He’s done. Retirement is a tricky concept in wrestling as a wrestler can always come back for one more match if given the chance. Rather than having to wrestler a full season of matches like a mainstream athlete would, a wrestler can jump in and out whenever they like. In this situation though, a wrestling legend is indicating that his career is entirely over once and for all. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s New: WWE Reportedly Signs Former New Japan Star During an appearance on the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast, wrestling legend Tully Blanchard announced that his contract with AEW/Ring Of Honor was up and that his wrestling career was “probably over”. Blanchard, 69 years old, worked with AEW as a manager, appearing with various wrestlers such as FTR and Shawn Spears. He last appeared with the company in 2022 when his stable was purchased by Prince Nana. Blanchard had an amazing career. Check out some of his highlights: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..
That happens. Wrestling is a complicated industry as the wrestlers involved are all over the place a good chunk of the time. They spend so much time traveling that it is difficult to find time to have personal lives. This includes romantic relationships but on occasion, you will see wrestlers getting together, which would in theory make things easier. Now though, one pair is calling it quits. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Out Of Two, One? WWE Teases Separating Some United Titles Tessa Blanchard and Daga, who were married in August 2020, have announced that they are separating. Their joint statement speaks about their admiration for each other and clarifies that no “infidelity or other interests were involved” in their decision. The two of them both worked in Impact Wrestling before getting married. Blanchard has only wrestled seven matches since September 2020 amid allegations of racist statements made to another wrestler. He’s gone? While wrestlers are the focal point of any wrestling show, there are other people on television who are going to be getting some attention of their own. That can often be the case with someone doing the talking for the wrestlers, which can often make for a great combination. However, now one of the better talkers in wrestling today might be looking for a new place to go. Tully Blanchard was absent from this weekend’s Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor event and was seemingly written off of television as Prince Nana announced his purchase of Tully Blanchard Enterprises. According to Fightful Select, it is not clear why Blanchard was missing, with possible reasons ranging from possible travel issues to Blanchard’s prison ministry. Either way, Blanchard was said to be done with Ring Of Honor, though it is not clear if he will be back in AEW. Opinion: This is kind of a weird situation and hopefully Blanchard can find somewhere to go. He is way too good of a talker to not have..
Hand it over? Stables have been a feature of wrestling for a very long time now and there is nothing to suggest that will change in the near future. They are still an effective idea as they allow multiple wrestlers to be able to get on television in a single segment. There are still times where things need to be changed though, and that seems to be the case again in an odd way. This weekend’s Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor card was scheduled to feature a six man tag match involving Tully Blanchard Enterprises. However, before the match, Ring Of Honor mainstay Prince Nana announced that he had purchased the stable from Blanchard. Nana would appear in the corner of Kan/Toa Liona/Brian Cage for their six man tag, as well as Jonathan Gresham as he lost the Ring Of Honor World Title to Claudio Castagnoli. There is no word on why the change was made or if Blanchard will have something else to do in AEW/Ring Of Honor. Opinion: I’m curious about what happened with Blanchard, but this do..
To the other side. There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world today and they all have their own talented stars. Some of these names are rather well known and you can see them on a regular basis, but sometimes you have someone who is more of a special treat. One of those stars was in action this week, but something happened that made a bigger impact than his match. This week’s edition of AEW Rampage featured a tag team match between Ring Of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham and Lee Moriarty against the Gates of Agony. During the match, Gresham walked out on Moriarty and shook hands with Tully Blanchard, seemingly joining Tully Blanchard Enterprises, along with the Gates of Agony. Later in the show, it was announced that Moriarty will challenge Gresham for the title next week on Rampage. Opinion: I’m not sure about this but it is a different way to go for Gresham and sets up Moriarty as his next challenger. We could be in for a very good technical match between those two ..
Welcome back? While WWE and AEW get most of the attention, there are a lot of other talented wrestlers performing elsewhere. That can open the door for a lot of fans to see stars that they new knew before, but sometimes these other promotions have stars that you have seen somewhere before. It seems to be the case again, and now a seemingly blackballed star is on her way back. Hurricane Pro Wrestling in Beaumont, Texas has announced that Tessa Blanchard will be appearing at their event on July 16. There is no word on what Blanchard will be doing on the show, though she is featured in the center of the post. Blanchard has not wrestled since September 12, 2020 for Warrior Wrestling. Since then, she has been living in Mexico with her husband Daga, following allegations of racist statements against a wrestler in Japan. She had been announced as part of the revival of Women Of Wrestling but her association fell through after a disagreement with the promotion. HPW – Sat July 16 – @FordPark,..
That could have gone differently. There are some very talented wrestlers in the world but there is often something that holds them back from reaching their true potential. That could be any of several possible options, and unfortunately they can prevent fans from seeing some very talented stars. It seems that is the case again, now with one of the more talented stars in the world. Earlier this month, Tessa Blanchard and Women Of Wrestling reportedly had a falling out, resulting in Blanchard’s relationship with the company and its owner, David McClane weakening. According to Fightful Select, Blanchard is no longer figured in to the company’s plans, including their initial television tapings, which were held last week. Blanchard’s association with the promotion was designed to be a rehabilitation project for her due to major promotions not showing any interest in her. The issues between the two sides began when CBS, Women Of Wrestling’s television partner, canceled a planned tryout mat..
