More content is coming. This week on Dynamite, Tony Khan was scheduled to make a big announcement. That announcement was actually made by Adam Cole, in which he shared that a new AEW show was coming to TBS. Called “AEW: All Access”, the show will will follow some of the company’s biggest stars week-to-week as they seek to remain at the top of the company while also exploring rivalries between them. The show will also detail the lead up to major AEW events and pay-per-views. Cole also announced that the night that the show debuts, which will be sometime in March, he will also be making his return to in-ring competition. From Variety: “We’re always looking for new ways to engage with fans and give them unique access to our incredible talent,” Khan said. “With the new ‘AEW: All Access’ series, they’ll have a chance to peek behind the curtain and into the lives of their favorite wrestlers like never before. To show the human side of some of these larger-than-life figures will give fans..
It’s a different perspective. There are certain moments in wrestling that take place right in front of your eyes and get the intended reactions. One of the best things that you will see is a big surprise, which was the case earlier this week with a special return. Now though, we are getting to see what set things up from a different perspective that is not always available to the fans. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Mia Yim Claims She Would Request Released If WWE Asked Her To Do This This week on SmackDown, Becky Lynch made her WWE return after missing three months due to a shoulder injury. Lynch was unveiled as the fifth member of Team Belair in the women’s Survivor Series WarGames match. Belair introduced her and started a brawl in the ring, though WWE has released a video her Lynch backstage waiting to come through the curtain. Belair’s voice can be heard and the video of the show can partially be seen behind her. It was a special look. Check out Lynch getting ready to return and..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Mystery Vortex III Date: June 26, 2015 Location: American Legion Post #308, Reseda, California Commentators: Excalibur, Rick Knox, Chris Hero, Joey Ryan, Ethan Page This is another PWG show that someone requested I do….a few years back now, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a bad one. From what I understand, the gimmick of this show is that the card isn’t announced until the wrestlers are coming out of the curtain. That should make for a fun show so let’s get to it. As usual, I don’t really follow PWG so I’m..
I would say he has earned it. WWE has been around for a very long time now and there have been some very talented stars to come through that curtain. Some of them are far more memorable than others, but there are some legends who have stood the test of time. Those are the names that WWE likes to celebrate and that is what they are going to be doing in the near future. WWE has announced that they will be celebrating Kane’s 25th anniversary in the company. Kane debuted on October 5, 1997 at Bad Blood during the Hell In A Cell match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. WWE will be celebrating the milestone with special editions of Top 10 and WWE Playlist, looking at some of the best moments of Kane’s career. While Kane debuted in 1997, Glenn Jacobs had been wrestling for WWE for several years before becoming Kane. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that WWE has been doing over and over as of late and one of the biggest reasons is that they had a lot of great things from back in the la..
They are some of the people who matter. One of the biggest wrestling stories of the year remains the backstage brawl after AEW All Out. A group of wrestlers including CM Punk and the Elite got in a huge fight, resulting in several suspensions. It also suggested quite the divide backstage in AEW, but now we might know a bit more about whose side seems to be more popular. According to a Pro Wrestling Torch audio show, the Young Bucks are mostly seen as good guys backstage in AEW. This includes wrestlers feeling like Punk should not have spoken about them as he did at the All Out media scrum. While the Bucks are seen as passive aggressive, they are not seen as “abrasive personalities”. The Bucks, along with Punk and Kenny Omega, remain indefinitely suspended from AEW. Opinion: This is an interesting take and the kind of thing that do not get to see from this side of the curtain. The Bucks were in on the ground floor with AEW and that is going to get them a biggest status than others. At..
The other side. There are very few wrestlers in history like Brock Lesnar. He is a mixture of power, amateur wrestling skills and natural athleticism that has probably never been rivaled in professional wrestling. At the same time though, Lesnar has a bit of a reputation for just being in wrestling for the money and having little desire to do much else. However, he might be a bit nicer than he seems. Natalya was a guest on the Sports Guys Talking Wrestling podcast and revealed that Lesnar regularly gives wrestlers feedback on their matches. Lesnar watches the matches at the gorilla position behind the curtain and then offers wrestlers advice along with areas where they could improve. Natalya went on to say that Lesnar gets a bad reputation for not giving back but he knows what he is talking about with wrestling. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that can make for some fascinating moments, as Lesnar does have a reputation for not being thrilled to be around wrestling a lot of the tim..
Anything can happen in WWE. There are a lot of shows on the WWE calendar in any given year but there are some that stand out more than others. WWE has a series of signature shows that are bigger than the rest and as a result, they will have bigger stars around. While the shows can be planned out as well as possible, sometimes there are going to be some issues. That was the case with one of the most important ones this year. According to Fightful Select, there was a mishap backstage during the men’s Royal Rumble. Randy Orton was scheduled to enter the match at #28 but as he was ready to go through the curtain, Shane McMahon’s music played instead. McMahon went to the curtain to complain about the mistake but Orton burst into laughter and “fell to the floor” over the situation. McMahon entered at #28 and Orton composed himself before entering at #29. Both would be eliminated by Brock Lesnar, the match’s eventual winner. Opinion: This is one of those things that happens occasionally and..
AEW All Out was perhaps the biggest night in the company’s history. Titles changed hands, legends arrived and newly signed stars made their debuts. The ideal pro wrestling event provides a series of huge moments from start to finish. Each one brings the fans to their feet and each one establishes the greatness of the event itself. This is precisely what All Elite Wrestling delivered on September 5 in Chicago. From the opening bout to the main event, the boisterous crowd was lively and completely dialed in. Momentum never waned and anticipation grew by the second. All Out is the event that shows exactly what AEW is all about. [This post contains video, click to play] All Out On The Card Eddie Kingston was the first man out of the curtain on the main card. The 19-year veteran has no fear, making him the perfect opponent for Miro. Miro is the most dominating TNT champion in AEW history and he brings that dominance to bear against Jon Moxley’s partner in crime. Miro retained the title..
