That’s something special. There are all kinds of things that need to come together to make a wrestler a success. At or near the top of the list is the ability to talk, as it can make the fans care about you in a way that almost anything in the ring just cannot do. Being able to use the right words help, and now another WWE star is revealing a special privilege that she has when it comes to talking. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Oh No: Former Impact Wrestling Star Arrested For Violating Order of Protection Involving Wife During a new interview with Sports Media with Richard Deitsch, Monday Night Raw star Rhea Ripley revealed that she has some creative freedom with promos. While there are promos where she is required to say certain things to get points across and cannot change much, she has “free range” on backstage segments. Such freedom when it comes to promos are not common in WWE, with only a handful of wrestlers being granted such permission. Ripley is quite the star. Check out her rece..
He’s the first. While they might not always seem like it, wins and losses make a big difference in wrestling. If a wrestler is not treated as someone who can win matches when they matter, or at all really, the fans are going to pick up on it. That is why winning consistently can make someone a big star, and now someone has reached quite the winning milestone. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: AEW Personality Says He Might Have Suffered A Broken Jaw This Week The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Jon Moxley defeat Evil Uno via submission. The win marked Moxley’s 100th in AEW, making him the first wrestler to reach the milestone in the company. AEW has kept records of wins and losses since the company began. Moxley also holds the records for most reigns as AEW World Champion (three) and the most combined days as AEW World Champion (347). Moxley has been a star in AEW. It would be big. Wrestling fans today have access to more content than they ever could have dreamed possible. The rise of streaming services allows fans to see all kinds of wrestling from around the world with ease and that can make things a lot easier. It also leaves some fans wondering where to start and now that decision might be getting even more complicated. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: AEW Faces Lawsuit Over Using Luchasaurus Mask Without Creator’s Permission According to Bloomberg, Tony Khan and AEW are considering launching their own streaming service. The service would be through Warner Brothers Discovery, which broadcasts AEW Dynamite and Rampage. There is no word on what other kinds of content could be available on the service or if it would be a stand alone option. There have been rumors of an AEW streaming service for over a year, with speculation over it joining another existing service or starting a new one. The company has the content. Check out some of what might be..
That’s not a good look. The right attire is one of the most important parts of a wrestler’s presentation. Making a wrestler look good is a great way to give the fans a reason to care about them, which can be incredibly tricky. That can involve some very unique looking material, but in a recent case, it is not going well for a current star, as a certain part of his gear is getting him in legal trouble. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s New: AEW Announces Series Of Non-Televised Live Events According to Wrestlenomics, AEW and Luchasaurus are being sued by a company called Composite Effects LLC (CFX) for using and profiting from their design in Luchasaurus’ mask without permission. While Luchasaurus was allowed to use the mask in the ring, there was no permission to use it in merchandise. CFX provided emails from Luchasaurus talking about a possible modification of a mask the company had created before, which became his signature mask. When CFX attempted to come to a licensing agreement, no..
There’s a hint. With just a week to go before the 2023 Royal Rumble, WWE has mostly put the entire card together. While the matches are ready though, there are still a few questions that need to be answered. One of the more wide open spots on the card is the Pitch Black match between LA Knight and Bray Wyatt, as we don’t know much about it. Now that has changed, at least a little. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Switch It Up: Raw XXX Bloodline Acknowledgment Ceremony Canceled, Replaced With New Idea According to Fightful Select, the match will include some form of “neon” elements, though it is not clear what that will mean. In addition, it is said that WWE either has done or will be doing some run throughs for the match. This week on SmackDown, commentary mentioned that the match will be won by pinfall or submission. There are no other details on the match, with Knight saying that he does not know what it means either. The match has been set up. Check out how the build has gone: [This post ..
There’s your cameo. There have been all kinds of wrestlers throughout history and some of them are names who do not make the biggest impact. Some of them make a short term impact and become a bit more infamous than famous, but they are not around all that long. Now one of the more memorable stars from WCW made an appearance in a spot you might not have expected him. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s About That Time: Wrestling Legend Says He Does Not Have Much Time Left In The Ring Ernest “The Cat” Miller made a surprise appearance this week on Impact Wrestling, helping new Director Of Authority Santino Marella set up a six person tag match for later in the night. There is no word on if Miller will be appearing again for Impact Wrestling. Miller was a former WCW Commissioner during WCW’s final years before eventually wrestling and commentating for WWE. After a nearly ten year hiatus, Miller returned to the ring in 2015 and still wrestles occasionally. Miller certainly had some interesting ..
