REVIEW: Fastlane 2017: At Least It Isn’t Slow

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Fastlane 2017 Date: March 5, 2017 Location: Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Commentators: Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves It’s the final show before Wrestlemania XXXIII and it’s fairly clear that this is just a way to fill in time before Orlando. The main event is Kevin Owens defending the Universal Title against Goldberg, which has a serious chance of being a squash. Of course it also has the chance of Chris Jericho interfering and costing his former friend the title. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Noa..

VIDEO: WWE And AEW Star Get Together In Unique Situation

When worlds collide. The wrestling world has changed quite a bit thanks to the rise of AEW. The new promotion has shaken up the industry by adding a new place for all kinds of wrestlers to showcase themselves. That has not been the case for a very long time now and several wrestlers have already jumped over to the new place. A wrestler from both companies came together for a pretty unique moment. WWE’s John Cena and AEW’s Miro were both in attendance for the premiere of The Suicide Squad. Cena, a co-star of the movie, appeared in the full costume of his Peacekeeper character, hugged Miro and introduced him to his wife. The two chatted for a few moments about something that could not be heard. Cena returned to WWE last month at Money in the Bank and Miro, the reigning AEW TNT Champion, debuted with the company in September 2020. Miro and Cena had a long feud in WWE, with Miro defeating Cena in a United States Title match at Fastlane 2015. Cena came back to win the rematch at WrestleMa..

New Grudge Match Set For Hell In A Cell

Put it on the card. We are less than a week away from WWE’s next pay per view offering with Hell In A Cell but the card still has quite a few holes to fill. Coming into this week’s Monday Night Raw, there were only four matches set for the show from Monday Night Raw and SmackDown combined. That leaves a few places to go, and now one of the slots has been filled in. This week on Monday Night Raw, a match between Shayna Baszler and Alexa Bliss was added to Hell in a Cell. The match comes after Bliss and her doll Lily have been tormenting Baszler in recent weeks. Baszler did not appear on the show, but her friend Nia Jax confronted Bliss, who agreed to the match. Bliss defeated Jax on Monday Night Raw in her first match since Fastlane, and her first competitive match since February 1. Bliss and Baszler have had some history. Check out how we got here: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opin..

WWE RUMOR: Top Star Expected To Turn Soon

He can do that too. One of the more common criticisms that you will see about wrestling today is that there is too much content. It can be great to see how much wrestling there is today, but at the same time, it means that you can see some wrestlers a little more often than others. At some point you need to see someone get changed up a bit, just for the sake of having something fresh. That might be the case again in the near future. According to Jon Alba on the Living The Gimmick podcast, Edge is expected to return to WWE as a babyface, including for his match at Summerslam in August. Edge is scheduled to return to WWE on the July 18 SmackDown in Houston, Texas, which will be the first WWE show featuring a full capacity of fans since March 2020. Edge turned heel earlier this year at Fastlane by attacking Daniel Bryan. Reported on @theLTGpodcast Patreon this week Edge is currently penciled in for the SummerSlam card as a babyface on the Smackdown side. Seems to give credence to that. ..

Extra Details About WrestleMania 37 Main Event

It’s one of the big ones. We are now a few days removed from WrestleMania 37 and that means it is time to both look forward but also discuss WrestleMania in quite a high level of details. There was a lot of material to cover from the show and that is not a bad thing whatsoever. As usual, the main event was the part of the show that is going to get the most attention and now we have a bit more on the match. The main event of the second night of WrestleMania 37 saw Universal Champion Roman Reigns successfully defending the title against both Daniel Bryan and Edge. The match had been set up for several weeks now with Edge winning the Royal Rumble and then costing Bryan his shot against Reigns at Fastlane. That set up several stories for WrestleMania and it took more than one person to make those stories work. According to Fightful Select, Paul Heyman played a huge role in setting the match up, as he does with most of Reigns’ matches. Reigns was always the planned winner for the match an..

