Tomorrow night the hometown boy Zayn gets his shot at Roman Reigns and I think the people might be a bit interested. Other than that we have Gunther defending the Intercontinental Title against Madcap Moss. Let’s get to it. What a comeback. WWE has been undergoing a pretty serious shakeup in the last few days and most of it centers around Vince McMahon himself. After his retirement from the company in July 2022, McMahon is back in his seat as Chairman of the Board and that means things are getting shake up again. Now there is a rumor of when we might see McMahon in public again. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful responded to the tweet, saying it was a rumor that WWE would be announcing McMahon making an appearance at the Royal Rumble on January 28. NXT LVL Up Date: November 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Byron Saxton It’s Black Friday and that seems to be a rather appropriate term for a night with LVL Up. The show has had its recent bright spots and that is about all you can expect from a short burst of decent. I’m not sure what to expect this week and in this case, that might be a good thing. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Xyon Quinn vs. Tank Ledger They fight over wrist control to start before switching off to a test of strength. With that not working, Ledger hiptosses him over but gets sent face first into the middle buckle. Quinn hits him with a hard clothesline, only to get driven hard into the corner. Monday Night Raw Date: November 14, 2022 Location: KFC Yum Center, Louisville, Kentucky Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We are less than two weeks away from Survivor Series and that means it is time to start building some things up for the show. While we have a few matches, the real focus is going to be on WarGames. It looks like Raw will only be supplying the women’s match and more of the lineup needs to be locked in. Let’s get to it. Can’t they all just get along? There have been all kinds of stars throughout the history of WWE, with only a small handful reaching the top of the company. It means a lot to see one of those stars becoming all time legends, meaning they are remembered long after they hang up their boots. At the same time though, not all legends get along and that is the case again, with one having something to say about the other. WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair took to Twitter this week to bash fell Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield for his history of bullying accusations. Flair said that WWE’s anti-bullying campaign must not apply to Layfield, with Flair naming Joey Styles and “Jason” Roberts (presumably Justin Roberts, who accused Layfield of bullying) as former victims. We’ll be seeing some good stuff this week, including Christopher Daniels vs. Jay Lethal as we are only a day away from Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Hangman Page/John Silver vs. Butcher and the Blade Silver charges at both of them to start before Page can even get his vest off. That means Silver gets beaten down in the corner as the numbers game gets the better of it. Butcher, who looks to have slimmed down a bit, chops away and it’s off to Blade for the stomping. Rampage Date: May 27, 2022 Location: Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Ricky Starks It’s the final show before Double Or Nothing and that means it is time for the last push towards the show. If nothing else, we get to find out who will be in the final of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, because that is still going. Tonight is mostly about firming up what is already there though so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Bryan Danielson vs. Matt Sydal William Regal is on commentary as Danielson wins a test of strength and grabs a headlock. Back up and Sydal snaps off a flying mare, leaving us with a standoff. Danielson uppercuts him down and fires off the forearms to the head but Sydal is back with a leg lariat. We take a break and come back with Danielson dropping a knee for two of his own, only to have Sydal kick him in the face for a breather. A hurricanrana gives Sydal two so he goes up for the Meteora, which is pulled into a nasty half..
We’re not done yet. There is so much history to professional wrestling that there is no chance in telling all of its stories. With so many characters, angles and plot twists both in front of and behind the scenes, the stories never really end. Now it seems that we might be getting to hear some more of those stories from one of the more prominent pairs of storytellers in a long time. Last week, VICE TV released its slate of programming for the 2022-23 television season. The slate was missing Dark Side Of The Ring, the professional wrestling documentary series, suggesting that the show might be canceled. However, on Monday, the VICE TV Twitter account sent out a message saying that they were committed to the series, with its producers Evan Husney and Jason Eisener working on new material. NXT LVL Up Date: April 22, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Matt Camp I’m at the point where I don’t know what to expect from this show, as you might get someone making a one off appearance before debuting on the main NXT show or a name with nothing else going on. The show has worked before so maybe they can do it again here. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Malik Blade/Edris Enofe vs. Quincy Elliott/Damaris Griffin This is Griffin’s in-ring debut. Blade staggers the much bigger Elliott with a dropkick but Elliott hits a quick splash on the back to take over. Griffin comes in to work on Enofe’s arm but that’s reversed into another wristlock, allowing Blade to come in with the ax handle. A double belly to back suplex drops Griffin again but he’s right back with a spinebuster. Elliott comes back in to knock Enofe down, allowing Griffin to whip him into the corner over and over. Elliott’s Pounce sends Enofe flying and the nerve hold ..
