It’s a new way to go. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the 2023 Royal Rumble event was said to have been the “easiest” that it’s has been in a long time, with regard to putting the show together. This is due to the lack of creative involvement from Vince McMahon. This year’s Royal Rumble was the first under Triple H and the report states that there was a good feeling about the show in the end, including the morale among talent. Furthermore, it was said that from a day-to-day and weekly basis, the atmosphere is much more laid back. One of the only reminders of Vince’s influence remains the “Vince’s office” directional sign that hasn’t been changed since he left but points to a section of the backstage area that is completely different. Vince has been notorious for changing things at the last minute and creating a sense of chaos and unease right before a show goes on the air. The report further states that the process of the Rumble itself was the easiest in a long..
They have reason to be. Earlier this week, WWE presented the Raw XXX special, marking thirty years of Monday Night Raw. The show featured a variety of legends and huge matches, along with several special appearances. As a result, the show was one of the biggest that WWE has presented on free television in a long time. A few days later, we know a bit more about how it was received. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Run It Back: WWE Sets Wheels In Motion To Reunite Successful Stable According to Fightful Select, “people of influence” within the company were very happy with how the show went. The show set a new record for the highest domestic gate in the history of Monday Night Raw, with the television viewership and ratings being the highest since 2020. There is no word on what parts of the show were the most well received compared to others. The show was a big deal. He’s back. The WWE world has changed in several ways in the last few days and those changes might not be ending anytime soon. Most of the changes revolve around the return of Vince McMahon, who is now back in his seat as Chairman of the Board, but the question is what will he do with regards to the creative side of WWE. We don’t know that yet, but his influence is already spreading. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: There She Goes: Former WWE Star Officially Announces Retirement From Wrestling According to Fightful Select, there are rumors that since McMahon’s return to WWE, he has already been sending messages to various departments telling them that they are doing things wrong. There was no mention of which departments or what they were doing, or if McMahon is planning on making any changes. McMahon has yet to make an appearance on WWE TV and is reportedly only working on selling the company. There have been some blunders in WWE over the years. Check out some of them: [This post contains vi..
He wouldn’t be welcome. The biggest AEW star of the year has been the AEW backstage brawl after All Out. The incident led to a series of suspensions and changed all kinds of storylines for the company at the same time. That is the kind of thing you do not see very often and it seems that one star will not be back in the company anytime soon. As it turns out, that might not be the most unpopular decision. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Would Know: Sting Reveals (Some) Plans For His Final Match CM Punk was involved in the backstage brawl and has not returned to AEW television since. While Punk is out of action recovering from tricep surgery, there is little to suggest that he will be returning to AEW after he is healed up. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, several “top guy”, with Chris Jericho being named, have said they will make sure Punk does not return to AEW. There is no word on how they will influence Tony Khan, but Punk will not be available until the spring of 2023 at ..
It’s a rough job. There are all kinds of people who have to come together to make a WWE show work and a lot of them don’t even get in the ring. Some of the people are there as a representative of the company as a way to make sure things go well. Now one of them is talking about his former position and how it did not exactly go as well as he had been hoping. During the latest edition of his ARN podcast, former WWE producer Arn Anderson spoke about his time in the role. Anderson said that he actually hated the job, as he was only involved in the finish of the match. If the rest of the match did not go well, he would get blamed by Vince McMahon. The job would have been easier if he had more authority of the match, as it would have kept him from taking so much blame for so little influence. Anderson also described himself as a “scapegoat” for any problems that came up during matches he produced, even if he had little to do with it. Anderson worked for WWE from 2001-2019. Opinion: This is..
She’s #1! One of the most common things that you see among wrestling fans is a discussion of the best wrestlers. At one point or another, every fan has debated something about wrestling, often over who the best is at any given thing. You occasionally get something official, or in this case something close to it, as a wrestler has won a rather prestigious award. Pro Wrestling Illustrated has released its annual PWI Women’s 150, ranking the top 150 female wrestlers in the world over the period of October 1, 2021 – September 30, 2022. the award is based on a mixture of success, influence, in-ring ability, competition and more. The list has been released since 2008 and this is the first time that a woman from a non-North American promotion has ranked #1. Here is the top ten: 1. Syuri (Stardom) 2. Bianca Belair (WWE) 3. Thunder Rosa (AEW) 4. Becky Lynch (WWE) 5. Jade Cargill (AEW) 6. Jordynne Grace (Impact Wrestling) 7. Saya Kamitani (Stardom) 8. Charlotte Flair (WWE) 9. Starlight Kid (St..