Write It Down: Grudge Match Added To Fastlane Card

Add it to the card. We are less than six days away from Fastlane, though I’m not sure how much you would know that from watching WWE TV. The company has gone all out in building towards WrestleMania and seems to have completely forgotten that Fastlane is happening as well. They have to build something though and they worked on that during this week’s show. There are a lot of different ways to set up a feud in wrestling. Some of these are a bit more personal than others though and that opens up a series of doors of its own. With so many options available, it can be difficult to find the one that works best. Some of them are only going to leave some people scratching their heads though, and that might be the case with a new Fastlane match. This week on Monday Night Raw, a match between Braun Strowman and Shane McMahon was announced for Fastlane. The match was scheduled to take place during this week’s Monday Night Raw but a brawl took place before the match could start. McMahon has spe..

Major Grudge Match Added To WWE Fastlane

The card grows. We are on the Road To WrestleMania but there is another spot to cover on the way there. That would be Fastlane, though WWE has not exactly gone out of its way to build up the card. With less than a week before the show, there was not a single Monday Night Raw match announced for the card. They helped fix that in a big way during this week’s show. One of the biggest feuds on Monday Night Raw at the moment has been the rivalry between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. The two had been friends for twenty years but Sheamus turned on McIntyre for the chance to become WWE Champion again. This led to a pair of hard hitting, violent matches, the most recent of which ended in a draw. Now we have a chance to continue things. This week on Monday Night Raw, McIntyre mentioned that he was facing Sheamus at Fastlane. This will mark their third match in less than a month with McIntyre winning the first and the second going to a draw when the two of them hit each other in the face with the ..

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – March 15, 2021

Monday Night Raw Date: March 15, 2021 Location: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida Commentators: Tom Phillips, Samoa Joe, Byron Saxton It’s the go home show for Fastlane, which is such an important show that it doesn’t actually have any raw matches announced yet. Odds are that is fixed tonight, but it doesn’t hide the fact that even WWE doesn’t care about the thing. This should be an eventful one so let’s get to it. They don’t waste time by announcing Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Title at Wrestlemania. Here are Bobby Lashley and MVP for a chat to get things going. MVP says we are now in the Almighty Era and Lashley promises to destroy McIntyre at Wrestlemania. Lashley: “Right now are in the….Almighty Era.” And that’s why MVP handles most of the talking. Cue Miz and John Morrison with Miz praising Lashley’s speech and saying they are all in on the Almighty Era. They think Miz should be in the title match at Wrestlemania because Miz defended the title twice in one..

Title Time: First Match Officially Set For WWE Fastlane

It’s about time. Despite having less than six weeks away from WrestleMania 37, WWE has another pay per view to come first. That could make for an interesting situation, as despite the show being less than three weeks away, nothing has actually been announced yet. WWE is still spending most of their time setting up WrestleMania, but now they do have a title match set. The Women’s Tag Team Titles have been in a weird place throughout their just over two year long history. There are only so many established teams on the main roster, meaning that several makeshift teams have fought over the titles since they were brought back in 2019. That makes for some odd matches, but now we are in for a team working together for the second time and getting their second title match. WWE has announced that Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will defend their Women’s Tag Team Titles against Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair at Fastlane on March 21. This comes after Jax and Baszler successfully defended the titles a..

EXCLUSIVE: WWE Status of Jinder Mahal

This week, WWE experienced a mass layoff of both wrestlers and employees, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of WWE losing an estimated $22 million due to canceling WrestleMania in Tampa, as well as losing additional millions due to the inability to have lice ticketed events, Vince McMahon made the tough decision to end the WWE careers of names including Drake Maverick, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, No Way Jose, and others. WWE also released Kurt Angle from his position as a producer. I reached out to former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal to check on both his WWE status, as well as the status of his injury. Mahal stated that he is currently “cleared and waiting.” Mahal was last seen spending much of his television time chasing the WWE 24/7 Championship, which was a far cry from his ascension to the main event level just a couple of years prior. Mahal shocked the world by defeating Randy Orton at the 2017 Fastlane pay-per-view to win the WWE Championship, an..

