That’s a scary ending. There are all kinds of ways to build up sympathy for a wrestler, all of which can be used for a big moment later. Some of them can be more serious than others, but the question becomes what happens after the initial moment. After dozens of wrestlers were released from the company over the last two years, all kinds of them are being brought back. In a new update, Valerie has announced that Billy is no longer in the ICU as his heart rate and blood pressure are strong enough to be moved to the PCU (progressive care unit). That’s rather serious. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know how bad something is going to be at first. Then comes the waiting, as you have nothing else to do but see just how long someone is going to be out of action. Sometimes that can be for a good while and in worse cases, it can be indefinite. Unfortunately an all time legend is dealing with the latter. Back in May, Randy Orton left WWE TV to deal with a back injury and has not been seen since. According to Fightful Select, Orton underwent some sort of back fusion surgery at some point this year. WWE sources have reportedly said that the company will be lucky to have Orton back after his recovery. However, when he was initially injured, Orton said that he would be back at some point. After an inspired performance against Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel, Logan Paul gained a lot of notoriety from the greater wrestling community. Even with no real expectations that he would have defeated Roman Reigns, the consensus is Logan Paul stepped up to the moment in Saudi Arabia. The performance would have catapulted Logan Paul into something big for Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble or even WrestleMania 39. He’s not a favorite. There have been a lot of stories taking place throughout the wrestling world this year and some of them feel like they could drag on for a good while. That is the case with the set of issues involving CM Punk and AEW, many of which involved statements made by Punk. The situation has caused quite the set of issues all over the company and now it has caused a change of reality behind the scenes. It has been a summer of change in WWE, as the company has been shaken up in more ways than anyone would have believed to be possible. Vince McMahon finally (ahem) retired from the company and that means it is time to start filling in the power vacuum left behind. That’s a long time. There are all kinds of injuries that a wrestler can suffer and some of them are a lot more serious than others. You never know how long someone is going to be out of action, but you can have a good guess of just how bad something might be. Unfortunately that is the case again, as a top WWE star is injured and could be out for a long time. Over the weekend, Becky Lynch suffered a shoulder injury during her Summerslam match with Bianca Belair. The injury was later announced as a separated shoulder, which Lynch confirmed this week on Monday Night Raw. During the same show, Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai attacked Lynch with a chair to the shoulder. WWE has sent since out a tweet, announcing that as a result of the initial injury and attack, Lynch will be out for “several months”. There is no word on when she will return to the ring. Welcome back. There are a lot of ways to set up a feud between wrestlers and one of the best can be to have someone betray their friend. It sets up a personal rivalry that people can understand and works well most of the time. The initial betrayal can set up a big moment down the line, and that big moment took place this week, with another moment following. Back in June, Christian Cage turned on Jungle Boy and laid him out before siding with Luchasaurus a week later. This week on Dynamite, Cage and Luchasaurus won a tag match, with Jungle Boy returning after the match. Luchasaurus sided with Jungle Boy, who chased Cage out of the arena with a chair. There is currently no word on a match between Cage and Jungle Boy in the future. o Opinion: This is the kind of thing that can set up more than a few interesting possible matches. That’s not good. WWE has been trying to bring in a variety of new stars to bolster its roster, both for the present and the future. A lot of this has been through the Next In Line (NIL) program, as WWE has been able to sign college athletes to name, image and likeness deals. Those names have not appeared on WWE programming to date, though one of them seems less likely to appear ever. Accord to the O’Colly (Oklahoma State University’s student newspaper), WWE NIL signee AJ Ferrari has been removed from the Oklahoma State wrestling team amid an investigation of sexual assault. Ferrari, who has currently not been charged with any crime, was part of the initial NIL class in 2021 and has not wrestled for WWE. The company has not responded to the investigation. Opinion: That is a very serious allegation and it would not surprise me at all to see Ferrari dropped by WWE as a result. I picked a heck of a week to do a column in advance last week because everything went haywire. Ignoring the whole Jeff Hardy fiasco (which seems like something that is far from over), there was the crazy shakeup at WWE. There were changed made in the last week or so that would have seemed unthinkable not so long ago but now have come to be a reality. That’s what we are going to be looking at this week (shocking I know), plus one bit of fallout that might make things all the worse, at least for fans. So as you probably know, WWE is officially investigating Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis for an affair with a WWE employee. McMahon reportedly paid to keep her quiet, as well as raised her salary when the affair began before passing her to Laurinaitis “like a toy”.