She has their attention. Over the last year and a half plus, all kinds of wrestlers have left WWE. While the company has released the majority of those wrestlers, there have been a few that have left on their own accord. That opens up some new doors for those wrestlers, and now another one of them might have another place to go, as a major company has shown interest in her. According to Fightful Select, AEW has “significant” interest in bringing in former WWE star Toni Storm. The interest is high enough that multiple AEW wrestlers expect Storm to debut with the company sooner rather than later. Storm made her WWE main roster debut on SmackDown in July 2021 but requested her release from the company in December of the same year after flying home following a live event. Opinion: This isn’t exactly a surprise as Storm is someone with all the talent she could ever need and experience to back it up. That’s a better fit. Celebrities have a weird history in wrestling, as some have done very well but others have clearly been in over their heads with no reason to be there in the first place. That can create some problems if they try to have a match without a lot of catering to their individual cases. WWE seems to understand this and is making such an adjustment to an upcoming celebrity match. Sami Zayn is scheduled to face Jackass’ Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania 38, following a months long feud between the two of them. This week on SmackDown, Zayn requested that the match be made anything goes, with Knoxville accepting the stipulation later in the night. Knoxville and Zayn have been feuding since January, with Zayn eliminating him from the Royal Rumble and Knoxville flying Zayn’s phone number behind a plane over Los Angeles last week. With the Royal Rumble out of the way and the path to Elimination Chamber cleared, we are officially on the Road To WrestleMania 38. It is the biggest time of the year and that means we are on the way to those two nights in Texas and that means WWE is supposed to start picking things up. This is the important stretch of the calendar….and it just isn’t working this year. I was in the house for this year’s Royal Rumble and I have had tickets to WrestleMania for months. I’m flying down to the show and I have a nearly full schedule ready for the weekend, but the whole thing is not clicking. The Rumble had me very fired up, but after seeing what WWE has done, it doesn’t exactly leave me excited about what we are going to be seeing in the coming months (assuming they don’t make any last minute changes to the expected card). You need the right people. There are a lot of people involved in making a WWE show work and several of them are not often seen on camera. In addition to the wrestlers you see in front of you, there are also the people who help put the matches together. WWE has a large group of producers who work with the wrestlers to make the matches as good as they are, but one of them has not been around as much lately. According to Sean Ross Sapp during a Fightful Select podcast, TJ Wilson, better known as Tyson Kidd, has not been backstage at recent WWE events. As a result, several women were not interested in appearing in the women’s Royal Rumble match as Wilson would not be producing it. Wilson is still with WWE, though there are conflicting reports on why he has not been working. One underlying reason seems to be frustration among Wilson and the women he works with over how the women are presented. Fit Finlay was brought in to help with the match instead. There’s your explanation? With such a large roster, WWE is often going to have some people walk away from the company. That might not be the most positive thing, but occasionally there is no way around it. Sometimes wrestlers just do not want to be there anymore, and that seems to have been the case this week as a WWE star simply left the company. Earlier this week, SmackDown’s Toni Storm left WWE by buying a plane ticket and flying home. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Storm flew herself home after Tuesday’s live event due to burnout with WWE. The feud with Charlotte was also cited as a possible reason, as Storm was humiliated in the buildup to their title match and then lost, though this is seen as more speculation. Storm will have a ninety day no compete clause, though there is a chance that it could be extended further due to her walking out. Storm did have some good times in WWE.
