March 5, 2023

Impact Wrestling Date: March 2, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are done with No Surrender and that means we are at least one step closer to Rebellion in April. Josh Alexander is still the World Champion after retaining over Rich Swann, but now Steve Maclin is waiting on the champ. That should make for a good buildup and they have time to make it work. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of No Surrender. Here is the Bullet Club for a chat to start. Chris Bey is rather happy about what he and Ace Austin have been doing lately, including beating the Motor City Machine Guns (in a six man tag) at No Surrender. Bey talks about helping set up the ring in this building before making his Impact Wrestling debut here as well. It turns out that Austin debuted here too but he would rather talk about beating Chris Sabin. After revealing Austin’s “I BEAT CHRIS SABIN”, we get a quick audience poll over who the be..

AEW Dynamite Results – March 1, 2023

March 2, 2023

Dynamite Date: March 1, 2023 Location: Cow Palace, San Francisco, California Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz It’s the go home Dynamite for Revolution and that means we have a stacked show. This time around that includes the Face of the Revolution ladder match plus a Casino tag team battle royal to determine the fourth team in Sunday’s four way Tag Team Title match. That should be more than enough to carry the show so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. All-Atlantic Title: Orange Cassidy vs. Big Bill Bill, with Stokely Hathaway, is challenging. Cassidy gets backed to the floor to start and the chase is on, with Cassidy messing with Bill’s mind. With nothing else working, Cassidy even steals Stokely’s glasses before tumbling away from Bill. Back in and the tornado DDT is countered into a side slam to plant Cassidy for the first time. A running big boot puts Cassidy on the floor and it’s time to set up the table (which they do move to the end of the ramp for once). Cassidy..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Possible Sign Sasha Banks Is On Her Way Back To WWE

August 5, 2022

Even more evidence. One of the biggest wrestling stories of the year has been Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on WWE and leaving the company back in May. The two were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time and the titles were vacated in the process. There have been rumblings that the two may be returning to WWE, and now we have a bit more evidence. According to Wrestlingnews.co, Banks, under her real name of Mercedes Varnado, is no longer being advertised for the Los Angeles Rams celebrity flag football game, scheduled for this Friday. Banks had been advertised as of Wednesday evening but an updated roster from Reddit does not include her. While there is no guarantee of what the change means, there is a chance that WWE pulled her from the event if she is returning to the company. Here are Wednesday and Thursday’s advertisements: Who ya got?! Celebrity Flag Football rosters are set for Team Ramsey + Team Donald! » https://t.co/YqQkpKw4Qa pic.twitter.com/boDqCLysLl..

He Has A Chance: This WWE Star Is Likely To Benefit From Triple H Taking Over

August 2, 2022

Call it a hope spot? WWE has changed quite a bit in recent weeks and those changes are likely to continue for the time being. This has centered around Vince McMahon stepping away from the company with Triple H taking over as head of talent relations and creative. That means some people are going to be getting a chance that they have not received before and that was on display this week. According to Fightful Select, Ciampa is expected to benefit from Triple H’s rise to power in WWE. Ciampa was a top star in NXT when Triple H was in charge and that is expected to be the case again on the main roster. This week on Monday Night Raw, Ciampa won a pair of matches to become the new #1 contender to the United States Title, with high shot against Bobby Lashley coming next week. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise but it is certainly welcome news. Ciampa is someone who has yet to get anything resembling a serious chance during this run on the main roster and I have no idea why. He has th..

Bring Him In: UFC Champion Wants To Try His Hand At Professional Wrestling

July 5, 2022

He has a plan. There are all kinds of wrestlers who have come from another sport. This has been the case for years and it will likely continue to be the case for as long as wrestling is around. In modern times, mixed martial arts has become more prevalent as a feeder system to wrestling and now another top mixed martial artist seems interested in at least dabbling in wrestling. On Saturday, UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya made an entrance inspired by the Undertaker. In an interview with BT Sports, Adesanya said that he would be interested in working with WWE, or some other promotion at some point. Adesanya said that it is something he would like to do for fun rather than as a full time job. Adesanya revealed that he once broke his arm jumping off the couch trying to do a shooting star. There is no word on when Adesanya would want to try wrestling or where it would be. Opinion: This is the kind of thing there you can imagine WWE or AEW lining up to get Adesanya to appear whe..

A running shoulder drops Solo again so it’s off to Marshall vs. Goto, with the latter knocking Marshall around without much trouble. BREAKING: Vince McMahon Steps Back As WWE CEO And Chairman, Stephanie McMahon Replacing Him

June 17, 2022

There’s the fallout. There is no one as powerful in the wrestling world as Vince McMahon. He has run the largest wrestling promotion in the world for about forty years now and no one is close to his level of influence. However, there are some things that can slow McMahon down and now we are one of the biggest imaginable, as McMahon has lost quite a bit of power. Earlier this week, WWE announced that McMahon was under an internal investigation for an alleged affair with a WWE employee. The affair saw McMahon pay the woman $3 million to keep the story quiet, along with possibly doubling her salary once the affair began. On Friday, WWE announced that McMahon will be stepping away from his duties as CEO and Chairman of the Board, with his daughter Stephanie taking over until the end of the investigation. Vince will still maintain his creative duties with WWE. Opinion: That’s about as big of a bombshell as you could get, as the idea of Vince not being in charge is one of the most hard to ..

