position were said to have “loved” the match and seen it as a modern classic, which WWE will treat it as going forward. I’ve had multiple sources reach out this morning w/ exemplary words for the performance Cody Rhodes put in last night. Credit to Seth Rollins as well. Those at Gorilla were said to have LOVED the match. A modern day, all ..
That’s a heck of a class. One of the things that you will constantly hear from veteran wrestlers is the importance of passing down knowledge to the new generation. At some point, these wrestlers have to tell the new crop of stars how to do all of this stuff and that is not something you often see. You could see it now in a pretty big place though, if the teachers would let you that is. According to Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT, AEW’s William Regal and Bryan Danielson will get in the ring every Wednesday morning at television tapings and teach/work with younger wrestlers. Phones are not allowed but all wrestlers are welcome to attend and participate. Ricky Starks has confirmed that the sessions take place and says that Regal and Danielson regularly engage with him. Regal says he and Bryan Danielson arrive at AEW TVs and from 11am get in the ring to work/teach. No phones allowed. All the young talent are welcome to get in with them. Ricky Starks confirmed to me he's seen them workin..
