The champion never stops. WWE United States Champion Austin Theory successfully defended his championship at the 2023 Elimination Chamber premium live event. However, it didn’t take long for his next challenger to be known. Following the event, WWE held its post-show press conference, with a number of guests. The first guest was Theory, who announced that he would be issuing an open challenge to anyone for his championship this coming Monday night on Raw. Immediately after that, Edge and Beth Phoenix took the stage and, after answering questions from the media, The Rated R Superstar took the opportunity to answer Theory’s challenge, setting up a match between the two. [This post contains video, click to play] Edge and Phoenix were victorious in their match against The Judgement Day earlier in the evening. Editor’s Opinion: I like this pairing very much. Raw is emanating from Canada this week, so to see Edge have the opportunity to compete for a championship in his home country is..
Nowhere is safe anymore. Following last night’s NXT: Vengeance Day premium live event, Shawn Michaels did a media conference call to discuss the show. However, he was not alone, as Grayson Waller decided to make his feelings known. Waller interrupted Michaels during the call and shared his frustrations about not being HBK’s guy. Waller felt that Carmelo Hayes has taken that place, as was shown in the final moments of the show. Matt Bloom ended up entering the room and removed Waller before he took things too far. You can see the conference call below: [This post contains video, click to play] Grayson Waller just interrupted the #VengeanceDay media call! VERY angry at Shawn Michaels. HOLY CRAP! Tune in Tuesday on #WWENXT to find out what the hell is going on! pic.twitter.com/T9sS5ZtTWI — Steve Fall – Ten Count (@SteveFall) February 5, 2023 Waller was in the main event of the show, challenging Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship; a match that Waller would end up on the los..
That could have been worse. There are all kinds of injuries in wrestling and some of them can be very serious. That is the sort of thing you never want to see as any wrestler being hurt is a bad situation. It can be even worse in a way if it happens during an important moment, which seems to have been the situation this weekend for one of the most important stars on a major show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s Back: WWE Hall Of Famer Makes Surprise Royal Rumble Return, Match Seems Likely Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Royal Rumble match on Saturday, becoming the first woman to enter the match at #1 and win. During the post show press conference, Ripley revealed that she dislocated her kneecap early in the match but said it popped back in. She also said she could smell blood in her nose. There is nothing to suggest that Ripley will miss any ring time due to the injury. It was a big night. Check out some of Ripley’s night at the Royal Rumble: [This post contains video, click to play] [T..
You have to hang it up sometime. There are all kinds of wrestlers throughout the industry but one thing they have in common is they all have to stop wrestling at some point. While it seems that some wrestlers will go on forever, at some point they are going to have to hang up their boots someday. A former WWE star seems to realize that and is announcing that his time in wrestling is almost over. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Maybe Later: AEW Star Removed From Roster Page, Seemingly Done With Wrestling For Now According to Puroresu Today, during a press conference for an upcoming Kyushu Pro Wrestling event in Japan, former WWE and ECW star Tajiri said that he knows he does not have much time left in his career. Tajiri, 52 and the reigning Kyushu Pro Champion, said that at his age, he still wants to be the champion and have hot matches, but he also want to nurture the next generation. There was no word on how much time Tajiri feels he has left in the ring or what else he wants to accomplish i..
He has their attention. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, it can be difficult for anyone to stand out. One of the best ways that they can do this is by making a name for themselves in NXT, where WWE works to develop these wrestlers into main roster stars. There is a lot of talent in NXT and now one of the bosses is talking about how great one of those stars really is. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Still Ok? Becky Lynch Gives Update On Her Shoulder After Return WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels took part in a media conference call to promote this weekend’s NXT Deadline event. During the call, Michaels spoke about Julius Creed, who he praised by referring to Creed as an “unbelievable athlete” and saying he sees a great deal of potential in Julius and Julius’ brother Brutus. There is no word on any potential callup for either member of the team, who are former NXT Tag Team Champions. The Creeds have done well so far in NXT. Check out some of their..
Well, maybe? WWE is in the middle of a series of huge changes and there is nothing to suggest that those changes are ending anytime soon. Some of the changes involve the company premium live events calendar changing, but very little has been confirmed so far. Now we are hearing a little bit more about this from one of the most powerful people in wrestling today. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Do It Again: Title Change Takes Place At WWE Survivor Series WWE held a press conference after this weekend’s Survivor Series event, featuring WWE Head Of Creative Triple H answering questions. Triple H spoke about the idea of themed events, such as Money In The Bank, Elimination Chamber and Hell In A Cell continuing. Regarding Hell In A Cell, Triple H said that it was the match that made sense as a challenge match to end a feud, such as how he and Mick Foley faced off at No Way Out 2000. However, Triple H did not give a definitive answer on the show and/or match’s fate, only saying that it was “up in t..
