It’s Over: Six Month Old Streak Snapped On Monday Night Raw

It had to happen at some point. Wrestling is a weird sport in that while wins and losses matter, the results are planned in advance. What makes it more interesting is that fans can get behind the idea of a wrestler winning over and over, as it makes them seem like a bigger star. Every wrestler has to lose at some point though, and now one of the winning streaks has been broken. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE And AEW Stars Reunite In New Music Video The opening match this week on Monday Night Raw saw Kevin Owens defeat Solo Sikoa via disqualification when Jimmy Uso interfered. This was Sikoa’s first televised loss on the main roster, where he debuted back in September. Sikoa has yet to be pinned or made to submit on the main roster. This comes after reports of Sikoa being kept strong in preparation for a future feud with Roman Reigns. Sikoa has been a force. Take Three: New Grudge Match With Special Stipulation Added To WWE Summerslam

Put it on the card. We are less than a week away from Summerslam and that means most of the card is set. The majority of the show is ready and now WWE has to build up what they have. There is still a little more time to add something else though and that is what they did this week, as a new grudge match was added to the show. This time though, there is a bit of a twist. This week on Monday Night Raw, a No Disqualification tag match between the Mysterios and Judgment Day was added to the Summerslam card. The match was added after the Mysterios defeated Judgment Day in a regular match earlier in the show, only to have Judgment Day attack Rey Mysterio later in the night. This will be the third match between the teams, with the Mysterios having won the first two. Opinion: I’m not sure how much need there is to have this match added to Summerslam after the Mysterios defeated Judgment Day again this week. Maybe the stipulation can add in something new, but there is a very good chance that ..

It’s A Special Case: Monday Night Raw Match Ends Due To Secret Rule

That’s the reason. Wrestling is a lot of things, but it is supposed to be presented as a sport. That means following various rules and regulations, with most matches following the same ones. On occasion there will be a match with something changed for a special situation, but this time around things were even more out there, as a match ended due to a rule that few know about. This week on Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles and Ezekiel defeated the Miz and Ciampa via disqualification when the illegal Ciampa attacked AJ Styles. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this was due to a secret rule in WWE. In a tag match, a wrestler is allowed to make one illegal save, with the second drawing a disqualification. Ciampa was making his second save and was disqualified as a result. Opinion: I’m not sure I get why this is a secret rule. If someone is making an illegal save, isn’t that breaking a rule by definition? This doesn’t sound so much like a secret as much as it sounds like being a bit tediou..

Keep Them Coming: WWE Adds More Names To Money In The Bank Ladder Matches

Keep filling up those spots. We are coming up on WWE’s annual Money In The Bank event, which will be headlined by the show’s namesake matches. These matches are among the biggest that WWE presents all year with some of the more prominent names in the company competing for a guaranteed on-demand shot at the World Title. Now we know some more names who will be getting their shot. This week’s SmackDown saw three more names added to the Money In The Bank ladder match fields. First, both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were added to the men’s match. This is the result of a decision by WWE management after last week’s qualifying match ended in a double disqualification. Later in the show, Raquel Rodriguez defeated Shayna Baszler to qualify for the women’s match. This means the men’s match now has three entrants (Sheamus, McIntyre, Seth Rollins) and the women’s match has four (Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez) out of eight spots per match. Opinion: This is the kind of night ..

They Do Have A Plan: Update On WWE Tag Team Title Unification Match

They do have a plan. There are a lot of titles in WWE at the moment and that can cause some issues as having too many people carrying championships can water down their status. That seems to be the case again in WWE, at least in a certain division, so WWE seems to be doing something about it. At least in theory that is, as they might have a way out of the change. One of the original main events for WrestleMania Backlash was to have seen Raw Tag Team Champions RKBro vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos in a title unification match. The match was eventually changed to a non-title six man tag, though RKBro mentioned the match again on Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania Backlash. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is still planning to have the match, but no title change is planned, meaning some sort of no contest or double countout/double disqualification is expected. There is no word on when the match will take place. Opinion: I would like to believe that WWE has something..

