Cha Ching: How WWE Made A Million Dollars In About Five Minutes

That’s a lot of money. WWE is a company that makes more money than it knows what to do with most of the time and that has put them in a very strong spot. They know how to bring in all kinds of money and often find new ways of doing so. The company is willing to accept almost any method of bringing in extra money and now we know how they did so again recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Bray Wyatt/Uncle Howdy Storyline Gets Even More Confusing At WWE Live Event Last month at the Royal Rumble, WWE presented the Pitch Black match between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight, presented by Mountain Dew. The match saw both wrestlers wrestling in neon gear with the lights turned down and several mentions of the drink. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the match was a “million dollar deal” for WWE. A WWE executive has already announced that another sponsored match will take place at WrestleMania 39 without giving any details. Mountain Dew got a lot out of this. Check out how things went for them..

NXT Results – January 10, 2023 (New Year’s Evil)

NXT Date: January 10, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph It’s New Year’s Evil and this time we have the NXT Title on the line as Grayson Waller challenges Bron Breakker. Other than that, we have a twenty woman battle royal for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title. Throw in Indus Sher vs. the Creed Brothers and we should be in for a good one. Let’s get to it. We open at Chase U, with Andre Chase assigning the class to watch New Year’s Evil. Chase recaps everything and mentions Australia. A student asks Duke Hudson if he’s Australian and gets thrown out because Thea Hail doesn’t need to be near that kind of stupidity before her battle royal. Hail gets fired up and is all ready to go. Dijak vs. Tony D’Angelo Stacks is here with D’Angelo and Wes Lee is on commentary. They fight to the floor and then back inside, with D’Angelo getting knocked down outside. Back in again where a shot to Dijak lets them head back outside. This ..

In Name Only: Vince McMahon Mentioned On WWE TV Again

He’s still on their minds. This has been one of the most eventful years in the history of wrestling but nothing really comes close to Vince McMahon stepping down as head of WWE. McMahon had been in charge of the company for about forty years and several people have never seen WWE under someone else’s control. Now though, we have heard his name again on WWE programming in a positive light. During the opening match of this week’s NXT, commentator Booker T. mentioned McMahon, referring to him as one of the all time great wrestling minds. The mention came during a list of other promoters, including Paul Bosch. This was one of, if not the, first mentions of McMahon since he officially retired from WWE on July 22 in the midst of an investigation over a string of payments to various women over the years. It was part of a big show. Check out some more of this week’s NXT: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click ..

REVIEW: Halloween Havoc 1999: The Zaniness Is Upon Us

Halloween Havoc 1999 Date: October 24, 1999 Location: MGM Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Attendance: 8,464 Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone The Russo Era is officially upon us as we got a big time preview this past Monday. However, this show is the real thing with Russo getting to direct where things go from here. Expect to see a lot more pointless talking, a lot more insanity and a lot more shouting about what I did to deserve this. Let’s get to it. The opening video focuses on Sid vs. Goldberg and mentions the whole “Goldberg can’t touch him” bit, which has basically been ignored. Hogan vs. Sting gets even less hype. A LOUD Weasel chant is ignored by Heenan as Tony announces that due to Rey Mysterio being injured, the Filthy Animals have been stripped of the Tag Team Titles. The solution? A triple threat hardcore title match for the belts with Kidman substituting for Mysterio. Well why bother having a match when you can just make it hardcore? They run down the rest of ..

REVIEW: Hell In A Cell 2017: The Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Hell in a Cell 2017 Date: October 8, 2017 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s time for the Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show. The main event tonight is Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens inside the show’s namesake structure as Shane fights to defend his family’s honor. Other than that we have the Usos challenging the New Day for the Tag Team Titles inside the Cell too. Let’s get to it. On the Kickoff Show, Tye Dillinger mentions to Daniel..

WWE Discussing Major Return, Possibly As Soon As The Royal Rumble

Back in the fold? We are less than a week away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to get ready for the Road To WrestleMania 38. WWE has a lot of work to do to get ready for the biggest event of the year and that means getting a lot of big names in position for the show. Some of them have not been around in a long time, but WWE might be bringing one of them back. According to Fightful Select, WWE is having internal discussions about bringing back former Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. The discussions have reached the point where they are considered a “poorly kept secret” in the company. Rousey has been discussed as a possible women’s Royal Rumble entrant but nothing has been confirmed. Rousey’s return is said to be a matter of “when” rather than “if”. She has not wrestled since WrestleMania 35 and gave birth to her daughter in September. Opinion: I would be happy to see Rousey back in WWE, but after several previous mentions of her return, I’ll believe it when I see it..