For the first time in five years, Saraya will finally make her in-ring return to the squared circle. She will wrestle Britt Baker in her return bout, which has been highly featured as one of the top feuds heading into tonight’s AEW Full Gear. It’s very exciting for the AEW fans and for Saraya herself to have the opportunity to perform after a five year absence. There hasn’t been any word on her training or how much she’s been in the ring over the past few months. AEW only just released the news that she was medically cleared to compete at Full Gear this past week. Tony Khan, who participated in the standard conference call before Full Gear, apparently didn’t have any concerns about Saraya being physically capable of performing in the ring when she signed with the company. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful confimed the following via Twitter about what plans were in place for Saraya if she couldn’t actually wrestle: Tony Khan tells me that @Saraya was confident she would get cleared and felt..
And so it is set. Over the last few years, WWE has regularly traveled to Saudi Arabia for a series of shows. These events have received a mixed reaction to say the least but they certainly do get attention. WWE will present a unique selection of matches, often including names that do not appear for the company full time. Now they have a new main event set in a first time ever match. WWE held a press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, officially announcing that Logan Paul will challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title in the main event of Crown Jewel on November 5. The match was set up over the course of the week, beginning with the two arguing on Twitter and leading up to a face to face segment between Paul and the Bloodline this week on SmackDown. This will be Paul’s first ever title shot. Opinion: The match was all but made this week on SmackDown so the press conference and official announcement were little more than a formality. Paul is certainly goin..
Smackdown Date: September 16, 2022 Location: Honda Center, Anaheim, California Commentators: Corey Graves, Michael Cole As has been said multiple times lately, and then everything changed. Over the course of the week, Roman Reigns started focusing on Logan Paul, which seems to be a likely Crown Jewel main event. That is the kind of thing that seems hard to fathom, but here we are with a big segment needed to make it work. Let’s get to it. Here is Logan Paul to get things going. After commentary recaps Paul’s issues with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman this week (Reigns went on Paul’s podcast and had an interview, then after Reigns left, Paul said he could beat him), Paul says he has done it again, meaning he has made someone mad. We get some hardcore WHATing before Paul talks about how he has challenged people like Floyd Mayweather before, so tomorrow there is going to be a press conference in Las Vegas. If Reigns is man enough, he can show up and meet him face to face. Cue the Bloodli..
It’s a way to go. We are firmly in the Roman Reigns era as Reigns is now over two years into his run as Universal Champion. This is in addition to the WWE Title that he won back at WrestleMania 38, making him the undisputed World Champion of the company. That much time as champion means that he is going to run out of challengers, but now WWE has a fresh opponent in mind. Earlier this week, Reigns and Logan Paul went at it on Twitter, with Reigns assigning Paul Heyman to deal with the situation. Heyman said that he would take care of it and Triple H invited Paul to SmackDown to do so. According to F4WOnline.com, Paul vs. Reigns is expected to headline Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 5, with a press conference planned for Saturday. The match is likely to be announced on SmackDown. Opinion: This is the kind of match that comes out of nowhere and I’m curious to see how Paul can do in that kind of a setting. He did very well at Summerslam which is a big enough deal, but this is an..
They’ll be there. The wrestling world is getting back one of the more prominent promotions of this generation as Ring Of Honor is running an event this weekend. That should make for quite the moment, but it does have some questions that need to be answered. Ring Of Honor has run one event this year and that was nearly four months ago. The promotion needs a roster and now we know two prominent names. During the Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor conference call, owner Tony Khan revealed that the Briscoes are signed to the company on long term contracts. The Briscoes are Ring Of Honor Hall of Famers and record twelve time Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions. They are scheduled to challenge FTR for the titles in a two out of three falls match at Death Before Dishonor. Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a shock as is no one more associated with Ring Of Honor than the Briscoes. They are the undisputed biggest team in the promotion’s history and that isn’t even counting their singles suc..
Get the gold plates. Titles are one of the easiest concepts in wrestling and that has been the case for a very long time. Since wrestling began, the idea of having a championship belt to signify the best wrestler in the company has been a well known concept and that is still the case to this day. It means a lot when a promotion brings in a new title and that might be the case again in one of most prominent companies around. During an interview with the AJ Awesome Show as part of the Double Or Nothing media conference call, AEW President Tony Khan mentioned that he would love to introduce Women’s Tag Team Titles to the company in the future. Khan said that while he needed to wait until some new wrestlers have been brought in and some wrestlers return from injury, but he would like to bring in the titles eventually. Also mentioned were the long rumored Trios Titles, though no date was given for either set of titles. Opinion: I really hope that this isn’t something we see, as there are ..
Investing in the future. WWE has more money than they know what to do with and they continue to bring in even more money every single year. They know how to make money like no other wrestling promotion and there is a chance that will continue for a long time to come. The company does have to think about its future though and that is what they are planning on soon. WWE held its first quarter financial conference call this week and according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, the company announced plans to expand its Performance Centers. There is no word on how or when these processes will begin. In addition, the idea of adding new Performance Centers internationally is currently on hold, with no idea of when the project could continue. WWE claim they're looking at expanding and improving on their Performance Centers. I've heard recently that the global expansion was still "on hold" in that regard. — Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) May 5, 2022 Opinion: This ..