Update On MJF, Now Looking To Land More Acting Roles

June 9, 2022

It’s calling his name. Wrestling and acting has a weird relationship, as there is always the question about how much acting there is on a wrestling show. Wrestlers are seen as actors but it is a bit more complicated than what they are doing. It can be interesting to see wrestlers trying their hands at acting and that might be the case again with a rather prominent star. According to Fightful Select, AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman is said to have a growing interest in acting. Friedman was reportedly in Los Angeles this week to explore acting possibilities. This comes after Friedman has announced that he has recorded a voiceover role for an animated film due out next year. There is no word on what this means for Friedman’s future in wrestling. Opinion: This is something that you see happen every so often, but you never know how things are going to work out. Some wrestlers do find success in acting, but there have been several who have never gone anywhere outside of dabbling at best. I’m ..

Back To It: Major Change Possibly Coming For NXT

May 13, 2022

That would be a change. There have been several moves made in and around NXT in the last several months. The show has been relaunched as the new NXT 2.0, which has included a variety of moves that have left NXT barely resembling its original version. Some of these changes have been for the better, but now we might be seeing one of the older norms reestablished. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is considering taking NXT back on the road. The return to touring would take place in the near future, with the touring likely taking place around Florida, as was done before the Coronavirus pandemic took place. It should be noted that these talks have been held before but nothing came of them. NXT has only run one event outside of the WWE Performance Center since the relaunch of NXT, with Stand & Deliver taking place in Dallas, Texas. Opinion: This is something that has been needed for a very long time as NXT wrestlers have only been training in the Performance Center and wrestling m..

I’m not sure what that means but NXT UK has enough of a track record that I can believe they’ll pull it off. On top of that, we get more of the build towards next week’s 200th show. Let’s get to it. Lash Legend arrived earlier today and conscripted Emilia McKenzie to take care of her bag. Opening sequence. It’s time for Supernova Sessions, this time in the ring. Noam Dar says this is the first edition of Supernova Sessions 2.0, which makes me scared for this place’s future. This week’s guest is international superstar Lash Legend and, after taking some time to get her seated, Dar gives her something resembling a plant. Hold on though, as Samuel Sha brings in a much nicer bouquet, which she puts in the Heritage Cup. Legend rhymes ab..

WATCH: The Rock & John Cena Make Their First WrestleMania Match Official

March 4, 2022

The course of history was shifted forever. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full segment from the April 4, 2011 episode of RAW when John Cena and The Rock make their WrestleMania XXVIII (28) match official. You can see the segment in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] Here’s how the match went down: Shortly after the bell rang, Cena sent The Rock tumbling with a show of power to send an early message to start the contest. The Rock didn’t flinch and promptly returned the favor with a shove of his own that tossed Cena down to the canvas. The Great One proved that he didn’t miss a beat despite the ring rust, as he executed a couple of hip tosses and a very crafty la magistral rollup for a near-pinfall. Cena looked shocked as he took a breather in the corner of the ring. After Rock managed to slip out of an Attitude Adjustment attempt, he nailed the much-anticipated People’s Elbow, but it still wouldn’t be enough to d..

Another Former WWE Star Might Be Heading To AEW

February 17, 2022

Join the team? AEW has done some great things in its short history and a lot of that is due to its roster. The company brought in all kinds of stars in its early years but have picked it up even more in the last few months. They have a great ability to come figure out who should be brought in and where those people should be placed, and now we might know who is coming in next. According to Fightful Select, former WWE star Buddy Matthews (known as Buddy Murphy in WWE) may be the next name signed to AEW. This comes as there have been growing interest and “rumblings” about the signing, though Matthews has not yet been signed to a contract. There is a chance that AEW has already come up with creative plans for Matthews, who was released from WWE in June and has wrestled in various promotions since. Opinion: I’m not sure how big of a surprise Matthews coming in to AEW would be but it is still nice to see someone else getting a chance on the big state again. Matthews is someone else who fe..

Ouch: WWE’s Biggest Streaming Partner Loses A Fortune

January 28, 2022

That’s a lot of money. WWE has made a fortune by producing so much content that they are constantly in demand. Other platforms are interested in bringing over WWE and everything that they can showcase, which comes with a built in audience. That can come at a high price tag, and now it seems that one of WWE’s biggest partners has paid for quite a few of those price tags. According to Variety, Peacock, the official platform for the WWE Network in the United States, lost $1.7 billion in 2021, doubling its losses from last year. Peacock is entering its third year of availability and features Universal films, NBC television and WWE content. There is nothing to suggest that Peacock will be shutting down, as it is reportedly not expected to be profitable until 2025. Opinion: This is one of those things that is kind of hard to get my head around, as losing nearly two billion dollars sounds catastrophic to any business. That being said, NBC Universal is a mammoth company and something on the ..

SmackDown Star Unveils An Entirely New Character

That’s who he is now. There are certain wrestlers who are known by one name and one name only. REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Brooklyn IV: Their Big Night

June 10, 2021

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between.