Maybe not? There have been a lot of important news stories taking place in the wrestling world this year but very few of them have been discussed as much as CM Punk’s rant at the AEW All Out media scrum. Punk has not yet returned to AEW TV and there is a chance that he never will. Should he leave AEW, there is only one other major place he would likely go, but that might not be so easy. Earlier this week, a story surfaced suggesting that AEW was working on a possible contract buyout for Punk, which would eventually free him up for a possible return to WWE. However, according to PWTorch.com by way of Wrestlinginc.com, while Triple H would be willing to allow Punk to return, there is at least one person in Triple H’s “sphere of influence” of “decision-making” that would be a hard No on a Punk return. There is no word on when Punk might be able to return to WWE, assuming his AEW contract is bought out. Opinion: While Punk leaving AEW immediately brought up discussions of a return to WWE..
That takes something special. In the history of professional wrestling, there has never been anyone as powerful as Vince McMahon and there likely never will be again. McMahon ran the most dominant wrestling promotion in the world for several years and was the biggest influence on wrestling for a very long time. It was rare to see him admit a mistake, but we do know at least one time when he did so. In his new book “There’s Just One Problem…: True Tales from the Former, One-Time, 7th Most Powerful Person in WWE”, former WWE writer Brian Gerwitz told a story of McMahon rehiring Vince Russo as a member of the creative team in 2002. After hearing Russo talk about his ideas, McMahon apologized to the team and reportedly said “This isn’t going to work…I’m sorry I brought that a****** back.” Russo’s return to the company lasted less than a month before he signed with NWA-TNA. Opinion: McMahon is known to do a lot of things, but apologize is rarely one of them. It takes a lot for him to beli..
She’s a fan. There are certain people in WWE who are just bigger stars than others. They are some of the bigger names who can do things that others can’t and as a result, those people have more influence. It can help a lot to see what they might want to do and in some situations, WWE will even listen. That might be what is happening again with a current top name. WWE’s Ronda Rousey recently appeared on the Baddest Stream On The Planet, where she was asked which WWE star should get a bigger push. Rousey said that Shayna Baszler should get a bigger chance, saying she was one of the best people on the show and that she needs “them to get their s*** together and realize it”. Rousey and Baszler are part of the Four Horsewomen and have trained together in WWE. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Rousey and Baszler have been friends for a very long time now. The two of them are from a similar background and it would make sense for Rousey to want someone like Baszler to receive a pus..
That’s some good news. Jeff Hardy has not been seen on AEW television since June when he was arrested for a number of violations, including driving under the influence. However, it looks like we may be seeing him sooner rather than later. According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hardy is expected to be out of rehab soon, and back inside the ring. It is unknown exactly when this will be happening. Due to his arrest, Tony Khan suspended Hardy without pay on June 14 of this year. Hardy was mentioned on AEW television this past week by his brother Matt, in a promo setting up a match with Darby Allin. Editor’s Opinion: This is excellent news for everyone involved, and I’m glad he is getting the help that he needs. Despite his age, he is still one of the most exciting performers in the company, and fans always looking forward to seeing him on television. I hope that we see him back sooner rather than later and that he gets to do what he does best! “GET EXCLUS..
Smackdown Date: July 29, 2022 Location: State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee This is going to be a weird one as it’s the go home show for Summerslam so there won’t be much in the way of moving forward to the show, but there is a #1 contenders match for the next major show. At the same time, this is the first television show with no influence from Vince McMahon following his departure from the company. Let’s get to it. Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre Donnybrook match, meaning street fight, and the winner gets a World Title shot at Clash At The Castle. Sheamus jumps McIntyre during his entrance and they start fast with McIntyre being thrown inside for the opening bell. A Michinoku Driver gets McIntyre out of trouble and it’s time for the Shillelagh. That doesn’t work yet so McIntyre grabs a table, only to be sent into the steps (near the makeshift bar). They get back inside with Sheamus whipping out the cut Shillelagh from last week to beat on McIntyre e..
You can already feel it. Earlier this week, Vince McMahon officially retired from WWE, meaning that we are entering into a brand new era in the company. This could be quite the change of pace and there is no way of knowing just how things are going to go. One of the biggest changes is going to be the lack of McMahon influence on the product and some of those changes have already started taking place. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there were multiple changes made during this week’s SmackDown, the first show without McMahon in charge. Some of these included New Day mentioning Ring Of Honor and the IWGP Tag Team Titles, as well as Michael Cole referring to “the WWE fans”. There is no word on other changes that might be made, but the lack of McMahon talking to the commentators throughout the show could cause more to take place. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be rather interesting. There are going to be a lot of changes to WWE in the big picture, but the smaller on..