WATCH: Triple H vs. Randy Orton From WrestleMania XXV (25)

The protege seeks revenge. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Triple H and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship from WrestleMania XXV (25). You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The match began with not one bang, but two, as Triple H and Orton both hit their patented maneuvers (the Pedigree and RKO respectively) within moments of the contest’s start. The Game dominated the early match, prompting The Legend Killer to move the fight outside of the ring. Keenly aware of the stipulation that would have the WWE Championship change hands on a disqualification or count-out, Orton hoped to leave his opponent battered and broken outside the ring as the referee counted to 10. But Triple H was running on pure fury, repeatedly coming back from the third-generation Superstar’s underhanded tactics. With his options running out, Orton took out the referee, giving himself a few..

Yes Him: WWE Thought About Making James Ellsworth WWE Champion

That would have been something. There are a lot of titles in the wrestling world and some of them are rather prestigious. Some of those titles have been around for a very long time, with some of the better known championships being sanctioned by WWE. Winning a championship in WWE means something in the wrestling world, and it seems that a surprising name almost won the company’s signature title. During a recent interview on the Cheap Heat Productions podcast, former WWE star James Ellsworth said that there had been discussions of him winning the WWE Championship in 2016. Ellsworth did feud with WWE Champion AJ Styles during 2016, including defeating him twice with the help of Dean Ambrose. The feud saw Ellsworth receive two shots at the title, one of which resulted in a disqualification victory over Styles. Ellsworth did make it clear that he did not believe the plans were legitimate and that he should not have been champion. Opinion: I don’t think there was any serious consideration..

Hi There: Two Stars Return This Week On NXT

They’re back. With so many wrestlers in WWE today, it can be difficult to remember who everyone is and what everyone is doing. A lot of the time, these wrestlers need something that makes you stand out among the rest, with the best way often being a big return. That can be hard to pull off, but WWE tried it in two ways this week on the same television show in the same night. There were two returns this week on NXT, with a pair of wrestlers making their first appearances in several weeks. First, Dante Chen made his return, saying that he had suffered a leg injury to put him on the shelf. Chen also said that he had been inspired to improve his career by the death of his father. He would face Guru Raaj in a match that went to a double disqualification when Duke Hudson interfered. This was Chen’s first match on NXT since September 21, 2021. Later in the show, Sarray returned in a vignette, though she did not appear in the arena or in a match. Sarray has been in Japan for several weeks bu..

VIDEO: Roman Reigns Seems To Have A Surprising New Challenger

He’s next. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and that means it is time to start setting up the show. As usual though, that can be rather tricky when sixty people are going to be tied up in two matches. There are a few ways to get around that problem though, and WWE is going to be doing just that in one of the show’s main event title matches. This week on SmackDown, Adam Pearce was told to find Roman Reigns’ challenger for the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble. At the end of the show, Reigns was in his dressing room when Seth Rollins came in, signifying that he would be the next challenger. The match has yet to be officially announced. Rollins defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank 2016. Their most recent singles match came on the October 11, 2019 SmackDown, with Rollins winning via disqualification. It was a big moment. Check out Rollins’ appearance, plus what these two do against each other: [This post contains video, click to play] [Thi..

Main Event Set For WWE Day 1

One for 1. We are almost to December and that means it is time to get ready for the start of the new year. That means it is time to get ready to start the Road To WrestleMania 38. There are a few stops before we get there though and that could make for some interesting changes. Now we know what the biggest match should be at one of the few remaining pay per views before WrestleMania. The main event of Day 1 is scheduled to be Big E. defending his WWE Title against Seth Rollins. This week’s Monday Night Raw was headlined by Big E. facing Kevin Owens in a non-title match. Rollins interfered and attacked Owens to cause a disqualification, and as a result of the match’s stipulation, Owens is now added to the Day 1 title match. Day 1 is scheduled for January 1, 2022. It’s a big match. Check out how we got to the triple threat: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I think I like this id..