What Was Originally Planned For Daniel Bryan At WrestleMania 35?

Back from the drawing board. Last Tuesday, after several weeks of almost there and not quite yet, Kofi Kingston earned his WWE Championship match with Daniel Bryan for WrestleMania 35. This ends a several weeks long chase for Kingston, which all started when Mustafa Ali was injured and left out of the Elimination Chamber. Since this wasn’t the original plan, what did WWE have in mind for Bryan at WrestleMania? According to Wrestlingnews.com by way of Ringsidenews.com, the original plans for Fastlane called for Bryan to face and defeat Ali for the title, setting up the returning Kevin Owens as his WrestleMania 35 opponent. Instead, Owens was brought back early and Bryan faced both of them in a triple threat match at Fastlane. At the moment, Owens is not scheduled for a match at WrestleMania. They had a heck of a match. Check out the triple threat from Fastlane: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It was certainly something to see with all three guys beating the heck ..

What Were The Original Plans For Kevin Owens’ Return And What Is Next For Him? The Answers Might Surprise You.

You mean they didn’t think it through? Remember last month when Kevin Owens returned to WWE and had a pay per view title match? Remember that match being awesome? Now do you remember Owens doing anything other than hosting an episode of the Kevin Owens Show since then? It’s almost like Owens was brought back up too soon and it’s become a problem. So what has been going on? According to Mike Johnson on PW Insider Elite Audio, the original plans were to bring Owens back up on either the Monday Night Raw or SmackDown Live after WrestleMania 35. This obviously did not happen and Owens was brought back to television in a hurry with no plans for him. At the moment, Owens has nothing scheduled for WrestleMania and has only wrestled in a tag match since his title match at Fastlane. Owens certainly hasn’t lost a step. Check out him talking as only he can: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is modern WWE as only they can make it happen. You have an outstanding talent li..

That’s One Way To Do It. #1 Contenders Match Set For Next Week’s SmackDown Live.

You have to stack up the card somehow. With less than three weeks to go before WrestleMania 35, only about half of the card has been announced (assuming the seventeen match card is coming to reality). There are multiple ways to set up a title match at WrestleMania and WWE has used another one, even if it’s not something that made television this week. At least they made the announcement. Check out how a title match will be set: [This post contains video, click to play] In a new video posted to WWE’s YouTube page, it was announced that Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Carmella and Naomi will face off in a fatal four way next week to determine the #1 contender for Asuka’s SmackDown Women’s Title. Naomi and Carmella are both former champions and Rose received her shot earlier this month at Fastlane, when Deville accidentally cost her the match. Opinion: Why do I have a feeling that we’re still heading for a triple threat match? This isn’t the most thrilling set of options in the world and ..

KB’s Review: Come One, Come Everyone Else

With Fastlane out of the way (thank goodness, though the show was solid), it’s time to finally focus on WrestleMania 35, which means we need a card. The matches are either put together or starting to become obvious and one thing is very clear: we are, yet again, in for a freaking ton of matches involving several people, many of whom don’t deserve to be on the show but will be anyway because of this everyone belongs policy from WWE. That’s what we’re going to look at today: this ridiculous idea that everyone in the company needs to be on WrestleMania for one reason or another. Now before we start, I know that the show has to fill in seven hours somehow and that a lot of it comes down to the bonuses that WWE gives out for appearing on the show (as they should). We’re looking at this from more of a kayfabe perspective this time around, as there is very little reason to have so many people on the show. Let’s start with some history. WrestleMania hasn’t always been such a crazy long show...

