The Other Ring: Former WWE Star Makes Pro MMA Debut

It’s a different world. Wrestlers have a difficult time in being seen as legitimate athletes. They have to do some very athletic things and their efforts are anything but easy. At the same time though, it can be difficult to shake the stigma of their matches being pre-determined. Occasionally a wrestler will try their hand at another sport though, which was the case again this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Discusses Brock Lesnar Intercontinental Title Reign Former WWE star Jack Claffey, better known as Jack Gallagher, competed in his professional MMA debut this weekend. Claffey fought Marlon Jones at FCC 32 and was defeated via TKO in the first round, with the event airing on UFC Fight Pass. Claffey posted a photo of himself and Jones following the fight. Following the end of his wrestling career, Claffey has competed in bare knuckle boxing and amateur mixed martial arts, compiling a 1-0 and 2-0 record respectively. You might remember him. Check out Claffey in t..

Two Surprise Returns Take Place On NXT

Welcome back. There is something special about a wrestler making their return to the ring. You might know that someone is on their way back at some point in the future but the actual moment that they get back is a big deal. Sometimes they take you by surprise and now we have two new returns from the same night, albeit in completely different methods of coming back. Two returns took place this week on NXT. First up, Elektra Lopez made her return, attacking both Indi Hartwell and Sol Ruca after Hartwell defeated Ruca in a match. Lopez has not been seen since the August 23 episode of NXT. Later, Edris Enofe and Malik Blade were leaving the arena and ran into Odyssey Jones driving a truck full of women. Blade and Enofe left with Jones and the women following their loss to Pretty Deadly. Jones has been out of action since January with a knee injury. Opinion: That is the kind of night that you do not get to see very often and it was cool for two returns to take place in a two hour span. Lo..

Get Well Soon: Bad Injury Update On NXT Star

It can happen to anyone. As bad as it sounds, the reality is that injuries are one of the few universal problems for any wrestler. You never know when you might see someone get hurt and that is never a good thing to see. Unfortunately you can see someone get hurt at any time and they can be on the shelf for a good while. That is the case again, and now it is not sounding like the best news. This week on NXT, Vic Joseph announced that Odyssey Jones had suffered a ruptured patella tendon. Jones has already undergone surgery to repair the injury, which will put him out until the fall. The injury took place during a match on a recent 205 Live taping, which never aired. Jones’ most recent televised match took place the December 28, 2021 edition of NXT. Opinion: This is one of those things that happens on occasion, but it doesn’t make the situation any better. Above all else, what matters most is Jones getting back to full healthy. He was showing a lot of potential before he was put on the..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Injury Takes Place Before This Week’s NXT

That’s never good to hear. Injuries are one of the true constants in wrestling as any wrestler can be hurt at any time. There have been several in recent weeks, and now we have another one with a slightly bigger member of a roster. According to Wrestlingnews.co, fans in attendance have reported that Odyssey Jones was injured during a match for this week’s 205 Live. While the nature of his injury was not disclosed, the match included a “weird” finish and Jones was helped to the back. Jones’ most recent televised appearance took place on the December 28 edition of NXT, when he lost to Grayson Waller. Jones is quite the force. NXT Results – December 28, 2021

NXT Date: December 28, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett It’s time for one of those things that you don’t get to see very often in WWE, as we’re getting a contract signing between Carmelo Hayes and Roderick Strong. Other than that, odds are we’ll be hearing a lot more from Grayson Waller, because he is on this show as much as a Steve Austin Raw in 1998. Let’s get to it. Here is Grayson Waller to get things going. Waller flips around a lot and talks about having a great Christmas. This included flying himself to Detroit to Monday Night Raw, where he met AJ Styles. We see a clip of their showdown last night, before Waller talks about how he is supposed to face Dexter Lumis tonight. That isn’t going to happen, so he insults Indi Hartwell too. Cue the returning Odyssey Jones and we have a replacement match. Odyssey Jones vs. Grayson Waller Jones throws him around to start and then steps on Waller’s back. A big side slam give..

Several Important Names In Attendance At Last Week’s WWE SmackDown

Location, location, location. WWE SmackDown has been on the air for well over twenty two years now and the show has built up one heck of a reputation for itself. Above all else, the show has spent the last two plus years on the FOX network, which is as big of a wrestling television deal as it gets. People in the entertainment industry are paying a bit more attention to it as of late, and that was on display last week. According to Deadline.com, several entertainment executives and stars were in attendance for last week’s SmackDown in Los Angeles, California. Here is a list of the executives and television/film personalities who were at the show last week: • Kelly Kahl (President of CBS Entertainment) • Matt Cherniss (Head of Development and Programming at Apple) • Noah Harpster (Actor and Producer) • Barry Poznick, (President of MGM Studios) • Larry Jones (Executive Vice President of Fox Sports) • Vanessa Hudgens (Actor) • Jemele Hill (Sports Journalist) • Reggie Bush (Analyst for Fox..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – September 21, 2021

NXT Date: September 21, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett It’s time for NXT 2.0 2.0 as we are past the big debut last week. The show included a new NXT Champion in Tommaso Ciampa and the wedding between Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell. I’m not sure where we’re going from here but that’s what makes it fun. Allegedly. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of last week’s show. Opening sequence. A bunch of newcomers, including Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes and Odyssey Jones, are in the ring to start and here is new NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa. The fans are glad to see Ciampa as he talks about going 908 days between NXT Title reigns. Now he is here as YOUR NXT Champion and Ciampa tells Goldie that he missed it too. Ciampa turns around and hypes up all of the new stars around here before declaring himself Mr. NXT. You can put a new coat of paint on here but what matters most is the passion. That is what makes NXT..