How WWE Made Sure To Protect These Wrestlers At Survivor Series

They had a plan. Survivor Series has come and gone and as usual, the show was centered around the ideas of elimination tag matches and the Battle For Brand Supremacy. That can make for a rather stacked show with all kinds of people on the card in large matches. With so many people included, there are going to be some that WWE wants to take care of more than others. Now we know who they are and how they went about it. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE intended to protect multiple wrestlers at Survivor Series. Some of the names that they wanted to protect included Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens, both of whom were eliminated via countout. In addition, Drew McIntyre was eliminated via count out and Damian Priest lost via disqualification. The idea was to find a way to keep bigger stars from losing falls but still being eliminated, hence the countouts and disqualification. It was a busy night. Check out how some of the bigger matches went down: [This post contains video, click to..

WATCH: Possible Heel Turn At WWE Survivor Series

It might be time for a change. There are not many ways to make drastic changes to a wrestler. One of the better options is to switch someone from good to bad or vice versa, as it can open up a variety of new options for them. Some of these can be more successful than the others, but now we might have seen another big star make the jump over to the other side. This weekend’s WWE Survivor Series event featured a Kickoff Show match between Damian Priest and Shinsuke Nakamura. During the match, Nakamura’s friend Rick Boogs kept playing his guitar, which annoyed Priest. Finally Priest had enough and broke the guitar, which he then used to hit Nakamura for the disqualification. This may have been a heel turn for Priest, who has been more aggressive in recent weeks. This could go somewhere. Check out the match plus some more angry Priest: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I don’t know..

WATCH: We Have Most Of A WarGames Match

That would be a big one. We are on the way to the next big NXT event with WarGames on December 5. While it is not a Takeover event, it seems it will be having all makings of one of them. This includes theshow’s namesake match, which could make for some interesting changes. The NXT roster has been decimated by changes and injuries but now we might know something big on the horizon. This week’s NXT featured a main event of Dakota Kai vs. Raquel Gonzalez. When Gonzalez seemed to have the match won, Toxic Attraction interfered to cause the disqualification. This led to Cora Jade and Io Shirai making the save. After the ring was cleared, Shirai issued the challenge for a WarGames match, though it has yet to be made official. There is no word on who would team with Shirai and Gonzalez. This was a big moment. Check out the brawl plus what WarGames looks like: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

WWE Made Two Confusing Changes To Crown Jewel Main Event

What could have been. There are all kinds of ways to make a match more interesting, with one of the easiest ways being to add a stipulation. This could be anything as there are so many possibilities to make things better. Some of them are a lot more common than others, while some are very simple as well. That was almost the case this week, but then things changed. The main event of this week’s WWE Crown Jewel event saw Universal Champion Roman Reigns defending his title against Brock Lesnar. Prior to the show, WWE announced that the match would be no disqualification. However, during the Kickoff Show, another announcement was made saying that neither of them had any interest in the change, so it was dropped as a result. There is no word on why WWE announced the change and then reversed course. No disqualification matches can work rather well. Check out what almost happened: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..

Run It Back: Stable Reforms On Monday Night Raw

Reunion special. Stables are one of the easiest ideas in wrestling because they allow wrestlers to get together and save a lot of time. There are some legendary stables over the years and some of them have been very successful. We have seen a bit of a renaissance of stables in recent years and now a recently split one seems to be primed for another crack at success. This week on Monday Night Raw, Bobby Lashley challenged Big E. for the WWE Title. Near the end of the match, Big E. speared Lashley through the ropes, where Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin appeared. The two were wearing Hurt Business shirts and nodded to Lashley, suggesting that the team was back together before the match ended in a disqualification. The Hurt Business, also including MVP, formed last year and saw success, including winning the Raw Tag Team Titles. They would ultimately split in January of this year, with Benjamin and Alexander being thrown out. You might remember the Hurt Business. Check out some of..