WWE Has Plans To Continue The Shield Without Dean Ambrose

So that’s how they’re keeping it going. This past Sunday at Fastlane, the main event was centered around the Shield having one last ride together. With Dean Ambrose not re-signing with WWE after next month, it was time to wrap things up for the team once and for all. However, with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins sticking around, something could still be done. According to Ringsidenews.com, local advertisements for the upcoming European tour, which is scheduled to take place after Ambrose is set to leave the company, feature Rollins and Reigns teaming up with Braun Strowman as an honorary member of the Shield. The team will face off with Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin in six man tags. This isn’t the first time such a thing has happened, as Triple H served as an honorary member in 2017. He really did it. Check out Triple H as part of the team: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This makes as much sense as anything else as you can’t blame WWE for trying t..

Fastlane 2019 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

So here we are, with the show that has been treated as an afterthought to an afterthought and is now just being treated like a nothing show. There are a few things on the show that could be interesting, but WWE has been acting like Fastlane, as in the show they’re putting on, is just a nuisance that they’re required to cover. Just watch Raw and see how much effort they’ve put into it as compared to promoting Wrestlemania. Hopefully things pick up a little bit and the show winds up being fun. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade Well if you insists. This has been a great feud so far and one of the best things on SmackDown this year. These guys mesh very well together and this one can serve as the rubber match after their previous big blowoff officially went to a no contest because WWE doesn’t know the definition of a no contest. I’ll take Andrade to win here as he needs to be elevated a little bit more. Mysterio is already a legend and has been for about ten years n..

Main Event Results – March 7, 2019

Main Event Date: March 7, 2019 Location: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Byron Saxton, Renee Young, Percy Watson Things started happening in a hurry last week as WWE suddenly remembered that they needed to set up Fastlane outside of the big matches. That made for some eventful stuff this week and hopefully that translates to this show as well. I’m not sure if I should believe that to be the case or not, but you have to have hope. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Apollo Crews vs. EC3 Rematch from last week. EC3 takes him down with a quickly broken headlock as Crews fights up with a dropkick and armdrag. Crews gets stomped down in the corner for a bit and we hit the reverse chinlock. A clothesline cuts off Crews’ comeback but Crews gets in one of his own. That’s enough to head up top, only to get crotched back down. The 1%er finishes Crews at 5:25. Result: EC3 b. Apollo Crews – 1%er (5:25) From Raw. Here’s Roman Reigns to open things up to another sol..

Roman Reigns Explains Why Women Should Main Event WrestleMania 35

Former WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was recently interviewed by Sky Sports. This followed the WrestleMania 36 press conference earlier this week. During the interview, Reigns discussed why he believes the women deserve to close WrestleMania 35 this year. Seth Rollins defeated 29 other men in the Royal Rumble men’s match to earn the right to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania. This has led a number of fans to predict and hope that those two performers close out the show. It seems more possible now, more than ever, that women could close out the show. Becky Lynch faces Charlotte Flair this weekend at Fastlane- and a victory there, as predicted by most fans, would result in a triple threat between those two performers and RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey for the Championship. For more information on that, check out the very short WWE Now clip below: [This post contains video, click to play] In his interview with Sky Sports, Reigns noted that..

I Feel Like I’m Forgetting Something. WWE Announces New Fastlane Kickoff Show Match But Leaves Out A Major Detail.

Does it count if you don’t tell them? We’re less than two days away from Fastlane and, in theory at least, the card is set for the show. That’s never stopped WWE from adding things at the last minute before and that’s what they’ve done with another Kickoff Show match. This time around though, there’s a detail that they seemed to leave out and it’s kind of an important one. WWE.com has announced a new Kickoff Show match featuring the team of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura facing Big E. and Xavier Woods of the New Day. While that doesn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary, Woods took to Twitter to mention that WWE didn’t actually tell him he would be having a match on the show. According to Woods, he only found out about it by reading the news on Twitter. Glad I opened twitter today or else I wouldn't have known that we have a match this Sunday https://t.co/VlqGQ8BxsI — ??Smooth Pen ?? (@XavierWoodsPhD) March 8, 2019 They certainly did what they promised. Check out what New Da..
