Another one for the history books. This past Sunday at NXT Deadline, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods captured the NXT tag team championships by defeating Pretty Deadly. While this was a great moment for The New Day, this championship victory was also historic in a number of ways. As a result of their victory, Kingston broke the record for the most tag team championships in WWE history with 15. The previous record was held by Booker T, who had 14 championship reigns. Kofi Kingston has now officially broken the record for most tag-title reigns in @WWE history. Run it back. On last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, it was confirmed that FTR will defend their ROH Tag Team championships at the 2022 Final Battle event against their rival, The Briscoes, in a Double Dog Collar match. This came about at the end of Dynamite, following The Acclaimed’s successful defense of the AEW Tag Team Championships against FTR. Colten and Austin Gunn appeared on screen and pulled a Christmas card out of a stocking. They then pulled out dog collars to review the stipulation for the match. #TheGunns @coltengunn & @theaustingunn have a gift for #FTR @CashWheelerFTR @DaxFTR It's a Double Dog Collar Match against #DEMBOYS #TheBriscoes @jaybriscoe84 @SussexCoChicken for the #ROH World Tag Team Championship at #ROHFinalBattle LIVE on PPV this SATURDAY! pic.twitter.com/fIp8H8Dkc6 — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) December 8, 2022 FTR defeated The Briscoes at April’s Supercard of Honor to capture the ROH tag team championships. Out of the burrow? Every now and then, a WWE storyline captures the imaginations of fans in a positive way. It can give fans something that holds their entrance and makes them wonder where everything is going. That can make for some great build but what matters is sticking the landing. Now we know when the landing of a current WWE landing needs to be stuck. Over the last few weeks, WWE has been running the White Rabbit storyline, which has not included anything taking place on television. Instead, WWE has run moments on live events and aired QR codes leading fans to clues. This has led to speculation about where the story is leading. According to Fightful Select, the reveal is expected to take place at Extreme Rules on October 8, though it is not clear if the person involved in the angle will appear at the show. The person behind the angle is still unknown. Opinion: This would make the most sense as Extreme Rules is the next major event on the WWE calendar. While signs point to this ..
Brock Lesnar’s win at the 2022 Royal Rumble on January 29 was not surprising to many WWE fans. After all, he is The Beast Incarnate and a heavily featured star in the company. In fact, if not for Roman Reigns, Lesnar would likely be the undisputed face of WWE. Because of this, a Brock victory on one of WWE’s biggest nights of the year is not all that shocking. But a Brock victory in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match? That’s another matter altogether. Lesnar dropped the WWE Championship to Bobby Lashley earlier in the evening, which opened the door for at least the possibility of a surprise Rumble entry. Reigns’ interference in Lesnar’s match made that surprise a reality. But was Brock’s win the right move? [This post contains video, click to play] Building The Beast Very few Superstars have captured the imagination of WWE fans like Brock Lesnar. He’s been called an anomaly, which fits him perfectly. He’s a country boy at heart, with an easy smile and an awkward disposition. He doesn’t s..
That could slow her down. Every now and then you see a star catch fire and turn into one of the bigger stories on any given show. It works very well if a wrestler can capture the audience’s attention and see how far things can go. That is the case on Monday Night Raw, but now things might be slowed down a little bit due to a pretty badly timed injury to a rising star. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured a showdown between Liv Morgan and Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. Morgan had been cheated out of her title shot the previous week and wanted a rematch. Before accepting, Lynch attacked Morgan, including crushing her arm against the ring steps. During Raw Talk, Morgan was announced as having suffered a deep bone bruise and a strained radial collateral ligament in her left arm. She is still expected to challenge Lynch at Day One on January 1. As revealed on #RAWTalk, @YaOnlyLivvOnce has a deep bone bruise and a strained radial collateral ligament in her left arm.#WWERaw pic.twitter...
That’s a sweet one. Every now and then, something in pop culture will capture the attention of all kinds of people at once. It might be a movie, a song or something else, but it is all anyone is talking about for a long time. You will often see a wrestling promotion try to tie something into such a trend, and WWE has done that as well in connection to a popular new show. WWE has released a video showing some of its stars taking the Honeycomb Challenge from the Netflix series Squid Game. The goal is to be able to cut a shape out of a piece of honeycomb without breaking the middle piece. Various wrestlers attempt to do so, with the majority being able to succeed. Of the group of wrestlers trying, only one of them fails to make it work. It’s a pop culture thing. Not so fast? There are certain wrestlers who can completely capture the fans’ attention, which makes for some amazing moments. You do not get wrestlers like that very often but when you do, you know that you are getting something special. WWE has had its share of those wrestlers over the years and one seemed primed for a return. However, that might not be the case at the moment. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s recent mentions of Daniel Bryan are no indication that he will be returning in the near future. Bryan has been mentioned in connection with the Edge vs. Roman Reigns feud, but it is only to advance their story. His most recent match took place on the April 30 SmackDown, when he was defeated by Reigns, forcing him to leave SmackDown. You might remember him. Welcome back. One of the best moments that you are going to see in wrestling is a major return. There are some people who are going to capture your attention in a hurry because you can feel something different about them. That makes seeing them return all the more fun and now we are getting ready to see it again, though this time it will be even bigger than usual. During this week’s edition of NXT UK, a video announced that Walter will be returning to the show next week. This will be Walter’s first appearance since NXT UK Prelude on April 8 when he defeated Rampage Brown to retain the United Kingdom Title. There is no word on what Walter will be doing on the show, when he will be making his next title defense, or who he will be facing next. This feels different. Check out the announcement and what Walter can do: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Now this feels like something sp..