He’s still there. WWE has been changed in a variety of ways over the last several months and there is no idea on when things will settle back down. This has turned the company upside down and a lot of the changes have been centered around the McMahon Family. The Family has been around wrestling for years, but one member is not there that often. He is still with WWE though and now we know a bit more about his status. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Time Frame: Here’s When WWE Wants To Finish Sale, Plus Possible Buyers WWE has recently shaken up its Board Of Directors, which required a filing with the Securities And Exchange Commission (SEC). According to the filing, Shane McMahon is still part of WWE as an independent contractor and was paid approximately $828,000 in 2022. McMahon wrestled one match for the company during the year, appearing in the Men’s Royal Rumble match for less than six minutes. He was sent home after the show due to disagreements over how he should be presented. McMahon ..
From both sides! A wrestling match is not a complicated concept. You have (usually) two wrestlers in the ring at once with the match most often ending via pinfall or submission. That is a pretty simple formula, but at the same time there is often a third person in the ring: the referee. While the referee is supposed to be impartial, that is not always going to be the case. Now a referee has gotten involved with a match and changed it in a big way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Releases Never Before Seen Roman Reigns Match Earlier this week, WWE held a live event in the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. In the show’s main event, Braun Strowman, Ricochet and Kevin Owens teamed up to face the Bloodline. Late in the match, Sami Zayn yelled at referee Jessika Carr, prompting Carr to hit him with a Stunner. Owens then came in and hit another Stunner to win the match for his team. A video of Carr’s Stunner has made its way online. It was a good one. Check out the Stunn..
That’s a nice update. Injuries can take down any wrestler at any given time and there is little that can be done to stop it. No matter how talented or skilled a wrestler may be, they can suffer an injury in the blink of an eye. This could be the kind of thing that keeps them out of action for any length of time and all you can do is wait on them to get back. Now we have a positive update on an injured star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Other Side: Top WWE Star Undergoes Important Change The Street Profits’ Montez Ford appeared on the Today Show this week and revealed that his calf injury is completely healed and he should be back “pretty soon”. When he returns, Ford said that his mission is still at hand: winning the WWE Tag Team Titles. Ford has not wrestled since a live event on September 24 and there is no word on when he will be back in the ring. It would be great to have him back. Check out what a healthy Ford can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains v..
We have a new one. There are all kinds of wrestling matches with a variety of stipulations available. Depending on which kind of feud is taking place, you can pick which kind of match fits everything best. It can be a cool moment when you see a new match being introduced, even if it is a mixture of multiple matches seen before. Now we are going to be seeing a brand new one and it is a bit complicated. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch? Randy Orton’s Wife Posts Photo Of Him From Hospital This week on NXT, Shawn Michaels announced a new match type, which will take place at NXT Deadline on December 10. The match will be called the Iron Survivor Challenge. Two wrestlers will start and every five minutes, a new one will be added until all five are in. You win with the most falls in 25 minutes, with falls coming via pinfall, submission or DQ. If you win a fall, you get a point, but the person who loses the fall is put in a penalty match for 90 seconds. The winner is the new #1 contender, with en..
Welcome back! There have been a lot of stars to come through the WWE’s doors over the years and it can be quite a moment when someone leaves. There are some departures that can shake up the company, while others leave without getting to prove themselves well enough. Occasionally those stars will get to make a return and that is the case again with a long departed star. Emma made a surprise return this week on SmackDown, marking her first appearance with the company in just under five years. Emma answered Ronda Rousey’s open challenge for a SmackDown Women’s Title shot, ultimately losing via submission. This was Emma’s first appearance for WWE since October 2017. She previously wrestled in WWE and NXT from 2012-2017 and has stayed on the independent circuit since, plus a stint in Impact Wrestling. Opinion: I’m glad to see Emma back as she is someone who could be put into the middle of the card to fill in a spot. She has the talent and charisma needed to be interesting and I could go f..