New Title Match Set For WWE Extreme Rules

Add it to the card. We are less than two weeks away from WWE Extreme Rules and the show still has a lot of work to do. While a lot of the card has been set, there has not been anything actually extreme added to the show so far. With that not being a factor, WWE is going to have to rely on the matches themselves to carry the show, which is what they tried to do again this week. WWE.com has announced that the Usos will defend the SmackDown Tag Team Titles against the Street Profits at Extreme Rules. This comes after the Profits defeated the Usos in a title match via disqualification last week on SmackDown when Roman Reigns interfered. There has been no stipulation announced for the match so far, which has been the case with every match on the card. There is already a story here. Check out how the match was set up plus both other entries in their series: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] O..

VIDEO: WWE Announces Injury To SmackDown Star

Hopefully it isn’t too bad. Just like in other sports, there are all kinds of injuries in wrestling. You never know when you are going to see someone go onto the injured list and miss some ring time. To make things even more complicated, there is always the chance that the injury is part of a storyline and not legitimate. It seems that the latter is the case this time. WWE announced an injury update to Cesaro during this week’s edition of Talking Smack. Cesaro is said to have suffered a cervical strain due to an attack at the hands of Seth Rollins during this week’s SmackDown. Cesaro defeated Rollins in their match via disqualification when Rollins used a chair, with Rollins attacking Cesaro after the match ended. There is no word on how long Cesaro will be out of action. It was a brutal one. Check out the announcement, the match, plus what Cesaro can do when he is healthy: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..

WATCH: CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar From SummerSlam 2013

The Best vs. The Beast. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full No Disqualification match between CM Punk and Brock Lesnar from SummerSlam 2013. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The action started at a breakneck pace, with Lesnar outmuscling his smaller foe and focusing his punishing offense on Punk’s ribs, not yet completely healed from The Beast’s attack on Raw weeks ago. Despite speculation among certain segments of the WWE Universe that Punk would be wholly overmatched, however, The Best in the World proved completely fearless, and his never-say-die spirit, galvanized by the decidedly pro-Punk fans in attendance, allowed him to survive maneuvers that would have undoubtedly downed most Superstars. Lesnar tossed Punk onto tables, slammed his body with a steel chair and rocketed him overhead with a belly-to-belly suplex on the floor. The farm-strong Lesnar placed a table cov..

New Grudge Match Added To Summerslam Card

Keep them coming. We are just over a week away from Summerslam, which remains one of WWE’s biggest events of the year. It is the kind of card that the company is going to want to stack as many big matches as they can manage. There are some top names on the WWE roster and it makes sense to put some of them together on the show. Now they have added another match to the card. WWE has announced that Drew McIntyre will face Jinder Mahal at Summerslam. The match comes after Mahal became annoyed at McIntyre for not having time for him and attempting to steal McIntyre’s sword. McIntyre also destroyed Mahal’s custom motorcycle and has also attacked Mahal’s associates, Veer and Shanky. The two also met on the July 5 Monday Night Raw, when McIntyre won via disqualification. It took some time to get here. Check out how the match was set up: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I don’t think t..

BREAKING: Title Change Takes Place On SmackDown

History has been made! Titles are one of the easiest ideas in all of wrestling as anyone can get the idea: take two people, put a big shiny belt in between them and whoever wins is champion. You can go all kinds of ways with an idea like that and the idea has worked forever in wrestling. It still works in modern time too and now we have a new champion crowned. This week on SmackDown, King Nakamura defeated Apollo Crews to become the new Intercontinental Champion. The match came after Nakamura defeated Crews via disqualification when Commander Azeez interfered. Azeez was ejected during the rematch, leaving Nakamura to defeat Crews with the Kinshasa. The win makes Nakamura a two time Intercontinental Champion. Nakamura has been here before. Check out his time as champion: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It’s a good idea to give Nakamura the title.