The Shape Of The NXT Roster Was Shaken Up This Week

There are a few of them. One of the more interesting wrestling stories of the last few weeks has been the changes in and around NXT. Vince McMahon has not seemed happy with what has been going on in his developmental program and some adjustments have been made. There are even more of them to come, and some of the bigger ones might have taken place this week. Multiple members of the NXT roster had some sort of change during this week’s show. First of all, Danny Burch returned to television after injuring his shoulder in March. Burch returned to help Oney Lorcan attack Timothy Thatcher during Thatcher’s match against Ridge Holland, Burch and Lorcan’s former associate. It is not clear when Burch will return to the ring. Next, Carmelo Hayes defeated Odyssey Jones to win the second NXT Breakout Tournament. The win grants Hayes a future title shot against any champion, though he did not make his decision on which champion to challenge. Later in the show, Electra Lopez returned to NXT and a..

Two Surprising Names Take Part In SmackDown Dark Match

They’re the new and old generation. Like any other entertainment or sport, WWE needs to bring in some fresh blood from time to time. This might be a brand new wrestler or someone who has wrestled for them before but not in a long time. It can make for some nice changes of pace and WWE has been catching on to that as of late. They tried something else this week. According to 411mania.com Davey Boy Smith Jr., wrestling under his real name of Harry Smith, worked a dark match before this week’s SmackDown. Smith and NXT’s Austin Theory teamed together to face Daniel Vidot and Odyssey Jones in a tag team match. This comes after Smith appeared at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony earlier this year to induct his father. In the following weeks, there were discussions of bringing Smith back into the company. In an interview after the match, Smith said that he was back in WWE, though there is no word on him signing a new deal. Holy shit! pic.twitter.com/eMkAt56aDM — ?Adam Goldberg? (@adamgoldberg2..

New NXT Wrestlers Get Dark Match Tryouts Before SmackDown

Keep them moving. NXT has a weird role to play in the wrestling world as not only does it have its own television to worry about, but it also has to help create the next WWE stars of the future. That is a lot easier said than done, but it can be interesting to see an NXT star move up to the main roster. Now we might have an idea of some other names getting the chance to move up. According to PWInsider.com, NXT wrestlers worked more dark matches before this week’s edition of SmackDown. There were three matches this week, including: Shotzi Blackheart vs. Tony Storm Odyssey Jones vs. Robert Roode Karrion Kross vs. Cesaro This is the second time that Blackheart has worked a SmackDown dark match and the third for Kross. These matches are part of an effort by WWE to find talent ready to move up to potentially move up to the main roster later this year. While it has not been confirmed, the moves are rumored to be part of the 2021 WWE Draft, which will be held in the fall. There is some tal..

WWE “Legend” Getting His Own Video Game

Only in wrestling. There are certain people in wrestling who would probably not be anywhere near as big of a star elsewhere. Wrestling lends itself to tall tales and pure insanity at times, and some wrestlers have completely embraced this concept. When you see that take place, it can be incredibly interesting and one of the most fascinating of them all is getting some special treatment. Former WWE star Mike Jones, better known as Virgil, has announced that Meat Sauce Madness, a mobile game inspired by him, will be released on July 4. The game will feature Jones trying to make it to the main event, while eating beef and breadsticks. A portion of the proceeds of the game will be donated to malnourished families. Here is the official announcement of the game, courtesy of 411mania.com: On July 4, 2021, The Magen Group will be releasing Meatsauce Madness worldwide for play on all Apple and Android mobile devices. We hope you’re hungry! Inspired by his passion/obsession for Meatsauce and ..

Really Cool Video: WrestleMania By The Numbers

I always love this thing. No event in wrestling has the kind of history that WrestleMania holds. We’re coming up on the thirty fifth edition, which is going to be one of the biggest (certainly longest) of all time. There are other big shows throughout WWE’s history, including the Royal Rumble, which gets an annual history package based on the show’s numbers. Now it’s time for WrestleMania to follow suit. This is very cool. Check out WrestleMania By The Numbers: [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has released a video called WrestleMania By The Numbers, looking back at the show’s history with a series of numbers, including attendance, win/losses and appearances. The list includes entries from individual shows as well as over time. There is one number that is changed, with King Kong Bundy’s alleged eight second victory over SD Jones at the first WrestleMania being switched to a much more accurate twenty four second victory instead. Opinion: I could watch this kind of thing..

Daniel Cormier Says Brock Lesnar Bout Would Bring In Big Money

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is preparing to challenge UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic for the gold in the main event of UFC 226. DC wouldn’t mind a future fight with current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar because Cormier feels a bout between them would be a big money attraction. “That thing never happens unless I get past Stipe, but just hearing out loud was like, oh my goodness,” Cormier said to MMA Fighting. “Hey, I know that when I fight Jon Jones, I make a lot of money. I know that if I was to ever fight a Brock Lesnar, I’m going to make even more money than I’ve ever made in entire life. And ultimately, championships and money is why we do this. I don’t care for all the other stuff. I want to get paid. I’m almost 40, the door’s about to close on me, so why not ride out into the sunset with a massive payday? Truckloads of money. Back up Brinks truck to Gilroy, California if you fight Brock Lesnar, I’m telling you. He told me last time, right? When tha..