And that’s that. WWE has long since become the biggest wrestling company in the world and as a result the company has more money than they know what to do with most of the time. That is quite the accomplishment, but it also means that they have a target on them with others trying to take some of that money from them. Now someone is going to, but it might not be what they had in mind. Back in 2018, tattoo artist Catherine Alexander sued WWE, Take-Two Interactive Software and the developers of the WWE2K video game series. The suit was filed claiming copyright infringement over tattoos that Alexander created for Randy Orton, which appeared in the game. WWE and the game’s producers claimed that the tattoos fell under fair use while Alexander claimed that she never gave permission for the tattoos to be used. According to PWInsider.com, the case came to trial last week and the jury found in favor of Alexander, awarding her $3,750 but no royalties from the game sales. Opinion: It may sound ..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Bangerz Only Date: April 2, 2022 Location: Fair Park, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Denise Salcedo, Sam Leterna, Veda Scott This is from Mission Pro Wrestling, an all women’s promotion owned by AEW Thunder Rosa, from over Wrestlemania weekend. That means we should be in for a fun show which likely includes a fair few guest stars. I have no idea what to expect from this show and that is a nice feeling, as it could be a little bit of anything. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Shazza McKenzie vs. Janai Kai Kai has..
The saga continues. According to multiple reports, WWE has filed a new notice with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), claiming that they learned of two additional payments totaling $5 million that was paid by Vince McMahon. The filing claims that the payments are unrelated to the $14.6 million in “certain unrecorded expenses” that date back to 2006. This scandal played a huge part in McMahon stepping down as CEO of WWE and retiring. The filing reads as follows: “On June 17, 2022, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (the “Company”) and its Board of Directors announced that a special committee of independent members of the Board of Directors (the “Special Committee”) was conducting an investigation into alleged misconduct by the Company’s former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Vincent K. McMahon, who resigned from all positions held with the Company on July 22, 2022 but remains a stockholder with a controlling interest, and another executive, who is also..
I guess you can’t do that. According to a report from WWE.com, Ronda Rousey has been fined an undisclosed amount and will be suspended from the company. This is due to her attack on referee Dan Engler at SummerSlam 2022, following her match with Liv Morgan for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. The attack came after Rousey was upset that she made Morgan tap out to an arm bar submission; however, she did so while her shoulders were on the mat and the referee counted to three. The referee did not see the tap, and as a result, Morgan retained her championship. Due to her suspension, Rousey will not appear on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown. We will continue to monitor the story and provide updates as they become available. Editor’s Opinion: This is a safe way to write Rousey off of television and not make the champion look weak. On paper, it would seem like this was a complete mismatch at SummerSlam and might not have been believable to have the champion defeat such a decorated c..
This happens far too often. Wrestling is a weird business, as the wrestlers have little in the way of a guarantee. They will often bounce from one promotion to the other and pick up work where they can. In addition, they have nothing in the way of benefits and that can create a problem after their careers are over. As sad as it is, that is the case again for another former star. Former WWE star Mo, of Men On A Mission fame, has announced that he is undergoing health issues and is starting a GoFundMe to help pay for medical expenses. Mo’s issues stem from contracting the Coronavirus while being immunocompromised due to a previous kidney transplant. This resulted in a three week stint in the ICW as well as being on an oxygen machine since his release. Mo also had complications due to a hernia and is being fed through a feeding tube due to an emergency surgery. The fund is seeking to raise $50,000 and has reached just over $4,000 so far. Opinion: This is one of those things that you see..
It had been previously reported that WWE had made a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, announcing that Vince McMahon had paid $14.6 million that were not recorded as company expenses. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the SEC and federal prosecutors have launched inquiries into payments made by McMahon to settle allegations of sexual misconduct. The report states that the payments were made from 2006 through 2022. WWE has said McMahon “has or will pay” all the expenses personally, and it expects to revise previous financial statements going back to 2019 to reflect the payments. WWE also said that an internal board investigation “expects to conclude that its internal control over financial reporting was not effective as a result of one or more material weaknesses.” WWE has lucrative licensing deals with entertainment giants such as Fox Corp. and NBCUniversal, which could be at risk due to these allegations. The company is also seeking new busines..
Maybe that’s next. WWE does not have the strongest history when it comes to tag team wrestling. The company has had some periods of focusing on tag wrestling, but it tends to go in a different way. Most of the time WWE tends to focus on one or two teams at a time and that is the case again. Now the main team is interested in trying their hands in another part of WWE. Last week on NXT, Grayson Waller interrupted a Solo Sikoa interview, which help set up the show’s tag team main event with the two of them on opposing sides. This caused the Usos, Sikoa’s brothers, to comment on the interview, suggesting that they were coming to NXT to deal with Waller in the future, though nothing has been announced. Waller responded, telling the Usos to ask Roman Reigns for permission to work on Tuesdays. The Usos did not reference the fact that Sikoa is their brother. Keep that same energy when we pull up uce…? https://t.co/EdAFvAB5yZ — The Usos (@WWEUsos) June 12, 2022 Make sure you ask Roman’s per..
