He’ll be back? The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling landscape as there is now a new major promotion where top stars can go. After decades of WWE dominance, AEW offers a brand new place for wrestlers to try their hand on a big stage. Several WWE stars have already made the jump, but now another one may be considering a return somewhere down the road. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Nope. Wrestling Legend Confirms His In-Ring Career Is Over Former WWE star CJ Perry, better known as Lana, appeared on the Mike Wennmacher Show and talked about her husband, AEW star Miro, who wrestled in WWE as Rusev. Perry said she believed Miro would return to WWE one day, saying that “Rusev Day will never die.” She went on to say that no matter what name or gimmick or character Miro is given, it would wind up being iconic. Perry wrapped it up by saying everyone returned to WWE at some point. Miro definitely had some good times in WWE. Check out some of his better moments with the company: [This po..
Eat it before he eats you. Wrestlers can do a lot of things and some of them have nothing to do with what goes on in the ring. Sometimes you hear about them doing something outside of wrestling, possibly using their celebrity status to get the word out a bit easier. That is apparently the case with a top WWE star, even if you have never heard of them before. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Danger Of War: Bloodline Member Possibly Injured During WarGames Triple H recently appeared on Snack Wars, where he mentioned being a fan of beef jerky. As an aside, Triple H mentioned that Brock Lesnar has his own line of beef jerky, which is called “Bearded Butcher Brock Lesnar Beef Bites” which are sold on Bearded Butchers’ online store, though as of this writing, they are out of stock. Lesnar has never mentioned the product on WWE TV. It is not clear when Lesnar will return to WWE. Lesnar can do a lot of things outside of the beef jerky business. Call it a scheduling conflict? There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world today but only a handful are at the top level. WWE and AEW are at the top of the list and the two are in combat for dominance in the United States. They went head to head for a good while under the Wednesday Night Wars, and now they might be going at it again for one day only later this year. AEW has announced that its next pay per view, All Out, will be taking place on Sunday September 4. According to Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston, the next NXT special will take place on the same day and air on Peacock. It is not clear if the shows will take place at the same time. This is one day after WWE presents Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales, though it is not clear where the NXT event would take place. Opinion: It would not surprise me whatsoever to see these shows overlap because both companies seem to like to try something like this. It’s rather annoying for fans who want to watch both, but why go wit..
Monday Night Raw Date: June 27, 2022 Location: Sames Auto Arena, Laredo, Texas Commentators: Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Jimmy Smith It’s a very special night as John Cena is here to celebrate twenty years (to the day) of his WWE debut. That should be enough to carry the night and that might need to be the case. This is also the go home edition of Raw for Money In The Bank, meaning it’s time to build momentum, establish dominance, and maybe even come up with an original tagline for what the participants are doing. Let’s get to it. Earlier today, John Cena returned to quite the hero’s welcome, meeting a bunch of applauding wrestlers and backstage workers. Money In The Bank Qualifying Match: Battle Royal T-Bar, Mustafa Ali, Shanky, Akira Tozawa, Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio, Ricochet, Shinsuke Nakamura, Jinder Mahal, Riddle, Miz, AJ Styles, Ciampa, Reggie, Shelton Benjamin, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth, Veer Mahaan Tozawa is tossed out fast and Mahaan clotheslines Benjamin out. The times they are a turning? There are very few wrestlers in modern history to reach the level of Roman Reigns. As we approach two years of Reigns as Universal Champion, there is nothing to suggest that Reigns is slowing down anytime soon. You do not get that kind of dominance very often and fans seem to be impressed with him. Now WWE is acknowledging some of that new found respect. This week on Monday Night Raw, Reigns and the rest of the Bloodline came to the ring, with the commentary team saying that the group received a mixed reaction from the fans. According to Wrestlingnews.co, if this was a line from Vince McMahon, it could be a sign that Reigns is being set up for a babyface turn in the near future. There is no word on when the turn could take place, assuming that it does. Opinion: This is something that could make for some interesting moments, though I’m almost scared of the idea of Reigns making a turn. WWE has not had the most success with Reigns as the top good guy befor..
He’s got some gold. Titles are the most important part of almost any wrestling show as they are the easiest story to tell. You can see someone win, defend, lose or pursue a title and everyone can understand the concept without much trouble. This has worked since professional wrestling began, but this time around someone has won a title that they are not going to lose. Gable Steveson won the NCAA Heavyweight Championship over the weekend for the second year in a row. After the match, Steveson officially retired from amateur wrestling. Steveson signed with WWE last year and appeared at Summerslam before being drafted to Monday Night Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft. He is expected to begin working with WWE full time in the near future. PURE DOMINANCE!! GABLE STEVESON CONTROLS HIS FINALS MATCH AND HE IS A TWO-TIME NCAA CHAMPION!!#GopherTough // #SkiUMah pic.twitter.com/QKMjmlLoYv — Minnesota Wrestling (@GopherWrestling) March 20, 2022 Opinion: This is the kind of thing that will work very w..