The Maharaja defends his title. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at the 2017 Money in the Bank pay-per-view. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The Modern-Day Maharaja didn’t just defeat The Apex Predator to retain the WWE Championship he won in shocking fashion last month at WWE Backlash, he did it in front of Orton’s hometown crowd and a cadre of “St. Louis Legends” at ringside that included Greg Gagne, Larry “The Axe” Hennig, Baron Von Raschke, Sgt. Slaughter, Ric Flair and The Viper’s father, “Cowboy” Bob Orton. With that kind of support, Orton was feeling it from the second he walked through the curtain, and the crowd’s chants of “RKO” very nearly willed The Viper to hit his fearsome finishing move just seconds into the match. But thanks to an assist from The Singh Brothers, Orton found himself flip..
It’s good to have a reputation. There are some wrestlers who are not the most well received by the fans. For one reason or another, people just do not like a wrestler every now and then, though that might be by design. Some wrestlers are naturally great at being villains, but that might not be the case backstage. One such name might come as a surprise to you, as he is a rather popular name behind the curtain. According to Andrew Zarian of the We’re Live Pal podcast, a former WWE writer has said that Baron Corbin is one of the most beloved people backstage in WWE. Corbin is said to be easy to work with and never combative about anything. He was compared to the Miz, who has been part of WWE for many years and is willing to do anything that WWE asks of him, no matter what. Corbin signed with WWE in August 2012 and wrestled in NXT until April 2016 when he was called up to Monday Night Raw. Since then, Corbin has wrestled on both main roster shows, where he has won the United States Title..
Clash of the Champions XXII Date: January 13, 1993 Location: The Mecca, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Attendance: 4,000 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jesse Ventura The main event tonight sees Sting/Ron Simmons/Dustin Rhodes/Van Hammer vs. Vader/Barbarian/Barry Windham/Paul Orndorff (substitute for an injured Rick Rude) inside the Thunder Cage. We’re nearing the end of an era here in WCW as Bill Watts’ job is already on the brink and would be ended soon thereafter. In other words, most of the matches tonight don’t mean much, especially with a few changes coming soon. Let’s get to it. Bill Watts welcomes us to the show and talks about his history wrestling in Milwaukee. Also Van Hammer is injured and out of the main event tonight. There will be a replacement in his arm wrestling match later. No mention of the main event. Also, Erik Watts has been arrested (kayfabe) and is out of his match tonight. It’s another new set with the entrance being under a metal frame like last time, but no long curtain be..
You don’t get something like this. There are very few wrestlers in history like the Undertaker. He has been around forever and still manages to have one big moment after another. Later this year, he will celebrate thirty years with the company, which is practically unheard of in almost any wrestling company. In that whole time, we have barely seen anything from behind the curtain with him, but now that might be changing. Late last year, Undertaker was a guest on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions. This marked a very rare look at the person behind the Undertaker character. That is something fans have been interested in seeing for decades now and it finally took place. They did not have time to talk about everything though, and that is why Sunday night brought good news. During the first night of WrestleMania 36, WWE announced a new limited series about the Undertaker, called The Last Ride. The limited series will feature out of character interviews with Undertaker, as well as major ..
Pull back that curtain. Last Sunday, WWE presented their the annual Survivor Series event, featuring almost every big name wrestler on their roster. The show was packed and treated like the big deal that it is, which allowed for some major moments and good action. It’s easy to praise the wrestlers for their performances in front of the camera, but what about what they go through behind the curtain? These are always cool to see. You never really know what they’re going through before the show: [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has released a new video looking behind the scenes at Survivor Series. The video looks at the roster during the entire day leading up to the event, with shots of everyone in the gorilla position as they’re ready to come to the ring. Each of them are shown in order according to where their matches took place on the show, making it a bit more organized than you might expect. Opinion: I love this kind of stuff. You don’t get to see things like this t..
That’s one way of getting them. With most of the action on a wrestling show taking place in the arena, there aren’t a lot of places to get things done. Of course there’s the ring itself and various backstage places, but what if you want to mix things up just a little bit? There aren’t many other options available, but the entrance ramp is pretty ideal for a surprise attack, and it’s happened several times over the years. Make sure to shut the curtain behind you. [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has released a new Top Ten video looking at Ten Entrance Ramp Ambushes. The video is exactly what it sounds like, with wrestlers being jumped as they make their entrance down the ramp. These range back a long time over the years, with some of them going all the way back to the famed Attitude Era and coming all the way forward to earlier this month for some modern flavor. One of the most recent entries took place last week. Check out the details here. Opinion: These things almo..
Well hello there. While there are a lot of nice things about NXT, one of the best things is the talent that is coming through that curtain. It’s a lot of fun to guess who might be the newest big name signee, but it’s even more fun to actually see them in person making the big surprise debut. Sometimes we know in advance, but sometimes they come from out of nowhere for the shock of the night. That sounds like it’s time for a flashback. Did your favorite make the list? [This post contains video, click to play] WWE has released a new Top Five video, looking at the five greatest in-arena debuts for NXT names. As you might guess, these are big names in NXT, whose debuts are treated like major deals. Since NXT isn’t really that old, most of these are from the last few years. Several of these names were already big stars when they debuted, which made their appearances that much more important as they already had reputations. Opinion: The top spot on the list makes se..
