REVIEW: ROH Best In The World 2018: They’re Not Far Off

December 10, 2022

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Best in the World 2018 Date: June 29, 2018 Location: UMBC Event Center, Cantonsville, Maryland Commentators: Colt Cabana, Ian Riccaboni It’s pay per view time and even though I’ve already seen the next TV show, none of that matters as we have a few weeks to spare because of Ring of Honor’s wacky TV schedule. The main event here is a triple threat between World Champion Dalton Castle, Cody and Marty Scurll but the real highlight should be the Young Bucks challenging the Briscoes for the Tag Team Titles..

VIDEO: Controversial Wrestler Returning To The Ring After SpeakingOut Allegations

September 23, 2021

That will get people talking. There are all kinds of people in the wrestling world and some of them do not have the best reputation. Sometimes you will see a wrestler get blackballed from the industry and that could be the case for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately some of these are a lot more serious than others, though one such wrestler will be making his return to the ring soon. Puerto Rico promotion CWA has released a video announcing that Marty Scurll will be making his debut with the company at Halloween Fan Fest on October 23 in San Juan. There is no word on what Scurll will be doing on the show. Scurll has not wrestled since February 2020 after facing allegations of a sexual encounter in the United Kingdom with an intoxicated 16 year old (the age of consent in the country) in 2015. While Scurll insisted the act was consensual, the girl described it as an assault of a child. As a result, Scurll was let go from Ring of Honor and has not been seen in wrestling since. This isn’..

REVIEW: WrestleReunion VI: The Stars Are Out

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. WrestleReunion VI Date: January 28, 2012 Location: The Westin Los Angeles Airport, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 900 Commentators: Excalibur, Marty DeRosa I’m not completely sure on the name of this show as I’ve seen it as both WrestleReunion VI and Pro Wrestling Superstars: Los Angeles but I’ll take the one with Roman numerals. As you can probably guess, it’s a big time indy reunion show featuring a bunch of wrestlers from years past, which can make for some interesting matchups but often some lackluster perfo..

More On Marty Jannetty Claiming He Killed Someone

September 9, 2020

That’s a relieving explanation. Back in 1991, Shawn Michaels sent Marty Jannetty through the Barber Shop window in the most famous tag team split in WWE history. Michaels went on to become the top star in the company a few years later and became a legend. On the other hand, Jannetty became a running punchline in wrestling, with the accomplishments he has had over the years being completely forgotten. Now something else has been forgotten, which might be for the best. Back in August, Jannetty made a post to Facebook claiming that he killed a man in self defense back when he was a teenager and threw his body in a river. This got a lot of people’s attention, as you might have expected, including the local police department who mentioned that they would be looking into Jannetty’s claims. Somewhere along the lines it went a bit too far though and Jannetty has changed his tune. In a new post to Facebook, Jannetty said that he made the whole thing up as it was the start of a wrestling story..

Ring Of Honor Undergoes Big Shakeup Over SpeakingOut Movement

August 15, 2020

The changes continue. Earlier this year, the SpeakingOut Movement shook a lot of different parts of the wrestling world with no company being immune to the accusations coming from all over the place. Several wrestlers have been punished in one way or another with some of them being in bigger trouble than others. One of the more prominent names involved is in trouble as well, and now we know what that includes. One of the bigger stories from late 2019 into early 2020 was the status of Marty Scurll. As one of the bigger names outside of a major wrestling promotion, the question became where Scurll would wind up when his Ring of Honor contract expired. Scurll would up deciding to stay with Ring of Honor, though with the added bonus of being the promotion’s booker. Since then, Scurll has been named in the SpeakingOut Movement and things have been changed as a result. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Scurll is no longer the Ring of Honor booker, pending a human resources in..

Marty Jannetty May Have Admitted To Murder On Social Media

August 5, 2020

You have to be careful about what you put out there. Marty Jannetty has had an odd presence in the world over the last few years; a few years ago he asked if it was OK to have sex with someone that wasn’t her biological daughter after it was proved that she wasn’t by a DNA test. In his latest escapade, he may have just done something worse. According to a report from SB Nation, Jannetty may have admitted to committing a murder when he was 13 years old. In a post that has since now been deleted, he alleges that he was targeted by a man when he was 13 years old, who he believed was going to sexually assault him. Jannetty then killed the man, and dumped his body in the Chattahoochie River, presumably in, or near Columbus, Georgia. Below is an image of the post. Note that there is inappropriate language, and a homophobic slur was edited out of the original by SB Nation: Check out Jannetty’s most famous moment in professional wrestling: We will continue to monitor this story and prov..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – March 11, 2020

