WWE has issued the following press release, announcing the 2023 King and Queen of the Ring event: The General Entertainment Authority, in cooperation with WWE, has announced that WWE King and Queen Of The Ring will be held at the Jeddah Superdome, the world’s largest pillarless Superdome, on Saturday, May 27, 2023. WWE King and Queen Of The Ring is happening in Jeddah, alongside a host of additional exciting events happening in Jeddah throughout the year. This marks the first King Of The Ring Premium Live Event to be held since 2015 and the first crowning of a Queen since the inaugural Queen’s Crown Tournament which took place at WWE Crown Jewel in Riyadh in 2021. AEW only runs four regular pay per view events in any given year so they have to make the most they can out of every show. The more we know. Tuesday night, Ring Of Honor Hall Of Famer and reigning Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe was killed in a car crash in his home state of Delaware. The crash rocked the wrestling world and now all that can be done is grieve and hope that everyone else involved pulls through. Now we know a little bit more about what happened and it is not good. Briscoe’s death was caused by a car crash when a truck went into the wrong land and hit Briscoe’s truck head on. The other driver, Lillyanne Ternahan, 27, was killed as well. Briscoe was not wearing a seat belt while Ternahan was. Briscoe’s daughters were in the truck with him and were wearing seat belts. There is no word on any possible alcohol involvement in the crash. People are excited. WWE issued a press release today, stating that they have broken the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania, despite having yet to announce a single match. The previous record announced was $17.3 million in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. From the press release: The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demand for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all-time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules. He wants back in. The biggest wrestling story in a busy 2022 was the retirement of Vince McMahon from WWE. After nearly forty years in charge of the company, McMahon retired amid an internal investigation over a series of payments but still remained the company’s majority owner. However, now something else has chanced and we could be in for something very different. And so, it grows. We are less than a week away from AEW Full Gear and normally that would mean the card is all but set. However, that is not the case with this show as there are several wrestlers who have nothing to do for the show so far. AEW has a tendency to make some matches at the last minute and now they are adding some more matches to the show’s card. There were two more matches added to the Full Gear card this week on AEW Dynamite. First up, Death Triangle issued a challenge to an unnamed team for a Trios Titles match, with the Elite being announced as the challenges. Also on the show, a three way brawl broke out between TNT Champion Wardlow, Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs. There it goes. WWE offers several annual traditions, many of which involve championships and shots at them. There are ways to earn a guaranteed title shot at some point down the line, but there is one that lets the challenger choose their shot whenever the feel like it. That was the case this week, but it was in a completely different way than it has ever been done before. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins issued an open challenge for a shot at the United States Title. Before the match, Bobby Lashley came to the ring and attacked Rollins, putting him through the announcers’ table. Mr. Money In The Bank Austin Theory came to the ring and cashed in his briefcase for a title shot against Rollins. Theory went on to lose the title shot after Lashley interfered. We have some very sad news to report today as Kevin Nash’s son, Tristen, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported the news and issued the following statement: “On behalf of Kevin and Tamara Nash, I have to unfortunately report that their son Tristen Nash has tragically passed away at the age of 26. Three on each side. We are coming up on one of the biggest WWE shows of the year with November 5’s Crown Jewel. The show will be taking place in Saudi Arabia as part of WWE’s working relationship with the kingdom. The events often feature major stars in showdowns, some of which have been built up for white awhile. Now another match has been set up for the show, featuring quite a bit of star power. This week on Monday Night Raw, a six man tag was announced for Crown Jewel, featuring AJ Styles and the OC against Judgment Day. The feud started last week when the OC returned to help Styles fight against Judgment Day after several weeks. As a result, Judgment Day issued the challenge, with Styles accepting for the team. He’d take a call. There have been a lot of returns to WWE over the last few months and a lot of that has been credited to the new regime in charge of the company. As a result of Vince McMahon losing power in the company, some wrestlers who have left the company have been willing to consider a return. Now another company might be interested should the right offer come up. During a new interview with Metro, Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder during his time in WWE, said that while he does not want to return to WWE, he would be willing to take a phone call. Cardona said that right now, he is focused on having the most fun and making the most money possible. However, he does want to wrestle in Madison Square Garden again and have another WrestleMania moment. In addition, Cardona issued a statement to Wrestling Inc., saying that he was busy with other projects but was “Alwayz Ready” for any opportunity. That is pretty cut and dry. Over the last three plus years, AEW has gone from an idea to the second biggest wrestling company in the world. As a result, there are now several more spots available for wrestlers to show what they can do on a bigger stage. This certainly has its advantages, but it does not mean that everyone on the roster is pleased. Now management is taking some steps to keep people around. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW President Tony Khan has issued a new edict saying “nobody’s getting released”. This comes amid rumors of WWE contacting several AEW wrestlers with the hopes of them requesting their releases and coming back to WWE. Rumored names include Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews, though Black has denied the rumors. Opinion: This is a tricky one as while the wrestlers do want out of AEW, they also signed contracts saying that they would be around.
