REVIEW: New Japan Wrestle Kingdom 17: That Feels Right

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestle Kingdom XVII Date: January 4, 2023 Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan Commentators: Kevin Kelly, Chris Charlton, Gino Gambino It’s time to go back to New Japan for a promotion that I have not looked at since last year’s Wrestle Kingdom. As tends to be the case with this show, I’m coming in mostly blind, save for knowing the wrestlers involved. The main event is Jay White defending the IWGP World Title against Kazuchika Okada, who he took the title from back in June. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Boltin Oleg ..

Brand New: Former WWE Personality Announces New Wrestling Promotion

He has the background. There are all kinds of wrestling promotions in the world today and some of them have quite the name recognition. Those would be the bigger promotions around, with names like WWE, AEW and Impact Wrestling being the biggest in America. At the same time, there are several promotions that are trying to make their mark and now a well known wrestling personality is trying his hand at doing just that. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Double Ouch: Two AEW Stars Reportedly Injured Former WWE and current New Japan broadcaster Kevin Kelly has announced the launch of American eXcellence Wrestling. The promotion, the first that Kelly has ever had a financial stake in, will hold its first event in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on January 7. There are no wrestlers announced for the show as of yet. Kelly also made it clear that this is just a live event promotion at the moment, but did hint at expansion down the line. This is what I've been dying to share! American eXcellence Wrestling is..

REVIEW: New Japan Lonestar Shootout: Half Of A Heck Of A Night

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Lonestar Shootout Date: April 1, 2022 Location: Fairmont Hotel, Dallas, Texas Attendance: 582 Commentators: Kevin Kelly, Matthew Rehwoldt So this is an interesting one as it is part of the NJPW Strong promotion, but there were two shows taped here. First up was the Lonestar Shootout special, followed by a regular TV show. That wasn’t mentioned during the night so this will be split in two rather than the one night that I watched it live. Let’s get to it. I don’t follow New Japan Strong so I apologize in advance f..

Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night Two Results

Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night Two Date: January 5, 2022 Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan Attendance: 6,379 Commentators: Chris Charlton, Kevin Kelly It’s the second of three nights of this show and this one feels like the biggest. Last night’s main event saw Kazuchika Okada win the IWGP World Title again, which leaves him ready for his first defense against Will Ospreay. The second biggest match on the card is Kenta defending the United States Title against Hiroshi Tanahashi in a No DQ match, which could be a heck of a fight. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Togi Makabe/Yuji Nagata/Tomoaki Honma vs. Bullet Club That would be Bad Luck Fale, Gedo and Jado for the Club. The Club jumps them to start but Jado and Gedo are knocked to the floor to start. Fale is fine enough to run Honma over though and the good guys are in trouble early. Honma is sent outside and Makabe gets taken into the corner with Jado standing on his chest. Gedo and Fale take Jado’s place but Makabe fights up and brings Nagat..

19 Women Announced For Royal Rumble, Including Impact Wrestling Knockout

There is most of the field. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start getting the fields put together. There are sixty slots to be filled and only a handful of names have already been announced. That can make for some interesting announcements and we got a ton of them all in a row, including more than one Hall of Famer, and a big surprise. This week on SmackDown, Charlotte announced nineteen entrants for the women’s Royal Rumble match: Rhea Ripley Nikki Ash Nikki Bella Brie Bella Shotzi Natalya Michelle McCool Dana Brooke Carmella Queen Zelina Mickie James Tamina Kelly Kelly Aliyah Summer Rae Naomi Shayna Baszler Lita Charlotte The Bella Twins and Lita are all retired and have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. James is currently the reigning Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion, which was acknowledged by commentary. Charlotte will be the first reigning champion to enter the Women’s Royal Rumble. There is no word on if any other entr..

New Japan Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night One Results

Wrestle Kingdom XVI Night One Date: January 4, 2022 Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan Attendance: 12,047 Commentators: Chris Charlton, Kevin Kelly It’s back to Japan for the first time in about a year, though the company does feel a good bit colder this time around. The pandemic and a slew of injuries have battered New Japan, but this show’s reputation is more than enough to warrant a look. The main event of this first night is Kazuchika Okada challenging Shingo Takagi for the IWGP World Title, with the winner facing Will Ospreay tomorrow night. Let’s get to it. Note that I do not regularly follow New Japan so I won’t know much in the way of storylines or recent character development. Please bear with me if I miss something that commentary does not explain. Pre-Show: New Japan Ranbo This is a 19 man Royal Rumble and over the top/pinfall/submission eliminations with one minute intervals. The final four advancing to a four way on night two for the Provisional King Of Pro Wrestling 2..

Several Important Names In Attendance At Last Week’s WWE SmackDown

Location, location, location. WWE SmackDown has been on the air for well over twenty two years now and the show has built up one heck of a reputation for itself. Ring of Honor TV Results – May 16, 2018

Ring of Honor Date: May 16, 2018 Location: Stage AE, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, BJ Whitmer This week should be a big deal with the Young Bucks getting a Tag Team Title shot against the Briscoes, which is about as high profile of a tag match as you’re going to see around here. It might be the biggest tag team match you can have and with a bigger stage, would be one of the featured matches on any major pay per view. Let’s get to it. Here are last week’s results if you need a recap. Opening sequence. Kelly Klein vs. Madison Rayne Madison tries to speed things up to start but can’t get a sunset flip. Instead it’s some clotheslines to put Madison in trouble and we take an early break. Back with Klein choking in the corner and yelling at the crowd a lot. Madison comes back with some forearms and a cutter for two but the Rayne Drop is broken up. A second attempt works just fine for two but Klein is right back with a Samoan drop. With that n..