AEW Star Opens Up About Current Mental Health Issues

Talking about it can help. Wrestlers are an interesting group of people as their job is to play larger than life characters on television but they have to find a way to turn that off once the show is over. That is a lot easier said than done, but somehow they have to find a way to make it work. Sometimes certain things from outside wrestling can cause some issues in front of the camera and that seems to be the case again. AEW star the Blade has posted a statement to Instagram, revealing that he has been dealing with issues of anxiety, depression and confidence. Blade mentions that he has had these issues all of his life but only realized it during the Coronavirus pandemic when they spiked. He has since tried to manage them on his own but recently suffered another spike. As a result he has talked to AEW management and is thankful for all of the responses that he has received from everyone. Blade has not wrestled since the October 11 edition of AEW Dark and it is not clear when he will ..

WWE Reportedly Makes Surprising Release

That’s a surprise. There have been a lot of changes to the WWE landscape over the last year and a half, as all kinds of names have been released. That can cause a lot of jarring differences, but there are a few people you can almost count on to always be there. It turns out that will not be the case with another name though, as WWE may have let someone else go. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has released ring announcer Greg Hamilton, effective earlier this week. Hamilton reportedly took issue with rapper Westside Gunn using his voice and threatened to have WWE sue Gunn and was released soon after, though this is not confirmed as the reason for his release. Hamilton has removed all WWE mentions from his Twitter account and set it to private. Starting with WWE in 2015, Hamilton moved up from NXT and Tough Enough to become the voice of SmackDown. There have been some great ring announcers in WWE history. Check out how some of them have done over the years: [This post contains video, c..

VIDEO: AEW Star’s Wife Unhappy With How He Is Being Used

I guess she isn’t pleased. There are a lot of people on the AEW roster, which makes things a little more complicated. While there is a lot of talent around in the company, there is only three hours of television time a week. That does not leave room for a lot of people to be included, which is made even more complicated when AEW is bringing in even bigger stars. Some people are not going to be used and now we are hearing some complaints. Melissa Santos, the former ring announcer for Lucha Underground and the wife of AEW’s Brian Cage, has taken to Twitter to complain about Cage’s current status in AEW. Santos mentions that Cage is a superstar and has not gotten the chance to show that so far. Cage responded and seemed to agree, though he did not say anything specifically negative about AEW. This comes as Cage has been feuding with Ricky Starks and Team Taz in recent weeks. I'm just going to leave this right here. @AEW @AEWonTNT #briancage pic.twitter.com/3Xjk8NDWSP — Melissa San..

YES? NO? Update On Daniel Bryan’s WWE Status

Not so fast? There are certain wrestlers who can completely capture the fans’ attention, which makes for some amazing moments. You do not get wrestlers like that very often but when you do, you know that you are getting something special. WWE has had its share of those wrestlers over the years and one seemed primed for a return. However, that might not be the case at the moment. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s recent mentions of Daniel Bryan are no indication that he will be returning in the near future. Bryan has been mentioned in connection with the Edge vs. Roman Reigns feud, but it is only to advance their story. His most recent match took place on the April 30 SmackDown, when he was defeated by Reigns, forcing him to leave SmackDown. You might remember him. Check out some of Bryan’s best in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure where thi..

VIDEO: John Cena Parody From The Late Show

Any publicity is good publicity right? Wrestlers are not brought up in the mainstream very often and when they are, it rarely winds up going well. Sometimes it can be better than others, but more often than not, the mentions are not the most positive. Every now and then you find a wrestler who has made it into the mainstream in a more positive light, but that was not quite the case this time. The Late Show parodied John Cena’s apology to China earlier this week on an episode of its show. Earlier this week, Cena referred to Taiwan as a country, which was followed almost immediately by an apology to China in Mandarin, even though the apology did not specify why he was apologizing. The Late Show aired a video, showing Cena’s “full” apology, including captions saying what he “really” said. You knew something like this was coming. Check out the Late Show’s parody: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is a situation where Cena needs to just take what is coming to him ..

205 Live Results – March 12, 2021

205 Live Date: March 12, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph For once we’re coming off of a pretty strong show as last week saw good stuff in both of the show’s matches. The talent is there, but it is all about finding an interesting way to present it. This show has had a serious problem figuring it out along the way but hopefully they can start going in the right direction again. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Bollywood Boyz vs. Curt Stallion/Mansoor Ever-Rise joins commentary for a bonus. Commentary mentions Mansoor being undefeated during his entrance as it seems to be a thing. Mansoor wristlocks Sunil to start but gets reversed into a headlock for his efforts. Samir comes in and it’s a pair of leapfrogs into a double back elbow for two on Mansoor. Some double dropkicks take the Boyz down but it’s too early for the hot tag. A double suplex gets two on Mansoor and we hit the chinlock. Sunil holds Mansoor’s l..