March 16, 2020

Ring of Honor Date: March 11, 2020 Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Host: Quinn McKay We’re still in Baltimore and that means we should be getting close to the main event sooner or later. The show was built around the NWA invasion, meaning NWA World Champion Nick Aldis should be around. That could make for something interesting and that’s what this company is needing. Let’s get to it. We look at the NWA invasion as we move towards Aldis vs. Marty Scurll for the World Title. This ties into Rush vs. PCO for the World Title. Opening sequence. Rey Horus vs. Brody King Horus starts fast with the strikes but can’t get very far. Instead, King goes with the power to shove him down. They go outside and we take a rather early break. Back with Horus trying his own strikes, setting up a slingshot hurricanrana to the floor. King gets back in and blasts him with a clothesline, followed by the hard piledriver for two. Horus is right ba..

NWA Powerrr Results – March 3, 2020

March 4, 2020

If you would like to see this show for free, you can check it out in full right here: Powerrr Date: March 3, 2020 Location: GPB Studios, Atlanta, Georgia Commentators: Joe Galli, Stu Bennett The Crockett Cup is starting to look and that could mean things are starting to pick up. We still have over a month to go before the show but Marty Scurll is coming for the NWA World Title, which could make for a heck of a title match. The tournament is coming up as well so let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. Sean Mooney previews the show, including two title matches. TV Title: Zicky Dice vs. Ricky Starks Dice is challenging and takes Starks to the mat without much trouble. Starks gets knocked down again and this time Dice wraps his ribs around the post. Back in and the chinlock doesn’t last long so Dice chokes on the ropes instead. A Falcon Arrow gives Starks two but Dice hits the Snake Rattle and Roll. Starks is in the ropes at two so Dice walks around and points to his head. ..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – March 13, 2019

March 14, 2019

Ring of Honor Date: March 13, 2019 Location: RP Funding Center, Lakeland, Florida Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana I’m not sure what to expect from this show anymore and that’s a very cool thing to say. The stories have gotten awesome as of late and that makes me want to keep watching. This is the unofficial go home show for the Anniversary Show this Friday, where a lot of things will be set up for the MSG show. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Jay Lethal destroying Matt Taven’s fake World Title last week. Opening sequence. Kingdom vs. Villain Enterprises TK O’Ryan/Vinny Marseglia vs. Marty Scurll/PCO here with no one in either corner. The Kingdom jumps them before the bell but a screaming PCO clotheslines them both. He and Scurll clear the ring and pose before settling down to work on O’Ryan’s arm. Marseglia breaks up a sunset flip attempt though and whips Scurll nearly through the barricade to take over. Back in and a double suplex gets two on Marty as we take a b..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – February 13, 2019

February 18, 2019

Ring of Honor Date: February 13, 2019 Location: Center Stage Theater, Atlanta, Georgia Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana, Caprice Coleman We’re still down in Atlanta and this time around it’s an old school feeling with the NWA World Title on the line as champion Nick Aldis defending against PJ Black. Neither of them are exactly regulars around here, but that’s never stopped ROH when guest stars are involved. We should be getting ready for a big show around here, though it’s kind of hard to tell which one it is around here. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. John Skyler, Corey Hollis and Josey Quinn (also not regulars) are in the ring and say they deserve the attention. No six man team can beat them, and here are some people to challenge that theory. John Skyler/Corey Hollis/Josey Quinn vs. Villain Enterprises Before the match, Marty Scurll says he used to be like the three of them because they’re not a bit jaded. He’s sure the three of them are going to make a huge impact, b..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – December 12, 2018

December 14, 2018

Ring of Honor Date: December 12, 2018 Location: Stage AE, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Colt Cabana, Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman It’s the go home show for Final Battle and most of the card is actually set for the only time of the year. I could go for more of that but ROH would rather have the ridiculous scheduling for whatever reason. On top of that this is likely the last time we’ll be seeing the major stories this year as we tend to get Best Of shows to close out December. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of SCU’s contract situation and Christopher Daniels agreeing to have his last match against Marty Scurll at Final Battle with a World Title shot on the line. Opening sequence. Silas Young vs. Flip Gordon Fallout from a few weeks back where Gordon got caned. Hang on though as Flip asks if Silas is really the Last Real Man. If he’s that serious, let’s make this an I Quit match as a Final Battle preview. Silas kicks him down and says it’s on. Gordon is in trouble e..
