Normally I would say a pay per view card is set two days before the show but AEW has a tendency to throw in a bunch of stuff at the last minute. NXT LVL Up Date: January 13, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Byron Saxton As usual, LVL Up has me wondering what in the world I should be expecting. It might be a boring show, it might be a show with some slightly bigger NXT names or it might be a show that winds up being rather entertaining. It really is a show that could go anywhere, but it would be nice to have some more consistency. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Von Wagner vs. Oba Femi Mr. Stone is here with Wagner, who powers Femi into the corner to start. A running shoulder drops Femi but he’s back with a running shoulder of his own. However, according to Wrestlingnews.co, Rodriguez is expected to be the challenger for Rousey’s SmackDown Women’s Title at the Royal Rumble on January 28. Out For A Bit: WWE Star Likely Written Off Television With Severe Injuries

It’s a dangerous sport. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to be written off of television and many of them can be used to advance a storyline. These can be in the form of another wrestler doing something to get rid of their rival, including attacking them rather violently. That happened twice this week and it has resulted in a wrestler being written onto the shelf. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Really, Him? Road Dogg Alleges Brock Lesnar Would Not Work With This One WWE Star This week’s SmackDown featured a backstage segment where Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler attacked Raquel Rodriguez and slammed her arm in an equipment case. Later in the night, Rodriguez teamed with Shotzi against Baszler and Rousey, both of whom did further damage to her arm. Shotzi announced that Rodriguez had suffered a broken arm and a dislocated elbow. We are a little over a month away from Deadline and for reasons I don’t quite grasp, Von Wagner is next in line for the NXT Title shot. The good thing is that match is set for next week so it won’t drag down a major show, but we could be in for a rough two weeks. Hopefully the rest of the show can balance it out. Let’s get to it. Joe Gacy vs. Cameron Grimes Gacy, now in regular trunks instead of his full body gear, has the rest of Schism with him and gets knocked into the corner to start. Grimes fights his way out of some quick trouble and elbows Gacy in the face. Back up and Grimes slips out of a fireman’s carry and knocks Gacy outside as we take a break. There are very few people who can rise up the ranks (or Level/LVL Up if you will), save for maybe Miles Borne in the last few weeks. Maybe that ride continues this week so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Stacks vs. Tank Ledger Tony D’Angelo is on commentary. Stacks bounces off of the bigger Ledger to start and it’s time to crank on the arm. Ledger runs him over with a shoulder and a slam sends Stacks outside. A kick to the face drops Ledger on the floor as D’Angelo invites Saxton to dinner next weekend. WATCH: Former World Champion Written Off SmackDown With Arm Injury

That could be a long one. There are all kinds of ways to write a wrestler off the shelf for more than a little while. One of the easiest ways is to have a wrestler suffer a storyline injury, which can get rid of a wrestler for about as long as you need. That was the situation this week as a SmackDown star was written off of television for what seems to be a pretty long time. The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Solo Sikoa defeat Sheamus. Following the match, the Usos helped Sikoa crush Sheamus’ arm and elbow with a series of chair shots. During the show, commentary announced that Sheamus was taken to a hospital. After the show was over, WWE sent out a tweet, announcing that Sheamus has suffered a non-displaced fracture near his elbow. There is no word on when Sheamus will be returning to the ring. After the match, Joe Coffey made his return to celebrate with his brother as things seem to be going well for Gallus for a change. Let’s get to it. Quincy Elliott cost Damaris Griffin and Bryson Montana a match last week and it might be time for some revenge. That could go a few ways, but there is also the chance that it is completely dropped. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quincy Elliott vs. Ikemen Jiro Jiro cartwheels to start so Elliott shoves him away and they exchange hand signals. A charge is pulled out of the air so Jiro elbows his way to freedom, only to collapse on a dumb slam attempt. Elliott works on a waistlock and then chops Jiro in the head to cut him off. There are still a few matches to be set up for the card but at least we already have the main event set. Unfortunately that match is another Joe Gacy title shot against Bron Breakker. Stacks/Two Dimes vs. Malik Blade/Edris Enofe Stacks elbows Enofe down to start but a dropkick gets him out of trouble.