WWE Brings Back Old School Treat Nationwide

The good news that we need. Sometimes people need to smile and there are certain things that are going to cause that almost every time. While it might not be everyone’s favorite, one of the most accurate ways to go is through some nice sweets, which can come in many forms. As you might expect, WWE knows how to get in on something like this and that is what they have done again. If you remember the late 1980s, or perhaps the Summer of Punk in WWE, the company has a history with a certain kind of dessert. That would of course be WWE ice cream bars, which have become something so popular that they even have their own merchandise. It’s something that fans have been wanting to see back for a long time and after a lot of mentions, the day has finally come. According to Good Humor via Twitter, the WWE Superstar Cookie Sandwiches have been released nationwide and are available via delivery in select markets via the Ice Cream Shop. There are currently four Superstars available, including Rand..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – November 21, 2018

Ring of Honor Date: November 21, 2018 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana We’re still in Philadelphia and the big story coming out of last week was the return of Dalton Castle, who helped Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeat the Kingdom. We open with a recap of Castle returning and looking at the title. Opening sequence. Here are Castle and the Boys to get things going. Castle mentions that he was injured for over three months, but he didn’t go home and just sip mint juleps. He went home and sipped mint juleps but started putting in the world. Update On A Potential Triple H Vs. Batista Match At WrestleMania 35

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the updates surrounding a potential Triple H vs. Batista match for WrestleMania 35. Despite not being employed by WWE, Batista is a name that continues to surface as somebody who could return at any moment. It has widely been reported that Batista denied a Hall of Fame spot because he feels his career with the company isn’t over. He has said in the past on many occasions that he wants to work a full program with Triple H, culminating in a WrestleMania match. Meltzer had the following to say as an update on a possible match between Batista and Triple H next year: “You know Batista wants to work with Triple H at next year’s WrestleMania as a retirement match. Will they do it? They may. It’s not a bad idea as far as a match goes. Batista retirement, Hall of Fame and all that. They asked him to go into the Hall of Fame this year but he didn’t want to because he still wants a final run.” The idea, as Meltzer mentions, is for Batista..

Bischoff on Wrestling Recap – Russo’s Restraining Order, RAW & Smackdown on WWE Network, Should Joe Defeat Lesnar? More!

<p>Bischoff is joined on today’s show by his co-host Nick Hausman.</p><p>Bischoff comments on the news that Vince Russo filed a restraining order against Jim Cornette recently. He simply calls this action by Russo ‘bizarre’, and he’s getting sick and tired of talking about Russo. At first it was fun to poke fun at Russo because he’s so easy to get fired up, but at this point it’s just <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/silly/" title="silly">silly</a></strong>.</p><p>Hausman mentions that initially fans thought all these verbal jabs between Russo, Cornette, Bischoff and Prichard were a work, which would ultimately result in some live debate tour featuring all men. It’s obvious now that was never the case. Bischoff mentions that we was offered a pretty good pay day recently to do an in-ring segment with Russo for an indie promotion in P.E.I.,Canada. Even though the money was good, he turned it down because Russo is just too weird to be around.</p><p></p><p>Bischoff thought the <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/samoa-joe" title="Samoa Joe">Samoa Joe</a></strong>/<strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/brock-lesnar" title="Brock Lesnar">Brock Lesnar</a></strong> segment from RAW this past week created some mystique, and that’s something that has been sorely missing from WWE’s product lately. Joe is a great character, and luckily WWE has made a commitment to Joe’s character because now Joe comes off as a believable threat to Lesnar. Bischoff thinks Joe will give Lesnar some of the best matches he has had in recent memory.</p>

X-Pac 1, 2, 360 Recap – The Ball’s Appearance on RAW, Joe vs. Lesnar, X-Pac Almost Stars on GLOW? More!

<p>X-Pac opens today’s show speaking about Cody Rhodes’ recent ROH World Title victory. He says that he’s very proud of Rhodes, who took a huge risk and left the safe surroundings of WWE in order to bet on himself. It’s safe to say that Rhodes’ bet is paying off right now. X-Pac says that he <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/heard/" title="heard">heard</a></strong> a lot of friends criticize Rhodes’ decision, some even calling him a mark for <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/doing/" title="doing">doing</a></strong> this, but X-Pac was <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/happy/" title="happy">happy</a></strong> to see Rhodes follow his heart.</p><p></p><p>X-Pac mentions that he was lucky enough to be backstage at RAW this week in Los Angeles, where a lot of interesting things were happening. He was able to sit and talk with guest star Josh Duhamel for a while, and he was able to experience the backstage reaction during the MizTV segment featuring LaVar Ball and his two sons.</p><p>He says that WWE should have known that this was going to be a disaster and they very well might have, but they obviously didn’t care. He says that LaVar Ball went off script nearly right from the start and was jumping all over everyone else’s lines. In spite of all that, and even after the youngest son used derogatory language, McMahon was still urging cameramen to follow them to the backstage area and through Gorilla, because he didn’t want the cameras to miss anything good.</p>