It actually happened. There is no one in the history of wrestling as powerful as Vince McMahon. Whether you like him or not, McMahon has been the force in wrestling for well over twenty years now and anything he says or does can change the industry as a whole. No one has ever had his kind of power or influence, but now two people are going to have to try. On Friday afternoon, McMahon announced that he is officially retiring as Chairman and CEO of WWE. McMahon said that at 77 years old, it was time for him to go. He also announced that Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan will be co-CEO, with Stephanie serving as Chairwoman. Vince will still be the majority stockholder in WWE, though there is no word on what this means for his status as head of creative. This comes amid an investigation into Vince over hush money payments for a series of alleged affairs with various women in WWE. At 77, time for me to retire. Thank you, WWE Universe. Then. Now. Forever. Together. #WWE #thankful — Vince ..
It was a busy night. Titles are the easiest concept in wrestling because anyone gets the idea of someone wearing a shiny belt. You can easily figure out the idea and it is a simple match to set up: someone has a title and someone else wants it. That makes title changes some of the most important parts of a wrestling promotion and there were quite a few of them this weekend. Impact Wrestling held their Slammiversary pay per view over the weekend, marking the company’s twentieth anniversary. There were five title matches on the show with four titles changing hands. Here are the title changes: Mike Bailey won the X-Division Title in a six man Ultimate X match Rosemary/Taya Valkyrie defeated the Influence to win the Knockouts Tag Team Titles The Good Brothers defeated the Briscoes to regain the Tag Team Titles Jordynne Grace won the Knockouts Title in the first ever Queen of the Mountain match Impact Wrestling World Champion Josh Alexander retained his title over Eric Young in the main e..
There’s the fallout. There is no one as powerful in the wrestling world as Vince McMahon. He has run the largest wrestling promotion in the world for about forty years now and no one is close to his level of influence. However, there are some things that can slow McMahon down and now we are one of the biggest imaginable, as McMahon has lost quite a bit of power. Earlier this week, WWE announced that McMahon was under an internal investigation for an alleged affair with a WWE employee. The affair saw McMahon pay the woman $3 million to keep the story quiet, along with possibly doubling her salary once the affair began. On Friday, WWE announced that McMahon will be stepping away from his duties as CEO and Chairman of the Board, with his daughter Stephanie taking over until the end of the investigation. Vince will still maintain his creative duties with WWE. Opinion: That’s about as big of a bombshell as you could get, as the idea of Vince not being in charge is one of the most hard to ..
Dynamite Date: June 15, 2022 Location: Chaifetz Arena, St. Louis, Missouri Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone The road to Forbidden Door continues and as has been the case with AEW in recent weeks, things have gotten a little bit screwy. This time around it is Jeff Hardy getting arrested for driving under the influence, meaning that he will not be around for this week’s Tag Team Title match. Hopefully this doesn’t throw the show into chaos so let’s get to it. Chris Jericho vs. Ortiz Hair vs. hair, the Jericho Appreciation Society and Eddie Kingston are here, and William Regal is on commentary. Ortiz charges in and knocks Jericho to the floor for some biting of the face. Jericho takes over outside and hammers away inside, only to have Ortiz get in some shots of his own. The suicide dive is broken up though and Jericho hits a suplex off the apron to the floor as we take a break. Back with Ortiz clotheslining his way out of trouble and hitting a quick cutter. Jericho rol..
That’s a rough one to watch. While he is certainly a very talented wrestler, Jeff Hardy also has some issues outside the ring. Unfortunately some of these are legal issues which have caused him several problems over the years. The problems have flared up again this week, and now we can see just how bad things got, even in a situation that was already bad in the first place. Earlier this week, Hardy was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and other issues. Since then, TMZ have released the dashboard video from the police car, showing three police officers pulling their guns on Hardy for not obeying their orders to exit his car. The officers then remove Hardy from the car and have him sit down, where they interview him about his driving. Hardy said that he was on his way to the doctor for a “brain scan”, which he could not explain. The video ends with Hardy undergoing field sobriety tests and being handcuffed. Hardy has since been suspended from AEW as a result of the arr..
It had been previously reported that Jeff Hardy was recently arrested in Volusia County, Florida, on charges of driving on a suspended license, violating restrictions placed on a driver’s license, and driving under the influence. Tony Khan has released the following statement regarding Hardy’s status with AEW: “We were able to resume contact with Jeff Hardy this afternoon. AEW does not condone Jeff’s alleged behavior. We’ve made it clear to Jeff that we’ll assist him in getting treatment for substance abuse issues, which he has indicated that he’s open to receiving. In the interim, he is suspended without pay, and he can only return to AEW upon successfully completing treatment and maintaining his sobriety,” Khan’s statement said. “If you or a loved one needs help, please reach out to SAMHSA’s National Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357).” pic.twitter.com/pDJA55cyaN — Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) June 14, 2022 Unfortunately, this is not the first time this type of offense has occurred; Hard..