That’s one way of doing things. There have been a lot of wrestlers over the years but only a handful truly stand out above the rest. It could be for one of a few reasons, though one of the easiest is to have someone do something physically impressive. Several wrestlers fit that description, but one of the most physically dominant of all time is still around today. This week, he used that dominance in a different way. Brock Lesnar appeared on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this week and slammed his hands onto a table, breaking it in the process. McAfee was so stunned by Lesnar destroying the table that he fell to his knees in laughter. Lesnar would fix the table and continue the interview while joking about the quality of the table. Lesnar is scheduled to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber on Saturday. That table didn’t have a good day. Check out what Lesnar can do to furniture: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m never su..
Another one on the list. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works as there is now a second major promotion where wrestlers can find work. That is a great change after so many years of WWE dominance, as you can only get so far with one company. Now a wrestler who was with WWE just last year has found a new home and it might be a better fit. AEW has announced that former NXT star Jake Atlas has officially signed with the company. This comes after Atlas made an appearance on AEW Dark: Elevation last month. Atlas is a former NXT star who was in August 2021. He had wrestled a match at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonored event before taking a hiatus from the wrestling industry. The AEW match was his first in over three months. Congratulations on winning your tryout match last night, Jake Atlas! What a great @AEW debut, and now @kennymarquez, I’ll see you Tomorrow night in Newark at the debut of #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork! Safe travels, and… Welcome to the team! #J..
Those are some strong words. After around twenty years of WWE dominance, the wrestling world has a new major player in the form of AEW. The new company has made quite the impact in its short history and there is nothing to suggest that they will be slowing down anytime soon. A lot of that can be credited to the company’s boss, Tony Khan, who had quite the thought on this week’s Monday Night Raw. Khan appeared on the most recent edition of My Mom’s Basement and discussed the head to head battles between WWE and AEW television, including the Wednesday Night Wars. During the interview, Khan talked about this week’s edition of SmackDown, which will go head to head with AEW Rampage for half an hour. Khan said that while AEW might not have stronger numbers, they will have the better show, saying about this week’s Monday Night Raw, “if you don’t believe me, watch the go-home show they did last night because it sucked.” This will be a one off head to head competition between the two shows. What might not be? AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works and it has been in a good way. After so many years of pure WWE dominance, there has been a change in that we now have two large promotions rather than just one. A lot of that as been due to how the company has been put together, but it seems that there are some changes. They just might not be as impactful as previously thought. Last week, news began to emerge that AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents (Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) did not have as much authority as they had previously possessed, as Tony Khan had become the ultimate backstage authority. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this has been the case since December 2019, though the Vice Presidents still have creative input, especially over their own angles and stories. Other top names such as Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho have input as well. No major changes have taken place in recent months, as the system is the same as it has been for nearly t..
Bryan Danielson’s arrival in AEW brought the house down at All Out on September 5. Danielson’s debut came just moments after that of Adam Cole, who had just shocked the audience by joining The Elite. Danielson is now making it clear that he’s after The Elite. More specifically, Bryan is after AEW World champion and Elite leader Kenny Omega. While that match is surely on the way, Danielson has some serious hurdles to clear. The first on the list may be Adam Cole. [This post contains video, click to play] Elite Arrivals Bryan versus Cole already happened in WWE of course. But that match was a one-off and it never lead to a lengthy feud. So now that both men are on opposite sides in AEW, it’s only logical that they will go to war. Danielson is leading that war and he’s determined to put The Elite’s dominance of AEW to the test. Bryan comes in with a lot to prove, to himself and the AEW faithful as well. He’s a true pro wrestler at heart and he wants nothing more than to ply his craft..
AEW All Out was perhaps the biggest night in the company’s history. Titles changed hands, legends arrived and newly signed stars made their debuts. The ideal pro wrestling event provides a series of huge moments from start to finish. Each one brings the fans to their feet and each one establishes the greatness of the event itself. This is precisely what All Elite Wrestling delivered on September 5 in Chicago. From the opening bout to the main event, the boisterous crowd was lively and completely dialed in. Momentum never waned and anticipation grew by the second. All Out is the event that shows exactly what AEW is all about. [This post contains video, click to play] All Out On The Card Eddie Kingston was the first man out of the curtain on the main card. The 19-year veteran has no fear, making him the perfect opponent for Miro. Miro is the most dominating TNT champion in AEW history and he brings that dominance to bear against Jon Moxley’s partner in crime. Miro retained the title..