This is what the people want to see. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Championship from Stomping Grounds 2019. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Surrounded by twisted steel with a chance to capture his first WWE Title, Ziggler used his “should have been me” mentality to nearly escape the cage twice within the first several minutes of the contest. Kingston also made a break for it before the two settled into an incredible back-and-forth matchup. Dolph delivered on everything he promised, using the cage as a weapon every chance he got. With Kingston staggered, the relentless Showoff continued to brutalize the champion. Kofi answered by literally turning Dolph into the cage, much like Ziggler had done to him. Kofi’s title reign was in jeopardy when he had to survive several devastating leg locks and a Zig Zag, but h..
What could have been. Earlier this month, WWE released nine wrestlers from their contracts, which offered quite the shakeup to the company’s roster. These releases came fairy out of nowhere though and that means there were chances for something else to happen. Now those plans will not be realized, but we do know what one of them might have been. According to Fightful Select, prior to his release from the company, WWE was considering reuniting Wesley Blake with his NXT tag team partner Buddy Murphy. The two had been meeting with WWE creative to come up with a way to reintroduce them to WWE programming but nothing ever took place. The idea came about after Blake’s other partner, Steve Cutler, was released from the company in January. Blake and Murphy appeared together in NXT, where they were managed by Alexa Bliss. The two won the NXT Tag Team Titles in January 2015 and held them for over seven months. Following their loss, the two failed to recapture their titles and ultimately split,..
Smackdown Date: September 11, 2020 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves Things took a surprising turn last week as Jey Uso of all people became the new #1 contender to the Smackdown World Title. That could set up quite the one sided title defense for Roman Reigns but you never know. As for tonight, Jeff Hardy defends the Intercontinental Title against AJ Styles. Let’s get to it. We open with a Never Forget graphic. We get a long recap of Reigns’ comments last week, plus Uso becoming #1 contender. Here are Reigns and Heyman for a chat. Heyman talks about letting the cat out of the bag two weeks ago. Then at Payback, they took the Universal title. That took us to last week when Jey Uso captured the #1 contendership in the biggest win of his career. Heyman invites Uso to the ring and we see some photos of the Usos and reigns growing up together. Uso thanks Heyman for getting him a spot last week but Heyman says it was Reigns’ idea, with Hey..
The Man vs. The Woman. Tonight on Raw, it was announced that Raw and Smackdown Live Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch, will defend the Raw title against Lacey Evans at Money In The Bank 2019. You can see a clip of an encounter between the two from Raw below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Lynch stood tall against incredible odds at WrestleMania, overcoming Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to capture both titles in a Triple Threat Winner Take All Match. Since the moment she stepped off The Grandest Stage of Them All, Becky Two Belts has been well aware of the two large targets on her back and is ready to take on all comers; she didn’t have to wait long to find her next challenge. After strutting up and down the entrance ramp for weeks, the bold Evans decided to make her move when she encountered the newly-crowed titleholder. During an episode of Raw, The Sassy Southern Belle turned in from her walk without warning and suddenly clocked Lynch in the jaw with the..
When then-WWE Universal Champion Reigns announced he would be stepping away from the ring as his leukemia had returned, it shocked wrestling fans around the world. Later that same night, things took a turn. During the same night, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre to capture the RAW Tag Team Championship. Given the news of Reigns’ departure was heavy in the hearts of the audience, and those watching around the world, it was very much a feelgood moment. [This post contains video, click to play] With the whole world watching, Ambrose turned his back on Rollins, Reigns- and the WWE Universe as he viciously attacked his long-time friend and left him and the WWE Universe in a mess, as both he and WWE themselves were booed heavily. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Reigns gave an insight into how he reacted to WWE’s decision to have Ambrose turn heel on the night of a very real and serious announcement. Reigns noted that he has conflicting emotions ..
Welcome to the Uso Penitentiary. At the recent Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Jimmy & Jey Usos defeated Shane McMahon & The Miz to capture the WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships. It marks their sixth reign as title holders in the company. But who will they be facing next? That question was answered tonight on the show, as it was revealed that McMahon and Miz will get their rematch at the upcoming Fastlane pay-per-view. You can see a clip of the match being made below: [This post contains video, click to play] Editor’s Opinion: This makes sense for a number of reasons. First, not only will the match take place in The Miz’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, but his dad will be in the audience watching the match. Second, this could be an opportunity to set up a match between the two at WrestleMania, should that be the direction that the company wants to go. We will have to wait and see! Are you looking forward to the rematch between The Usos and Shane McMahon & The Miz at Fas..
