Tis the season. We are less than six weeks away from WrestleMania 39 and that means it is time to start setting up the biggest weekend of the WWE’s year. This year’s show takes place in Los Angeles, California and just like last time, WWE is airing some parody movie trailers to tie into the Hollywood theme. This is the same ad campaign as WrestleMania 21 in 2005, which featured a series of parody movie trailers including WWE stars. Rampage Date: February 10, 2023 Location: County Coliseum, El Paso, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We are still in Texas with less than a month to go before Revolution. That should make for a few interesting weeks but this week’s lineup doesn’t exactly offer much in the way of hope. The Blackpool Combat Club is here though and that is one of the better things Rampage could do. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Blackpool Combat Club vs. Butcher and the Blade/Kip Sabian Sabian drives Yuta into the corner to start but a sunset flip gets Yuta out of trouble. Yuta is sent outside and Castagnoli comes in, with Butcher getting to come in as well for the power staredown. They yell at each other and slug it out, with both of them staggering. Moxley and then Yuta come in to take turns on Butcher as Jericho talks about the Impractical Jokers cast stealing his baseball bat. Fast One: Booker T. Reveals Surprising Detail About His WWE Royal Rumble Appearance
It was a last second situation. The Royal Rumble is one of the most unique WWE events of the year and will feature more wrestlers than any other show of the year. With two Royal Rumble matches on a single night, there are going to be sixty wrestlers spread out over two matches. That can lead to some difficulties in finding enough people, and this year it took until the very last minute. NXT Deadline Preview, Predictions And Thoughts
It isn’t often that NXT tries something entirely new but that seems to be what we are getting here. The show has five matches and two of them are the first ever Iron Survivor Challenges (one each for the men and the women). That means the show is going to be built around those two matches and if they work, NXT should be doing just fine. Otherwise, it could be a long night. Let’s get to it. Alba Fyre vs. Isla Dawn So this is fire vs. magic? I’m sure there’s some gaming joke in there that I’m not smart enough to make but at least we’re getting some fresh blood featured here. Fyre is someone who feels like she should have been a bigger star a long time ago while Dawn is brand new and has already made something of an impact. This should be a good fight, though I’m not sure how it is going to go. Ric Flair Blasts Fellow WWE Hall Of Famer, “What A Joke!”
Can’t they all just get along? There have been all kinds of stars throughout the history of WWE, with only a small handful reaching the top of the company. It means a lot to see one of those stars becoming all time legends, meaning they are remembered long after they hang up their boots. At the same time though, not all legends get along and that is the case again, with one having something to say about the other. WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair took to Twitter this week to bash fell Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield for his history of bullying accusations. Flair said that WWE’s anti-bullying campaign must not apply to Layfield, with Flair naming Joey Styles and “Jason” Roberts (presumably Justin Roberts, who accused Layfield of bullying) as former victims. An Interesting Goal: How Bryan Danielson Tried To Get Fired From WWE
He had a reason. There have been very few success stories in wrestling like that of Bryan Danielson. Just looking at him, there is little reason to believe that he would become a star. That is just what Danielson has done though, as he has become one of the most successful names in wrestling history. There were some darker times to his career though, and now he has revealed a rather interesting story. Danielson appeared on the Sessions podcast during Starrcast over the weekend and revealed that he was actively trying to get fired from WWE while appearing on Talking Smack. This would include various innuendos and jokes that he was told not to make, including about James Ellsworth’s anatomy. Danielson appeared on the show during his retirement from WWE due to a series of injuries which kept him from wrestling. Those Two: WWE Teases Starting New Feud Between Surprising Pair
It’s a way to go. Mainstream athletes have a long history in wrestling and that shouldn’t be a surprise. They are able to bring a different dimension into the wrestling world because fans will want to see what happens when those worlds collide. There have been some instances of stars from other sports coming into wrestling and having quite the success and that might be the case again soon. This week on SmackDown, Happy Corbin was defeated by Madcap Moss in a Last Laugh match, seemingly ending their feud. Following their match, Corbin yelled at broadcaster Pat McAfee over jokes that McAfee had made at his expense. McAfee then led the fans in a chorus of laughter at Corbin, who walked away without getting physical. Corbin and McAfee have a history together, as they were roommates during their time in the NFL. Update On Charlotte’s Upcoming Return To WWE TV
Not just yet. There are a lot of wrestlers in the world and some of them wind up together as a wrestling couple. It makes sense that two wrestlers would get together as it means both will understand the insanity that comes with the wrestling business. That is the case at the moment with a WWE and AEW star, though in this case, what one of them is doing is not the same as the other. Earlier this week on AEW Dynamite, Andrade El Idolo made his return after a month and a half long absence, appearing in the Joker’s Wild battle royal. This came after El Idolo took time off to get married to WWE’s Charlotte, which sparked speculation that Charlotte could be ready to return as well. However, according to PWInsider.com, Charlotte is not currently scheduled for this week’s SmackDown. It is not known when Charlotte will return to the ring. I Remember Him: AEW Star Makes Surprise Return On Dynamite
Welcome back. A return can be one of the most exciting things in wrestling, especially if it is one that you aren’t expecting. It can be a lot of fun to see someone pop up out of nowhere after a long time, but there is also something great about it happening after only a few weeks. That was the case this week, as a star made a return in a fairly big spot after being gone for a bit. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a Casino Battle Royal as part of the series of matches to crown a new Interim World Champion. As usual, the match included twenty one entrants, with the final being the Joker. Andrade El Idolo made his return as the Joker, but did not win the match, which was won by Kyle O’Reilly. This was El Idolo’s first match in AEW since April 20, when he lost to Darby Allin in a Coffin match. Opinion: This was a nice surprise, though not exactly earth shattering. Sometimes you need a change. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestler with one gimmick after another. Some of these are ideas that you have seem more than once over the years but that is not a terrible thing. Sometimes you might need to see a change of some sort. That seems to be the case again as a WWE star has changed up the way they are presented. This week’s edition of SmackDown featured the return of Madcap Moss after a three week absence, following Happy Corbin attacking him. Moss returned and said he was no longer telling jokes but rather here to get revenge on Corbin. A New Look: WWE Announces SmackDown Return And Teases Gimmick Change
Welcome back. There are a lot of people on the WWE roster and some of them get to stand out more than others. You can often tell when WWE is interested in pushing someone at a high level and that can make for some interesting moments. It can be interesting to see how the company puts together a push for the person and now we might be seeing that again next week. On the May 13 SmackDown, Happy Corbin attacked Madcap Moss and Pillmanized his throat with a chair. Moss has not appeared on WWE TV since, but his return was announced this week on SmackDown. WWE announced that Moss will be returning next week, with Moss including a tweet saying that he was coming back with no jokes or cap but rather to beat up Corbin. Maybe later? There are a lot of wrestlers who move in and out of the AEW locker room. The company has brought together all kinds of stars from present and past days, making quite the mixture of available names. Sometimes they need to bring in some fresh stars, but that is not going to be the case at the moment, as it seems a recent appearance was a one off. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Johnny Elite (Morrison/Nitro) appear as the Joker in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Elite lost to Samoa Joe in the first round in his AEW debut.