It was nice while it lasted. A manager can do a lot of things for a wrestler, including giving them someone to do the talking. That can make for a rather lucrative association, as talking and emotions may not be their strong suit. At the same time though, there are times when the association might not make the most sense and something needs to change. That was the case this week. This week on AEW Dynamite, FTR fired Tully Blanchard as their manager. The incident took place in a backstage segment where FTR talked about wanting to get their hands on the Young Bucks and ReDRagon for the sake of revenge. Blanchard said that they needed to focus on getting the Tag Team Titles back, but FTR spoke about wanting to take care of their families. There is no word on what Blanchard may do next. Opinion: This is something that is kind of overdue as there was little need for Blanchard to be with the team any longer. He made for a good manager and a cool association, but FTR can talk with the best o..
It was great while it lasted. There have been countless wrestlers over the years but only a small handful of them reach legendary status. Those wrestlers are some of the greatest of all time and you will occasionally be lucky enough to see them in the ring after reaching such a high level. That is the case with a few names today, but one of them will not be getting back in the ring. Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer and former WWE Women’s Champion Gail Kim appeared on Busted Open Radio and confirmed that she will not be returning to the ring and is officially retired. Kim cited a variety of health reasons, including not wanting to risk her back or memory getting worse. Kim is currently a producer and on air authority figure for Impact Wrestling. Her final match took place at Rebellion 2019 against Tessa Blanchard. Opinion: If this is what Kim wants to do and she is happy with the decision, then good for her. She is someone who has had an absolute Hall of Fame career and has nothing left..
Dynamite Date: February 9, 2022 Location: Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone This is another big night and that is because Tony Khan has promised a huge debut in a qualifying match for the Face of the Revolution ladder match. As a result, there has been a lot of excited speculation and that has made the show feel that much more important. Other than that, we are probably seeing some more from the potential Jon Moxley/Bryan Danielson pairing. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Wardlow with some cardboard cutouts of MJF sitting on CM Punk’s chest and MJF putting Punk in the sleeper. Wardlow looks annoyed as he hands Justin Roberts some cards with introductions for FTR with Tully Blanchard and Shawn Spears, who has his own introduction for MJF. As you might expect, it is as over the top as you can get, including talking about how he beat punk TWICE in the garbage heap that is Chicago in the mid-mid-mid-midwest. MJF comes..
Rampage Date: December 10, 2021 Location: UBS Arena, New York City, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Taz We’re still in New York and this time there is a pretty big match on the card, as the Lucha Bros are defending the Tag Team Titles against FTR. Other than that, we have the in-ring debut as Hook, which should be a heck of a moment in its own right. This show tends to do well with the faster pace so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Tag Team Titles: Lucha Bros vs. FTR FTR, with Tully Blanchard, is defending. Fenix grabs Harwood by the wrist to start and takes Wheeler down at the same time. Penta comes in to help take FTR down and it’s time for a breather on the floor. Back in and Penta takes off his glove but manages to roll Wheeler up for two. Now the glove is tossed to Wheeler, allowing Penta to catch him with a superkick. Fenix springboards in with a high crossbody but the momentum sends him outside. That means Harwood can drop Fenix back first onto the apron and the champs ..
She’s not done yet. There are a lot of wrestlers around the world and in today’s environment, it is nearly impossible to not see everyone at some point. This can work in both good or bad ways, as fans can see and remember a lot of things that are said and done. Now a wrestler with some controversy in her past is getting another chance ni the business. According to Fightful Select, WOW Women of Wrestling is expected to announce a relaunch later this week, with Tessa Blanchard returning as well. The announcement, with Blanchard and another unnamed wrestler, is expected to take place on Wednesday. This comes over a year since Blanchard’s most recent match, as well as allegations of Blanchard using racial slurs against fellow wrestlers in Japan. Blanchard was stripped of the Impact Wrestling World Title in June 2020 and has only wrestled once since, with her most recent match taking place in September 2020. You might need to get to know her again. Check out some of Blanchard’s time in Im..
I guess that’s a no? WWE and AEW are the two most prominent wrestling companies in America and that is not likely to change in the near future. That means they are going to be the highest level destinations for all kinds of wrestlers, many of whom are currently not with a major company. One prominent free agent has been away for a long time, and that is likely to continue. According to Bodyslam.net, there are no plans for either AEW or WWE to bring in former Impact Wrestling World Champion Tessa Blanchard at this point. Blanchard is said to be “nuclear”, mainly due to allegations that she used a racial slur against wrestler La Rosa Negra while on a tour of Japan. There is no word on when Blanchard will wrestle again, though her most recent match took place on September 12, 2020. There are other women out there. Check out some of the best female wrestlers in the world today: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..
Dynamite Date: September 1, 2021 Location: Now Arena, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur It’s the go home show for All Out and that means it’s time for the big push to the show. As you might have guessed, CM Punk is back in the house and the ovation should crazy all over again. It’s also the 100th edition of Dynamite and that means we might be seeing something of a look back. AEW has always done those well so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Santana/Ortiz vs. FTR Tully Blanchard is here with FTR, who have Bobby Eaton themed trunks for a very nice moment. Harwood headlocks Santana down to start and then shoulders him down for a bonus. They chop it out and Santana gets knocked into the ropes. Everything breaks down in a hurry with FTR being sent outside, where Wheeler holds his bad arm. The big flip dives take FTR down and the springboard flip dives do it again. Back in and Harwood tags his way out of a belly to back suplex so Wheeler can send Ortiz..