That’s good…I think? Vince McMahon might not be the most popular name in wrestling these days but he certainly is the most power. McMahon can change the industry with a single decision, but he can also change any wrestler’s career just as fast. This week saw McMahon dealing with a fairly pressing contract situation personally and now we know a bit more about how it went. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Adam Cole’s NXT contract was scheduled to expire later this month. As a result, McMahon would be meeting with Cole this week before SmackDown. According to Fightful Select, the meeting went well and McMahon has taken a personal liking to Cole. It is not clear how long the meeting lasted but Cole was not around backstage during the show. WWE creative has been working on plans for him to debut on the main roster should he re-sign with the company. I can see why WWE would want to keep Cole. He’s kind of a big deal. One of the top stories in WWE in the last ten months has been the return and the rise of Roman Reigns. Having held the Universal Title since August 2020, Reigns has been one of the most dominant stars the company has seen in a rather long time. It has been a pretty great nine and a half months for Reigns, but WWE is also thinking about the future. According to Wrestlingnews.co, Reigns is booked as an unstoppable force who dominates everyone he faces in an attempt to set up his match against the Rock, whenever that may take place. Vince McMahon is said to see Reigns as someone who could carry the company for years to come and does not want Reigns as someone who is beaten down half of the time. McMahon’s theory is to “protect Reigns at every cost.” Reigns has been on fire as of late. Check out some of his most recent dominance: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Op..
Jon Moxley will defend the AEW World Championship against Lance Archer on the anniversary edition of Dynamite on Wednesday, October 14. Archer became the No.1 Contender after winning the Casino Battle Royale at September 5’s All Out pay-per-view. At nearly 200 days, Moxley is the longest reigning AEW World champion in the company’s short history. His title win in 2019 set him on the path of dominance at the main event level and he’s been riding high against every challenger that’s come his way. But will he make it past The Murderhawk Monster on October 14? This match is one that was bound to happen at some point. Archer has been booked as a top star since his AEW debut on March 11, 2020. Archer rode the wave of momentum he had from New Japan Pro Wrestling and used it to establish himself in Tony Khan’s company. Lance’s work in NJPW caught the attention of longtime fans who followed Archer’s career over the years and those fans were thrilled to see him finally get a real shot at star..
He made it work. There are very few wrestlers who have been able to defy the laws of time like R-Truth. He started in the WWF all the way back in 1999 and came back after a lengthy hiatus, only to reach some incredible heights all over again. He has since moved on to become one of the more popular comedy wrestlers in WWE and those comedy skills were on display in a lucrative way earlier this year. R-Truth has gone from a serious wrestler to someone who is not always exactly on top of everything and is often confused. This has been a big part of his dominance of the 24/7 Title but he has also had some higher goals in mind. One such goal was winning the Royal Rumble, but Brock Lesnar entering the match had R-Truth a bit scared. The moment also had Lesnar in stitches of laughter, and that was worth something to someone. In a new interview with TalkSport, R-Truth spoke about his in-ring segment with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar from January of this year. R-Truth says there was a bet betw..
That’s one way to go. Assuming it happens on time, we are less than three weeks away from Wrestlemania 36. The event is the biggest wrestling show of the year with several storylines and angles coming together on a huge card. With so much going on though, it can be easy to forget that there are shows to take care of after it is over. This includes some major talent, and one such name might already have their next match planned. There are very few wrestlers in history like Brock Lesnar. He is one of the biggest stars that wrestling has ever seen with a complete dominance that almost no one has ever been able to duplicate. Lesnar comes off as one of the most realistic threats to anyone and has held the company’s World Titles for a very long time. At some point though, he is going to run into someone like him and we may know who that is. According to Tom Colohue on Dropkick DISKussions podcast, WWE is planning on a Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley match at some point in the future. Their curren..
I guess not everyone is a fan. There’s no real argument against WWE being the biggest wrestling company in the world. That has been the case for the better part of thirty five years (save for a few years in the mid 1990s). With dominance like that, you can imagine that the company has a bit of control that other companies aren’t going to be able to maintain. As it turns out, there are some major issues that go along with this. These is a lot of stuff here and it doesn’t look great. Check out the full segment from last night’s show: [This post contains video, click to play] WWE was the focus of a segment on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver on Sunday. The main point of the segment was on WWE’s lack of caring for its employees, with a major focus on its lack of benefits to the wrestlers, such as healthcare, due to the wrestlers officially being independent contractors. This included an explanation of the definition of an independent contractor according to the IRS, which says that a..