He had an offer. AEW All Out featured a series of major changes to the AEW roster, including a pair of huge debuts to end the show. That is the kind of thing that you do not see very often and you certainly could feel the changes taking place right in front of you. WWE was unable to keep the two of them on their side, but it turns out that they made one a rather special offer. Bryan Danielson made his AEW debut at the end of All Out, marking an end to his free agent status. Danielson left WWE at the end of April and it was unclear where he would sign next. Danielson spoke during the post All Out press conference and revealed that WWE made him a special offer, including allowing him to work outside of WWE. While he did not specify the locations, Danielson mentioned wanting to wrestle in Japan and Mexico. There is no word on when he might appear in those countries. I think they would be interested. Check out Danielson’s matches around the wrestling world: [This post contains video, cl..
His opinion matters. There are certain influential names in wrestling and then there is Vince McMahon. He might not be the most popular person in the industry, but there is no denying the level of power he wields. McMahon’s opinions and thoughts can change the way wrestling goes, both in and out of WWE. McMahon has said something new, and it is going to get some people talking. WWE held its second quarter financial conference call on Thursday. During the call, McMahon was asked if he views AEW as competition and what he plans to do to counter them. McMahon said that AEW is “where they are” and that he does not see AEW as competition like WCW was, with AEW being “not anywhere near that”. He did not mention anything WWE was planning to do to deal with AEW either directly or indirectly. AEW debuted in May 2019, with their flagship television show, Dynamite, debuting in October 2019. The show went head to head with WWE NXT on Wednesday nights for about a year and a half, with Dynamite wi..
NXT UK Date: July 15, 2021 Location: BT Studios, London, England Commentators: Andy Shepherd, Nigel McGuinness It’s a double title week as both the Heritage Cup and Women’s Title are on the line. That alone should be enough for a huge show, but it is also time to hype up the United Kingdom Title match for next week, which should be a candidate for match of the year. This show has a tendency to be good lately so maybe they can keep that up here. Let’s get to it. In Memory Of Paul Orndorff. Opening sequence. HHH joins us to hype up Walter vs. Ilja Dragunov II for the United Kingdom Title next week. Walter has been champion for over 800 days but Dragunov is an enigma. NXT UK is proud to present it and it is going to be amazing. We go to the ring, with Walter and Dragunov set up for a press conference. First up is Alex McCarthy from talkSport, who asks if Walter thinks his title reign is under threat. That’s a no, because Walter is here for the long term. It’s true that Dragunov is an..
Sometimes you go somewhere unexpected. There have been some interesting stories taking place in wrestling over the last few months but there are very few as entertaining as Cameron Grimes attempting to be the modern day Ted DiBiase. Grimes has tried his best to live up to DiBiase’s reputation and DiBiase has been added to the story to make it feel a lot bigger. It turns out that the original plan was quite different. According to Shawn Michaels during the NXT Takeover: In Your House media conference call, DiBiase was not originally factored into the plans for the story. Grimes began mentioning DiBiase in his promos and eventually WWE called DiBiase to see if he was willing to come in. DiBiase agreed and was brought in to the story, which soon involved the Million Dollar Title as well. Grimes’ issues with DiBiase began when he made a good deal of money in the stock market. As a result, Grimes began attempting to imitate DiBiase’s acts of offering people money to do various demeaning t..
That might get some people talking. NXT is one of the most unique wrestling promotions in the world as it serves more than one purpose. While it is a show that airs on its own every week for two hours in prime time, it is also the official developmental program for WWE. This brings an additional layer of pressure of the wrestlers, and now one of the biggest names in NXT has something interesting to say about it. WWE COO Triple H took part in a media conference call to promote this Sunday’s NXT Takeover: In Your House and was asked about NXT wrestlers moving to other shows. Triple H responded with the following (transcription courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com): “Do you like it, or do you not like it? Do you have to say, ‘I like it, but I like this other thing more,’ or ‘I like it, but I don’t like it as much as I like that one.’ Just watch it or don’t and stop trying to figure out where everything goes.” “The fans ruin their own stuff half the time trying to figure out where everything g..
Getting things started the right way. One of the great traditions in the NBA is the ringing of the bell before the Philadephia 76ers take the court for a home game. This is to pay homage to the Liberty Bell, which resides in the city of Brotherly Love. Today, however, Triple H made his presence felt during this ceremony. The Game walked out with 76ers star Joel Embiid, coming out to the Degeneration-X theme and wearing DX gear. After a few crotch chops and pandering to the crowd, Triple H rang the bell with his trademark sledgehammer to get the game started. You can see the clip below: Joel Embiid came out DX style and rang the bell with Triple H. pic.twitter.com/HafuuFeuxb — Rich Hofmann (@rich_hofmann) June 6, 2021 Ring the bell. #ThrustTheProcess@sixers @JoelEmbiid pic.twitter.com/4pMGEbARyr — Triple H (@TripleH) June 6, 2021 The 76ers are playing the Atlanta Hawks in the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals.
